midnight.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Oh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I remember going out and going, \u201cIt\u2019s a Tuesday.\u00a0 I\u2019m at the movies.\u00a0 This is great!\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 (laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s some discipline that\u2014I\u2019m trying to think as a parent, \u201cHow do we help our kids cultivate these kinds of disciplines so that when they are on their own, some of that may kick back in?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I think in high school a part of it is helping them to own their decisions.\u00a0 Saying, \u201cHey look.\u00a0 You have a schedule.\u00a0 You have 24 hours a day, seven days a week.\u00a0 How are you going to balance your work load, your job, your sports?\u201d\u00a0 Helping them with some of the skills that I talk about in Chapter Two there of making a schedule.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe schedule is not just, \u201cThis is when I\u2019m in class.\u201d\u00a0 It is, \u201cThis is when I\u2019m having dinner with my friends,\u201d which is an important thing to do.\u00a0 \u201cThis is when I\u2019m sleeping.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to make sure that I get seven to eight hours of sleep at night.\u201d\u00a0 You\u2019d be surprised how many students burn out for lack of sleep.\u00a0 \u201cThis is when I\u2019m going to be in the library.\u00a0 This is when I\u2019m going to be studying for my classes.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tCarving all that out and then, saying, \u201cThis is my time that I have for recreation and for fun.\u00a0 This is the time I have for work.\u00a0 This is time I have for sleep, taking care of my body.\u00a0 This is the time I have for reading my Bible, taking care of my soul, going to church.\u00a0 These are my priorities.\u201d\u00a0 In other words, schedule your priorities; otherwise, the urgent will tyrannize you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What you are saying is to all incoming college freshmen:\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(audio clip from the <em>Wizard of Oz<\/em> begins playing)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dorothy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Toto, I have the feeling we\u2019re not in Kansas anymore.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re not in Kansas anymore.\u00a0 Amen to that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is not high school anymore.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to have a different game plan as you go to college because if you don\u2019t, there are enough distractions and enough people who do have a plan for your life\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014who\u2019ll pull and tug you in all different kinds of directions.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely right.\u00a0 Absolutely right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m convinced a part of my success in college was tied to one very fundamental principle.\u00a0 Go sit on the front row\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014of the class.\u00a0 Find a way to be there, be near the professor.\u00a0 It\u2019s eye-to-eye contact.\u00a0 It helps someone who can get distracted by something else.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 My concentration would go up.\u00a0 It made the difference between, in many cases, a B or a C, and even times, I lucked out, an A.\u00a0 (laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019d be surprised.\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 The front row is usually the stronger students who want to learn and are there to be motivated.\u00a0 There is a correlation to where you sit in the classroom and how much you get out of the class.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is a little easier to focus and to concentrate.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good discipline to head up to the front row just because it is harder to tune out when you\u2019re right there in front.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\u00a0 You know the professor is watching you more closely and is able to call on you at any moment.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 One thing that I tell my students is that \u201cHey, I\u2019m going to call on you at any moment in time.\u201d\u00a0 I don\u2019t just say, \u201cRaise your hand.\u201d\u00a0 I say, \u201cI\u2019m going to call on you at any point in time and ask you to answer something.\u00a0 So, don\u2019t be surprised if I do that.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to do it to everybody.\u201d\u00a0 That way, they kind of\u2014things I do as a faculty to try to keep them alert and keep their focus because you can\u2019t really learn in three-minute sound bites.\u00a0 You have to learn through concentrating over a significant period of time.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How often do students do students go to sleep in your class?\u00a0 Now, be honest.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 It does not happen, honestly, because I have learned\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You are that compelling about physics?!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 I try to be.\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I have had students occasionally drift off, but usually I will call upon them at that moment.\u00a0 (laughter)\u00a0 The fear factor\u2014I\u2019ve had students turn bright red.\u00a0 I will call on\u2014I remember a guy named\u2014I\u2019ll call him Steve.\u00a0 Let\u2019s call him Steve in case he listens to this broadcast.\u00a0 I called on Steve.\u00a0 He was doing one of these\u2014his head was bobbing, he was starting to fall over.\u00a0 I said, \u201cSteve, how do you answer this question?\u201d\u00a0 He looked at me.\u00a0 I looked at him and smiled as if he\u2014he knew that I knew that he was falling asleep.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 He was busted.\u00a0 He\u2019d been caught.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 He turned bright red, and it never happened again.\u00a0 (laughter)\u00a0 I only have about 35 people in a room at one time.\u00a0 I can do that.\u00a0 If there were 300, I couldn\u2019t do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 This is one of the principles you write about, again, in your book is, \u201cTrain your sons and daughters to get enough sleep when they go to college,\u201d because they are going to find plenty of opportunities to be up\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014with Bob going to the movies at midnight.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 That\u2019s right\u2014just a consistency of sleep, a consistent pattern.\u00a0 I had a friend\u2014let\u2019s call him Bob\u2014in college.\u00a0 He would sleep four hours a night.\u00a0 He\u2019d stay up playing games, doing homework, or talking to friends.\u00a0 He would go to sleep at 1:00 in the morning; wake up at 5:00 and catch up on all his homework that he was behind on.\u00a0 Do that on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.\u00a0 Then, come the weekend, he\u2019d sleep literally 12, 13 hours a night.\u00a0 Absolutely crash out.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019d think Monday morning he\u2019s ready to go, full of energy, right?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 His body has been trained to wake up at 1:00 in the afternoon.\u00a0 So now, Monday morning, he wakes up.\u00a0 He goes to class.\u00a0 He\u2019s totally irritable and exhausted.\u00a0 His body never got to learn a consistency.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, one of the things I encourage them is to pick a bed time, a reasonable bed time, a time that allows you some time to enjoy your roommates and your dorm mates, have some enjoyment, but also get your homework done.\u00a0 Pick it and keep it.\u00a0 Wake up at a certain time.\u00a0 Train your body:\u00a0 \u201cThis is work time; this is fun time.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Alex, one other thing that you mention; and that is, \u201cTurn your computer off one to two hours before you do go to bed.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve found that useful for myself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Me, too.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m not in college, but I\u2019ve found if I stay in front of a computer screen\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014even for that matter, in front of the TV\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Exactly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014right up until the time I go to bed, it takes my brain\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014a little bit of time to unplug from all the stimulation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 If I\u2019ve really been working on things at work late at night\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u20149:30, 10:00, 10:30, I\u2019m toast for an hour, maybe an hour and a half.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve got to pull out a book and read\u2014something that helps me settle down and, ultimately, just go to sleep.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s great advice for young people.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex: <\/strong>\u00a0Well, thank you.\u00a0 Thank you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This kind of practical counsel that we\u2019re talking about here as you are preparing to release a son or daughter to a college campus\u2014afterwards, you think, \u201cI should have told them this or I should have told them that or\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014\u201cI didn\u2019t even think about that area.\u201d\u00a0 One of the great benefits that you\u2019ve given us, Alex, as parents is you put this information in a book that students can read.\u00a0 Written to students, for students\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 (laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s some discipline that\u2014I\u2019m trying to think as a parent, \u201cHow do we help our kids cultivate these kinds of disciplines so that when they are on their own, some of that may kick back in?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I think in high school a part of it is helping them to own their decisions.\u00a0 Saying, \u201cHey look.\u00a0 You have a schedule.\u00a0 You have 24 hours a day, seven days a week.\u00a0 How are you going to balance your work load, your job, your sports?\u201d\u00a0 Helping them with some of the skills that I talk about in Chapter Two there of making a schedule.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe schedule is not just, \u201cThis is when I\u2019m in class.\u201d\u00a0 It is, \u201cThis is when I\u2019m having dinner with my friends,\u201d which is an important thing to do.\u00a0 \u201cThis is when I\u2019m sleeping.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to make sure that I get seven to eight hours of sleep at night.\u201d\u00a0 You\u2019d be surprised how many students burn out for lack of sleep.\u00a0 \u201cThis is when I\u2019m going to be in the library.\u00a0 This is when I\u2019m going to be studying for my classes.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tCarving all that out and then, saying, \u201cThis is my time that I have for recreation and for fun.\u00a0 This is the time I have for work.\u00a0 This is time I have for sleep, taking care of my body.\u00a0 This is the time I have for reading my Bible, taking care of my soul, going to church.\u00a0 These are my priorities.\u201d\u00a0 In other words, schedule your priorities; otherwise, the urgent will tyrannize you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What you are saying is to all incoming college freshmen:\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(audio clip from the <em>Wizard of Oz<\/em> begins playing)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dorothy:<\/strong>\u00a0 Toto, I have the feeling we\u2019re not in Kansas anymore.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re not in Kansas anymore.\u00a0 Amen to that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is not high school anymore.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to have a different game plan as you go to college because if you don\u2019t, there are enough distractions and enough people who do have a plan for your life\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014who\u2019ll pull and tug you in all different kinds of directions.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely right.\u00a0 Absolutely right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m convinced a part of my success in college was tied to one very fundamental principle.\u00a0 Go sit on the front row\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014of the class.\u00a0 Find a way to be there, be near the professor.\u00a0 It\u2019s eye-to-eye contact.\u00a0 It helps someone who can get distracted by something else.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 My concentration would go up.\u00a0 It made the difference between, in many cases, a B or a C, and even times, I lucked out, an A.\u00a0 (laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019d be surprised.\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 The front row is usually the stronger students who want to learn and are there to be motivated.\u00a0 There is a correlation to where you sit in the classroom and how much you get out of the class.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is a little easier to focus and to concentrate.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good discipline to head up to the front row just because it is harder to tune out when you\u2019re right there in front.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\u00a0 You know the professor is watching you more closely and is able to call on you at any moment.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 One thing that I tell my students is that \u201cHey, I\u2019m going to call on you at any moment in time.\u201d\u00a0 I don\u2019t just say, \u201cRaise your hand.\u201d\u00a0 I say, \u201cI\u2019m going to call on you at any point in time and ask you to answer something.\u00a0 So, don\u2019t be surprised if I do that.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to do it to everybody.\u201d\u00a0 That way, they kind of\u2014things I do as a faculty to try to keep them alert and keep their focus because you can\u2019t really learn in three-minute sound bites.\u00a0 You have to learn through concentrating over a significant period of time.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How often do students do students go to sleep in your class?\u00a0 Now, be honest.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 It does not happen, honestly, because I have learned\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You are that compelling about physics?!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 I try to be.\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I have had students occasionally drift off, but usually I will call upon them at that moment.\u00a0 (laughter)\u00a0 The fear factor\u2014I\u2019ve had students turn bright red.\u00a0 I will call on\u2014I remember a guy named\u2014I\u2019ll call him Steve.\u00a0 Let\u2019s call him Steve in case he listens to this broadcast.\u00a0 I called on Steve.\u00a0 He was doing one of these\u2014his head was bobbing, he was starting to fall over.\u00a0 I said, \u201cSteve, how do you answer this question?\u201d\u00a0 He looked at me.\u00a0 I looked at him and smiled as if he\u2014he knew that I knew that he was falling asleep.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 He was busted.\u00a0 He\u2019d been caught.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 He turned bright red, and it never happened again.\u00a0 (laughter)\u00a0 I only have about 35 people in a room at one time.\u00a0 I can do that.\u00a0 If there were 300, I couldn\u2019t do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 This is one of the principles you write about, again, in your book is, \u201cTrain your sons and daughters to get enough sleep when they go to college,\u201d because they are going to find plenty of opportunities to be up\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014with Bob going to the movies at midnight.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 That\u2019s right\u2014just a consistency of sleep, a consistent pattern.\u00a0 I had a friend\u2014let\u2019s call him Bob\u2014in college.\u00a0 He would sleep four hours a night.\u00a0 He\u2019d stay up playing games, doing homework, or talking to friends.\u00a0 He would go to sleep at 1:00 in the morning; wake up at 5:00 and catch up on all his homework that he was behind on.\u00a0 Do that on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.\u00a0 Then, come the weekend, he\u2019d sleep literally 12, 13 hours a night.\u00a0 Absolutely crash out.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019d think Monday morning he\u2019s ready to go, full of energy, right?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 His body has been trained to wake up at 1:00 in the afternoon.\u00a0 So now, Monday morning, he wakes up.\u00a0 He goes to class.\u00a0 He\u2019s totally irritable and exhausted.\u00a0 His body never got to learn a consistency.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, one of the things I encourage them is to pick a bed time, a reasonable bed time, a time that allows you some time to enjoy your roommates and your dorm mates, have some enjoyment, but also get your homework done.\u00a0 Pick it and keep it.\u00a0 Wake up at a certain time.\u00a0 Train your body:\u00a0 \u201cThis is work time; this is fun time.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Alex, one other thing that you mention; and that is, \u201cTurn your computer off one to two hours before you do go to bed.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve found that useful for myself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Me, too.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m not in college, but I\u2019ve found if I stay in front of a computer screen\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014even for that matter, in front of the TV\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Exactly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014right up until the time I go to bed, it takes my brain\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014a little bit of time to unplug from all the stimulation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 If I\u2019ve really been working on things at work late at night\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u20149:30, 10:00, 10:30, I\u2019m toast for an hour, maybe an hour and a half.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve got to pull out a book and read\u2014something that helps me settle down and, ultimately, just go to sleep.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s great advice for young people.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex: <\/strong>\u00a0Well, thank you.\u00a0 Thank you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This kind of practical counsel that we\u2019re talking about here as you are preparing to release a son or daughter to a college campus\u2014afterwards, you think, \u201cI should have told them this or I should have told them that or\u2014\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Alex:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014\u201cI didn\u2019t even think about that area.\u201d\u00a0 One of the great benefits that you\u2019ve given us, Alex, as
