Thanks for joining us on the Monday edition.\u00a0 I\u2019ll tell you what \u2013 we are so brave that we have decided today to take on a very controversial subject by getting out of here and letting a woman tackle it\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I wish our listeners could see Bob and me right now.\u00a0 Both of us are dressed in\u2026well, we have the head gear of a catcher on, we have the chest protector and the shin guards.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve got my camo on underneath that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We are ready to stand strong and stand firm as we pass the ball to a woman well known to many of our listeners.\u00a0 In fact, she\u2019s written a book called <em>Liberated Through Submission<\/em>.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s the word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s the word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s the word.\u00a0 Bunny Wilson join us on the broadcast.\u00a0 Bunny and her husband, Frank, have been married for more than 20 years.\u00a0 Frank is known by many as a well-known song writer and record producer.\u00a0 They have two daughters and Bunny spoke at our Building Strong Families in Your Church conference, and spoke about the subject of submission.\u00a0 This is a really hot topic.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tand truthfully I felt like she was the one to speak on the subject of submission to the men and women who attended, because this is a really hot topic.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is, and obviously it\u2019s one that\u2019s created controversy in the news and in churches all across the country, primarily, we believe, because it\u2019s a misunderstood concept.\u00a0 I believe that as folks come face to face with what God\u2019s word is saying about submission, and if they don\u2019t go to the extreme side of thinking it means that you\u2019re a door mat, or if they don\u2019t run out the door altogether and say, \u201cI\u2019m not going to have anything to do with that.\u201d\u00a0 They find a beautiful, glorious truth of scripture when they come to this subject. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Actually, I\u2019d like to say it like this.\u00a0 The \u201cS\u201d word, submission, is really the \u201cL\u201d word, L meaning life.\u00a0 If you want to find life, where does the scripture tell you you have to go?\u00a0 You have to become as a little child, you have to humble yourself, and you have to submit to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, let\u2019s listen together as Bunny Wilson talks about being liberated through submission.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 When I came to Christ, Christianity, I came from being an atheist.\u00a0 An atheist is a person that does not believe in the existence of God.\u00a0 So when I finally came to meet Jesus Christ and I fell in love with Jesus, I fell in love with his word, and so I started reading it and eating it and eating it and eating it.\u00a0 Then one day I ran across a scripture that said, \u201cWives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands as unto to the Lord,\u201d and my first thought was, \u201cWhy would God mess up a good book with a scripture like that?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI had never heard of anything so oppressive in my life, but I said, \u201cOkay, okay, okay, it\u2019s in your word and Jesus, you said, I must deny myself, pick up my cross and follow you, so I\u2019ll do this,\u201d and I dove head-long into the act of submission for six years. See, I wouldn\u2019t have known submission if it would have walked up to me on the street and slapped me in the face, because I didn\u2019t see it when I was growing up.\u00a0 But I had seen \u201cLeave It To Beaver,\u201d and \u201cMake Room For Daddy,\u201d and I kind of figured out what it was supposed to look like.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSix years later I\u2019m standing in front of a bridal shop window with my six-year-old daughter, Lani, and I said to her\u2026we\u2019re looking at this wedding dress, and I said, \u201cJust think, Lani, one day you\u2019ll walk down the aisle wearing a beautiful dress like this.\u201d\u00a0 And she looked at me and she said, \u201cI\u2019m never getting married.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cYou\u2019re what?\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cWhy not?\u201d\u00a0 And she said, because Daddy tells you everything to do, you don\u2019t like it, and I won\u2019t either.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went home and I fell on my face before God and I said, \u201cGod, this submission thing is not working. My daughter is never going to get married, I\u2019m never going to have grandchildren just because I\u2019m trying to be submissive.\u00a0 Now, I\u2019ll do this thing, but you have to explain to me how Jesus came that I might have life and have it more abundantly and be submissive.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m so grateful for the scripture that says that if you ask, what\u2019ll happen?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 You shall receive.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right, and if you knock, it\u2019ll be answered, and if you seek, you will find.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t long after that that God explained to me that submission is a very positive, powerful, and aggressive principle that\u2019s been designed by God for every man.\u00a0 Say every man.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Every man.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 Every woman\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Every woman.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Single and married.\u00a0 Why is submission a positive principle?\u00a0 Is Jesus Christ our role model?\u00a0 You can say amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 Are we supposed to be walking in his footsteps?\u00a0 When Jesus Christ walked the face of the earth he was male and single, but he lived a totally submitted life.\u00a0 He said, \u201cI always do that which pleases the Father.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s what makes it a positive principle.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt is a powerful principle because in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus Christ prayed three times in his humanity\u2026 \u201cFather, let this bitter cup pass from me.\u201d\u00a0 If we were to put it in today\u2019s vernacular he would be saying something in the order of \u201cI don\u2019t want to do it.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to do it.\u00a0\u00a0 Is there a plan B?\u00a0 Is there another way to get these people saved?\u00a0 This thing is going to hurt.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn his humanity, Jesus did not want to die on the cross, but the scripture goes on to say, \u201cBut nevertheless, not my will, but thy will be done.\u201d\u00a0 If Jesus had not submitted to death on the cross none of us today would have eternal life.\u00a0 So if we believe that salvation is God\u2019s number one greatest gift, we have to believe that submission is number two because it ushered in our salvation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd it\u2019s positive, it\u2019s powerful, and it\u2019s aggressive.\u00a0 It\u2019s aggressive because we\u2019re going to have to stand against the world, the flesh and the devil that\u2019s attempting to force feed us with the definition that says we\u2019ll be subservient and inferior and someone\u2019s door mat, and nothing could be further from the truth.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I have a question to ask you.\u00a0 If submission is so powerful, positive, and aggressive and it\u2019s throughout the entire word as far as what our attitude is supposed to be and it\u2019s for every man and every woman single and married why is it when I tell a married man, when I tell him I\u2019ve written a book called <em>Liberated Through Submission<\/em>, he usually says I\u2019d like to buy that book for my\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 Why is it when I say it to a single woman a single woman will many times say \u201cI don\u2019t know if I can get married because I don\u2019t know if I can \u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Submit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 What she is really saying is that she believes that submission begins at the altar.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never heard a single man say to me I don\u2019t know if I can get married because I don\u2019t know if I could submit to God\u2019s word in the leadership of my family.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t even cross his mind? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo my next question to you is how could a principle so powerful, positive and aggressive become so distorted?\u00a0 Who do you think would want to distort the principle that ushered in our salvation?\u00a0 Does he have a name?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Satan.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 His name is Satan, and you know what?\u00a0 I don\u2019t like Satan and he doesn\u2019t like me, and it\u2019s a good thing.\u00a0 But I have to take my hat off the Satan because he has done a tremendous job.\u00a0 We are in the year 2000, and I cannot even \u2018em on the back just to get it out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is the year 2000.\u00a0 It was 2000 years ago that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave for our sins and today it is one of the most controversial subjects in the word of God.\u00a0 How did Satan do it?\u00a0 Well, he does it like he always does it.\u00a0 He divides and he conquers.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo what is the definition of submission?\u00a0 It means what Webster\u2019s dictionary says it means.\u00a0 It means to yield.\u00a0 Biblically, it means to yield to people, precepts, and principles that have been placed in our lives by God as authority.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen the southern Baptists announced that wives must submit to their husbands a lot of radio and television stations wanted to do interviews.\u00a0 Since I had written a book on submission they wanted to interview me and I started getting calls.\u00a0 I was invited to do a station that was a lot like Howard Stern radio station.\u00a0\u00a0 I was excited about doing the interview because even though a lot of people listening to the station didn\u2019t agree with what the Bible said it was just a great harvest or field of people that I could talk to.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo he called me up and said, \u201cwe\u2019ve been advertising this show for a week and the people are champing at the bit to get to you.\u201d\u00a0 It was a live call in radio show.\u00a0 As soon as he said that he pushed the button and the music came up.\u00a0 I\u2019ll call him Bob but that wasn\u2019t his real name.\u00a0 The first thing Bob said was, \u201cwe have Bunny Wilson here today and Bunny you\u2019ve come on the air today to tell these wives that they must submit is that why you are on the air today?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cWell no, actually Bob I came on the air today to tell them that you are a submitted man.\u00a0 And he said \u201chow do you figure that?\u201d\u00a0 I said \u201cdo you own that radio station?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cno I don\u2019t.\u201d I said, \u201cDo you have a general manager?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cYes, I do and it\u2019s a woman.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cThat\u2019s even better.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 (laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 I said, \u201cDo you always agree with the programming of the program manager?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cWell of course not.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cWell, the very fact that you are doing the interview today tells me that you are a submitted man.\u201d\u00a0 We went on to talk and he started laughing.\u00a0 He said, \u201cWell, I guess you have a point there.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe talked about what the definition of submission was and then he said let\u2019s open up the phone lines.\u00a0 The first lady to call in screamed in the phone and said, \u201cWell, Bunny Bimbo.\u00a0 We ought take your book and burn it in a fire.\u201d\u00a0 I said to her, \u201cI\u2019m not going to call you by a derogatory name because I don\u2019t know you and you don\u2019t know me.\u00a0 If you knew me you\u2019d know I wasn\u2019t a bimbo and if you\u2019d read my book it would be at the top of a bookshelf not burning in a fire.\u00a0 Let me ask you a question.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Laughter\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you know that atheists are submitted women?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe said, \u201cwhat are you talking about?\u201d\u00a0 I said, Okay let me explain to you.\u00a0 Feminists women are submitted.\u00a0 Feminists have organizations.\u00a0 They have a president, vice president, directors and field representatives.\u00a0 When they meet in their board rooms do you think they always agree about the direction of their feminist movement?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOf course you know they don\u2019t because they are outspoken, opinionated women.\u00a0 When they go in that board room they know that no matter what they discuss the president has the right to make the final decision.\u00a0 They know that before they leave that room they must graciously submit because a house divided against itself cannot stand.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe question is never are you submitted.\u00a0 The only question is who and what are you submitted to?\u00a0 But we all yield to something and when you are a Christian woman you are submitted and yielded, or should be, to God\u2019s flow chart, so who are we called to yield to?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re called to yield or submit to God, James 4 and 7, \u201cSubmit yourself, therefore, unto God.\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019re called to submit to the government, 1 Peter 2 and 13, we\u2019re called to submit to our employers, 1 Peter 2 and 18, we\u2019re called to submit to our pastors, Hebrews 13, 17, so whether you\u2019re male or female, single or married, you are called to submit to God, to the government, to your employer, and to your pastor.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow keep in mind submission never has anything to do with immorality or abuse.\u00a0 In other words, a person\u2026your boss cannot ask you to sign false documents.\u00a0 Your husband cannot ask you to sign a false tax return and you have to.\u00a0 You do not have to submit to anything abusive or immoral.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, if you are married, the husband is called to submit to four times as many things as the wife.\u00a0 He is called to submit to God in loving his wife as Christ loved the church, to being the final decision maker, the spiritual leader, and to living with her according to understanding.\u00a0 And trust me, he has to be submitted to God in order to pull all of that off.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe wife is called to submit to her husband\u2019s final decision.\u00a0 It is not conditional.\u00a0 A wife cannot say, \u201cI don\u2019t have to submit to your final authority if you don\u2019t love me as Christ loved the church.\u201d\u00a0 God\u2019s word is not conditional.\u00a0 You yield to your husband\u2019s final decision because that\u2019s what God\u2019s word teaches and that is the flow chart, and you\u2019ll learn how the power is released in that when you do that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSubmission is like a broken traffic signal.\u00a0 When you learned how to drive, you learned in the rule book that if you come to a four-way intersection and the traffic signal is broken, what are you supposed to do?\u00a0 You\u2019re supposed to stop and then you are supposed to yield to the person on the right and go two by two until the traffic signal is fixed.\u00a0 As a matter of fact, I\u2019ve come to busy four-way intersections and have gotten through the intersection faster because the traffic signal was broken than if it would have stayed up, because they\u2019ve got so many turns and so many lights.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow what do you think would happen if that rule had never been written into our driver\u2019s book?\u00a0 In other words, that rule was not in place.\u00a0 What do you think would happen at intersections\u2026four-way intersections\u2026where the traffic signal was out, and there were no rules?\u00a0 What do you think would be happening in the intersections of our streets?\u00a0 Chaos, confusion, accidents, arguments.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou have to ask yourself why do we even need submission? When we get to heaven there will be no giving in marriage, we\u2019ll have the mind of Christ.\u00a0 So why is it even established on the earth?\u00a0 There was a pastor that said, \u201cGod sees the view, we see a speck of it, that\u2019s why it\u2019s called our point of view.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFrom my point of view it\u2019s clear to me that God created some free-thinking individuals, where the Bible says every man\u2019s way is right in his own eyes, which means if we spent any amount of time together, in our churches, on our jobs, in our homes, sooner or later the signal of our communication is going to go down.\u00a0 There\u2019s going to come a time when we simply do not agree with one another.\u00a0 If an order has not been established in our lives, we will be in the intersection of our lives, on our jobs, churches, home, with chaos, confusion, arguments, contention.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt is so amazing to me the number of Christian couples who don\u2019t understand this principle and you follow them home\u2026yes, they love the Lord, yes, they read the scriptures, yes, they pay their tithes, but if you were to follow them home, there is so much argument and divisiveness and contention in their marriage relationship.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because a judge once said, \u201cthe ignorance of the law does not excuse you from the penalty of the law.\u201d\u00a0 Just because you don\u2019t understand how it works doesn\u2019t mean that you don\u2019t have to suffer the consequences.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo what does submission look like?\u00a0 Well, let\u2019s take a single person as an example, because we usually always use married people.\u00a0 But let\u2019s use a single person.\u00a0 A single person\u2026it\u2019s April 15th \u2026wakes up, finishes filling out their tax form, hates to pay taxes, but in submission to the government writes the check and puts it in there\u2026his suit pocket\u2026let\u2019s say it\u2019s a man.\u00a0 He gets in the car, and in submission to the government he fastens his seat belt, although he hates to fasten his seat belt, it wrinkles his suit, but in submission to the government he does that.\u00a0 On the way to work he pulls his speed limit down to the flow of traffic or to the speed limit in submission to the government.\u00a0 He gets to his job, he goes in his boss\u2019s office.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHer name is Sally.\u00a0 He says, \u201cSally, have you thought about we discussed?\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cI have but I\u2019d like for you to do it my way.\u201d\u00a0 According to the word of God, he yields to the final decision of his employer, he goes to church that night, his weekly Bible study.\u00a0 He\u2019s just gotten paid, he can think of so much he could do with that 10 percent that belongs to God, but in submission to God\u2019s word and submission to God, he pays his tithes, goes to see the pastor after church and says, \u201cPastor, have you thought about what we talked about?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe pastor says, \u201cYes, I prayed about it.\u00a0 I think we need to do it the way I said.\u201d\u00a0 And on one given day this single man has submitted to God, to the government, to his pastor, and to his employer.\u00a0 We do it all the time.\u00a0 We just don\u2019t identify it by the right word, which is submission.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow does it work in my married life?\u00a0 Well, submission is not an ominous, oppressive force that hangs over my marriage relationship with Frank.\u00a0 As a matter of fact, we can go for days, sometimes even weeks, just giving and exchanging ideas and opinions, but every now and then we come to a place where we simply do not agree.\u00a0 It is at that point that I am able to tell him why I don\u2019t agree with him.\u00a0 As a matter of fact, I can even be very definite.\u00a0 The Bible says, \u201cBe angry and sin not.\u201d\u00a0 But if I get to a place that I want to stop talking about his family, slamming doors, silent treatment, playing possum...you know what playing possum is, don\u2019t you ladies?\u00a0 That\u2019s when you go to bed and act like you\u2019re asleep?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Laughter\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 But when you get to that point you\u2019re in a place where you\u2019re about to sin, and just like that broken traffic signal I have to stop.\u00a0 Now, does that mean that Frank just gets to walk all over me, I\u2019m just a door mat.\u00a0 I just have to go along with all he says?\u00a0 No, I stop because if I don\u2019t stop I run into Philippians 2:14-15, which is going to give me a ticket if I don\u2019t stop.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPhilippians 2:14-15 says, \u201cDo all things without murmuring or complaining.\u201d\u00a0 Do all things\u2026how much is all?\u00a0 Some of the scriptures say do everything.\u00a0 Do everything without murmuring or complaining.\u00a0 Some of your Bibles says arguing or disputing.\u00a0 In the life of a believer there should never be a murmur, a complaint, an argument, or a dispute, according to Philippians 2:14.\u00a0 Do everything without murmuring and complaining, arguing and disputing.\u00a0 And it goes on in verse 15 to tell you why.\u00a0 It says so that you may be blameless and harmless children of God which shines as a light as you uphold the word of God, as you shine into this crooked and perverse generation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod is saying it is the world.\u00a0 It is in the intersections of life\u2026murmuring and complaining, arguing and disputing, and they ought to be able to look up and see us standing on the sidelines.\u00a0 They know we have challenges and problems in our lives, but we don\u2019t have that kind of spirit because we don\u2019t have to have it.\u00a0 Why do I have to defend myself if God is my defense?\u00a0 Why should I complain and murmur when God opens doors that no man can shut, and shuts doors that no man can open?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe\u2019s my stronghold, he\u2019s my refuge, he\u2019s my strength.\u00a0 Trust in the Lord with all of your heart.\u00a0 Trust in the Lord with all of your heart.\u00a0 That\u2019s where you make your decisions.\u00a0 And lean not to your own understanding.\u00a0 A murmuring spirit comes from you trying to figure out why things are happening the way they\u2026we don\u2019t lean to our understanding.\u00a0 We acknowledge Him in all of Thy ways and He shall direct our steps.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe reason that submission is such a powerful principle is because it operates on pure faith.\u00a0 It says, \u201cI believe that God sees all, hears all, knows all, and He will intervene on my behalf.\u201d\u00a0 And how powerful is that?\u00a0 I mean, the Bible could have said Jesus Christ died on the cross and if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, thou shall be saved and you shall go to heaven, The End.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s the way the Bible could have ended.\u00a0 I mean, God could have said, \u201cYou\u2019re down here on earth, I\u2019m not going to get involved with earthly affairs.\u00a0 There\u2019s demons and devils and imps and all kinds of hatred and cruelties on the earth, but you\u2019ll just have to deal with it, but when you die I\u2019ll accept you into heaven and that\u2019ll be your rest.\u201d\u00a0 He could have done that.\u00a0 He said, \u201cBut, lo, I am with you always, even into the ends of the earth.\u201d\u00a0 He said that if you tell me everything, if you commit all of your ways to me, I will direct your steps.\u00a0 I care about every single thing that is involved in your life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat kind of God do we have that would serve us to that kind of capacity?\u00a0 That not only would He die on the cross for our sins, but He would be willing to intervene in our affairs?\u00a0 Submission means God intervenes, and when we have the faith to do it right and get out of God\u2019s way, God has a clear shot at fixing whatever needs to be fixed.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo when Frank and I don\u2019t agree, if I get to a point where I\u2019m about to sin, argue, contend, murmur, complain, have an attitude.\u00a0 I have to stop because I don\u2019t want Philippians 2:14 to write me a ticket, because for a long time I was getting tickets, I didn\u2019t know where to pay the tickets and they turned into warrants.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know where to pay the warrants and they threw me in jail and I was imprisoned by my own stubbornness, contention, rebellion, and anger.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut, thank God, God made a way for me to escape.\u00a0 So do I just stop and then don\u2019t say anything?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 Remember I told you submission is aggressive.\u00a0 God wants us to speak, but He wants us to speak the truth in love.\u00a0 Now, what is God\u2019s love?\u00a0 What kind of love is God\u2019s love?\u00a0 Agape love, unconditional love, which means you go with no strings attached and, ladies, you tell him the truth.\u00a0 The Bible says the heart studies to answer, so when you go and talk to him you go to him and you speak to him in the right spirit.\u00a0 You go to him and you speak to him, having thought it through.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s Bunny Wilson talking about submission and how it liberates us.\u00a0 I\u2019ll tell you what, Dennis, I love hearing women like Bunny speak on this subject, because you listen to them and, you know, this is a woman who does not easily submit.\u00a0 She\u2019s a strong woman.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yeah, you can tell there\u2019s some\u2026there\u2019s some fire in those eyes.\u00a0 I\u2019ve met Bunny and she\u2019s not a door mat.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But when it comes to obedience to God\u2019s word, that\u2019s when you have to step up and say, \u201cyou know what?\u00a0 Even if it goes against the grain of who I am, I\u2019ve got to submit.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, when you come to this subject of submission, I always think back to 1 Peter\u2026no, not chapter 3\u2026that\u2019s where a lot of people go, but I go to chapter 2 in a little section that reads like this:\u00a0 \u201cWhen they hurled their insults at him\u201d\u2026speaking of Jesus\u2026\u201che did not retaliate.\u00a0 When he suffered he made no threats.\u00a0 Instead, he entrusted himself.\u201d\u00a0 Another way of saying that would be He submitted himself.\u00a0 Jesus Christ gave himself to him who judges righteously.\u00a0 He, himself, bore our sins in his body on the tree so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness.\u00a0 By his wounds, you have been healed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s interesting that through Christ\u2019s submission. We find life.\u00a0 We find healing.\u00a0 We find wholeness.\u00a0 The flesh doesn\u2019t like to submit, whether you\u2019re a man or a woman, and it\u2019s not just the woman who\u2019s called to submit.\u00a0 Yes, she\u2019s called to submit to her husband, but both the husband and the wife are both called to submit to Jesus Christ and to the truth of scripture.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd, Bob, therein lies the real rub, I think, when you come to this word called submission.\u00a0 Mankind, from the beginning of time, has been rebelling against any kind of accountability, any kind of submission to divine authority.\u00a0 We don\u2019t like it because we want to be our own god.\u00a0 I look at my own life, Bob, and I\u2019ve had to learn this lesson of submission the hard way.\u00a0 I\u2019ve had to make my own mistakes of realizing that there is only one who offers life, and there is only one who is going to give it, and that\u2019s when I\u2019m submitted to Jesus Christ and the truth of his word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think the point you make there is a good one.\u00a0 We all live in submission.\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s submission to ruling authorities and the government, whether it\u2019s to your boss at work, whether it\u2019s submission at home, or in a church setting we come under the authority of others and we need to learn all of us how to do that in a way that is liberating. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBunny is talking about it for wives in the context of what the scriptures teach and she talks about it in her book which is called <em>Liberated Through Submission<\/em> and we have copies of it in our FamilyLife resource center.\u00a0 We also have copies of Thanks for joining us on the Monday edition.\u00a0 I\u2019ll tell you what \u2013 we are so brave that we have decided today to take on a very controversial subject by getting out of here and letting a woman tackle it\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I wish our listeners could see Bob and me right now.\u00a0 Both of us are dressed in\u2026well, we have the head gear of a catcher on, we have the chest protector and the shin guards.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve got my camo on underneath that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 We are ready to stand strong and stand firm as we pass the ball to a woman well known to many of our listeners.\u00a0 In fact, she\u2019s written a book called <em>Liberated Through Submission<\/em>.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 There\u2019s the word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s the word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s the word.\u00a0 Bunny Wilson join us on the broadcast.\u00a0 Bunny and her husband, Frank, have been married for more than 20 years.\u00a0 Frank is known by many as a well-known song writer and record producer.\u00a0 They have two daughters and Bunny spoke at our Building Strong Families in Your Church conference, and spoke about the subject of submission.\u00a0 This is a really hot topic.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tand truthfully I felt like she was the one to speak on the subject of submission to the men and women who attended, because this is a really hot topic.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is, and obviously it\u2019s one that\u2019s created controversy in the news and in churches all across the country, primarily, we believe, because it\u2019s a misunderstood concept.\u00a0 I believe that as folks come face to face with what God\u2019s word is saying about submission, and if they don\u2019t go to the extreme side of thinking it means that you\u2019re a door mat, or if they don\u2019t run out the door altogether and say, \u201cI\u2019m not going to have anything to do with that.\u201d\u00a0 They find a beautiful, glorious truth of scripture when they come to this subject. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Actually, I\u2019d like to say it like this.\u00a0 The \u201cS\u201d word, submission, is really the \u201cL\u201d word, L meaning life.\u00a0 If you want to find life, where does the scripture tell you you have to go?\u00a0 You have to become as a little child, you have to humble yourself, and you have to submit to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, let\u2019s listen together as Bunny Wilson talks about being liberated through submission.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 When I came to Christ, Christianity, I came from being an atheist.\u00a0 An atheist is a person that does not believe in the existence of God.\u00a0 So when I finally came to meet Jesus Christ and I fell in love with Jesus, I fell in love with his word, and so I started reading it and eating it and eating it and eating it.\u00a0 Then one day I ran across a scripture that said, \u201cWives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands as unto to the Lord,\u201d and my first thought was, \u201cWhy would God mess up a good book with a scripture like that?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI had never heard of anything so oppressive in my life, but I said, \u201cOkay, okay, okay, it\u2019s in your word and Jesus, you said, I must deny myself, pick up my cross and follow you, so I\u2019ll do this,\u201d and I dove head-long into the act of submission for six years. See, I wouldn\u2019t have known submission if it would have walked up to me on the street and slapped me in the face, because I didn\u2019t see it when I was growing up.\u00a0 But I had seen \u201cLeave It To Beaver,\u201d and \u201cMake Room For Daddy,\u201d and I kind of figured out what it was supposed to look like.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSix years later I\u2019m standing in front of a bridal shop window with my six-year-old daughter, Lani, and I said to her\u2026we\u2019re looking at this wedding dress, and I said, \u201cJust think, Lani, one day you\u2019ll walk down the aisle wearing a beautiful dress like this.\u201d\u00a0 And she looked at me and she said, \u201cI\u2019m never getting married.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cYou\u2019re what?\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cWhy not?\u201d\u00a0 And she said, because Daddy tells you everything to do, you don\u2019t like it, and I won\u2019t either.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went home and I fell on my face before God and I said, \u201cGod, this submission thing is not working. My daughter is never going to get married, I\u2019m never going to have grandchildren just because I\u2019m trying to be submissive.\u00a0 Now, I\u2019ll do this thing, but you have to explain to me how Jesus came that I might have life and have it more abundantly and be submissive.\u201d\u00a0 I\u2019m so grateful for the scripture that says that if you ask, what\u2019ll happen?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 You shall receive.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right, and if you knock, it\u2019ll be answered, and if you seek, you will find.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t long after that that God explained to me that submission is a very positive, powerful, and aggressive principle that\u2019s been designed by God for every man.\u00a0 Say every man.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Every man.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 Every woman\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Every woman.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Single and married.\u00a0 Why is submission a positive principle?\u00a0 Is Jesus Christ our role model?\u00a0 You can say amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 Are we supposed to be walking in his footsteps?\u00a0 When Jesus Christ walked the face of the earth he was male and single, but he lived a totally submitted life.\u00a0 He said, \u201cI always do that which pleases the Father.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s what makes it a positive principle.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt is a powerful principle because in the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus Christ prayed three times in his humanity\u2026 \u201cFather, let this bitter cup pass from me.\u201d\u00a0 If we were to put it in today\u2019s vernacular he would be saying something in the order of \u201cI don\u2019t want to do it.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to do it.\u00a0\u00a0 Is there a plan B?\u00a0 Is there another way to get these people saved?\u00a0 This thing is going to hurt.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn his humanity, Jesus did not want to die on the cross, but the scripture goes on to say, \u201cBut nevertheless, not my will, but thy will be done.\u201d\u00a0 If Jesus had not submitted to death on the cross none of us today would have eternal life.\u00a0 So if we believe that salvation is God\u2019s number one greatest gift, we have to believe that submission is number two because it ushered in our salvation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd it\u2019s positive, it\u2019s powerful, and it\u2019s aggressive.\u00a0 It\u2019s aggressive because we\u2019re going to have to stand against the world, the flesh and the devil that\u2019s attempting to force feed us with the definition that says we\u2019ll be subservient and inferior and someone\u2019s door mat, and nothing could be further from the truth.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut I have a question to ask you.\u00a0 If submission is so powerful, positive, and aggressive and it\u2019s throughout the entire word as far as what our attitude is supposed to be and it\u2019s for every man and every woman single and married why is it when I tell a married man, when I tell him I\u2019ve written a book called <em>Liberated Through Submission<\/em>, he usually says I\u2019d like to buy that book for my\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wife.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 Why is it when I say it to a single woman a single woman will many times say \u201cI don\u2019t know if I can get married because I don\u2019t know if I can \u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Submit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 What she is really saying is that she believes that submission begins at the altar.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never heard a single man say to me I don\u2019t know if I can get married because I don\u2019t know if I could submit to God\u2019s word in the leadership of my family.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t even cross his mind? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo my next question to you is how could a principle so powerful, positive and aggressive become so distorted?\u00a0 Who do you think would want to distort the principle that ushered in our salvation?\u00a0 Does he have a name?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Satan.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 His name is Satan, and you know what?\u00a0 I don\u2019t like Satan and he doesn\u2019t like me, and it\u2019s a good thing.\u00a0 But I have to take my hat off the Satan because he has done a tremendous job.\u00a0 We are in the year 2000, and I cannot even get up in front of a group of saved women and say the word submission without coming behind it without a full explanation, because even though they love the Lord, they\u2019re saved and they\u2019re sanctified, and they\u2019re set apart.\u00a0 When I say the word submission, many women\u2019s faces contort.\u00a0 A lot of married women, they try to say, \u201cuh, uh\u201d\u2026 you have to hit \u2018em on the back just to get it out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 This is the year 2000.\u00a0 It was 2000 years ago that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave for our sins and today it is one of the most controversial subjects in the word of God.\u00a0 How did Satan do it?\u00a0 Well, he does it like he always does it.\u00a0 He divides and he conquers.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo what is the definition of submission?\u00a0 It means what Webster\u2019s dictionary says it means.\u00a0 It means to yield.\u00a0 Biblically, it means to yield to people, precepts, and principles that have been placed in our lives by God as authority.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen the southern Baptists announced that wives must submit to their husbands a lot of radio and television stations wanted to do interviews.\u00a0 Since I had written a book on submission they wanted to interview me and I started getting calls.\u00a0 I was invited to do a station that was a lot like Howard Stern radio station.\u00a0\u00a0 I was excited about doing the interview because even though a lot of people listening to the station didn\u2019t agree with what the Bible said it was just a great harvest or field of people that I could talk to.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo he called me up and said, \u201cwe\u2019ve been advertising this show for a week and the people are champing at the bit to get to you.\u201d\u00a0 It was a live call in radio show.\u00a0 As soon as he said that he pushed the button and the music came up.\u00a0 I\u2019ll call him Bob but that wasn\u2019t his real name.\u00a0 The first thing Bob said was, \u201cwe have Bunny Wilson here today and Bunny you\u2019ve come on the air today to tell these wives that they must submit is that why you are on the air today?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cWell no, actually Bob I came on the air today to tell them that you are a submitted man.\u00a0 And he said \u201chow do you figure that?\u201d\u00a0 I said \u201cdo you own that radio station?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cno I don\u2019t.\u201d I said, \u201cDo you have a general manager?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cYes, I do and it\u2019s a woman.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cThat\u2019s even better.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 (laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 I said, \u201cDo you always agree with the programming of the program manager?\u201d\u00a0 He said, \u201cWell of course not.\u201d\u00a0 I said, \u201cWell, the very fact that you are doing the interview today tells me that you are a submitted man.\u201d\u00a0 We went on to talk and he started laughing.\u00a0 He said, \u201cWell, I guess you have a point there.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe talked about what the definition of submission was and then he said let\u2019s open up the phone lines.\u00a0 The first lady to call in screamed in the phone and said, \u201cWell, Bunny Bimbo.\u00a0 We ought take your book and burn it in a fire.\u201d\u00a0 I said to her, \u201cI\u2019m not going to call you by a derogatory name because I don\u2019t know you and you don\u2019t know me.\u00a0 If you knew me you\u2019d know I wasn\u2019t a bimbo and if you\u2019d read my book it would be at the top of a bookshelf not burning in a fire.\u00a0 Let me ask you a question.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Laughter\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you know that atheists are submitted women?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe said, \u201cwhat are you talking about?\u201d\u00a0 I said, Okay let me explain to you.\u00a0 Feminists women are submitted.\u00a0 Feminists have organizations.\u00a0 They have a president, vice president, directors and field representatives.\u00a0 When they meet in their board rooms do you think they always agree about the direction of their feminist movement?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOf course you know they don\u2019t because they are outspoken, opinionated women.\u00a0 When they go in that board room they know that no matter what they discuss the president has the right to make the final decision.\u00a0 They know that before they leave that room they must graciously submit because a house divided against itself cannot stand.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe question is never are you submitted.\u00a0 The only question is who and what are you submitted to?\u00a0 But we all yield to something and when you are a Christian woman you are submitted and yielded, or should be, to God\u2019s flow chart, so who are we called to yield to?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re called to yield or submit to God, James 4 and 7, \u201cSubmit yourself, therefore, unto God.\u201d\u00a0 We\u2019re called to submit to the government, 1 Peter 2 and 13, we\u2019re called to submit to our employers, 1 Peter 2 and 18, we\u2019re called to submit to our pastors, Hebrews 13, 17, so whether you\u2019re male or female, single or married, you are called to submit to God, to the government, to your employer, and to your pastor.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow keep in mind submission never has anything to do with immorality or abuse.\u00a0 In other words, a person\u2026your boss cannot ask you to sign false documents.\u00a0 Your husband cannot ask you to sign a false tax return and you have to.\u00a0 You do not have to submit to anything abusive or immoral.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, if you are married, the husband is called to submit to four times as many things as the wife.\u00a0 He is called to submit to God in loving his wife as Christ loved the church, to being the final decision maker, the spiritual leader, and to living with her according to understanding.\u00a0 And trust me, he has to be submitted to God in order to pull all of that off.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe wife is called to submit to her husband\u2019s final decision.\u00a0 It is not conditional.\u00a0 A wife cannot say, \u201cI don\u2019t have to submit to your final authority if you don\u2019t love me as Christ loved the church.\u201d\u00a0 God\u2019s word is not conditional.\u00a0 You yield to your husband\u2019s final decision because that\u2019s what God\u2019s word teaches and that is the flow chart, and you\u2019ll learn how the power is released in that when you do that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSubmission is like a broken traffic signal.\u00a0 When you learned how to drive, you learned in the rule book that if you come to a four-way intersection and the traffic signal is broken, what are you supposed to do?\u00a0 You\u2019re supposed to stop and then you are supposed to yield to the person on the right and go two by two until the traffic signal is fixed.\u00a0 As a matter of fact, I\u2019ve come to busy four-way intersections and have gotten through the intersection faster because the traffic signal was broken than if it would have stayed up, because they\u2019ve got so many turns and so many lights.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow what do you think would happen if that rule had never been written into our driver\u2019s book?\u00a0 In other words, that rule was not in place.\u00a0 What do you think would happen at intersections\u2026four-way intersections\u2026where the traffic signal was out, and there were no rules?\u00a0 What do you think would be happening in the intersections of our streets?\u00a0 Chaos, confusion, accidents, arguments.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou have to ask yourself why do we even need submission? When we get to heaven there will be no giving in marriage, we\u2019ll have the mind of Christ.\u00a0 So why is it even established on the earth?\u00a0 There was a pastor that said, \u201cGod sees the view, we see a speck of it, that\u2019s why it\u2019s called our point of view.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFrom my point of view it\u2019s clear to me that God created some free-thinking individuals, where the Bible says every man\u2019s way is right in his own eyes, which means if we spent any amount of time together, in our churches, on our jobs, in our homes, sooner or later the signal of our communication is going to go down.\u00a0 There\u2019s going to come a time when we simply do not agree with one another.\u00a0 If an order has not been established in our lives, we will be in the intersection of our lives, on our jobs, churches, home, with chaos, confusion, arguments, contention.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt is so amazing to me the number of Christian couples who don\u2019t understand this principle and you follow them home\u2026yes, they love the Lord, yes, they read the scriptures, yes, they pay their tithes, but if you were to follow them home, there is so much argument and divisiveness and contention in their marriage relationship.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because a judge once said, \u201cthe ignorance of the law does not excuse you from the penalty of the law.\u201d\u00a0 Just because you don\u2019t understand how it works doesn\u2019t mean that you don\u2019t have to suffer the consequences.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo what does submission look like?\u00a0 Well, let\u2019s take a single person as an example, because we usually always use married people.\u00a0 But let\u2019s use a single person.\u00a0 A single person\u2026it\u2019s April 15th \u2026wakes up, finishes filling out their tax form, hates to pay taxes, but in submission to the government writes the check and puts it in there\u2026his suit pocket\u2026let\u2019s say it\u2019s a man.\u00a0 He gets in the car, and in submission to the government he fastens his seat belt, although he hates to fasten his seat belt, it wrinkles his suit, but in submission to the government he does that.\u00a0 On the way to work he pulls his speed limit down to the flow of traffic or to the speed limit in submission to the government.\u00a0 He gets to his job, he goes in his boss\u2019s office.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHer name is Sally.\u00a0 He says, \u201cSally, have you thought about we discussed?\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cI have but I\u2019d like for you to do it my way.\u201d\u00a0 According to the word of God, he yields to the final decision of his employer, he goes to church that night, his weekly Bible study.\u00a0 He\u2019s just gotten paid, he can think of so much he could do with that 10 percent that belongs to God, but in submission to God\u2019s word and submission to God, he pays his tithes, goes to see the pastor after church and says, \u201cPastor, have you thought about what we talked about?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe pastor says, \u201cYes, I prayed about it.\u00a0 I think we need to do it the way I said.\u201d\u00a0 And on one given day this single man has submitted to God, to the government, to his pastor, and to his employer.\u00a0 We do it all the time.\u00a0 We just don\u2019t identify it by the right word, which is submission.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow does it work in my married life?\u00a0 Well, submission is not an ominous, oppressive force that hangs over my marriage relationship with Frank.\u00a0 As a matter of fact, we can go for days, sometimes even weeks, just giving and exchanging ideas and opinions, but every now and then we come to a place where we simply do not agree.\u00a0 It is at that point that I am able to tell him why I don\u2019t agree with him.\u00a0 As a matter of fact, I can even be very definite.\u00a0 The Bible says, \u201cBe angry and sin not.\u201d\u00a0 But if I get to a place that I want to stop talking about his family, slamming doors, silent treatment, playing possum...you know what playing possum is, don\u2019t you ladies?\u00a0 That\u2019s when you go to bed and act like you\u2019re asleep?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Laughter\u00a0\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bunny:<\/strong>\u00a0 But when you get to that point you\u2019re in a place where you\u2019re about to sin, and just like that broken traffic signal I have to stop.\u00a0 Now, does that mean that Frank just gets to walk all over me, I\u2019m just a door mat.\u00a0 I just have to go along with all he says?\u00a0 No, I stop because if I don\u2019t stop I run into Philippians 2:14-15, which is going to give me a ticket if I don\u2019t stop.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPhilippians 2:14-15 says, \u201cDo all things without murmuring or complaining.\u201d\u00a0 Do all things\u2026how much is all?\u00a0 Some of the scriptures say do everything.\u00a0 Do everything without murmuring or complaining.\u00a0 Some of your Bibles says arguing or disputing.\u00a0 In the life of a believer there should never be a murmur, a complaint, an argument, or a dispute, according to Philippians 2:14.\u00a0 Do everything without murmuring and complaining, arguing and disputing.\u00a0 And it goes on in verse 15 to tell you why.\u00a0 It says so that you may be blameless and harmless children of God which shines as a light as you uphold the word of God, as you shine into this crooked and perverse generation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod is saying it is the world.\u00a0 It is in the intersections of life\u2026murmuring and complaining, arguing and disputing, and they ought to be able to look up and see us standing on the sidelines.\u00a0 They know we have challenges and problems in our lives, but we don\u2019t have that kind of spirit because we don\u2019t have to have it.\u00a0 Why do I have to defend myself if God is my defense?\u00a0 Why should I complain and murmur when God opens doors that no man can shut, and shuts doors that no man can open?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe\u2019s my stronghold, he\u2019s my refuge, he\u2019s my strength.\u00a0 Trust in the Lord with all of your heart.\u00a0 Trust in the Lord with all of your heart.\u00a0 That\u2019s where you make your decisions.\u00a0 And lean not to your own understanding.\u00a0 A murmuring spirit comes from you trying to figure out why things are happening the way they\u2026we don\u2019t lean to our understanding.\u00a0 We acknowledge Him in all of Thy ways and He shall direct our steps.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe reason that submission is such a powerful principle is because it operates on pure faith.\u00a0 It says, \u201cI believe that God sees all, hears all, knows all, and He will intervene on my behalf.\u201d\u00a0 And how powerful is that?\u00a0 I mean, the Bible could have said Jesus Christ died on the cross and if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, thou shall be saved and you shall go to heaven, The End.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s the way the Bible could have ended.\u00a0 I mean, God could have said, \u201cYou\u2019re down here on earth, I\u2019m not going to get involved with earthly affairs.\u00a0 There\u2019s demons and devils and imps and all kinds of hatred and cruelties on the earth, but you\u2019ll just have to deal with it, but when you die I\u2019ll accept you into heaven and that\u2019ll be your rest.\u201d\u00a0 He could have done that.\u00a0 He said, \u201cBut, lo, I am with you always, even into the ends of the earth.\u201d\u00a0 He said that if you tell me everything, if you commit all of your ways to me, I will direct your steps.\u00a0 I care about every single thing that is involved in your life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat kind of God do we have that would serve us to that kind of capacity?\u00a0 That not only would He die on the cross for our sins, but He would be willing to intervene in our affairs?\u00a0 Submission means God intervenes, and when we have the faith to do it right and get out of God\u2019s way, God has a clear shot at fixing whatever needs to be fixed.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo when Frank and I don\u2019t agree, if I get to a point where I\u2019m about to sin, argue, contend, murmur, complain, have an attitude.\u00a0 I have to stop because I don\u2019t want Philippians 2:14 to write me a ticket, because for a long time I was getting tickets, I didn\u2019t know where to pay the tickets and they turned into warrants.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t know where to pay the warrants and they threw me in jail and I was imprisoned by my own stubbornness, contention, rebellion, and anger.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut, thank God, God made a way for me to escape.\u00a0 So do I just stop and then don\u2019t say anything?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 Remember I told you submission is aggressive.\u00a0 God wants us to speak, but He wants us to speak the truth in love.\u00a0 Now, what is God\u2019s love?\u00a0 What kind of love is God\u2019s love?\u00a0 Agape love, unconditional love, which means you go with no strings attached and, ladies, you tell him the truth.\u00a0 The Bible says the heart studies to answer, so when you go and talk to him you go to him and you speak to him in the right spirit.\u00a0 You go to him and you speak to him, having thought it through.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, that\u2019s Bunny Wilson talking about submission and how it liberates us.\u00a0 I\u2019ll tell you what, Dennis, I love hearing women like Bunny speak on this subject, because you listen to them and, you know, this is a woman who does not easily submit.\u00a0 She\u2019s a strong woman.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yeah, you can tell there\u2019s some\u2026there\u2019s some fire in those eyes.\u00a0 I\u2019ve met Bunny and she\u2019s not a door mat.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But when it comes to obedience to God\u2019s word, that\u2019s when you have to step up and say, \u201cyou know what?\u00a0 Even if it goes against the grain of who I am, I\u2019ve got to submit.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, when you come to this subject of submission, I always think back to 1 Peter\u2026no, not chapter 3\u2026that\u2019s where a lot of people go, but I go to chapter 2 in a little section that reads like this:\u00a0 \u201cWhen they hurled their insults at him\u201d\u2026speaking of Jesus\u2026\u201che did not retaliate.\u00a0 When he suffered he made no threats.\u00a0 Instead, he entrusted himself.\u201d\u00a0 Another way of saying that would be He submitted himself.\u00a0 Jesus Christ gave himself to him who judges righteously.\u00a0 He, himself, bore our sins in his body on the tree so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness.\u00a0 By his wounds, you have been healed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s interesting that through Christ\u2019s submission. We find life.\u00a0 We find healing.\u00a0 We find wholeness.\u00a0 The flesh doesn\u2019t like to submit, whether you\u2019re a man or a woman, and it\u2019s not just the woman who\u2019s called to submit.\u00a0 Yes, she\u2019s called to submit to her husband, but both the husband and the wife are both called to submit to Jesus Christ and to the truth of scripture.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd, Bob, therein lies the real rub, I think, when you come to this word called submission.\u00a0 Mankind, from the beginning of time, has been rebelling against any kind of accountability, any kind of submission to divine authority.\u00a0 We don\u2019t like it because we want to be our own god.\u00a0 I look at my own life, Bob, and I\u2019ve had to learn this lesson of submission the hard way.\u00a0 I\u2019ve had to make my own mistakes of realizing that there is only one who offers life, and there is only one who is going to give it, and that\u2019s when I\u2019m submitted to Jesus Christ and the truth of his word.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think the point you make there is a good one.\u00a0 We all live in submission.\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s submission to ruling authorities and the government, whether it\u2019s to your boss at work, whether it\u2019s submission at home, or in a church setting we come under the authority of others and we need to learn all of us how to do that in a way that is liberating. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBunny is talking about it for wives in the context of what the scriptures teach and she talks about it in her book which is called <em>Liberated Through Submission<\/em> and we have copies of it in our FamilyLife resource center.\u00a0 We also have copies of
