I\u2019ve earned money.\u00a0 I\u2019ve paid the bills.\u00a0 I\u2019ve put my kids through school, but what have I done of real significance?\u00a0 That\u2019s the recalibration \u2013 to use those skills that they prepared for.\u00a0 Now is payoff time.\u00a0 Now I\u2019m going to use them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is <em>FamilyLifeToday<\/em> for Friday, February 4<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the President of FamilyLife, Dennis Rainey, and I\u2019m Bob Lepine.\u00a0 Have you started making plans yet for how you will invest your life during payoff time?\u00a0 We\u2019ll talk about that today.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for joining us.\u00a0 You know, I\u2019m just doing the calculations here.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to be getting kind of close to retirement age, aren\u2019t you?\u00a0 I mean, you\u2019re getting \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Would you define the word \u201cretirement?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, there\u2019s kind of a general \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Are you wanting to take over?\u00a0 I\u2019m kind of wondering what\u2019s going on here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s kind of \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, no!\u00a0 They\u2019re at the door!\u00a0 I\u2019m out of here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Everybody\u2019s always \u2013 Isn\u2019t 65 when you\u2019re supposed to get your gold watch and head home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, that used to be.\u00a0 I mean, given the energy, the vision and frankly, where I am, looking at the needs of marriages and families, I hate to sound rash here, but I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll ever retire in the true, classic sense of that word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s interesting you mention that, because I was thinking of a couple I know, both of them in their 80s, and I was talking to them about the fact that you get into your 80s and you do start to slow down a little bit.\u00a0 Your body doesn\u2019t work the way it used to and your energy is not quite what it was. I said, \u201cSo, what do you guys do?\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cWe\u2019ve got the coolest thing we do.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got an intercessory prayer ministry that we do together as a couple.\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cFor years we talked about how we wished we had more time to pray for stuff.\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cNow we\u2019ve got the time.\u00a0 We get up.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got our list.\u00a0 We go to work and we just pray for folks who we\u2019ve never been able to pray for before.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s the exact kind of vision for life that the Christian community needs to embrace, proclaim and promote.\u00a0 I mean, we shouldn\u2019t see a bunch of Christians rusting out at the end of their lives; they need to wear out as they run to the finish line.\u00a0 We have a guest with us on our broadcast today \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 -- who wants to wear them out, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She does.\u00a0 Kay Marshall Strom joins us again on <em>FamilyLife Today. <\/em>\u00a0Kay, welcome back.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you so much.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, we\u2019ve already talked about how you want to bake a carrot cake \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 To dangle the carrot cake \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 --to dangle the carrot cake out there to motivate people to invest their lives.\u00a0 That\u2019s why you\u2019ve written this book, <em>The Second-Half Adventure.<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>You speak on this all over the country.\u00a0 In fact, you mentioned to me right before we came in here that you\u2019re having people come up, they\u2019re coming up to you and they\u2019re going, \u201cYou know, that\u2019s me that you wrote about in there.\u00a0 There <em>is<\/em> a place for me.\u201d\u00a0 Is that a question people have today?\u00a0 They wonder if there is a place for them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s a question they have, and many times they aren\u2019t asking.\u00a0 They don\u2019t know to ask it.\u00a0 But when an answer is offered them, they say, \u201cYes.\u00a0 That\u2019s what I want.\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly what I want.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the couples that I talked to that decided to sell their business, go into ministry, they built into their plan one year with an RV to travel around the country, visit friends, visit family, relax and vacation, for one year.\u00a0 And they said, \u201cThat was too long.\u00a0 It was too long for us, and too long for our friends.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, even the word \u201cretirement\u201d comes from the word \u201cretire,\u201d that\u2019s a military term.\u00a0 And it actually meant, I believe, to step back from the battle lines for a period of time, as you were talking about, Bob, to kind of regain perspective and strength, but then engage back into the battle.\u00a0 What\u2019s happened in America because of our me-ism in this culture, our narcissism, is unfortunately it\u2019s infected the church, so that people in the church think that somehow just because they work for 45 or 50 years or so, now they deserve time off, time out, and they can somehow slide to the finish line.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and think about it.\u00a0 The word \u201cretire\u201d we often use in a more casual sense meaning \u201cI\u2019m going up and going to sleep.\u201d\u00a0 And Kay, you already mentioned the fact that retirement in an earlier era was kind of preparing to die.\u00a0 But what you\u2019re saying is, in our generation today, you recalibrate, you don\u2019t retire.\u00a0 And you don\u2019t go off and prepare to die, you keep pouring out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right, and the thing is, our first half is really preparation \u2013 our job, our experiences are getting us primed to do what is really going to be of significance, once we\u2019re freed up to do it.\u00a0 That\u2019s what the second half can be for many people.\u00a0 Some people, a few people like you, are doing right now what is of real significance, but the majority of people don\u2019t feel that way.\u00a0 They are bringing in a paycheck.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo that\u2019s why so many people get to this point in their life and they think, \u201cOkay, I\u2019ve earned money.\u00a0 I\u2019ve paid the bills.\u00a0 I\u2019ve put my kids through school.\u00a0 But what have I done of real significance?\u00a0 So that\u2019s the recalibration \u2013 to use those skills that they\u2019ve prepared for.\u00a0 Now is payoff time.\u00a0 Now I\u2019m going to use them for real value.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just want to say something that I know you agree with, Kay.\u00a0 Those people that are earning a paycheck, raising a family, doing the eight-to-five, just the duty of raising the next generation of children \u2013 there is nothing more significant than doing that and doing that well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Fulfilling your covenant, your promise to your spouse, and also teaching your children about Jesus Christ and making a handoff of the spiritual baton, to know how to handle life in their generation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But we are talking about a time in people\u2019s lives when they do have more time to engage in activities.\u00a0 What I want to encourage people to do is to take a step back and think about Ephesians chapter two, verse ten, which says \u201cWe are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which he has prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe question is, \u201cWhat are God\u2019s good works for you?\u00a0 What does he have for you to do even as you\u2019re busy raising the next generation?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s a question that I think a lot of people will look at their life and, like you said, they go, \u201cOkay, I worked at a factory,\u201d or \u201cI worked at an office for all these years.\u00a0 I\u2019ve no idea.\u00a0 How do I know, how do I determine what\u2019s the thing I should be investing in?\u201d\u00a0 So somebody comes to you and says, \u201cKay, I\u2019ve worked in an office for 25 years.\u00a0 I\u2019ve got some time now, but all I\u2019m good at is working in an office.\u00a0 What do I do?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s a good question, and most often people come and say, \u201cThere\u2019s nothing of significance I can do because I only know how to work in an office.\u201d\u00a0 It was interesting because I was at a mission conference and there was a panel of recruiters from different mission groups.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne woman raised her hand.\u00a0 She said, \u201cI hate to even waste your time, because I don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything that I\u2019m able to do because I\u2019m a substitute teacher.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cI teach everything from Spanish to music,\u201d and she said, \u201cI\u2019m sure that you really can\u2019t use me any, but I just thought I would say, \u2018I would like to . . .\u2019\u201d Everybody pounced on her.\u00a0 \u201cWhat? What? What?\u00a0 You can do all those things!\u00a0 We could use you, we could use you.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cBut I\u2019m not real great at anything.\u00a0 I just know a little bit.\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cYou don\u2019t know how great it would be to have somebody as flexible and able to do an assortment of things as you.\u201d\u00a0 She had no idea how valuable her skills were.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, the thing that I would like to suggest:\u00a0 In doing this book I worked with an organization called Finisher\u2019s Project.\u00a0 I guess a good way to describe Finisher\u2019s Project is they are sort of like eHarmony.com for missions.\u00a0 They have developed a program where an individual can put in their own skills, interests, and so forth, and different organizations have put in their needs, and it matches them up.\u00a0 And you\u2019d be surprised.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went ahead and filled in what I had, and I was an elementary school teacher by training, I\u2019m a writer, -- I came out with 45 different possibilities, and they were all over the world, some in my back yard, some on the other side of the world.\u00a0 Very interesting, the opportunities that are there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFinisher\u2019s Project has more than 20,000 job possibilities waiting for people.\u00a0 There is everything from bricklayers to bakers to homemakers to physicians to anything you can imagine.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Of course you know what Dennis is going to say:\u00a0 \u201cYou don\u2019t need to go there.\u00a0 Just come to FamilyLifeToday.com and we\u2019ll get you hooked up right away.\u201d\u00a0 You can skip the middle man, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 And that\u2019s a very good possibility.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well not everybody is going to be passionate about marriage and family issues, and addressing what\u2019s happening in the family today in this culture.\u00a0 But some people are going to be passionate about that, and that\u2019s one of the things you talk about, is determining \u201cWhat am I passionate about?\u201d\u00a0 If you pound the table about marriage and family, then yes, Bob \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Come to FamilyLifeToday.com.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right, and we\u2019ll prayer goal and a vision of one million men and women, not necessarily joining an organization or joining anything, but who are just deployed in making a difference in marriages and families here in America and around the world by volunteering, by starting to lead a HomeBuilders Bible study, by doing eMentoring, which is an online mentoring training package that FamilyLife has, by doing <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em> video conference, a conference, Bob, that you created that can be hosted by a couple and brought to a community by them.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe point is, and back to what you talk about in your book, Kay, find out what you\u2019re passionate about and then match that passion with an organization that knows how to serve you and put the tools in your hands and the resources that you can use to make a difference.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, and the thing is, it also is important to know where your skills fit in.\u00a0 Some of your skills will fit in in places that you have no idea how they would ever be.\u00a0 Like you say, this sort of a situation where we\u2019re talking about marriages and families is so vital; not only in this country but around the world it\u2019s so vital.\u00a0 And sometimes our adventure goal \u2013 this is another important thing to know, what our goal is.\u00a0 Is it evangelistic?\u00a0 Is it family?\u00a0 Is it humanitarian?\u00a0 Because this will help us decide exactly what we want to do and where we want to go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was interested as I looked through your book at how many of the illustrations and examples that you used in the book had people getting on an airplane and going over a big body of water somewhere.\u00a0 This is a burden on your own heart, to give us a global focus for the work of Christ, isn\u2019t it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well it is, Bob.\u00a0 It is.\u00a0 We all have our passions, as Dennis was saying, and mine is to emphasize the importance of the global Body of Christ.\u00a0 That is not at all to diminish working at home, because there are many, many things we need to do at home, and more people are going to find their passion and their work at home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was thinking about folks who were going to say, \u201cWell, I\u2019d be interested in what you\u2019re talking about, but I don\u2019t want to move to Africa or China or to Asia.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got grandkids here.\u00a0 We want to stay close.\u201d\u00a0 And they don\u2019t necessarily have to move to those countries in order to get engaged.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 No, and even a lot of the illustrations that I used of people who do go to those places go for a short time.\u00a0 They only go for a couple of months, or six months.\u00a0 They don\u2019t move there.\u00a0 But, you\u2019re right.\u00a0 I do have a heart for pulling the global Body of Christ together and finding our part in it.\u00a0 I even listen with that perspective when I\u2019m hearing what you\u2019re saying, because I\u2019m thinking, \u201cOh, what you\u2019re offering is so valuable on a global scene.\u201d\u00a0 So we do listen with our own ears.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, family is an international language.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Of course.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve been saying that for 20 years.\u00a0 We have the opportunity around needs of marriage and family globally to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and explain to people who want to have healthy marriages and families who it is that truly does build homes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was on an airplane the other day coming back home and I sat down next to a guy and he said, \u201cWhat do you do?\u201d\u00a0 Actually it wasn\u2019t the guy I was sitting next to who asked me, it was the flight attendant.\u00a0 I said, \u201cWell, I work for the world\u2019s largest homebuilder.\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cWho might that be?\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cWell, I believe it was God that made marriage and family, and in Psalm 127:1 it says, \u2018Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd the flight attendant had just gotten married ten days ago, and so I had a chance to talk to her about the spiritual dimension of the marriage relationship, her relationship with God, and I offered to scholarship her to the <em>Weekend to Remember\u00ae <\/em>marriage getaway.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell the thing is, every person listening to this broadcast is interacting with people all day long at work, in the neighborhood, with their kids, going to events around raising children today, where they\u2019re talking to people who have needs around their marriage and family.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd I think, Kay, the Christian community has really wanted to do this.\u00a0 I think they\u2019ve longed to get on the battlefield; they just need the carrot cake, as you\u2019ve talked about, to invite them onto the field, but then a little training and a little help and some practical tools where they can do ministry, and then get out of their way, because they\u2019ll take it to a whole new level.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 And, not only do they do that, but they come back and say, \u201cThank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for showing me the path.\u00a0 Thank you for holding that carrot cake out in front of me, because when I saw how sweet it was, then I was ready to move.\u00a0 It was the scariness that caused me to wait, wait, wait.\u201d\u00a0 But it\u2019s not.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t have to be so scary.\u00a0 There are ways to move forward, like you\u2019re saying, get the training.\u00a0 Evaluate what you have to bring to the table as far as tools and abilities and training, and what you can and are willing to do.\u00a0 Do you want to go to another country?\u00a0 Do you want to stay here?\u00a0 Do you want to major on family and marriage?\u00a0 Is your heart in evangelism?\u00a0 Where is God calling you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Is there ice cream with the carrot cake?\u00a0 I\u2019m just wondering.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, sometimes there is, and sometimes there\u2019s a little bitterness with it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yeah, no kidding.\u00a0 We haven\u2019t talked much about that, but in any kind of ministry as you roll up your sleeves and get involved in people\u2019s lives \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 -- there is a sacrifice.\u00a0 I think one of the problems, honestly, about Christianity in America is our faith hasn\u2019t cost us much.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now there are some listening who say, \u201cHold on, Dennis.\u00a0 I\u2019m holding my hand up here.\u00a0 It\u2019s cost me plenty at work or in the neighborhood or with maybe some of our kids\u2019 friends\u2019 parents.\u201d\u00a0 Our faith can cost us something, but I think for far too many they\u2019ve not taken steps of faith that put them out there in a battlefield attempting to make a difference in people\u2019s lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tReally, if you think about what Christ commanded us in Matthew 28, he said \u201cAll authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me,\u201d and he has a very short word, \u201cGo.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cGo therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.\u00a0 And behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tChrist commanded us to go, and he promised he\u2019d be with us.\u00a0 We won\u2019t have all the answers, we won\u2019t know how to always fix every problem we face as we encounter other people and seek to minister to them, but he\u2019s with us, and he\u2019ll guide us in the process.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKay, I just want to say thanks to you for your heart for world missions, and your desire to connect these second-half folks, people who are looking at the rest of their lives and looking for a challenge, looking for an adventure, something that they can do that has eternal significance.\u00a0 I\u2019m grateful that you\u2019ve written this book and I hope that it will be used by God to move several tens of thousands of folks onto the battlefield.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, as I\u2019ve been reflecting on what you wrote, Kay, I\u2019ve been thinking about the church I\u2019m a part of.\u00a0 One of the things we keep saying to one another is that everybody \u2013 we should be able to walk up to anybody and say, \u201cWho\u2019s pouring into your life?\u201d and you should have an answer.\u00a0 You should be able to say, \u201cHere\u2019s what\u2019s pouring into me.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then we should be able to say, \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was hoping the second question would come.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cWho are you pouring into?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There you go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you should be able to answer that just as quickly.\u00a0 It\u2019s always a \u201cget poured into, pour back out\u201d \u2013 that\u2019s what we\u2019re here for, and that\u2019s what you\u2019re pointing people to in your book, <em>The Second-Half Adventure.<\/em>\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to be pouring out into other people\u2019s lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was thinking, too, about this idea of engaging in missions.\u00a0 There may be some folks listening who, for whatever reason, can\u2019t pick up and go, but Dennis, we heard a great story just recently from somebody who connected through our eMentoring, our online mentoring program.\u00a0 They got trained to do some online mentoring, I\u2019ve earned money.\u00a0 I\u2019ve paid the bills.\u00a0 I\u2019ve put my kids through school, but what have I done of real significance?\u00a0 That\u2019s the recalibration \u2013 to use those skills that they prepared for.\u00a0 Now is payoff time.\u00a0 Now I\u2019m going to use them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is <em>FamilyLifeToday<\/em> for Friday, February 4<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 Our host is the President of FamilyLife, Dennis Rainey, and I\u2019m Bob Lepine.\u00a0 Have you started making plans yet for how you will invest your life during payoff time?\u00a0 We\u2019ll talk about that today.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Thanks for joining us.\u00a0 You know, I\u2019m just doing the calculations here.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to be getting kind of close to retirement age, aren\u2019t you?\u00a0 I mean, you\u2019re getting \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Would you define the word \u201cretirement?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, there\u2019s kind of a general \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Are you wanting to take over?\u00a0 I\u2019m kind of wondering what\u2019s going on here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s kind of \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, no!\u00a0 They\u2019re at the door!\u00a0 I\u2019m out of here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Everybody\u2019s always \u2013 Isn\u2019t 65 when you\u2019re supposed to get your gold watch and head home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, that used to be.\u00a0 I mean, given the energy, the vision and frankly, where I am, looking at the needs of marriages and families, I hate to sound rash here, but I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll ever retire in the true, classic sense of that word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s interesting you mention that, because I was thinking of a couple I know, both of them in their 80s, and I was talking to them about the fact that you get into your 80s and you do start to slow down a little bit.\u00a0 Your body doesn\u2019t work the way it used to and your energy is not quite what it was. I said, \u201cSo, what do you guys do?\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cWe\u2019ve got the coolest thing we do.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got an intercessory prayer ministry that we do together as a couple.\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cFor years we talked about how we wished we had more time to pray for stuff.\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cNow we\u2019ve got the time.\u00a0 We get up.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got our list.\u00a0 We go to work and we just pray for folks who we\u2019ve never been able to pray for before.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s the exact kind of vision for life that the Christian community needs to embrace, proclaim and promote.\u00a0 I mean, we shouldn\u2019t see a bunch of Christians rusting out at the end of their lives; they need to wear out as they run to the finish line.\u00a0 We have a guest with us on our broadcast today \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 -- who you want to bake a carrot cake \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 To dangle the carrot cake \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 --to dangle the carrot cake out there to motivate people to invest their lives.\u00a0 That\u2019s why you\u2019ve written this book, <em>The Second-Half Adventure.<\/em><em>\u00a0 <\/em>You speak on this all over the country.\u00a0 In fact, you mentioned to me right before we came in here that you\u2019re having people come up, they\u2019re coming up to you and they\u2019re going, \u201cYou know, that\u2019s me that you wrote about in there.\u00a0 There <em>is<\/em> a place for me.\u201d\u00a0 Is that a question people have today?\u00a0 They wonder if there is a place for them.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s a question they have, and many times they aren\u2019t asking.\u00a0 They don\u2019t know to ask it.\u00a0 But when an answer is offered them, they say, \u201cYes.\u00a0 That\u2019s what I want.\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly what I want.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the couples that I talked to that decided to sell their business, go into ministry, they built into their plan one year with an RV to travel around the country, visit friends, visit family, relax and vacation, for one year.\u00a0 And they said, \u201cThat was too long.\u00a0 It was too long for us, and too long for our friends.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, even the word \u201cretirement\u201d comes from the word \u201cretire,\u201d that\u2019s a military term.\u00a0 And it actually meant, I believe, to step back from the battle lines for a period of time, as you were talking about, Bob, to kind of regain perspective and strength, but then engage back into the battle.\u00a0 What\u2019s happened in America because of our me-ism in this culture, our narcissism, is unfortunately it\u2019s infected the church, so that people in the church think that somehow just because they work for 45 or 50 years or so, now they deserve time off, time out, and they can somehow slide to the finish line.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, and think about it.\u00a0 The word \u201cretire\u201d we often use in a more casual sense meaning \u201cI\u2019m going up and going to sleep.\u201d\u00a0 And Kay, you already mentioned the fact that retirement in an earlier era was kind of preparing to die.\u00a0 But what you\u2019re saying is, in our generation today, you recalibrate, you don\u2019t retire.\u00a0 And you don\u2019t go off and prepare to die, you keep pouring out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right, and the thing is, our first half is really preparation \u2013 our job, our experiences are getting us primed to do what is really going to be of significance, once we\u2019re freed up to do it.\u00a0 That\u2019s what the second half can be for many people.\u00a0 Some people, a few people like you, are doing right now what is of real significance, but the majority of people don\u2019t feel that way.\u00a0 They are bringing in a paycheck.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo that\u2019s why so many people get to this point in their life and they think, \u201cOkay, I\u2019ve earned money.\u00a0 I\u2019ve paid the bills.\u00a0 I\u2019ve put my kids through school.\u00a0 But what have I done of real significance?\u00a0 So that\u2019s the recalibration \u2013 to use those skills that they\u2019ve prepared for.\u00a0 Now is payoff time.\u00a0 Now I\u2019m going to use them for real value.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I just want to say something that I know you agree with, Kay.\u00a0 Those people that are earning a paycheck, raising a family, doing the eight-to-five, just the duty of raising the next generation of children \u2013 there is nothing more significant than doing that and doing that well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Fulfilling your covenant, your promise to your spouse, and also teaching your children about Jesus Christ and making a handoff of the spiritual baton, to know how to handle life in their generation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But we are talking about a time in people\u2019s lives when they do have more time to engage in activities.\u00a0 What I want to encourage people to do is to take a step back and think about Ephesians chapter two, verse ten, which says \u201cWe are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which he has prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe question is, \u201cWhat are God\u2019s good works for you?\u00a0 What does he have for you to do even as you\u2019re busy raising the next generation?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s a question that I think a lot of people will look at their life and, like you said, they go, \u201cOkay, I worked at a factory,\u201d or \u201cI worked at an office for all these years.\u00a0 I\u2019ve no idea.\u00a0 How do I know, how do I determine what\u2019s the thing I should be investing in?\u201d\u00a0 So somebody comes to you and says, \u201cKay, I\u2019ve worked in an office for 25 years.\u00a0 I\u2019ve got some time now, but all I\u2019m good at is working in an office.\u00a0 What do I do?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s a good question, and most often people come and say, \u201cThere\u2019s nothing of significance I can do because I only know how to work in an office.\u201d\u00a0 It was interesting because I was at a mission conference and there was a panel of recruiters from different mission groups.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne woman raised her hand.\u00a0 She said, \u201cI hate to even waste your time, because I don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything that I\u2019m able to do because I\u2019m a substitute teacher.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cI teach everything from Spanish to music,\u201d and she said, \u201cI\u2019m sure that you really can\u2019t use me any, but I just thought I would say, \u2018I would like to . . .\u2019\u201d Everybody pounced on her.\u00a0 \u201cWhat? What? What?\u00a0 You can do all those things!\u00a0 We could use you, we could use you.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cBut I\u2019m not real great at anything.\u00a0 I just know a little bit.\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cYou don\u2019t know how great it would be to have somebody as flexible and able to do an assortment of things as you.\u201d\u00a0 She had no idea how valuable her skills were.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, the thing that I would like to suggest:\u00a0 In doing this book I worked with an organization called Finisher\u2019s Project.\u00a0 I guess a good way to describe Finisher\u2019s Project is they are sort of like eHarmony.com for missions.\u00a0 They have developed a program where an individual can put in their own skills, interests, and so forth, and different organizations have put in their needs, and it matches them up.\u00a0 And you\u2019d be surprised.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went ahead and filled in what I had, and I was an elementary school teacher by training, I\u2019m a writer, -- I came out with 45 different possibilities, and they were all over the world, some in my back yard, some on the other side of the world.\u00a0 Very interesting, the opportunities that are there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFinisher\u2019s Project has more than 20,000 job possibilities waiting for people.\u00a0 There is everything from bricklayers to bakers to homemakers to physicians to anything you can imagine.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Of course you know what Dennis is going to say:\u00a0 \u201cYou don\u2019t need to go there.\u00a0 Just come to FamilyLifeToday.com and we\u2019ll get you hooked up right away.\u201d\u00a0 You can skip the middle man, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 And that\u2019s a very good possibility.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well not everybody is going to be passionate about marriage and family issues, and addressing what\u2019s happening in the family today in this culture.\u00a0 But some people are going to be passionate about that, and that\u2019s one of the things you talk about, is determining \u201cWhat am I passionate about?\u201d\u00a0 If you pound the table about marriage and family, then yes, Bob \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Come to FamilyLifeToday.com.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right, and we\u2019ll show you \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Uncle Dennis wants you.\u00a0 We need a poster of you with the hat and the whole thing \u2013 Uncle Dennis wants you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, we don\u2019t want that, but we do want to deploy --\u00a0 In fact, I have a prayer goal and a vision of one million men and women, not necessarily joining an organization or joining anything, but who are just deployed in making a difference in marriages and families here in America and around the world by volunteering, by starting to lead a HomeBuilders Bible study, by doing eMentoring, which is an online mentoring training package that FamilyLife has, by doing <em>The Art of Marriage<\/em> video conference, a conference, Bob, that you created that can be hosted by a couple and brought to a community by them.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe point is, and back to what you talk about in your book, Kay, find out what you\u2019re passionate about and then match that passion with an organization that knows how to serve you and put the tools in your hands and the resources that you can use to make a difference.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, and the thing is, it also is important to know where your skills fit in.\u00a0 Some of your skills will fit in in places that you have no idea how they would ever be.\u00a0 Like you say, this sort of a situation where we\u2019re talking about marriages and families is so vital; not only in this country but around the world it\u2019s so vital.\u00a0 And sometimes our adventure goal \u2013 this is another important thing to know, what our goal is.\u00a0 Is it evangelistic?\u00a0 Is it family?\u00a0 Is it humanitarian?\u00a0 Because this will help us decide exactly what we want to do and where we want to go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was interested as I looked through your book at how many of the illustrations and examples that you used in the book had people getting on an airplane and going over a big body of water somewhere.\u00a0 This is a burden on your own heart, to give us a global focus for the work of Christ, isn\u2019t it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well it is, Bob.\u00a0 It is.\u00a0 We all have our passions, as Dennis was saying, and mine is to emphasize the importance of the global Body of Christ.\u00a0 That is not at all to diminish working at home, because there are many, many things we need to do at home, and more people are going to find their passion and their work at home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was thinking about folks who were going to say, \u201cWell, I\u2019d be interested in what you\u2019re talking about, but I don\u2019t want to move to Africa or China or to Asia.\u00a0 We\u2019ve got grandkids here.\u00a0 We want to stay close.\u201d\u00a0 And they don\u2019t necessarily have to move to those countries in order to get engaged.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 No.\u00a0 No, and even a lot of the illustrations that I used of people who do go to those places go for a short time.\u00a0 They only go for a couple of months, or six months.\u00a0 They don\u2019t move there.\u00a0 But, you\u2019re right.\u00a0 I do have a heart for pulling the global Body of Christ together and finding our part in it.\u00a0 I even listen with that perspective when I\u2019m hearing what you\u2019re saying, because I\u2019m thinking, \u201cOh, what you\u2019re offering is so valuable on a global scene.\u201d\u00a0 So we do listen with our own ears.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, family is an international language.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Of course.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve been saying that for 20 years.\u00a0 We have the opportunity around needs of marriage and family globally to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and explain to people who want to have healthy marriages and families who it is that truly does build homes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was on an airplane the other day coming back home and I sat down next to a guy and he said, \u201cWhat do you do?\u201d\u00a0 Actually it wasn\u2019t the guy I was sitting next to who asked me, it was the flight attendant.\u00a0 I said, \u201cWell, I work for the world\u2019s largest homebuilder.\u201d\u00a0 They said, \u201cWho might that be?\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cWell, I believe it was God that made marriage and family, and in Psalm 127:1 it says, \u2018Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.\u2019\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd the flight attendant had just gotten married ten days ago, and so I had a chance to talk to her about the spiritual dimension of the marriage relationship, her relationship with God, and I offered to scholarship her to the <em>Weekend to Remember\u00ae <\/em>marriage getaway.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell the thing is, every person listening to this broadcast is interacting with people all day long at work, in the neighborhood, with their kids, going to events around raising children today, where they\u2019re talking to people who have needs around their marriage and family.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd I think, Kay, the Christian community has really wanted to do this.\u00a0 I think they\u2019ve longed to get on the battlefield; they just need the carrot cake, as you\u2019ve talked about, to invite them onto the field, but then a little training and a little help and some practical tools where they can do ministry, and then get out of their way, because they\u2019ll take it to a whole new level.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 And, not only do they do that, but they come back and say, \u201cThank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for showing me the path.\u00a0 Thank you for holding that carrot cake out in front of me, because when I saw how sweet it was, then I was ready to move.\u00a0 It was the scariness that caused me to wait, wait, wait.\u201d\u00a0 But it\u2019s not.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t have to be so scary.\u00a0 There are ways to move forward, like you\u2019re saying, get the training.\u00a0 Evaluate what you have to bring to the table as far as tools and abilities and training, and what you can and are willing to do.\u00a0 Do you want to go to another country?\u00a0 Do you want to stay here?\u00a0 Do you want to major on family and marriage?\u00a0 Is your heart in evangelism?\u00a0 Where is God calling you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Is there ice cream with the carrot cake?\u00a0 I\u2019m just wondering.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, sometimes there is, and sometimes there\u2019s a little bitterness with it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yeah, no kidding.\u00a0 We haven\u2019t talked much about that, but in any kind of ministry as you roll up your sleeves and get involved in people\u2019s lives \u2013\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 -- there is a sacrifice.\u00a0 I think one of the problems, honestly, about Christianity in America is our faith hasn\u2019t cost us much.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now there are some listening who say, \u201cHold on, Dennis.\u00a0 I\u2019m holding my hand up here.\u00a0 It\u2019s cost me plenty at work or in the neighborhood or with maybe some of our kids\u2019 friends\u2019 parents.\u201d\u00a0 Our faith can cost us something, but I think for far too many they\u2019ve not taken steps of faith that put them out there in a battlefield attempting to make a difference in people\u2019s lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tReally, if you think about what Christ commanded us in Matthew 28, he said \u201cAll authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me,\u201d and he has a very short word, \u201cGo.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cGo therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.\u00a0 And behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tChrist commanded us to go, and he promised he\u2019d be with us.\u00a0 We won\u2019t have all the answers, we won\u2019t know how to always fix every problem we face as we encounter other people and seek to minister to them, but he\u2019s with us, and he\u2019ll guide us in the process.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKay, I just want to say thanks to you for your heart for world missions, and your desire to connect these second-half folks, people who are looking at the rest of their lives and looking for a challenge, looking for an adventure, something that they can do that has eternal significance.\u00a0 I\u2019m grateful that you\u2019ve written this book and I hope that it will be used by God to move several tens of thousands of folks onto the battlefield.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kay:<\/strong>\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, as I\u2019ve been reflecting on what you wrote, Kay, I\u2019ve been thinking about the church I\u2019m a part of.\u00a0 One of the things we keep saying to one another is that everybody \u2013 we should be able to walk up to anybody and say, \u201cWho\u2019s pouring into your life?\u201d and you should have an answer.\u00a0 You should be able to say, \u201cHere\u2019s what\u2019s pouring into me.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then we should be able to say, \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was hoping the second question would come.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cWho are you pouring into?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There you go.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you should be able to answer that just as quickly.\u00a0 It\u2019s always a \u201cget poured into, pour back out\u201d \u2013 that\u2019s what we\u2019re here for, and that\u2019s what you\u2019re pointing people to in your book, <em>The Second-Half Adventure.<\/em>\u00a0 You\u2019ve got to be pouring out into other people\u2019s lives.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was thinking, too, about this idea of engaging in missions.\u00a0 There may be some folks listening who, for whatever reason, can\u2019t
