Worth, in October.\u00a0 These are great events for women to go to.\u00a0 I\u2019m looking forward to being there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well you had a lot of fun with the ladies.\u00a0 You can hear them chuckling and laughing.\u00a0 You may have had too good a time there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We had a good time.\u00a0 Mary Ann was there with me.\u00a0 I kept looking over at her to see if she was nodding, and she was.\u00a0 So, hopefully this will bring some understanding to our listeners today, as well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right, Bob.\u00a0 And so why don\u2019t we listen to Bob Lepine speaking at the True Woman conference in Chattanooga earlier this year.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Alright.\u00a0 What I\u2019m going to try to do this afternoon is fill you in, as best I can as a representative of the other half of the race.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m going to try to do my best to fill you in on what I think <em>most<\/em> guys would want me to say to you, most of your husbands would want me to say to you.\u00a0 To help you better understand how men think, and how different we think than the way you think.\u00a0 How many of you have been married for less than a year?\u00a0 Anybody in here married less than a year?\u00a0 Okay, we\u2019ve got a few hands.\u00a0 Did it take you long to figure out that your husband thinks differently than you think?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s an interesting phenomenon, when we\u2019re dating <em>what<\/em> we look at.\u00a0 We go, \u201cThe thing that I love so much about this other person is how alike we are!\u201d\u00a0 Right?\u00a0 And then we get married, and we go, \u201cWhat happened to you?\u00a0 How did you turn into this person?\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s surprising, in fact, I have to tell you\u2014my wife who is here with me, and would you mind standing up and waving to the ladies?\u00a0 Here\u2019s my wife, Mary Ann.\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Applause)\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMary Ann read Shaunti Feldhan\u2019s helpful little book, <em>For Women Only<\/em>, about five or six years ago, I think.\u00a0 We\u2019d been married 20 plus years at the time.\u00a0 And there was still stuff in there that she goes, \u201cReally?\u00a0 Is this true?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo let\u2019s set a context for this by looking at what God has revealed in His Word.\u00a0 Genesis 1:27 says this, \u201cIn the image of God He created him, male and female He created them.\u00a0 And what we see there is God\u2019s original intent for creation was that His glory would be reflected in two people\u2014two <em>different <\/em>people\u2014reflecting together His image.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, each one of us, in this room, is an image-bearer of God, right?\u00a0 The image of God is stamped on your soul.\u00a0 But when a man and woman come together in a marriage relationship, there is something reflected about the character and nature of God that is <em>not<\/em> reflected in an individual \u201cimage of God bearer.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn fact, I would suggest this to you.\u00a0 When we think of Creation, we usually think that there are six days of Creation.\u00a0 At the end of the six days, God rests.\u00a0 Well that\u2019s truth.\u00a0 That\u2019s the big story of Creation.\u00a0 But if you read Genesis 1 and the account of Creation, Genesis 2 comes back in and picks up the middle of that sixth day, and elaborates a little bit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, for example, you see God creating light and darkness, and then you see him creating plants, and then there are fish and there are birds, and then there are people on the sixth day.\u00a0 Then in Genesis 2, Moses comes back around, and says, \u201cNow, let me unpack a little bit about what happened on that sixth day\u201d because God did not create the man and the woman at the same time, did He?\u00a0 You know the account.\u00a0 Genesis 2, this is fascinating.\u00a0 At the end of each day of Creation, what did God say about what He had just created?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was good.\u00a0 When he got to the end of the whole thing, He said, \u201cIt\u2019s very good.\u201d\u00a0 You get to Genesis 2:18, there is a shocking statement.\u00a0 God says, \u201cIt is not good.\u201d\u00a0 He has been creating; everything he\u2019s created is good.\u00a0 For Him to look at something and say, \u201cIt\u2019s not good,\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tsin hasn\u2019t messed anything up yet.\u00a0 So what He\u2019s saying when He says \u201cIt is not good\u201d is He\u2019s really saying, \u201cI\u2019m not done yet.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would suggest to you that Creation is not completed until the man and the woman have been created and then brought together, and this new oneness is created in marriage.\u00a0 The end of Creation is the wedding.\u00a0 The last thing God creates is a married couple.\u00a0 He\u2019s created the man, he\u2019s created the woman.\u00a0 But He\u2019s not done until He brings them together, and creates one out of two\u2014a \u201cone flesh\u201d creation.\u00a0 That\u2019s the pinnacle of God\u2019s creation.\u00a0 Once He\u2019s done, it\u2019s also the first place that the Enemy goes to attack.\u00a0 Let me suggest to you, today, the pattern has not changed.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe first place the Enemy wants to undermine and attack, in your life, is in your marriage.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because, in a unique way, you reflect the Trinitarian nature of God, he does not like that reflection.\u00a0 So he\u2019ll martial his forces to try to keep you from representing the oneness of God in your marriage.\u00a0 Do you see that?\u00a0 Do you see how critical this is to the plan of God?\u00a0 How essential it is to Creation.\u00a0 And how what the Enemy says when he comes in, in Genesis 3, is \u201cI\u2019m going to see if I can disrupt this relationship because I know that as soon as I can disrupt this relationship, the next thing that\u2019ll happen is this relationship is going to \u2018go south\u2019 real quick.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo you know the account.\u00a0 Eve is in the Garden.\u00a0 She\u2019s been told that there\u2019s this one tree in the middle of the garden, both the man and the woman\u2014have been told not to eat of this tree.\u00a0 The serpent comes in.\u00a0 He tempts her with, \u201cHas God really said?\u201d\u00a0 And she, by the way, I don\u2019t know if you noticed this, when she gives him what God has said, she adds to God\u2019s word.\u00a0 Have you ever noticed that?\u00a0 She said that \u201cGod said we shouldn\u2019t even touch it.\u201d\u00a0 Eve is the first legalist!\u00a0 Really!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe is adding something to God\u2019s word and taken it up a notch.\u00a0 Satan knows as soon as he\u2019s got her doing that, he\u2019s got her.\u00a0 So he says, \u201cOh, you won\u2019t die.\u00a0 You won\u2019t die, in fact you\u2019ll live.\u00a0 You\u2019ll be as smart as God.\u00a0 God just doesn\u2019t want you to be in control of your own life.\u00a0 Don\u2019t you want to be in control of your own life?\u201d\u00a0 When the woman saw that the fruit looked good to the eyes, it was the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life to make one wise unto salvation.\u00a0 She took it and she ate it, and she gave it to the man who was\u2026where?\u00a0 With her.\u00a0 Did you notice?\u00a0 Who does God come looking for at the end of this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Adam.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cAdam, where are you?\u201d\u00a0 Eve was tempted and fell.\u00a0 Adam was passive.\u00a0 And in his passivity, what Adam should have been doing was, \u201cSweetheart!\u00a0 Do not listen to that snake!\u00a0 What are you doing?\u00a0 No, no\u2026honey, no!\u00a0 Snake!\u00a0 Get out of here!\u201d\u00a0 He should have gone and gotten the axe, gone after the snake, and told his wife to go back and be quiet.\u00a0 Right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo God comes to hold Adam accountable for what has just happened to the human race.\u00a0 But notice this.\u00a0 They both start to feel guilt\u2014which they\u2019ve never felt before.\u00a0 So they hide themselves.\u00a0 They start to feel shame\u2014which they\u2019ve never felt before.\u00a0 So those who were naked and unashamed, now start to hide themselves with fig leaves from one another.\u00a0 And then the next thing they do when God comes and says, \u201cWhat happened here?\u201d\u00a0 Adam says, \u201cWell, she did it!\u00a0 It was the woman You gave me!\u00a0 I think You\u2019ve sent a defective model\u201d is what he\u2019s saying.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo God turns to the woman and He says, \u201cWhat happened here?\u201d\u00a0 And she says, \u201cWell, it was the snake.\u201d\u00a0 So there\u2019s this blame-shifting going on.\u00a0 There\u2019s no accountability.\u00a0 There\u2019s no repentance.\u00a0 There\u2019s no confession.\u00a0 There\u2019s just blaming. There\u2019s just pointing the finger elsewhere.\u00a0 God, graciously in the middle of that, performs the first sacrifice of animals\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tto provide animal skins for the man and the woman.\u00a0 And gives them the promise that the seed that comes from the woman\u2014that snake may bruise your heel, but that seed will crush his head.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHallelujah.\u00a0 That is Christ who is prefigured in Genesis 3, and the rest of the story is pointing to him and to the cross\u2014both before and after, until we reach the consummation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, there\u2019s something <em>so profound<\/em> going on in the garden, I want to make sure that you are aware of that.\u00a0 But I also want to go back to Adam, before the fall.\u00a0 Actually, I don\u2019t want to call it the fall, because it sounds too passive.\u00a0 Before the rebellion because that\u2019s what it was.\u00a0 Before the rebellion, Adam was in the garden, and God gave him an assignment to name the animals.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I don\u2019t know if you\u2019ve ever looked at Genesis 2 this carefully, but He says to Adam, \u201cIt\u2019s not good for man to be alone.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to make a helper suitable for him.\u201d\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t say that to Adam, He says it to Himself.\u00a0 And then He goes to Adam, and He says, \u201cI\u2019ve got a job for you.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to bring the animals by, and I\u2019m going to have you name them.\u201d\u00a0 So Adam says, \u201cOkay, whatever You say LORD.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo the animals come by, and God\u2014in show and tell time\u2014points out to Adam that what He\u2019s bringing by, there are two of each kind, that are kind of alike, but not exactly.\u00a0 So Adam is going, \u201cBuck and doe.\u00a0 Rooster and hen.\u201d\u00a0 You know, he\u2019s naming all the animals.\u00a0 Adam may not have been the smartest guy\u2014well I guess he was the smartest guy in the world, but\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut he was also the dumbest guy in the world, so we\u2019ll go with that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPretty soon, it dawns on Adam as he\u2019s petting his golden retriever, who\u2019s got another golden retriever laying right next to him.\u00a0 He\u2019s going, \u201cWhere\u2019s mine?\u00a0 Where\u2019s mine?\u201d\u00a0 And God said, \u201cExactly.\u00a0 I wanted you to realize, Adam, that you needed something.\u00a0 I gave you this whole exercise, so that before I give you the gift, you recognize the need.\u00a0 You value what I\u2019m going to give to you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAdam realized he had the need, only after this animal naming exercise.\u00a0 So God causes Adam to fall into a deep sleep, the Bible says.\u00a0 And that\u2019s, by the way, why men snore and sleep as deeply as we do.\u00a0 It\u2019s the vestiges of the Garden still in us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAdam falls into a deep sleep.\u00a0 God takes a rib from his side.\u00a0 He creates the woman.\u00a0 Creates Adam out of the dust of the ground, He creates the woman out of the bone of Adam\u2019s side.\u00a0 Then He wakes Adam up.\u00a0 And Adam looks---just after naming all the animals\u2014he looks at Eve and he says, \u201cThis\u2026this is now bone of my bone.\u00a0 Flesh of my flesh.\u00a0 There\u2019s one like me.\u00a0 She\u2019s different but she\u2019s like me.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then Adam names her, \u201cShe shall be called Ishah.\u00a0 She shall be called, \u2018Woman,\u2019 for she was taken out of the side of man.\u201d\u00a0 He thinks he\u2019s pretty clever because of his play on words\u2026he\u2019s Ish\u2026she\u2019s Ishah.\u00a0 I know a good name for her; we\u2019ll call her \u201cIshah\u201d for she is flesh of my flesh, bone of my bone.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe next thing that happens is God immediately gets them married.\u00a0 \u201cFor this cause man leaves father and mother, cleaves to his wife, the two become one flesh, and they were both naked and not ashamed.\u00a0 The reason He immediately got them married, is when you\u2019ve got two naked people in the garden, you want to get them married.\u00a0 So He gets that done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow listen.\u00a0 I believe that God intended for that husband\/wife, man\/woman relationship to reflect His glory.\u00a0 So why doesn\u2019t it?\u00a0 Well, we have to go to Genesis 3 to see that when things got corrupted between us and God, things got corrupted between one another.\u00a0 And conflict has entered the picture that was not there before.\u00a0 Why is there conflict in a marriage relationship?\u00a0 What causes the conflict to come?\u00a0 If we were\u2014as husband and wife\u2014in perfect unity, in perfect alignment; if we were as Philippians 2 says, \u201cof the same mind, having the same love, intent on one purpose.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf we were that, would we have conflict?\u00a0 No, because we\u2019d be in agreement\u2014which is what God wants us to get to in marriage. But, we have conflict.\u00a0 Here\u2019s why we have conflict\u2014James 4:1.\u00a0 James asks, \u201cWhy is there conflict and fighting among you?\u201d\u00a0 He says, \u201cBecause your members (that is, inside you) there\u2019s a war going on.\u00a0 You want and you cannot have, so you murder.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou go, \u201cNow wait a second.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never murdered anybody.\u201d\u00a0 Jesus said, \u201cIf you look on someone with anger, you\u2019ve murdered them in your heart.\u201d\u00a0 Okay, now.\u00a0 How many murderers do we have in the room?\u00a0 We\u2019ve got a room full of murderers.\u00a0 And why do you murder?\u00a0 Because you want, and you don\u2019t get what you want.\u00a0 And that creates conflict. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo you take a man and a woman, who both want what they want.\u00a0 You put them together and say, \u201cNow, work it out.\u201d\u00a0 As long as they want what they want, and aren\u2019t getting what they want, then they murder each other.\u00a0 Satan delights because the picture of unity and agreement and alignment is broken.\u00a0 The image of God is marred in the world, so he is as happy as a clam when that happens.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat we\u2019re going to talk about here is some of the ways that conflict happens that are fueled by our differences.\u00a0 God made us different to complement one another.\u00a0 Sometimes our differences annoy one another.\u00a0 And we\u2019re going to look at some of what we\u2019ve observed as differences and see how that leads to conflict, and how it leads to marring the image of God.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to try and give you a list of about 10 things that I think are true for <em>most<\/em> men.\u00a0 There may be some of these that don\u2019t apply to your husband.\u00a0 This is for <em>most<\/em> men.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s the first thing.\u00a0 Your husband may not even realize, but it\u2019s true because the Bible says it\u2019s true.\u00a0 Your husband needs you to be a helper.\u00a0 He needs you to be a helper.\u00a0 God said to Adam, \u201cIt\u2019s not good for man to be alone.\u00a0 I will make a helper suitable.\u201d\u00a0 Now some of you may have, at some point in your life, recoiled at that term.\u00a0 Somebody coming along and calling you a helper.\u00a0 That just sounds second class, demeaning, and not very exalted, right?\u00a0 To call someone a helper, if you\u2019re in school, there\u2019s the teacher and the teacher\u2019s helper.\u00a0 Well, the teacher is the important one.\u00a0 The helper just gets the paste out when it\u2019s time for paste stuff, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you think to yourself, \u201cI don\u2019t want to be a helper.\u00a0 I want to be <em>somebody<\/em>.\u00a0 Helper doesn\u2019t sound like anybody.\u00a0 That same word, \u201cI will make a helper suitable for him,\u201d is found other places in the Bible, like \u201cGod is our <em>help<\/em> in time of need.\u00a0 Like Jesus saying, \u201cIt\u2019s good that I go away because if I go, I will send to you another helper.\u201d\u00a0 Who\u2019s he talking about?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Holy Spirit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Holy Spirit.\u00a0 When he says, \u201canother helper,\u201d who\u2019s the first one?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 He is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Jesus.\u00a0 Father, Son, Holy Ghost identified Themselves to us as our Helpers.\u00a0 Is that a demeaning term?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 Is it an exalted term?\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 So why don\u2019t we like that term, helper?\u00a0 Because we\u2019ve got pride and pride wants us to be something better than that.\u00a0 Better than God.\u00a0 That\u2019s why Eve ate the fruit.\u00a0 Because the snake said, \u201cWhen you eat it, you won\u2019t have to depend on God anymore.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod calls you \u201chelper,\u201d you go, \u201cI\u2019d like to be called something a little more noble than that, God.\u201d\u00a0 Well, here\u2019s the thing.\u00a0 He calls you a helper, but the implication\u2026you\u2019re married to a guy who needs help.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe very fact that you are called a helper, means your husband needs help, whether he knows it or not.\u00a0 The great theologian, Rocky Balboa\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome of you can go back to 1976.\u00a0 The \u201cBest Picture\u201d was Rocky 1.\u00a0 How many of you saw Rocky 1?\u00a0 Here\u2019s the great moment of theology that happens in Rocky 1.\u00a0 Rocky, you know, is kind of sweet on Adrian, right?\u00a0 She\u2019s shy and works at the pet shop.\u00a0 Rocky goes by, and he\u2019s kind of clumsy and awkward.\u00a0 It\u2019s just so cute to see them trying to like each other, and they can\u2019t, right?\u00a0 But, Adrian\u2019s brother, Pauly, is trying to protect his little sister.\u00a0 He knows Rocky is on the prowl, so he has this man-to-man talk with him at one point.\u00a0 He says, \u201cHey, Rocky.\u00a0 What is it you see in my sister?\u201d\u00a0 And Rocky says, \u201cI...I don\u2019t know.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter and applause)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThank you.\u00a0 Thank you very much.\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 I\u2019ll have a dinner show tonight at six, and one at 10 pm.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tRocky says, \u201cI\u2026I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 Huh\u2026I got gaps.\u00a0 She got gaps.\u00a0 Together we got no gaps.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDo you know what theologian Balboa was saying there?\u00a0 Here\u2019s what he was saying, \u201cI need help.\u00a0 And she fills in where I need help.\u00a0 And together we got no gaps.\u201d\u00a0 Isn\u2019t that a beautiful picture?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, it is interesting to stop and think about our differences, and how they are fertile soil for there to be much marital discord.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No doubt.\u00a0 In fact it\u2019s our differences that attract us before we get married.\u00a0 And then after we\u2019re married\u2014it\u2019s like the magnets that couldn\u2019t stay away from each other?\u00a0 Somehow you turn them and all of a sudden you feel that\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 (laughing) The push back? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The repelling occurring?\u00a0 Well, that can happen in marriage.\u00a0 So you really have to take a step back and look to the One who gave you your spouse in the first place.\u00a0 And realize that your spouse\u2019s differences have a <em>divine purpose<\/em> in your life.\u00a0 Now, do you believe that?\u00a0 Sometimes it can be difficult to believe that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Especially when your spouse\u2019s weaknesses encroach on your needs or your wants, or how you\u2019re feeling.\u00a0 And that\u2019s why I think marriage is so redemptive.\u00a0 It forces us to be dependent upon God, and ask Him to empower us to be able to better love our spouses when they\u2019re not lovable\u2014when we don\u2019t want to.\u00a0 And you know what?\u00a0 Jesus Christ can give you the power and the ability to love another imperfect person.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And that kind of perspective alignment was what I was watching happen, as I spoke to the women at the workshop, at the True Woman conference, in Chattanooga.\u00a0 You could tell that some of these women were pulling back and just recalibrating and re-thinking the job that God has given them.\u00a0 The assignment He\u2019s given them to come alongside, to help, and complement and love and respect their husbands.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd let me quickly mention that there are going to be two more of these True Woman conferences coming up this fall.\u00a0 In September, there\u2019s going to be one in Indianapolis.\u00a0 And in October, there\u2019s one in Ft. Woman conference in Chattanooga, earlier this year.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I had the chance to do a workshop at this True Woman conference, back in Chattanooga.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And the title of the message was\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cWhat Husbands Wish Their Wives Knew About Men.\u201d\u00a0 And, in fact, I\u2019m going to get a chance to do this workshop again at the True Woman \u201910 conference in Indianapolis, coming up in September and then at the one in Ft. Worth, in October.\u00a0 These are great events for women to go to.\u00a0 I\u2019m looking forward to being there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well you had a lot of fun with the ladies.\u00a0 You can hear them chuckling and laughing.\u00a0 You may have had too good a time there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 We had a good time.\u00a0 Mary Ann was there with me.\u00a0 I kept looking over at her to see if she was nodding, and she was.\u00a0 So, hopefully this will bring some understanding to our listeners today, as well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right, Bob.\u00a0 And so why don\u2019t we listen to Bob Lepine speaking at the True Woman conference in Chattanooga earlier this year.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Alright.\u00a0 What I\u2019m going to try to do this afternoon is fill you in, as best I can as a representative of the other half of the race.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m going to try to do my best to fill you in on what I think <em>most<\/em> guys would want me to say to you, most of your husbands would want me to say to you.\u00a0 To help you better understand how men think, and how different we think than the way you think.\u00a0 How many of you have been married for less than a year?\u00a0 Anybody in here married less than a year?\u00a0 Okay, we\u2019ve got a few hands.\u00a0 Did it take you long to figure out that your husband thinks differently than you think?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s an interesting phenomenon, when we\u2019re dating <em>what<\/em> we look at.\u00a0 We go, \u201cThe thing that I love so much about this other person is how alike we are!\u201d\u00a0 Right?\u00a0 And then we get married, and we go, \u201cWhat happened to you?\u00a0 How did you turn into this person?\u201d\u00a0 It\u2019s surprising, in fact, I have to tell you\u2014my wife who is here with me, and would you mind standing up and waving to the ladies?\u00a0 Here\u2019s my wife, Mary Ann.\u00a0 Thank you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Applause)\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMary Ann read Shaunti Feldhan\u2019s helpful little book, <em>For Women Only<\/em>, about five or six years ago, I think.\u00a0 We\u2019d been married 20 plus years at the time.\u00a0 And there was still stuff in there that she goes, \u201cReally?\u00a0 Is this true?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo let\u2019s set a context for this by looking at what God has revealed in His Word.\u00a0 Genesis 1:27 says this, \u201cIn the image of God He created him, male and female He created them.\u00a0 And what we see there is God\u2019s original intent for creation was that His glory would be reflected in two people\u2014two <em>different <\/em>people\u2014reflecting together His image.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, each one of us, in this room, is an image-bearer of God, right?\u00a0 The image of God is stamped on your soul.\u00a0 But when a man and woman come together in a marriage relationship, there is something reflected about the character and nature of God that is <em>not<\/em> reflected in an individual \u201cimage of God bearer.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn fact, I would suggest this to you.\u00a0 When we think of Creation, we usually think that there are six days of Creation.\u00a0 At the end of the six days, God rests.\u00a0 Well that\u2019s truth.\u00a0 That\u2019s the big story of Creation.\u00a0 But if you read Genesis 1 and the account of Creation, Genesis 2 comes back in and picks up the middle of that sixth day, and elaborates a little bit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, for example, you see God creating light and darkness, and then you see him creating plants, and then there are fish and there are birds, and then there are people on the sixth day.\u00a0 Then in Genesis 2, Moses comes back around, and says, \u201cNow, let me unpack a little bit about what happened on that sixth day\u201d because God did not create the man and the woman at the same time, did He?\u00a0 You know the account.\u00a0 Genesis 2, this is fascinating.\u00a0 At the end of each day of Creation, what did God say about what He had just created?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was good.\u00a0 When he got to the end of the whole thing, He said, \u201cIt\u2019s very good.\u201d\u00a0 You get to Genesis 2:18, there is a shocking statement.\u00a0 God says, \u201cIt is not good.\u201d\u00a0 He has been creating; everything he\u2019s created is good.\u00a0 For Him to look at something and say, \u201cIt\u2019s not good,\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tsin hasn\u2019t messed anything up yet.\u00a0 So what He\u2019s saying when He says \u201cIt is not good\u201d is He\u2019s really saying, \u201cI\u2019m not done yet.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI would suggest to you that Creation is not completed until the man and the woman have been created and then brought together, and this new oneness is created in marriage.\u00a0 The end of Creation is the wedding.\u00a0 The last thing God creates is a married couple.\u00a0 He\u2019s created the man, he\u2019s created the woman.\u00a0 But He\u2019s not done until He brings them together, and creates one out of two\u2014a \u201cone flesh\u201d creation.\u00a0 That\u2019s the pinnacle of God\u2019s creation.\u00a0 Once He\u2019s done, it\u2019s also the first place that the Enemy goes to attack.\u00a0 Let me suggest to you, today, the pattern has not changed.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe first place the Enemy wants to undermine and attack, in your life, is in your marriage.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because, in a unique way, you reflect the Trinitarian nature of God, he does not like that reflection.\u00a0 So he\u2019ll martial his forces to try to keep you from representing the oneness of God in your marriage.\u00a0 Do you see that?\u00a0 Do you see how critical this is to the plan of God?\u00a0 How essential it is to Creation.\u00a0 And how what the Enemy says when he comes in, in Genesis 3, is \u201cI\u2019m going to see if I can disrupt this relationship because I know that as soon as I can disrupt this relationship, the next thing that\u2019ll happen is this relationship is going to \u2018go south\u2019 real quick.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo you know the account.\u00a0 Eve is in the Garden.\u00a0 She\u2019s been told that there\u2019s this one tree in the middle of the garden, both the man and the woman\u2014have been told not to eat of this tree.\u00a0 The serpent comes in.\u00a0 He tempts her with, \u201cHas God really said?\u201d\u00a0 And she, by the way, I don\u2019t know if you noticed this, when she gives him what God has said, she adds to God\u2019s word.\u00a0 Have you ever noticed that?\u00a0 She said that \u201cGod said we shouldn\u2019t even touch it.\u201d\u00a0 Eve is the first legalist!\u00a0 Really!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe is adding something to God\u2019s word and taken it up a notch.\u00a0 Satan knows as soon as he\u2019s got her doing that, he\u2019s got her.\u00a0 So he says, \u201cOh, you won\u2019t die.\u00a0 You won\u2019t die, in fact you\u2019ll live.\u00a0 You\u2019ll be as smart as God.\u00a0 God just doesn\u2019t want you to be in control of your own life.\u00a0 Don\u2019t you want to be in control of your own life?\u201d\u00a0 When the woman saw that the fruit looked good to the eyes, it was the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life to make one wise unto salvation.\u00a0 She took it and she ate it, and she gave it to the man who was\u2026where?\u00a0 With her.\u00a0 Did you notice?\u00a0 Who does God come looking for at the end of this?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 Adam.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cAdam, where are you?\u201d\u00a0 Eve was tempted and fell.\u00a0 Adam was passive.\u00a0 And in his passivity, what Adam should have been doing was, \u201cSweetheart!\u00a0 Do not listen to that snake!\u00a0 What are you doing?\u00a0 No, no\u2026honey, no!\u00a0 Snake!\u00a0 Get out of here!\u201d\u00a0 He should have gone and gotten the axe, gone after the snake, and told his wife to go back and be quiet.\u00a0 Right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo God comes to hold Adam accountable for what has just happened to the human race.\u00a0 But notice this.\u00a0 They both start to feel guilt\u2014which they\u2019ve never felt before.\u00a0 So they hide themselves.\u00a0 They start to feel shame\u2014which they\u2019ve never felt before.\u00a0 So those who were naked and unashamed, now start to hide themselves with fig leaves from one another.\u00a0 And then the next thing they do when God comes and says, \u201cWhat happened here?\u201d\u00a0 Adam says, \u201cWell, she did it!\u00a0 It was the woman You gave me!\u00a0 I think You\u2019ve sent a defective model\u201d is what he\u2019s saying.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo God turns to the woman and He says, \u201cWhat happened here?\u201d\u00a0 And she says, \u201cWell, it was the snake.\u201d\u00a0 So there\u2019s this blame-shifting going on.\u00a0 There\u2019s no accountability.\u00a0 There\u2019s no repentance.\u00a0 There\u2019s no confession.\u00a0 There\u2019s just blaming. There\u2019s just pointing the finger elsewhere.\u00a0 God, graciously in the middle of that, performs the first sacrifice of animals\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tto provide animal skins for the man and the woman.\u00a0 And gives them the promise that the seed that comes from the woman\u2014that snake may bruise your heel, but that seed will crush his head.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHallelujah.\u00a0 That is Christ who is prefigured in Genesis 3, and the rest of the story is pointing to him and to the cross\u2014both before and after, until we reach the consummation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, there\u2019s something <em>so profound<\/em> going on in the garden, I want to make sure that you are aware of that.\u00a0 But I also want to go back to Adam, before the fall.\u00a0 Actually, I don\u2019t want to call it the fall, because it sounds too passive.\u00a0 Before the rebellion because that\u2019s what it was.\u00a0 Before the rebellion, Adam was in the garden, and God gave him an assignment to name the animals.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I don\u2019t know if you\u2019ve ever looked at Genesis 2 this carefully, but He says to Adam, \u201cIt\u2019s not good for man to be alone.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to make a helper suitable for him.\u201d\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t say that to Adam, He says it to Himself.\u00a0 And then He goes to Adam, and He says, \u201cI\u2019ve got a job for you.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to bring the animals by, and I\u2019m going to have you name them.\u201d\u00a0 So Adam says, \u201cOkay, whatever You say LORD.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo the animals come by, and God\u2014in show and tell time\u2014points out to Adam that what He\u2019s bringing by, there are two of each kind, that are kind of alike, but not exactly.\u00a0 So Adam is going, \u201cBuck and doe.\u00a0 Rooster and hen.\u201d\u00a0 You know, he\u2019s naming all the animals.\u00a0 Adam may not have been the smartest guy\u2014well I guess he was the smartest guy in the world, but\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(Laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut he was also the dumbest guy in the world, so we\u2019ll go with that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tPretty soon, it dawns on Adam as he\u2019s petting his golden retriever, who\u2019s got another golden retriever laying right next to him.\u00a0 He\u2019s going, \u201cWhere\u2019s mine?\u00a0 Where\u2019s mine?\u201d\u00a0 And God said, \u201cExactly.\u00a0 I wanted you to realize, Adam, that you needed something.\u00a0 I gave you this whole exercise, so that before I give you the gift, you recognize the need.\u00a0 You value what I\u2019m going to give to you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAdam realized he had the need, only after this animal naming exercise.\u00a0 So God causes Adam to fall into a deep sleep, the Bible says.\u00a0 And that\u2019s, by the way, why men snore and sleep as deeply as we do.\u00a0 It\u2019s the vestiges of the Garden still in us.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAdam falls into a deep sleep.\u00a0 God takes a rib from his side.\u00a0 He creates the woman.\u00a0 Creates Adam out of the dust of the ground, He creates the woman out of the bone of Adam\u2019s side.\u00a0 Then He wakes Adam up.\u00a0 And Adam looks---just after naming all the animals\u2014he looks at Eve and he says, \u201cThis\u2026this is now bone of my bone.\u00a0 Flesh of my flesh.\u00a0 There\u2019s one like me.\u00a0 She\u2019s different but she\u2019s like me.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then Adam names her, \u201cShe shall be called Ishah.\u00a0 She shall be called, \u2018Woman,\u2019 for she was taken out of the side of man.\u201d\u00a0 He thinks he\u2019s pretty clever because of his play on words\u2026he\u2019s Ish\u2026she\u2019s Ishah.\u00a0 I know a good name for her; we\u2019ll call her \u201cIshah\u201d for she is flesh of my flesh, bone of my bone.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe next thing that happens is God immediately gets them married.\u00a0 \u201cFor this cause man leaves father and mother, cleaves to his wife, the two become one flesh, and they were both naked and not ashamed.\u00a0 The reason He immediately got them married, is when you\u2019ve got two naked people in the garden, you want to get them married.\u00a0 So He gets that done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow listen.\u00a0 I believe that God intended for that husband\/wife, man\/woman relationship to reflect His glory.\u00a0 So why doesn\u2019t it?\u00a0 Well, we have to go to Genesis 3 to see that when things got corrupted between us and God, things got corrupted between one another.\u00a0 And conflict has entered the picture that was not there before.\u00a0 Why is there conflict in a marriage relationship?\u00a0 What causes the conflict to come?\u00a0 If we were\u2014as husband and wife\u2014in perfect unity, in perfect alignment; if we were as Philippians 2 says, \u201cof the same mind, having the same love, intent on one purpose.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIf we were that, would we have conflict?\u00a0 No, because we\u2019d be in agreement\u2014which is what God wants us to get to in marriage. But, we have conflict.\u00a0 Here\u2019s why we have conflict\u2014James 4:1.\u00a0 James asks, \u201cWhy is there conflict and fighting among you?\u201d\u00a0 He says, \u201cBecause your members (that is, inside you) there\u2019s a war going on.\u00a0 You want and you cannot have, so you murder.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou go, \u201cNow wait a second.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never murdered anybody.\u201d\u00a0 Jesus said, \u201cIf you look on someone with anger, you\u2019ve murdered them in your heart.\u201d\u00a0 Okay, now.\u00a0 How many murderers do we have in the room?\u00a0 We\u2019ve got a room full of murderers.\u00a0 And why do you murder?\u00a0 Because you want, and you don\u2019t get what you want.\u00a0 And that creates conflict. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo you take a man and a woman, who both want what they want.\u00a0 You put them together and say, \u201cNow, work it out.\u201d\u00a0 As long as they want what they want, and aren\u2019t getting what they want, then they murder each other.\u00a0 Satan delights because the picture of unity and agreement and alignment is broken.\u00a0 The image of God is marred in the world, so he is as happy as a clam when that happens.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat we\u2019re going to talk about here is some of the ways that conflict happens that are fueled by our differences.\u00a0 God made us different to complement one another.\u00a0 Sometimes our differences annoy one another.\u00a0 And we\u2019re going to look at some of what we\u2019ve observed as differences and see how that leads to conflict, and how it leads to marring the image of God.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to try and give you a list of about 10 things that I think are true for <em>most<\/em> men.\u00a0 There may be some of these that don\u2019t apply to your husband.\u00a0 This is for <em>most<\/em> men.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s the first thing.\u00a0 Your husband may not even realize, but it\u2019s true because the Bible says it\u2019s true.\u00a0 Your husband needs you to be a helper.\u00a0 He needs you to be a helper.\u00a0 God said to Adam, \u201cIt\u2019s not good for man to be alone.\u00a0 I will make a helper suitable.\u201d\u00a0 Now some of you may have, at some point in your life, recoiled at that term.\u00a0 Somebody coming along and calling you a helper.\u00a0 That just sounds second class, demeaning, and not very exalted, right?\u00a0 To call someone a helper, if you\u2019re in school, there\u2019s the teacher and the teacher\u2019s helper.\u00a0 Well, the teacher is the important one.\u00a0 The helper just gets the paste out when it\u2019s time for paste stuff, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you think to yourself, \u201cI don\u2019t want to be a helper.\u00a0 I want to be <em>somebody<\/em>.\u00a0 Helper doesn\u2019t sound like anybody.\u00a0 That same word, \u201cI will make a helper suitable for him,\u201d is found other places in the Bible, like \u201cGod is our <em>help<\/em> in time of need.\u00a0 Like Jesus saying, \u201cIt\u2019s good that I go away because if I go, I will send to you another helper.\u201d\u00a0 Who\u2019s he talking about?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 The Holy Spirit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Holy Spirit.\u00a0 When he says, \u201canother helper,\u201d who\u2019s the first one?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Audience:<\/strong>\u00a0 He is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Jesus.\u00a0 Father, Son, Holy Ghost identified Themselves to us as our Helpers.\u00a0 Is that a demeaning term?\u00a0 No.\u00a0 Is it an exalted term?\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 So why don\u2019t we like that term, helper?\u00a0 Because we\u2019ve got pride and pride wants us to be something better than that.\u00a0 Better than God.\u00a0 That\u2019s why Eve ate the fruit.\u00a0 Because the snake said, \u201cWhen you eat it, you won\u2019t have to depend on God anymore.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod calls you \u201chelper,\u201d you go, \u201cI\u2019d like to be called something a little more noble than that, God.\u201d\u00a0 Well, here\u2019s the thing.\u00a0 He calls you a helper, but the implication\u2026you\u2019re married to a guy who needs help.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe very fact that you are called a helper, means your husband needs help, whether he knows it or not.\u00a0 The great theologian, Rocky Balboa\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSome of you can go back to 1976.\u00a0 The \u201cBest Picture\u201d was Rocky 1.\u00a0 How many of you saw Rocky 1?\u00a0 Here\u2019s the great moment of theology that happens in Rocky 1.\u00a0 Rocky, you know, is kind of sweet on Adrian, right?\u00a0 She\u2019s shy and works at the pet shop.\u00a0 Rocky goes by, and he\u2019s kind of clumsy and awkward.\u00a0 It\u2019s just so cute to see them trying to like each other, and they can\u2019t, right?\u00a0 But, Adrian\u2019s brother, Pauly, is trying to protect his little sister.\u00a0 He knows Rocky is on the prowl, so he has this man-to-man talk with him at one applause)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThank you.\u00a0 Thank you very much.\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 Thank you.\u00a0 I\u2019ll have a dinner show tonight at six, and one at 10 pm.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tRocky says, \u201cI\u2026I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 Huh\u2026I got gaps.\u00a0 She got gaps.\u00a0 Together we got no gaps.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDo you know what theologian Balboa was saying there?\u00a0 Here\u2019s what he was saying, \u201cI need help.\u00a0 And she fills in where I need help.\u00a0 And together we got no gaps.\u201d\u00a0 Isn\u2019t that a beautiful picture?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, it is interesting to stop and think about our differences, and how they are fertile soil for there to be much marital discord.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No doubt.\u00a0 In fact it\u2019s our differences that attract us before we get married.\u00a0 And then after we\u2019re married\u2014it\u2019s like the magnets that couldn\u2019t stay away from each other?\u00a0 Somehow you turn them and all of a sudden you feel that\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 (laughing) The push back? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The repelling occurring?\u00a0 Well, that can happen in marriage.\u00a0 So you really have to take a step back and look to the One who gave you your spouse in the first place.\u00a0 And realize that your spouse\u2019s differences have a <em>divine purpose<\/em> in your life.\u00a0 Now, do you believe that?\u00a0 Sometimes it can be difficult to believe that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Especially when your spouse\u2019s weaknesses encroach on your needs or your wants, or how you\u2019re feeling.\u00a0 And that\u2019s why I think marriage is so redemptive.\u00a0 It forces us to be dependent upon God, and ask Him to empower us to be able to better love our spouses when they\u2019re not lovable\u2014when we don\u2019t want to.\u00a0 And you know what?\u00a0 Jesus Christ can give you the power and the ability to love another imperfect person.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And that kind of perspective alignment was what I was watching happen, as I spoke to the women at the workshop, at the True Woman conference, in Chattanooga.\u00a0 You could tell that some of these women were pulling back and just recalibrating and re-thinking the job that God has given them.\u00a0 The assignment He\u2019s given them to come alongside, to help, and complement and love and respect their husbands.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd let me quickly mention that there are going to be two more of these True Woman conferences coming up this fall.\u00a0 In September, there\u2019s going to be one in Indianapolis.\u00a0 And in October, there\u2019s one in Ft.
