book called <em>Six Ways to Keep the Little in Your Girl.<\/em>\u00a0 She has authored a number of other books.\u00a0 She is a gifted woman, not only as a mom who is raising her own three, but also in terms of creating resources to help you as a parent raise your daughters as well.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDannah, before we get started on the topic here about really equipping moms to help their daughters grow up in a timely way.\u00a0 I want to ask you this question.\u00a0 Bob\u2019s going to groan, but I\u2019ll take that away from him here at the beginning.\u00a0 What\u2019s the most courageous thing that you\u2019ve ever done?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Me?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh-h-h . . .\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What\u2019s the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done?\u00a0 I love to ask this question of people, because most people don\u2019t think they\u2019re courageous, and yet everyone has done many courageous things because you faced fear down and you did your duty anyway.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And in this case, if you can\u2019t think of anything I know the answer, okay?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 You do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Uh-huh.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know what I\u2019ve done that\u2019s courageous?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I know the most courageous thing you\u2019ve done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 What is it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Don\u2019t tell her!\u00a0 And if you can\u2019t answer, we\u2019ll call your husband and let him answer for you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I will tell you that I went on a zip line with him on vacation this past year.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> No, no, no, no.\u00a0 That\u2019s not . . .\u00a0 I mean that\u2019s . . .\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m not buying that as the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 I\u2019m thinking the most courageous thing you and Bob have done together was a trip you took to China a couple of years ago.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah: <\/strong>\u00a0 Ah-h-h.\u00a0 That\u2019s so sweet of you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Tell our listeners about that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, after telling the Lord several years ago when we were in Zambia that we would take an orphan if he dropped one in our lap, and expecting that maybe one would come on one of those trips to Africa, he instead presented a 13-year-old orphan from China.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we got the phone call that this little girl needed a home, our little Lexi, 13 at the time, kept reminding us of the promise that we\u2019d made to the Lord.\u00a0 \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong with our house?\u00a0 Why are you calling everyone else?\u00a0 We have room for her.\u201d\u00a0 And the Lord provided everything, and within eight months we brought Autumn Gresh home to be a part of our family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Bringing in a 13-year-old who has lived a really difficult life and loving her takes \u2013 it\u2019s hard work.\u00a0 It takes some courage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, one of the greatest goals of my life is to break down the wall that separates us so that she can feel safe.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You said a lot in that sentence, because you\u2019re not only doing that for Autumn, the young lady you\u2019re now raising as your own and who is your own, but you\u2019ve also done it for your son and your daughter, Lexi, and you\u2019re also helping other moms around the country raise their daughters.\u00a0 It\u2019s part of what really spawned this book, <em>Six Ways to Keep the Little in Your Girl.<\/em>\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Earlier we talked about the first three of those six ways to keep the little in your girl.\u00a0 Why don\u2019t you review that just quickly for our listeners and then let\u2019s move on to number four, five and six if you would.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You want to get more mail, is that the deal?\u00a0 You want to talk about dolls again and . . .\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She\u2019s hitting some hot topics that I really agree with Dannah on. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Well, way number one, give her the right dolls to play with.\u00a0 Way number two, celebrate her body by punctuating her period, and way number three, unplug her from a plugged in world.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if you want to find part of conversation we\u2019ve already had where we unpacked some of that.\u00a0 The fourth way you address in your book has to do with how our kids are being marketed to, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Unbrand her, when the world tries to buy and sell her.\u00a0 This is kind of a hot button issue for me, because this deals with the issue of modesty.\u00a0 I hope that not just our daughters will hear this message, but some of the moms will hear the message that modesty is one of the most critical things that the church needs to start to get right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Christian community really doesn\u2019t have a healthy view of beauty and modesty, do we?\u00a0 I mean, honestly we just tend to struggle with the peril of the pendulum.\u00a0 We err on the side over here of sackcloth and then others just seem to rebel and have no limits.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 I really think that it comes from not understanding the way men are designed and what God\u2019s Word says.\u00a0 So let\u2019s go to God\u2019s Word to figure out how men are designed.\u00a0 Do you mind if I talk about you guys for a few minutes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s alright.\u00a0 Go ahead.\u00a0 We\u2019ll correct you if you get anything wrong.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got a couple of authorities here in the room.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think women, because they haven\u2019t, thank God, been in the mind of a man and they really need to just kind of buckle up to go there for a moment.\u00a0 Proverbs 5:18-19 is one of my favorite places to take women for instruction, and it says, \u201cRejoice in the wife of your youth, a loving doe, a graceful deer.\u00a0 May her breasts satisfy you always.\u00a0 May you ever be captivated by her love.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think God gives us in the original Hebrew language a more potent picture of what he\u2019s saying here, because that last phrase, \u201cMay you ever be captivated by her love,\u201d what woman doesn\u2019t want to captivate the man of her dreams? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt would have been better translated from Hebrew, \u201cMay you be intoxicated by her sex.\u201d\u00a0 This is very gritty, and it gave a very powerful picture of the power of a woman\u2019s beauty, the deepest secrets of her beauty, that they have the power to bring a man to be out of control, or rather under the control of that beauty.\u00a0 If you go back to the beginning of the verse, it says, \u201cRejoice in the wife of your youth.\u201d\u00a0 How many wives?\u00a0 It\u2019s a quiz.\u00a0 How many?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Just one.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 One wife!\u00a0 So girls listening right now, women, how many men are the deepest secrets of your beauty created for?\u00a0 One.\u00a0 One man.\u00a0 The low-cut shirts and the low-rise jeans and the tight, tight shirts are not in line with God\u2019s desire for you to be intoxicating to one man.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I remember a conversation that we had with one of our children about this subject.\u00a0 I think we were commenting on something that we thought really pushed the boundaries of modesty that this particular child was wearing.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember the child saying back to us, \u201cHave you been outside recently?\u00a0 You think this looks immodest?\u00a0 I mean, come on.\u00a0 Look at what\u2019s going on in the culture.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s to the point that, as a Dad, I\u2019ll look and go, \u201cBoy, that\u2019s immodest.\u201d\u00a0 But I think a lot of our girls are going, \u201cThis is just normal.\u00a0 Immodest is over there in that corner.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Well, we\u2019re making the world our level, rather than the Word of God our level.\u00a0 So we\u2019re building faulty homes, we\u2019re building a faulty premise, a faulty life to lean on.\u00a0 If I could just go into what really is the motivation behind those clothes \u2013 In the 1950s Marilyn Monroe really was our first beauty icon.\u00a0 Oddly enough, she was almost thirty when she was at the height of that beauty status.\u00a0 That\u2019s old for beauty icons today, right?\u00a0 But she was selling products, or they were using her to sell products to 20-year-old adult women, young adult women.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then they said, \u201cIf we want to increase our market share, we have to have more customers.\u201d\u00a0 So by the 1980s you had Brooke Shields, 15 years old, topless, nothing came between her and her Calvins.\u00a0 The worst thing of all is that within the last five years we have seen beauty icons as young as 13 years old, the likes of Miley Cyrus, Hannah Montana, Hilary Duff, selling beauty products to eight-, nine- and ten-year-old girls.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey commanded about $42 billion worth of spending in the last few years, each year, and much of that is being spent on mini-skirts, makeup and products that they\u2019re really not ready for.\u00a0 It creates in them a desire to attain an unattainable standard of beauty, and that hurts their hearts in the long run.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So if a Mom was on the phone right now, calling in, and says \u201cHey, my daughter who is nine years old wants to wear makeup.\u00a0 What should I say to her?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019d probably say, \u201cYou know what, baby?\u00a0 Some things are worth waiting for.\u201d\u00a0 And let me just speak to the fact that \u201cNo\u201d and waiting, even if the product itself isn\u2019t that bad. . .\u00a0 For example, my daughter wanted her ears pierced when she was in first grade.\u00a0 It\u2019s really not that bad to have your ears pierced, but you know what we did?\u00a0 We told her she could have her ears pierced when she could do her times tables.\u00a0 So she was in third grade.\u00a0 She had to exercise the muscle power of self-control and waiting.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAny time we do that for our kids it\u2019s good.\u00a0 But when we\u2019re giving them something like makeup, which recently I read an article that said that eye liner and mascara sales among eight- to twelve-year-olds doubled last year.\u00a0 Doubled!\u00a0 What is there to double?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 They\u2019re trying to create a market for it, aren\u2019t they?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes they are.\u00a0 The only thing that matters to them is the bottom line, the money.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 One of the things you do in the book that I really like because the theme of modesty can be interpreted by different people in different ways, and you took a stab at it.\u00a0 You created a \u201cTruth or Bare\u201d fashion test.\u00a0 You can\u2019t go through all these over the air . . .\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 We could make you take them.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Uh-h-h.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think so.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Go ahead.\u00a0 Stand up.\u00a0 The Raise and Praise test.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Raise and Praise test.\u00a0 What is that all about?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Raise and praise.\u00a0\u00a0 Just stand up with your daughter in front of a mirror in the clothes that you\u2019re wearing today, raise your hands up as if you\u2019re reaching up to praise God, and if anybody is showing any belly, you have my permission to poke it.\u00a0 Because bellies are intoxicating.\u00a0 Bellies are very powerful to the male mind, and so you want to cover them up.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow if your daughter happens to like the cropped top shirt, that\u2019s fine.\u00a0 Get her something to put under it so she still kind of gets that cool, trendy look, but there\u2019s a layer that\u2019s protecting her modesty.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay, the Mirror-Mirror test.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Mm hmm.\u00a0 How short is too short?\u00a0 This is for shorts and skirts.\u00a0 You just sit criss-cross applesauce in front of the mirror, and just be mindful that anything that you\u2019re seeing now is what everyone else is going to see.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I wish I\u2019d had this test as I was picking out prom dresses for my daughters.\u00a0 Let me tell you, Dannah, we had some really tough moments.\u00a0 I mean, it was supposed to be a celebration, for goodness sakes.\u00a0 Dad and Mom are going out to buy a prom dress for our gorgeous daughters.\u00a0 What is the Over and Out test?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Over and Out test -- Is my shirt too low?\u00a0 Just simply bend in front of a mirror and again, anything you can see is what everybody else will see.\u00a0 A lot of times girls stand up straight and tall and they think, \u201cWell, it\u2019s fine.\u201d\u00a0 But we live life moving; we bend over and there are people that stand over us when we\u2019re sitting, and things show that shouldn\u2019t probably show that are intoxicating.\u00a0 So it\u2019s just a simple test to take.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And the point is, when your children are smaller and little and still under your guidance as a parent, that means, probably all the way through high school until they leave the house, you really have, I believe, the responsibility as parents to run the tests.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Part of the issue here is that when a daughter is five or six or seven years old, let\u2019s be honest, her belly is not all that intoxicating.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if she bends over there\u2019s not anything that we need to worry about.\u00a0 Right?\u00a0 So moms will allow fashions at five and six and seven that they go, \u201cThere\u2019s no problem with this,\u201d but it\u2019s just setting a pattern.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and here\u2019s my big motivation for introducing it early, maybe at the age of eight I think is a really critical age to start to introduce these things.\u00a0 When a girl is somewhere between the ages of nine and twelve her body begins to change.\u00a0 She begins to develop breast buds, which is a big and sometimes uncomfortable, embarrassing thing for a young girl.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf we start to introduce the concept of modesty then, we run the risk of sending her the message that her body is bad.\u00a0 And that is not a message you want to send.\u00a0 Her body is a beautiful creation of God, and there are a few awkward years there where you\u2019re very, very self-conscious about it.\u00a0 That\u2019s not when you want to introduce the concept of modesty.\u00a0 You want to hit it three or four years before that happens.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was interested as I looked through your book and was going through the six ways to keep the little in your girl, that one of the things that you feel strongly about is that your house needs to be the house where the sleepovers happen, and you need to be the one putting the miles on the car.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 We are \u2013 it\u2019s actually the next secret, the next way.\u00a0 Become the carpool queen and the sleepover diva.\u00a0 What I love about being the carpool queen is, if I could just be brutally honest, I hate carpool.\u00a0 I used to hate carpool, I should say, because it just felt so mundane to me, and like somebody else could drive my kid to soccer practice and I could be getting something done.\u00a0 I just felt like I wasn\u2019t accomplishing anything.\u00a0 Then I began to ask for God\u2019s heart on it, and I began to learn that it is my opportunity to be Mom P.I., Private Investigator.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yeah, sure.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Because they are talking about things in the back seat that they don\u2019t realize I\u2019m hearing as I\u2019m listening to Bob and Dennis on the radio \u2013 with one ear.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 They think you\u2019re tuned out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 They think I\u2019m tuned out, and I get to hear who has a boyfriend, what teacher they like,\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Who\u2019s got a \u2018tude.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Who\u2019s got a \u2018tude, yes.\u00a0 I think that\u2019s a rather old word, but yes, who\u2019s got a \u2018tude.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, look who said it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The point is, you\u2019re looking in that rear view mirror and you\u2019re seeing some of the interactions taking place between those kids.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, exactly.\u00a0 Exactly\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And it gives a mom a chance to truly do a measurement.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 So now I love carpool.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And sleepovers?\u00a0 Come on.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, sleepovers kind of get on my nerves.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 But, if they\u2019re going to have them I want them to be at my house, so that I\u2019m there kind of monitoring it.\u00a0 My mom was the queen of sleepovers.\u00a0 She was always sitting right there, I remember, on our gray shag carpet while we were in the basement, and she was sitting there until we fell asleep.\u00a0 And she\u2019s my role model and I want to be like that, although I usually don\u2019t outlast them, somehow.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know how she did that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You said your mom also was a prayer warrior.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I think we downplay the power of a mom\u2019s prayer on behalf of young ladies growing up.\u00a0 Your mom prayed for you a bunch.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 And still does.\u00a0 And prayed from the book of Habakkuk!\u00a0 Anytime a woman is praying from Habakkuk she must be godly, because who reads that book?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No doubt.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 She said there\u2019s a verse in there that she\u2019s prayed over my life.\u00a0 \u201cWatch and see what amazing things I will do.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s my paraphrase, but it\u2019s just this anticipation that God was going to do something with her kids.\u00a0 She prayed it over both my brother and me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The last way to keep the little in your girl?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dream with her about her prince.\u00a0 We talked about this on the first day of broadcast, but I believe it\u2019s so important when she\u2019s a tween, maybe six, seven, eight years old, that you begin creating a vision of that wedding day she\u2019s going to have one day.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t do that, and if you\u2019re not positive about it, what happens in sixth or seventh or eighth grade, suddenly your daughter comes home and she\u2019s going out with someone. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0I\u2019ve had moms call me and say, \u201cI\u2019m so upset!\u00a0 How can this be?\u00a0 Why is she doing this?\u201d\u00a0 And I ask, \u201cWhen did you discuss with her what your family\u2019s dating standards were?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWell, we didn\u2019t talk about it because it wasn\u2019t time yet.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWell, obviously it was.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s so important when they\u2019re little to begin to develop that dream of someone so wonderful that they\u2019re worth waiting for.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You have what\u2019s called a \u201cBoy-Crazy Train\u201d that you try to keep your daughters off of?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How do you keep them from boarding this train?\u00a0 I have a feeling that if you could sell this kind of blockage to the door to the train, you could become wealthy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 We take away their tickets.\u00a0 We simply talk about boys a lot.\u00a0 A lot.\u00a0 And moms are always surprised when they hear that that\u2019s my strategy for keeping off the boy-crazy train, but I remember a day when Lexi was four or five years old, getting out my wedding dress from its special packaging, its beautiful box, and showing it to her.\u00a0 She was so amazed, and she said \u201cI want to wear that one day,\u201d which I promise you, she won\u2019t.\u00a0 It\u2019s from the 1980s.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut she wanted to try it on, so we have pictures of her in that dress, and we talked as a four- and five-year-old about that day that was coming one day.\u00a0 I truly believe that the greatest way to keep her off the boy-crazy train is to talk about it so far in advance that you\u2019re creating that dream.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI gave my daughter when she was on her ninth birthday, I gave her <em>The Princess and the Kiss<\/em>, to talk about saving her kiss for that wedding day.\u00a0 I\u2019ve just created that passion and that dream, and so I have a 16-year-old, a 17-year-old and a 20-year-old son who are really faithfully waiting for someone.\u00a0 They\u2019re not playing that date and breakup game that so many people get their hearts broken in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ll just mention that we have copies of the book you\u2019re talking about, <em>The Princess and the Kiss<\/em>, in our of us really understand that word, but it does seem to scare boys.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 The boy seems to know what a shenanigan is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 And they go away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dannah, I just appreciate your work being a champion for Christian families, helping raise a generation of young ladies who have a biblical approach to womanhood and being God\u2019s women and not just a replica of the world.\u00a0 You guys have done a great job in terms of being relevant and stating things in fresh ways.\u00a0 I would just commend this book to every mom who is listening.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn fact, I\u2019m thinking that before we\u2019re done here I\u2019m going to get two signed \u2013 actually three \u2013 for my daughters and daughters-in-law who have little girls they are raising.\u00a0 It\u2019s just a great book.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019d also encourage parents to get a copy of <em>Passport to Purity<\/em> and head some of these issues off at the pass in terms of creating resources to help you as a parent raise your daughters as well.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDannah, before we get started on the topic here about really equipping moms to help their daughters grow up in a timely way.\u00a0 I want to ask you this question.\u00a0 Bob\u2019s going to groan, but I\u2019ll take that away from him here at the beginning.\u00a0 What\u2019s the most courageous thing that you\u2019ve ever done?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Me?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh-h-h . . .\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What\u2019s the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done?\u00a0 I love to ask this question of people, because most people don\u2019t think they\u2019re courageous, and yet everyone has done many courageous things because you faced fear down and you did your duty anyway.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And in this case, if you can\u2019t think of anything I know the answer, okay?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 You do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Uh-huh.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know what I\u2019ve done that\u2019s courageous?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I know the most courageous thing you\u2019ve done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 What is it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Don\u2019t tell her!\u00a0 And if you can\u2019t answer, we\u2019ll call your husband and let him answer for you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, I will tell you that I went on a zip line with him on vacation this past year.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> No, no, no, no.\u00a0 That\u2019s not . . .\u00a0 I mean that\u2019s . . .\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m not buying that as the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 I\u2019m thinking the most courageous thing you and Bob have done together was a trip you took to China a couple of years ago.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah: <\/strong>\u00a0 Ah-h-h.\u00a0 That\u2019s so sweet of you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Tell our listeners about that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, after telling the Lord several years ago when we were in Zambia that we would take an orphan if he dropped one in our lap, and expecting that maybe one would come on one of those trips to Africa, he instead presented a 13-year-old orphan from China.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we got the phone call that this little girl needed a home, our little Lexi, 13 at the time, kept reminding us of the promise that we\u2019d made to the Lord.\u00a0 \u201cWhat\u2019s wrong with our house?\u00a0 Why are you calling everyone else?\u00a0 We have room for her.\u201d\u00a0 And the Lord provided everything, and within eight months we brought Autumn Gresh home to be a part of our family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Bringing in a 13-year-old who has lived a really difficult life and loving her takes \u2013 it\u2019s hard work.\u00a0 It takes some courage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, one of the greatest goals of my life is to break down the wall that separates us so that she can feel safe.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You said a lot in that sentence, because you\u2019re not only doing that for Autumn, the young lady you\u2019re now raising as your own and who is your own, but you\u2019ve also done it for your son and your daughter, Lexi, and you\u2019re also helping other moms around the country raise their daughters.\u00a0 It\u2019s part of what really spawned this book, <em>Six Ways to Keep the Little in Your Girl.<\/em>\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Earlier we talked about the first three of those six ways to keep the little in your girl.\u00a0 Why don\u2019t you review that just quickly for our listeners and then let\u2019s move on to number four, five and six if you would.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You want to get more mail, is that the deal?\u00a0 You want to talk about dolls again and . . .\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She\u2019s hitting some hot topics that I really agree with Dannah on. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Well, way number one, give her the right dolls to play with.\u00a0 Way number two, celebrate her body by punctuating her period, and way number three, unplug her from a plugged in world.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if you want to find right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Unbrand her, when the world tries to buy and sell her.\u00a0 This is kind of a hot button issue for me, because this deals with the issue of modesty.\u00a0 I hope that not just our daughters will hear this message, but some of the moms will hear the message that modesty is one of the most critical things that the church needs to start to get right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Christian community really doesn\u2019t have a healthy view of beauty and modesty, do we?\u00a0 I mean, honestly we just tend to struggle with the peril of the pendulum.\u00a0 We err on the side over here of sackcloth and then others just seem to rebel and have no limits.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 I really think that it comes from not understanding the way men are designed and what God\u2019s Word says.\u00a0 So let\u2019s go to God\u2019s Word to figure out how men are designed.\u00a0 Do you mind if I talk about you guys for a few minutes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s alright.\u00a0 Go ahead.\u00a0 We\u2019ll correct you if you get anything wrong.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly right.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got a couple of authorities here in the room.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think women, because they haven\u2019t, thank God, been in the mind of a man and they really need to just kind of buckle up to go there for a moment.\u00a0 Proverbs 5:18-19 is one of my favorite places to take women for instruction, and it says, \u201cRejoice in the wife of your youth, a loving doe, a graceful deer.\u00a0 May her breasts satisfy you always.\u00a0 May you ever be captivated by her love.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think God gives us in the original Hebrew language a more potent picture of what he\u2019s saying here, because that last phrase, \u201cMay you ever be captivated by her love,\u201d what woman doesn\u2019t want to captivate the man of her dreams? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt would have been better translated from Hebrew, \u201cMay you be intoxicated by her sex.\u201d\u00a0 This is very gritty, and it gave a very powerful picture of the power of a woman\u2019s beauty, the deepest secrets of her beauty, that they have the power to bring a man to be out of control, or rather under the control of that beauty.\u00a0 If you go back to the beginning of the verse, it says, \u201cRejoice in the wife of your youth.\u201d\u00a0 How many wives?\u00a0 It\u2019s a quiz.\u00a0 How many?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Just one.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 One wife!\u00a0 So girls listening right now, women, how many men are the deepest secrets of your beauty created for?\u00a0 One.\u00a0 One man.\u00a0 The low-cut shirts and the low-rise jeans and the tight, tight shirts are not in line with God\u2019s desire for you to be intoxicating to one man.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I remember a conversation that we had with one of our children about this subject.\u00a0 I think we were commenting on something that we thought really pushed the boundaries of modesty that this particular child was wearing.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI remember the child saying back to us, \u201cHave you been outside recently?\u00a0 You think this looks immodest?\u00a0 I mean, come on.\u00a0 Look at what\u2019s going on in the culture.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s to the point that, as a Dad, I\u2019ll look and go, \u201cBoy, that\u2019s immodest.\u201d\u00a0 But I think a lot of our girls are going, \u201cThis is just normal.\u00a0 Immodest is over there in that corner.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Well, we\u2019re making the world our level, rather than the Word of God our level.\u00a0 So we\u2019re building faulty homes, we\u2019re building a faulty premise, a faulty life to lean on.\u00a0 If I could just go into what really is the motivation behind those clothes \u2013 In the 1950s Marilyn Monroe really was our first beauty icon.\u00a0 Oddly enough, she was almost thirty when she was at the height of that beauty status.\u00a0 That\u2019s old for beauty icons today, right?\u00a0 But she was selling products, or they were using her to sell products to 20-year-old adult women, young adult women.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then they said, \u201cIf we want to increase our market share, we have to have more customers.\u201d\u00a0 So by the 1980s you had Brooke Shields, 15 years old, topless, nothing came between her and her Calvins.\u00a0 The worst thing of all is that within the last five years we have seen beauty icons as young as 13 years old, the likes of Miley Cyrus, Hannah Montana, Hilary Duff, selling beauty products to eight-, nine- and ten-year-old girls.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey commanded about $42 billion worth of spending in the last few years, each year, and much of that is being spent on mini-skirts, makeup and products that they\u2019re really not ready for.\u00a0 It creates in them a desire to attain an unattainable standard of beauty, and that hurts their hearts in the long run.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So if a Mom was on the phone right now, calling in, and says \u201cHey, my daughter who is nine years old wants to wear makeup.\u00a0 What should I say to her?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019d probably say, \u201cYou know what, baby?\u00a0 Some things are worth waiting for.\u201d\u00a0 And let me just speak to the fact that \u201cNo\u201d and waiting, even if the product itself isn\u2019t that bad. . .\u00a0 For example, my daughter wanted her ears pierced when she was in first grade.\u00a0 It\u2019s really not that bad to have your ears pierced, but you know what we did?\u00a0 We told her she could have her ears pierced when she could do her times tables.\u00a0 So she was in third grade.\u00a0 She had to exercise the muscle power of self-control and waiting.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAny time we do that for our kids it\u2019s good.\u00a0 But when we\u2019re giving them something like makeup, which recently I read an article that said that eye liner and mascara sales among eight- to twelve-year-olds doubled last year.\u00a0 Doubled!\u00a0 What is there to double?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 They\u2019re trying to create a market for it, aren\u2019t they?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes they are.\u00a0 The only thing that matters to them is the bottom line, the money.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 One of the things you do in the book that I really like because the theme of modesty can be interpreted by different people in different ways, and you took a stab at it.\u00a0 You created a \u201cTruth or Bare\u201d fashion test.\u00a0 You can\u2019t go through all these over the air . . .\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 We could make you take them.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Uh-h-h.\u00a0 I don\u2019t think so.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Go ahead.\u00a0 Stand up.\u00a0 The Raise and Praise test.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Raise and Praise test.\u00a0 What is that all about?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Raise and praise.\u00a0\u00a0 Just stand up with your daughter in front of a mirror in the clothes that you\u2019re wearing today, raise your hands up as if you\u2019re reaching up to praise God, and if anybody is showing any belly, you have my permission to poke it.\u00a0 Because bellies are intoxicating.\u00a0 Bellies are very powerful to the male mind, and so you want to cover them up.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow if your daughter happens to like the cropped top shirt, that\u2019s fine.\u00a0 Get her something to put under it so she still kind of gets that cool, trendy look, but there\u2019s a layer that\u2019s protecting her modesty.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay, the Mirror-Mirror test.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Mm hmm.\u00a0 How short is too short?\u00a0 This is for shorts and skirts.\u00a0 You just sit criss-cross applesauce in front of the mirror, and just be mindful that anything that you\u2019re seeing now is what everyone else is going to see.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I wish I\u2019d had this test as I was picking out prom dresses for my daughters.\u00a0 Let me tell you, Dannah, we had some really tough moments.\u00a0 I mean, it was supposed to be a celebration, for goodness sakes.\u00a0 Dad and Mom are going out to buy a prom dress for our gorgeous daughters.\u00a0 What is the Over and Out test?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Over and Out test -- Is my shirt too low?\u00a0 Just simply bend in front of a mirror and again, anything you can see is what everybody else will see.\u00a0 A lot of times girls stand up straight and tall and they think, \u201cWell, it\u2019s fine.\u201d\u00a0 But we live life moving; we bend over and there are people that stand over us when we\u2019re sitting, and things show that shouldn\u2019t probably show that are intoxicating.\u00a0 So it\u2019s just a simple test to take.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And the point is, when your children are smaller and little and still under your guidance as a parent, that means, probably all the way through high school until they leave the house, you really have, I believe, the responsibility as parents to run the tests.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Part of the issue here is that when a daughter is five or six or seven years old, let\u2019s be honest, her belly is not all that intoxicating.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And if she bends over there\u2019s not anything that we need to worry about.\u00a0 Right?\u00a0 So moms will allow fashions at five and six and seven that they go, \u201cThere\u2019s no problem with this,\u201d but it\u2019s just setting a pattern.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and here\u2019s my big motivation for introducing it early, maybe at the age of eight I think is a really critical age to start to introduce these things.\u00a0 When a girl is somewhere between the ages of nine and twelve her body begins to change.\u00a0 She begins to develop breast buds, which is a big and sometimes uncomfortable, embarrassing thing for a young girl.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf we start to introduce the concept of modesty then, we run the risk of sending her the message that her body is bad.\u00a0 And that is not a message you want to send.\u00a0 Her body is a beautiful creation of God, and there are a few awkward years there where you\u2019re very, very self-conscious about it.\u00a0 That\u2019s not when you want to introduce the concept of modesty.\u00a0 You want to hit it three or four years before that happens.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was interested as I looked through your book and was going through the six ways to keep the little in your girl, that one of the things that you feel strongly about is that your house needs to be the house where the sleepovers happen, and you need to be the one putting the miles on the car.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 We are \u2013 it\u2019s actually the next secret, the next way.\u00a0 Become the carpool queen and the sleepover diva.\u00a0 What I love about being the carpool queen is, if I could just be brutally honest, I hate carpool.\u00a0 I used to hate carpool, I should say, because it just felt so mundane to me, and like somebody else could drive my kid to soccer practice and I could be getting something done.\u00a0 I just felt like I wasn\u2019t accomplishing anything.\u00a0 Then I began to ask for God\u2019s heart on it, and I began to learn that it is my opportunity to be Mom P.I., Private Investigator.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yeah, sure.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Because they are talking about things in the back seat that they don\u2019t realize I\u2019m hearing as I\u2019m listening to Bob and Dennis on the radio \u2013 with one ear.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 They think you\u2019re tuned out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\u00a0 They think I\u2019m tuned out, and I get to hear who has a boyfriend, what teacher they like,\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Who\u2019s got a \u2018tude.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Who\u2019s got a \u2018tude, yes.\u00a0 I think that\u2019s a rather old word, but yes, who\u2019s got a \u2018tude.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, look who said it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The point is, you\u2019re looking in that rear view mirror and you\u2019re seeing some of the interactions taking place between those kids.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, exactly.\u00a0 Exactly\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And it gives a mom a chance to truly do a measurement.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 So now I love carpool.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And sleepovers?\u00a0 Come on.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, sleepovers kind of get on my nerves.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 But, if they\u2019re going to have them I want them to be at my house, so that I\u2019m there kind of monitoring it.\u00a0 My mom was the queen of sleepovers.\u00a0 She was always sitting right there, I remember, on our gray shag carpet while we were in the basement, and she was sitting there until we fell asleep.\u00a0 And she\u2019s my role model and I want to be like that, although I usually don\u2019t outlast them, somehow.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know how she did that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You said your mom also was a prayer warrior.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I think we downplay the power of a mom\u2019s prayer on behalf of young ladies growing up.\u00a0 Your mom prayed for you a bunch.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 And still does.\u00a0 And prayed from the book of Habakkuk!\u00a0 Anytime a woman is praying from Habakkuk she must be godly, because who reads that book?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No doubt.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 She said there\u2019s a verse in there that she\u2019s prayed over my life.\u00a0 \u201cWatch and see what amazing things I will do.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s my paraphrase, but it\u2019s just this anticipation that God was going to do something with her kids.\u00a0 She prayed it over both my brother and me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The last way to keep the little in your girl?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dream with her about her prince.\u00a0 We talked about this on the first day of broadcast, but I believe it\u2019s so important when she\u2019s a tween, maybe six, seven, eight years old, that you begin creating a vision of that wedding day she\u2019s going to have one day.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t do that, and if you\u2019re not positive about it, what happens in sixth or seventh or eighth grade, suddenly your daughter comes home and she\u2019s going out with someone. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0I\u2019ve had moms call me and say, \u201cI\u2019m so upset!\u00a0 How can this be?\u00a0 Why is she doing this?\u201d\u00a0 And I ask, \u201cWhen did you discuss with her what your family\u2019s dating standards were?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWell, we didn\u2019t talk about it because it wasn\u2019t time yet.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWell, obviously it was.\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s so important when they\u2019re little to begin to develop that dream of someone so wonderful that they\u2019re worth waiting for.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You have what\u2019s called a \u201cBoy-Crazy Train\u201d that you try to keep your daughters off of?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 How do you keep them from boarding this train?\u00a0 I have a feeling that if you could sell this kind of blockage to the door to the train, you could become wealthy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 We take away their tickets.\u00a0 We simply talk about boys a lot.\u00a0 A lot.\u00a0 And moms are always surprised when they hear that that\u2019s my strategy for keeping off the boy-crazy train, but I remember a day when Lexi was four or five years old, getting out my wedding dress from its special packaging, its beautiful box, and showing it to her.\u00a0 She was so amazed, and she said \u201cI want to wear that one day,\u201d which I promise you, she won\u2019t.\u00a0 It\u2019s from the 1980s.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut she wanted to try it on, so we have pictures of her in that dress, and we talked as a four- and five-year-old about that day that was coming one day.\u00a0 I truly believe that the greatest way to keep her off the boy-crazy train is to talk about it so far in advance that you\u2019re creating that dream.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI gave my daughter when she was on her ninth birthday, I gave her <em>The Princess and the Kiss<\/em>, to talk about saving her kiss for that wedding day.\u00a0 I\u2019ve just created that passion and that dream, and so I have a 16-year-old, a 17-year-old and a 20-year-old son who are really faithfully waiting for someone.\u00a0 They\u2019re not playing that date and breakup game that so many people get their hearts broken in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ll just mention that we have copies of the book you\u2019re talking about, <em>The Princess and the Kiss<\/em>, in our every time that there\u2019s a boy that approaches, the girls understand that if a guy is interested in them they have to talk to Dad, and he always tells them there will be no shenanigans.\u00a0 None of us really understand that word, but it does seem to scare boys.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 The boy seems to know what a shenanigan is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dannah:<\/strong>\u00a0 And they go away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Dannah, I just appreciate your work being a champion for Christian families, helping raise a generation of young ladies who have a biblical approach to womanhood and being God\u2019s women and not just a replica of the world.\u00a0 You guys have done a great job in terms of being relevant and stating things in fresh ways.\u00a0 I would just commend this book to every mom who is listening.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn fact, I\u2019m thinking that before we\u2019re done here I\u2019m going to get two signed \u2013 actually three \u2013 for my daughters and daughters-in-law who have little girls they are raising.\u00a0
