before.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Lisa, welcome for the first time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 It is great to be here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You are courageous to come and join Bob and me.\u00a0 Your mom has been here she knows.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m hoping she\u2019ll teach me the ropes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is a dangerous interview.\u00a0 You\u2019ve written a book called <em>The Seven Hardest Things God Asks a Woman to Do<\/em>.\u00a0 After you tell this story, I\u2019ve got a good question for both of you; but first of all, let me just explain who Lisa is.\u00a0 She is an author, speaker, wife, and a mom of three.\u00a0 She is the daughter of Kathie Reimer, and that\u2019s kind of how they collaborated together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKathie is also an author and an educator.\u00a0 She has two other children.\u00a0 All three are adult children now.\u00a0 Grandmother of three.\u00a0 She and her husband, Jim, live in Charlotte, North Carolina.\u00a0 Jim is a big, white-tail deer antler collector.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie: <\/strong>\u00a0Yes.\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve learned a lot before we\u2019ve come into the studio.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re not going to go there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re not.\u00a0 We\u2019re not going to there.\u00a0 We\u2019re going to resist that because we\u2019d offend 90% of our audience.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tExplain the story that Bob is referring to because I missed it.\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s a story about my mother and Lisa\u2019s grandmother.\u00a0 She lived with us the last five years of her life.\u00a0 One of the last trips that I made with her, we were driving down through a section of Springfield, Missouri, through an industrial area in town.\u00a0 She hadn\u2019t said a word.\u00a0 I was just driving; and out of the blue, she said, \u201cOh, look at that beautiful tree!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I looked over out her window to see what she was looking at.\u00a0 There was a junk yard with all kinds of car carcasses and rusting old appliances and all sorts of things.\u00a0 Then, way, way, back past all the junk and debris, there was a tree; and it was absolutely beautiful.\u00a0 It was fall, all the fall foliage.\u00a0 I was inspired.\u00a0 It was one of those moments I thought, \u201cLord, thank you for a woman who can see past all the debris and all the junk and see the beauty of your creation.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s the way she lived.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That picture became a metaphor for you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014that you carried over into the book.\u00a0\u00a0 What did you use it to illustrate?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was talking about how we need to in our busy, cluttered lives to single focus on Jesus.\u00a0 Sometimes, we need to focus on Him in the midst of storms and trials; and sometimes just in the midst of all the junk that every woman deals with regardless of her age and stage in life and see the beauty of Jesus in the midst of all that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You two joined together.\u00a0 It was originally your idea, Kathie, right?\u00a0 The title for this book?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, the title only.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You had the idea.\u00a0 As I read the title, I thought, \u201cI know the first question I want to ask both of them.\u201d\u00a0 We want to get to <em>The Seven Hardest Things God Asks a Woman to Do<\/em>.\u00a0 I want to get to those principles in a moment; but I want to ask both of you: what is the hardest thing God has ever asked you to do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Go, Lisa.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was going\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Go, Lisa.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014I was going to let\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Lisa had a\u2014she looked like the deer in the headlights.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Sorry, Lisa.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You were going to defer to Mom on that one?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was going to count on Mom to talk about and share about that first.\u00a0 Then, talk about what I wanted to say next.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 So, what about it, Lisa?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 The hardest thing that God has ever asked me to do is the job loss situation; I would say would be the hardest.\u00a0 When my husband lost his job and I could not control the outcome, it was not a quick process.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would say that was a real moment of surrender to me where all of the things in that I had learned in the Word, growing up as a pastor\u2019s daughter, that were great, rich concepts became very personalized.\u00a0 It was a huge moment of realizing.\u00a0 You have to surrender this.\u00a0 This is not something you can do in your own strength.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I am not in control\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014God, you are\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014I yield\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014and I back off.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s a hard one for me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is interesting: as Lisa gave hers, I thought, \u201cThat is mine too.\u201d\u00a0 Our temperaments are very different, which I love.\u00a0 I love the mix.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always loved Lisa\u2019s temperament.\u00a0 I come at that control issue as a fixer.\u00a0 Yet, it is still a control issue.\u00a0 I want to preempt problems.\u00a0 That is not all bad; but as a result, I want to fix situations.\u00a0 I get in the way of natural things that God wants to run their course.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tProbably, the most difficult thing God has asked me to do is to surrender the outcome of something that I didn\u2019t want to end the way it did.\u00a0 I wanted God to answer in a different way.\u00a0 All the time, I knew He might not; but when He didn\u2019t answer in that way, to surrender to Him and say, \u201cLord, I don\u2019t know where in the world this is going to go, but I know You\u2019re here.\u00a0 I know you have a plan in this, Lord.\u00a0 I\u2019ll just let You make that happen.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I appreciate both of you ladies being authentic in answering that question because like Bob said I don\u2019t think you are alone.\u00a0 I think the issue of control is a big deal in all of our lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we find ourselves, especially out of control in a big way, it is in those moments that I think the Holy Spirit can use the Bible.\u00a0 He can use other followers of Christ who, as you illustrated, Kathie, can come along side us and give us grace to be struggling.\u00a0 It is in those moments when you dare not be alone.\u00a0 You better be not only walking with Christ, but you better have some good friends at your side and, hopefully, your spouse with you as well to deal with those issues.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, both of you have tackled the subject.\u00a0 When I sat down to prepare for the studio and missed the story of the junk yard, by the way\u2014when I sat down to prepare, though, I really didn\u2019t know what you were going to say.\u00a0 What are the seven hardest things God asks a woman to do?\u00a0 How did you all decide this?\u00a0 Was it based upon your experience, interviews?\u00a0 How did you come about the seven?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 If I am being completely honest about this, Mom did come up with the concept for the book, which I thought was fantastic.\u00a0 So, she allowed me to ride her wonderful coat-tails and be a part of the project.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t really have a writing ambition to be quite honest with you, but we were asked to teach a class for our church.\u00a0 Because of our varying personalities, we like to team up together and do things and show that these can be principles that are applicable to any temperament of a woman.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, we had a seven week slot that we needed to fill.\u00a0 Originally, Mom had come up with ten hardest things.\u00a0 We, literally, sat at my kitchen table and said, \u201cLet\u2019s look at these.\u00a0 What are really the core seven issues?\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s really where we arrived at the ones that we chose for the book.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When you started to wrestle with these seven hard things, it really got framed in the area of paradox because ever one of the seven has a point and a counter-point.\u00a0 God asked you to do this, but it is almost like He asked you to do this and then the opposite of it simultaneously.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 They seem to be in contradiction with one another.\u00a0 Really they kind of join together and marry; so, that was something that God really impressed on Mom was this idea of these kind of paradoxes that I feel make the book very interesting and then also very important to point out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, for example, Kathie, you talk in the book about God calling women and actually, I think, creating women to be able to multi-task.\u00a0 It is one of those things that women seem to be able to do, maybe better than men in a lot of situations.\u00a0 Yet, at the same time He is calling you to multi-task, He\u2019s calling you to have a single focus.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 That is right.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been married a long time, a long, wonderful time\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You kind of used the word long.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 I know it\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 LONG.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014I probably need to restate that because it has been a long, wonderful journey.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 How many years?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Forty-six.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 Moving in on fifty.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I know.\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 I don\u2019t even feel like I am fifty, but\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYes.\u00a0 I do think it is the difference in men and women because of the roles that we play.\u00a0 We are equipped to multi-task.\u00a0 I think my husband is a man\u2019s man, pretty typical.\u00a0 He always says, \u201cLet\u2019s do one thing at a time.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Lisa, you feel like you\u2019re a natural multi-tasker?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 I do.\u00a0 I would say that I\u2019m able to juggle tasks.\u00a0 I do better when I have pressure, just my personality.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always been that way.\u00a0 I am a multi-tasker\u2014absolutely, as a mom.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know how you couldn\u2019t be, especially if you have multiple children.\u00a0 You are multi-tasking all the time.\u00a0 So, it is difficult to single focus when you do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s the hard thing.\u00a0 Multi-tasking kind of comes easy.\u00a0 The hard thing is to have a single focus.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 I think multi-tasking is hard as well.\u00a0 If you talk to any mom who had multiple children, she would say, \u201cIt\u2019s tough to multi-task.\u201d\u00a0 I think it is more naturally within us to do that.\u00a0 Part of that is we do just do what is placed in front of us.\u00a0 So, when we have those things to do, we take our role seriously and seek to do them well.\u00a0 It is still difficult to juggle all the things of life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It seemed that Barbara when we raising our children had this ability.\u00a0 She could be cooking dinner, she could be talking on the phone, and she had a radar out that was saying younger brother is about to lose his life to the older brother in the upstairs bedroom.\u00a0 Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep.\u00a0 She would run to that situation and be able to multi-task.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember on more than one occasion staying home while she got away to a retreat or did something for herself.\u00a0 I would be praying for her return.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBecause as a father, I was not nearly as good at multi-tasking.\u00a0 Now, there is a gender difference here, I think.\u00a0 Men tend to be more singularly focused than women do.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s why we need each other.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That doesn\u2019t mean, though, that men are necessarily singularly focused on the right thing.\u00a0 When you talk about a woman needing to be single focused, what you are really saying is she needs to have a foundational priority in her life that in the middle of her multi-tasking there is an anchor that keeps her centered, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Absolutely.\u00a0 It goes back to that tree story that Jesus must be the focus, our central focus.\u00a0 If He isn\u2019t, then our central focus is going to be ourselves.\u00a0 Not just ourselves, but our family, our opinions, anything that has to do with us and all of life\u2019s loose-ends are just going to keep on flapping if we don\u2019t have Him as our central focus.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn Colossians, He is the consistency of life.\u00a0 He\u2019s the one who holds everything together.\u00a0 So, He must be our single focus.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re quoting Colossians 1:18, which used to be the verse that I called all the eleven and twelve year olds to memorize in my sixth grade Sunday school class.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, this is in <em>Passport to Purity<\/em> in the curriculum.\u00a0 We put it to music in there.\u00a0 Kids learn it and sing along.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 It is just calling boys and girls, as far as that is concerned, to\u2014well, here is the verse.\u00a0 It says it very clearly.\u00a0 \u201cAnd [Jesus Christ] is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the first born from the dead that in everything He might be preeminent.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI like to tell the kids in my class\u2014I said, \u201cJesus Christ came to have first place in everything.\u00a0 You\u2019ll never go wrong with Him being the center focus of your life.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s really what you\u2019re calling women to do in the midst of all the multi-tasking, multi-being, and multi-doing that women have to perform on a day in and day out basis.\u00a0 You\u2019re really calling women back to the simplicity of loving Jesus Christ with their whole hearts.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m curious what that focus looks like for both of you.\u00a0 How do you keep that central focus in your own life?\u00a0 You are busy women.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got a lot of different assignments.\u00a0 You\u2019re a mom, an author, a speaker, Lisa.\u00a0 Kathie, you\u2019re a grandmother, you write, you speak.\u00a0 How do you stay single focused on a practical level?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m thinking of listeners who are listening to us.\u00a0 They\u2019re going, \u201cI\u2019m a mother of three kids. I\u2019ve got this; and today, I\u2019ve got this and that.\u00a0 I\u2019m trying to maintain my focus on the Lord, but life has a way of crowding that out.\u201d\u00a0 How do you keep your focus where it belongs?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Life does definitely have the ability to crowd that out.\u00a0 Lisa is on a different level than I am, a different place in life; but I have also been there.\u00a0 My multi-tasking is different from hers, but the need to focus on Jesus as our source of everything always exists.\u00a0 Both of us came to know Him as children.\u00a0 We focused on Him as the source of our salvation.\u00a0 He continues to be the source of our strength.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think how that plays out depends on a person\u2019s individual life, temperament, circumstances.\u00a0 For me, because of my temperament, primarily, I am a person that feels a dependency.\u00a0 I feel a need to have Him as my focus because I know I can\u2019t do it without Him.\u00a0 I\u2019m not smart enough, I\u2019m not bold enough, not wise enough; but it is not all bad to feel inadequate.\u00a0 We are inadequate; so, we might as well admit it whether we\u2019re confident people or whether we lack confidence.\u00a0 We\u2019re inadequate.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, to focus on Him as my source, sometimes I have to refocus (kind of like spiritual window cleaner).\u00a0 I realized a few years ago that I was a news junkie.\u00a0 I kept turning on the news to just see if something had happened since I had watched last night.\u00a0 I realized I needed to turn that off because I don\u2019t know how loudly Jesus had been crying for my attention.\u00a0 I just didn\u2019t hear him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt could be a card, a greeting card, with a picture of Jesus on it; an open Bible; whatever will remind us of who He is in our lives.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is a lot of noise today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s what you\u2019re saying.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 In order to get that focus, you\u2019ve got to reduce the noise.\u00a0 Lisa, how would you answer Bob\u2019s question?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 What Mom said about her temperament and feeling inadequate, I think through a series of things in my life that regardless of the fact that I\u2019m kind of more of a Type-A person and feel like I can juggle things and handle things.\u00a0 I think through a series of things in my life God has shown me that, that\u2019s not true.\u00a0 I can\u2019t do it without Him.\u00a0 So, I too feel inadequate without Jesus at this point in my life.\u00a0 Although there have been many days of my life that I\u2019ve thought I could do it myself, I\u2019ve come back to that place.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI certainly understand that multi-tasking is something that moms, people in my season in life, have to do and juggle.\u00a0 Many of my friends have said to me, \u201cI don\u2019t have time for God.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have time to have my quiet time or spend time in fellowship with Him and reading the Word.\u201d\u00a0 I have talked to them about the fact that \u201cYou really don\u2019t have time not to focus on God.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s just really the core of it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere is no magic pill you can take.\u00a0 This is the Christian walk.\u00a0 This is a discipline of the Christian walk.\u00a0 You make time for God.\u00a0 That has to become important to you.\u00a0 You have to see through a series of your life, in your life, that is not something you can do by yourself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to say no to some other things.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\u00a0 I think too, Bob, that we say yes to so many things and that we crowd Him out; then, we say, \u201cWe don\u2019t have time for you.\u201d\u00a0 The reality is that He is the most important things in our life.\u00a0 The roles that we have are roles that He\u2019s given to us that are beautiful, wonderful things.\u00a0 Many times, I think just enhance and bring joy in life, but He is our creator.\u00a0 We were created to have fellowship with Him and that is our core, primary reason to represent Him on this earth.\u00a0 That\u2019s what we\u2019re here to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Whether male or female.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 God is calling everybody to do what is right in the midst of the hard thing you\u2019re facing, whether that is multi-tasking or being a singularly focused person.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe passage that came to my mind, just to kind of summarize the broadcast today, John 15:4.\u00a0 These are the words of Christ.\u00a0 He said, \u201cAbide in me.\u201d\u00a0 Abide in me.\u00a0 That word, abide, means to draw the essence of your life from Christ.\u00a0 \u201cAbide in me, and I in you.\u00a0 As a branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine; I\u2019ve learned a lot before we\u2019ve come into the studio.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re not going to go there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We\u2019re not.\u00a0 We\u2019re not going to there.\u00a0 We\u2019re going to resist that because we\u2019d offend 90% of our audience.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tExplain the story that Bob is referring to because I missed it.\u00a0 I\u2019m sorry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s a story about my mother and Lisa\u2019s grandmother.\u00a0 She lived with us the last five years of her life.\u00a0 One of the last trips that I made with her, we were driving down through a section of Springfield, Missouri, through an industrial area in town.\u00a0 She hadn\u2019t said a word.\u00a0 I was just driving; and out of the blue, she said, \u201cOh, look at that beautiful tree!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, I looked over out her window to see what she was looking at.\u00a0 There was a junk yard with all kinds of car carcasses and rusting old appliances and all sorts of things.\u00a0 Then, way, way, back past all the junk and debris, there was a tree; and it was absolutely beautiful.\u00a0 It was fall, all the fall foliage.\u00a0 I was inspired.\u00a0 It was one of those moments I thought, \u201cLord, thank you for a woman who can see past all the debris and all the junk and see the beauty of your creation.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s the way she lived.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That picture became a metaphor for you\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014that you carried over into the book.\u00a0\u00a0 What did you use it to illustrate?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was talking about how we need to in our busy, cluttered lives to single focus on Jesus.\u00a0 Sometimes, we need to focus on Him in the midst of storms and trials; and sometimes just in the midst of all the junk that every woman deals with regardless of her age and stage in life and see the beauty of Jesus in the midst of all that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You two joined together.\u00a0 It was originally your idea, Kathie, right?\u00a0 The title for this book?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, the title only.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You had the idea.\u00a0 As I read the title, I thought, \u201cI know the first question I want to ask both of them.\u201d\u00a0 We want to get to <em>The Seven Hardest Things God Asks a Woman to Do<\/em>.\u00a0 I want to get to those principles in a moment; but I want to ask both of you: what is the hardest thing God has ever asked you to do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Go, Lisa.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was going\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Go, Lisa.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014I was going to one?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was going to count on Mom to talk about and share about that first.\u00a0 Then, talk about what I wanted to say next.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 So, what about it, Lisa?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 The hardest thing that God has ever asked me to do is the job loss situation; I would say would be the hardest.\u00a0 When my husband lost his job and I could not control the outcome, it was not a quick process.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would say that was a real moment of surrender to me where all of the things in that I had learned in the Word, growing up as a pastor\u2019s daughter, that were great, rich concepts became very personalized.\u00a0 It was a huge moment of realizing.\u00a0 You have to surrender this.\u00a0 This is not something you can do in your own strength.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I am not in control\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014God, you are\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014I yield\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014and I back off.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s a hard one for me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is interesting: as Lisa gave hers, I thought, \u201cThat is mine too.\u201d\u00a0 Our temperaments are very different, which I love.\u00a0 I love the mix.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always loved Lisa\u2019s temperament.\u00a0 I come at that control issue as a fixer.\u00a0 Yet, it is still a control issue.\u00a0 I want to preempt problems.\u00a0 That is not all bad; but as a result, I want to fix situations.\u00a0 I get in the way of natural things that God wants to run their course.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tProbably, the most difficult thing God has asked me to do is to surrender the outcome of something that I didn\u2019t want to end the way it did.\u00a0 I wanted God to answer in a different way.\u00a0 All the time, I knew He might not; but when He didn\u2019t answer in that way, to surrender to Him and say, \u201cLord, I don\u2019t know where in the world this is going to go, but I know You\u2019re here.\u00a0 I know you have a plan in this, Lord.\u00a0 I\u2019ll just let You make that happen.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I appreciate both of you ladies being authentic in answering that question because like Bob said I don\u2019t think you are alone.\u00a0 I think the issue of control is a big deal in all of our lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we find ourselves, especially out of control in a big way, it is in those moments that I think the Holy Spirit can use the Bible.\u00a0 He can use other followers of Christ who, as you illustrated, Kathie, can come along side us and give us grace to be struggling.\u00a0 It is in those moments when you dare not be alone.\u00a0 You better be not only walking with Christ, but you better have some good friends at your side and, hopefully, your spouse with you as well to deal with those issues.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, both of you have tackled the subject.\u00a0 When I sat down to prepare for the studio and missed the story of the junk yard, by the way\u2014when I sat down to prepare, though, I really didn\u2019t know what you were going to say.\u00a0 What are the seven hardest things God asks a woman to do?\u00a0 How did you all decide this?\u00a0 Was it based upon your experience, interviews?\u00a0 How did you come about the seven?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 If I am being completely honest about this, Mom did come up with the concept for the book, which I thought was fantastic.\u00a0 So, she allowed me to ride her wonderful coat-tails and be a part of the project.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t really have a writing ambition to be quite honest with you, but we were asked to teach a class for our church.\u00a0 Because of our varying personalities, we like to team up together and do things and show that these can be principles that are applicable to any temperament of a woman.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, we had a seven week slot that we needed to fill.\u00a0 Originally, Mom had come up with ten hardest things.\u00a0 We, literally, sat at my kitchen table and said, \u201cLet\u2019s look at these.\u00a0 What are really the core seven issues?\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s really where we arrived at the ones that we chose for the book.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 When you started to wrestle with these seven hard things, it really got framed in the area of paradox because ever one of the seven has a point and a counter-point.\u00a0 God asked you to do this, but it is almost like He asked you to do this and then the opposite of it simultaneously.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 They seem to be in contradiction with one another.\u00a0 Really they kind of join together and marry; so, that was something that God really impressed on Mom was this idea of these kind of paradoxes that I feel make the book very interesting and then also very important to point out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So, for example, Kathie, you talk in the book about God calling women and actually, I think, creating women to be able to multi-task.\u00a0 It is one of those things that women seem to be able to do, maybe better than men in a lot of situations.\u00a0 Yet, at the same time He is calling you to multi-task, He\u2019s calling you to have a single focus.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 That is right.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been married a long time, a long, wonderful time\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You kind of used the word long.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 I know it\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 LONG.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2014I probably need to restate that because it has been a long, wonderful journey.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 How many years?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Forty-six.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow.\u00a0 Moving in on fifty.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I know.\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 I don\u2019t even feel like I am fifty, but\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYes.\u00a0 I do think it is the difference in men and women because of the roles that we play.\u00a0 We are equipped to multi-task.\u00a0 I think my husband is a man\u2019s man, pretty typical.\u00a0 He always says, \u201cLet\u2019s do one thing at a time.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Lisa, you feel like you\u2019re a natural multi-tasker?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 I do.\u00a0 I would say that I\u2019m able to juggle tasks.\u00a0 I do better when I have pressure, just my personality.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always been that way.\u00a0 I am a multi-tasker\u2014absolutely, as a mom.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know how you couldn\u2019t be, especially if you have multiple children.\u00a0 You are multi-tasking all the time.\u00a0 So, it is difficult to single focus when you do that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s the hard thing.\u00a0 Multi-tasking kind of comes easy.\u00a0 The hard thing is to have a single focus.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 I think multi-tasking is hard as well.\u00a0 If you talk to any mom who had multiple children, she would say, \u201cIt\u2019s tough to multi-task.\u201d\u00a0 I think it is more naturally within us to do that.\u00a0 Part of that is we do just do what is placed in front of us.\u00a0 So, when we have those things to do, we take our role seriously and seek to do them well.\u00a0 It is still difficult to juggle all the things of life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It seemed that Barbara when we raising our children had this ability.\u00a0 She could be cooking dinner, she could be talking on the phone, and she had a radar out that was saying younger brother is about to lose his life to the older brother in the upstairs bedroom.\u00a0 Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep-Beep.\u00a0 She would run to that situation and be able to multi-task.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember on more than one occasion staying home while she got away to a retreat or did something for herself.\u00a0 I would be praying for her return.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBecause as a father, I was not nearly as good at multi-tasking.\u00a0 Now, there is a gender difference here, I think.\u00a0 Men tend to be more singularly focused than women do.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s why we need each other.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That doesn\u2019t mean, though, that men are necessarily singularly focused on the right thing.\u00a0 When you talk about a woman needing to be single focused, what you are really saying is she needs to have a foundational priority in her life that in the middle of her multi-tasking there is an anchor that keeps her centered, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Absolutely.\u00a0 It goes back to that tree story that Jesus must be the focus, our central focus.\u00a0 If He isn\u2019t, then our central focus is going to be ourselves.\u00a0 Not just ourselves, but our family, our opinions, anything that has to do with us and all of life\u2019s loose-ends are just going to keep on flapping if we don\u2019t have Him as our central focus.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn Colossians, He is the consistency of life.\u00a0 He\u2019s the one who holds everything together.\u00a0 So, He must be our single focus.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019re quoting Colossians 1:18, which used to be the verse that I called all the eleven and twelve year olds to memorize in my sixth grade Sunday school class.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, this is in <em>Passport to Purity<\/em> in the curriculum.\u00a0 We put it to music in there.\u00a0 Kids learn it and sing along.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 It is just calling boys and girls, as far as that is concerned, to\u2014well, here is the verse.\u00a0 It says it very clearly.\u00a0 \u201cAnd [Jesus Christ] is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the first born from the dead that in everything He might be preeminent.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI like to tell the kids in my class\u2014I said, \u201cJesus Christ came to have first place in everything.\u00a0 You\u2019ll never go wrong with Him being the center focus of your life.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s really what you\u2019re calling women to do in the midst of all the multi-tasking, multi-being, and multi-doing that women have to perform on a day in and day out basis.\u00a0 You\u2019re really calling women back to the simplicity of loving Jesus Christ with their whole hearts.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m curious what that focus looks like for both of you.\u00a0 How do you keep that central focus in your own life?\u00a0 You are busy women.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got a lot of different assignments.\u00a0 You\u2019re a mom, an author, a speaker, Lisa.\u00a0 Kathie, you\u2019re a grandmother, you write, you speak.\u00a0 How do you stay single focused on a practical level?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m thinking of listeners who are listening to us.\u00a0 They\u2019re going, \u201cI\u2019m a mother of three kids. I\u2019ve got this; and today, I\u2019ve got this and that.\u00a0 I\u2019m trying to maintain my focus on the Lord, but life has a way of crowding that out.\u201d\u00a0 How do you keep your focus where it belongs?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Life does definitely have the ability to crowd that out.\u00a0 Lisa is on a different level than I am, a different place in life; but I have also been there.\u00a0 My multi-tasking is different from hers, but the need to focus on Jesus as our source of everything always exists.\u00a0 Both of us came to know Him as children.\u00a0 We focused on Him as the source of our salvation.\u00a0 He continues to be the source of our strength.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think how that plays out depends on a person\u2019s individual life, temperament, circumstances.\u00a0 For me, because of my temperament, primarily, I am a person that feels a dependency.\u00a0 I feel a need to have Him as my focus because I know I can\u2019t do it without Him.\u00a0 I\u2019m not smart enough, I\u2019m not bold enough, not wise enough; but it is not all bad to feel inadequate.\u00a0 We are inadequate; so, we might as well admit it whether we\u2019re confident people or whether we lack confidence.\u00a0 We\u2019re inadequate.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, to focus on Him as my source, sometimes I have to refocus (kind of like spiritual window cleaner).\u00a0 I realized a few years ago that I was a news junkie.\u00a0 I kept turning on the news to just see if something had happened since I had watched last night.\u00a0 I realized I needed to turn that off because I don\u2019t know how loudly Jesus had been crying for my attention.\u00a0 I just didn\u2019t hear him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt could be a card, a greeting card, with a picture of Jesus on it; an open Bible; whatever will remind us of who He is in our lives.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is a lot of noise today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s what you\u2019re saying.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kathie:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 In order to get that focus, you\u2019ve got to reduce the noise.\u00a0 Lisa, how would you answer Bob\u2019s question?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 What Mom said about her temperament and feeling inadequate, I think through a series of things in my life that regardless of the fact that I\u2019m kind of more of a Type-A person and feel like I can juggle things and handle things.\u00a0 I think through a series of things in my life God has shown me that, that\u2019s not true.\u00a0 I can\u2019t do it without Him.\u00a0 So, I too feel inadequate without Jesus at this point in my life.\u00a0 Although there have been many days of my life that I\u2019ve thought I could do it myself, I\u2019ve come back to that place.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI certainly understand that multi-tasking is something that moms, people in my season in life, have to do and juggle.\u00a0 Many of my friends have said to me, \u201cI don\u2019t have time for God.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have time to have my quiet time or spend time in fellowship with Him and reading the Word.\u201d\u00a0 I have talked to them about the fact that \u201cYou really don\u2019t have time not to focus on God.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s just really the core of it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere is no magic pill you can take.\u00a0 This is the Christian walk.\u00a0 This is a discipline of the Christian walk.\u00a0 You make time for God.\u00a0 That has to become important to you.\u00a0 You have to see through a series of your life, in your life, that is not something you can do by yourself.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to say no to some other things.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\u00a0 I think too, Bob, that we say yes to so many things and that we crowd Him out; then, we say, \u201cWe don\u2019t have time for you.\u201d\u00a0 The reality is that He is the most important things in our life.\u00a0 The roles that we have are roles that He\u2019s given to us that are beautiful, wonderful things.\u00a0 Many times, I think just enhance and bring joy in life, but He is our creator.\u00a0 We were created to have fellowship with Him and that is our core, primary reason to represent Him on this earth.\u00a0 That\u2019s what we\u2019re here to do.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Whether male or female.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Lisa:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 God is calling everybody to do what is right in the midst of the hard thing you\u2019re facing, whether that is multi-tasking or being a singularly focused person.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe passage that came to my mind, just to kind of summarize the broadcast today, John 15:4.\u00a0 These are the words of Christ.\u00a0 He said, \u201cAbide in me.\u201d\u00a0 Abide in me.\u00a0 That word, abide, means to draw the essence of your life from Christ.\u00a0 \u201cAbide in me, and I in you.\u00a0 As a branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine;
