she said yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Whoa \u2013 wait \u2013 wait!\u00a0 She said yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, I actually didn\u2019t ask her I just told her that\u2019s what we were going to do and she agreed.\u00a0 So, it made it pretty easy!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You were used to tackling people on the field.\u00a0 That\u2019s what you did with her didn\u2019t you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes don\u2019t get in my way on a pick I\u2019ll run you over. But, I knew if I did that I couldn\u2019t pursue because I was going to try to play in Europe and at that point they weren\u2019t paying like they do now so I knew I had to quit and get a job and be a real man instead of playing around.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>So, wait it\u2019s pro ball or marry somebody that you just met three days ago?\u00a0 I have to stop here and find out about this three-day relationship \u2013 how did you go from nice to meet you to will you marry me in three days?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I wish I could!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He\u2019s still trying to figure it out himself Bob!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Wondering what hit him!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, I\u2019m still wondering what happened to my wife during that time because she was out of her mind to even agree to it.\u00a0 But 28 years later I\u2019m thankful that she did!\u00a0 Yes, I don\u2019t know \u2013 I just knew she was the one.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>And she knew you were the one!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, exactly, and so she thought she was marrying a Christian.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>And you thought she was marrying a Christian, too.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Absolutely \u2013 I said a prayer, I got baptized, and I\u2019m saved; no big deal I can go on and live my life.\u00a0 I have the fire insurance taken care of.\u00a0 So, seven years into our marriage I was a really rotten husband to be blunt about it.\u00a0 I treated her very, very wrongly and she had a rough seven years.\u00a0 She could have divorced me maybe not on biblical grounds but just the way I treated her.\u00a0 Seven years into it I had some success as a fundraising sales rep and was doing very well as far as financially but really our marriage was just kind of existing unfortunately like a lot of marriages.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI started meeting with these guys everyday and they were studying the Bible.\u00a0 They were literally two hours a day, and they asked me to join them \u2013 I said, \u201cWell, I\u2019m a Christian, I don\u2019t need to join you.\u00a0 I just like hearing you read the word.\u00a0 You\u2019re in the restaurant I go to every morning.\u201d\u00a0 But I eventually started meeting with these guys, and within about a month and a half of that time I came to the realization that I was not saved.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor the first time in my life I understood what it meant that I am totally depraved, there is nothing good in me and I repented of my sins and in God\u2019s electing grace before the foundation of the world He brought that that he did before to fruition in time.\u00a0 I was saved and our marriage immediately changed but, my life had changed \u2013 there was a true radical transformation inside.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You know we\u2019re talking about how folks can go to the Weekend to Remember Marriage Conference here in the first couple weeks of January, and it\u2019s interesting that it was your marriage that kind of brought you to your knees and ultimately how you found your own need of Christ.\u00a0 Now, Tony for you as an actor did you grow up in the church or have a religious background?\u00a0 How did you come to faith in Christ?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I grew up in a non-religious home.\u00a0 I mean not to sound repetitive with Russ, but my experience is very similar.\u00a0 My family background is just riddled with divorce.\u00a0 As a matter of fact I\u2019m the only one in my family that is still married to the same person they said their vows to.\u00a0 You know, I met my wife when I was 14, as a matter of fact I tell my daughter all the time:\u00a0 She\u2019s 14 \u2013 I say, \u201cYou know I met your Mom when I was your age.\u201d\u00a0 She says, \u201cDad, that freaks me out!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I can\u2019t believe you\u2019re telling your daughter that!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, then I always tell her you know the circumstances are going to be different for you.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t a Christian then!\u00a0 But, we got married.\u00a0 Marriage scared me to death as a non-believer.\u00a0 I really loved my wife but I thought I\u2019m going to be just like my family.\u00a0 On average there are at least two marriages waiting for me.\u00a0 What I learned about my family background is that you don\u2019t change.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You thought that going in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 I mean the day you said your vows you thought well this probably the first of a couple.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I\u2019m destined for this because how can I change it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Had you talked to your wife about that?\u00a0 Did she know you had that attitude?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, she knew my background.\u00a0 She knew me since I was 14.\u00a0 Just to give you an example.\u00a0 Not to get too personal here but my grandfather was married three times.\u00a0 My grandmother was married five times.\u00a0 My uncle was married four times.\u00a0 My mother was married twice.\u00a0 My aunt was married three times.\u00a0 My stepfather was married twice.\u00a0 My real father was married five times.\u00a0 My brother has been divorced and remarried twice.\u00a0\u00a0 My other brother has been divorced and remarried.\u00a0 Literally it is just everywhere in my family.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo I thought I\u2019m no different than them.\u00a0 I told my wife before we got married, I said, I\u2019m scared to death because what\u2019s to change our future?\u00a0 You\u2019re marrying a guy like me.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to be just like them ten years down the road.\u00a0 Who knows when something will snap, or something will happen in my life, and I\u2019ll just either leave you or maybe I\u2019ll be a rotten husband.\u00a0 I\u2019ll just be selfish.\u00a0 It scared me to death.\u00a0 I mean I was not a Christian. At 25 or 26 the Lord saved me.\u00a0 He literally made all the difference.\u00a0 When Christ came into my life and literally defined me.\u00a0 He\u2019s made me the husband that I am today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He defined your marriage as well!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He defined my marriage as well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>What was it that brought you to a point of spiritual awareness?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Being raised in the Catholic church you know I was an altar boy and I really sort of got into that just being an altar boy because it was a position of responsibility and I enjoyed that.\u00a0 So, we used to hear certain things.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod has a sense of humor.\u00a0 He used a cultist actually to get me into the Bible.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Hold it \u2013 hold it \u2013 hold it!\u00a0 We\u2019ve had a lot of things admitted here on <em>FamilyLife Today <\/em>this is the first cultist we\u2019ve given credit to lead someone to Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>My wife was a friend of this girl, who was a Jehovah\u2019s Witness, and she came over to the house and I notice that she\u2019s kind of like talking to my wife and stuff.\u00a0 I said, \u201cWhat are you guys talking about?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 She said, \u201cOh, we\u2019re just doing a Bible study\u201d I said, \u201cOh, that\u2019s cool.\u201d She says, \u201cYeah we\u2019re looking at this stuff.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy wife\u2019s kind of looking at me going hey did you know that she\u2019s saying that Jesus isn\u2019t God and all that stuff?\u00a0 I said, \u201cOh, okay are you like a Mormon or a Jehovah\u2019s Witness, and she says, \u201cI\u2019m of the Watchtower.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cWell, I know that isn\u2019t right.\u00a0 I know Jesus is God.\u00a0 I know that much.\u201d She said, \u201cWell, that\u2019s wrong.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cThat\u2019s wrong \u2013 look,\u201d and I said, \u201cLook, I\u2019ll tell you what?\u00a0\u00a0 Give me about a week, and I\u2019ll get back to you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll I wanted to do was prove her wrong.\u00a0 I had no real interest in seeking the Lord or knowing Him at all.\u00a0 So, I got into my Bible, and the Lord opened my eyes.\u00a0 I started looking at things that I\u2019d never seen before and I was thinking not only is Jesus God but I want to know Him.\u00a0 I want to follow Him.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen I had a conversation with this girl, and I started telling her.\u00a0 All of a sudden she just didn\u2019t want to come around anymore.\u00a0 That\u2019s how God sort of got my nose in the scriptures, and opened my eyes, and opened my heart.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Did it happen with your wife at the same time?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes it did actually!\u00a0 God saved us both!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Wow \u2013 that\u2019s great!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>And you\u2019ve been married how long now?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>24 years!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You know we had a guest here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, I can\u2019t remember whom \u2013 Bob may recall but it seems like it was a woman who said, \u201cI grew up in such a family of divorce I thought divorce was hereditary.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cI\u2019m determined by the grace of God that\u2019s been given to me to stop the legacy of divorce in our marriage and in our family.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s what you\u2019re doing.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I mean all I can say is that Jesus has made all the difference.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>And the movie is all about that legacy, too.\u00a0 This is a cool movie about that.\u00a0 Well Brad how about you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, basically background wise it\u2019s <em>Fiddler on the Roof<\/em> \u2013 just Eastern European Russian Jewish that\u2019s pretty much my ancestry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Were you practicing Jews?\u00a0 Did you go to Hebrew school, did you learn the Torah growing up or were you observant on the high holy days, and the rest of the time it wasn\u2019t any big deal?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Definitely the latter.\u00a0 Yes, we definitely were not very religious \u2013 very cultural, very identity oriented, very be proud of your heritage and so on.\u00a0 That was really the scope of it.\u00a0 So, that really ironically didn\u2019t play a big role in my upbringing.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t until I began to explore the things of Christ where then it became an issue.\u00a0 Nobody cared leading up to that but once I began to ask about the carpenter then all of a sudden then it was important that I was practicing Jewish.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>So, to be a nominal Jew that\u2019s fine but to be a serious Christian isn\u2019t fine?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Correct!\u00a0 In my family!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>How did becoming a serious Christian show up on your radar screen?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, at an early age I found my way toward the entertainment industry both in mainly in front of the cameras \u2013 as a comedian, as an actor and kind of kept pursuing it.\u00a0 I met a friend who was also an actor.\u00a0 He was also an Elvis impersonator who was a very committed Christian.\u00a0 Russ has met him.\u00a0 Just a committed Christian:\u00a0 we called him evangElvis. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe\u2019s just this weird dichotomy guy.\u00a0 He walked into the room and he\u2019s got the hair and everything and I\u2019m going who is this guy\u2014A committed knowledgeable biblical Christian.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat he began to do was he began to talk to me about the Jewish history of the Bible.\u00a0 I knew nothing about it.\u00a0 I never knew Jesus was Jewish or that the writers of the scriptures were Jewish. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was something so separate but he really began to historically bridge the gap between Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and then the lineage through Christ.\u00a0 It was purely intellectual for me, but it was very, very fascinating, and I rather enjoyed it quite a bit.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, over a period of a couple years we became friends, and continued the relationship.\u00a0 Then in God\u2019s providence as an actor I landed a role\u2014a lead role playing a Christian missionary where basically the entire piece was my character sharing the faith with another character.\u00a0 Anthony - he was the only guy \u2013 Elvis \u2013 he was the only guy I knew who was a Christian.\u00a0 So, I took the script to Anthony.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>To get the language right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>To get the language right you know, and I\u2019m just literally watching him read the script.\u00a0 I\u2019m just kind of watching what\u2019s animating him.\u00a0 What\u2019s getting him excited, you know what\u2019s interesting to him, and then I just started to imitate Him, and I would ask him.\u00a0 To do the part I had to memorize scripture.\u00a0 I had to learn apologetics.\u00a0 I had to be able to articulate it, and to defend it, and to handle objections, and so on and so forth.\u00a0 So, I did the part, and after that Anthony and I parted ways and my life just collapsed.\u00a0 I got really heavy into drugs and alcohol \u2013 just my life for a couple years just gradually spiraled downward.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFast forward a couple years just in God\u2019s providence I bump into Anthony again.\u00a0 At this point my life was humbled enough \u2013 he had invited me to church many times in the past.\u00a0 This time you know I was pretty much on my last legs, I had nothing else to stand on and kind of similar to what these two gentlemen have been talking about you know my family \u2013 I love them dearly but you know unbelieving family.\u00a0 Divorce is rampant.\u00a0 A lot of problems, and so there wasn\u2019t that aspect of the model.\u00a0 Anyway when Anthony came back into my life I just needed something so I was eager to go to church with him.\u00a0\u00a0 I went to church with him and still about another year of cat and mouse with me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, just began to really study the scriptures, and for me it was really memorizing scripture.\u00a0 I just began to memorize just passages, and then books \u2013 just did so much memorization and would just go through life reciting the scriptures.\u00a0 Somewhere along the line the Lord just showed exceptional mercy to save me from that sinful state.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That\u2019s cool!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You know we started off here by hearing three great stories of redemption, and we told our listeners we were going to talk about this new movie that\u2019s coming out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, they have to know where it comes from \u2013 it\u2019s spiritual roots.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, that\u2019s the point.\u00a0 I think when you understand the worldview \u2013 the orientation of the folks who are behind the art it gives you a better understanding into what the story\u2019s about, what the motives are about, what the movies about.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe movie that\u2019s coming out is called:\u00a0 <em>No Greater Love<\/em>.\u00a0 It\u2019s actually going to premiere this weekend in churches all across the country, and then it arrives in stores on DVD on Tuesday.\u00a0 I guess we ought to ask the screenwriter to give us the synopsis of the story.\u00a0 It\u2019s a marriage story right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Sure!\u00a0 Basically you have two soul mates who grew up together \u2013 lifelong soul mates, childhood friends.\u00a0 At a young age they get married and by all accounts through all their friends they\u2019re going to be the lucky couple.\u00a0 They\u2019re going to be the ones that are going to make it. Everything just looks great.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Brad, do I need to warn you not to give away the punch of this story as a writer?\u00a0 Do I need to caution you about that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You really should \u2013 you really should!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I think he can handle this!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, that\u2019s it, and then the rest just happens.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\u00a0 The zany fun just kind of takes off!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>There\u2019s some interesting twists in this though seriously!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, well when the story begins you have this couple who were lifelong soul mates.\u00a0 Well, after marriage like so many I\u2019m sure can experience things don\u2019t quite go the way they had planned, and it becomes a rather violent household.\u00a0 Then, they have their first child and shortly after they have their first child the wife really falls onto some hard emotional times. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe don\u2019t really address that specifically in the movie but exactly what causes her demise but it leads to a very destructive and self-destructive lifestyle that she begins to lead which eventually leads to the ultimate unforgivable action, which is, she abandons her family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>She walks out of the marriage and disappears, and her husband Jeff \u2013 that\u2019s you Anthony in the movie right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He doesn\u2019t know where she is.\u00a0 Can\u2019t find her and he has a one year old baby, and he has to figure out how to get on with his life basically right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And Anthony I have to tell you I thought you did a marvelous job if I can say it this way of being angry.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t a cheesy fight.\u00a0 When you are in there arguing about your work and your priorities and she is disappointed this is taking place in families\u2014Christian families all across the country.\u00a0 I appreciate the way you as a team have put this together that it isn\u2019t some little sweet angry husband.\u00a0 He was ticked off and that could have been a part of her demise.\u00a0 That would be what I would say from watching it.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t love her and serve her and nourish her and cherish her.\u00a0 She fell apart because she didn\u2019t have anybody else to go to.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have to give Brad the credit on that because at certain times you get into a scene or something like that and everything is clicking but he said here is what we are going to do and just free wheel\u00a0 it and do it. As two actors you sort of connect with each other and bring each other to that place you have to go in order to get to that place emotionally.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now that would never have happened in your marriage however in the number of years you have been married right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong>\u00a0 Never.\u00a0 That is all I\u2019m saying.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s my story and I\u2019m sticking with it.\u00a0 Well, let me just jump ahead because the bulk of the movie takes place ten years following Heather\u2019s disappearance right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Are you really going to go there Bob?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Just enough so that listeners know.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s in the trailer Dennis.\u00a0 It\u2019s fair game.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So go ahead and tell them then.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s actually Russ\u2019 son Brandon Rice who came up with the germ of this story and it is brilliant.\u00a0 Basically we pick up the story ten years later.\u00a0\u00a0 Jeff has moved on and their son is now 11 and Heather is nowhere to be found.\u00a0 Jeff is befriended by a guy named Dave.\u00a0 I actually named him Dave Torrey because my friend is Tony Letorrey who led me to the Lord.\u00a0 There is trivia for your audience.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBasically Dave\u2019s son and Jeff\u2019s son are friends so with summer approaching Dave invites Jeff\u2019s son to come to a camp at their church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Kind of like vacation Bible school.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly.\u00a0 Jeff accepts and he and his son, Ethan\u2014Those are our two lead characters\u2014They are going to vacation Bible school at Dave\u2019s church played by Jay Underwood.\u00a0 They go to the camp and they have a great time and life seems to go on.\u00a0 Well, at the last day of camp we learn a surprise twist to our first big twist to the story that one of the camp helpers is his ex wife. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And at that point all of a sudden now there is the question of where is this relationship going to go?\u00a0 Is it going to reemerge?\u00a0 Jeff is considering marrying someone else at this point and we won\u2019t go much beyond that.\u00a0 There are still a few twists in the story even at this point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis is really your first film as a motion picture company right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>It\u2019s our first Christian film.\u00a0 We\u2019ve done some other stuff, kid\u2019s films, and stuff but this is our first Christian film.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>When you decided to do your first film did you know you wanted it to be a marriage story?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Silence!\u00a0 (laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBasically it happened like this \u2013we had just finished a kids TV pilot that didn\u2019t get picked up so anybody out there that wants a great TV show for kids we have one.\u00a0 We did this kid\u2019s TV pilot, and I wasn\u2019t content to just sit around, I think Brad wasn\u2019t either.\u00a0 So, I came into Brad\u2019s office one day, I just said, \u201cHey, let\u2019s make a movie, let\u2019s not just sit here.\u00a0 Let\u2019s make a Christian movie.\u201d\u00a0 We all agreed.\u00a0 There are four of us in the group, and so then we thought well what kind of story can we make? start?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Absolutely.\u00a0 I grew up in a home that was not a Christian home, and when I was in high school I said a prayer, got baptized, said I was a Christian.\u00a0 I was a basketball player in high school, I got a chance to play in college, played one year in college, and then had a chance to go on to pursue pro ball and in that process I happened to meet this young lady, and three days after I met her I asked her to marry me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Wait \u2013 three days?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Three days \u2013 yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You\u2019re a man of action aren\u2019t you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes\u00a0 - she said yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Whoa \u2013 wait \u2013 wait!\u00a0 She said yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, I actually didn\u2019t ask her I just told her that\u2019s what we were going to do and she agreed.\u00a0 So, it made it pretty easy!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You were used to tackling people on the field.\u00a0 That\u2019s what you did with her didn\u2019t you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes don\u2019t get in my way on a pick I\u2019ll run you over. But, I knew if I did that I couldn\u2019t pursue because I was going to try to play in Europe and at that point they weren\u2019t paying like they do now so I knew I had to quit and get a job and be a real man instead of playing around.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>So, wait it\u2019s pro ball or marry somebody that you just met three days ago?\u00a0 I have to stop here and find out about this three-day relationship \u2013 how did you go from nice to meet you to will you marry me in three days?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I wish I could!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He\u2019s still trying to figure it out himself Bob!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Wondering what hit him!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, I\u2019m still wondering what happened to my wife during that time because she was out of her mind to even agree to it.\u00a0 But 28 years later I\u2019m thankful that she did!\u00a0 Yes, I don\u2019t know \u2013 I just knew she was the one.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>And she knew you were the one!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, exactly, and so she thought she was marrying a Christian.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>And you thought she was marrying a Christian, too.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Absolutely \u2013 I said a prayer, I got baptized, and I\u2019m saved; no big deal I can go on and live my life.\u00a0 I have the fire insurance taken care of.\u00a0 So, seven years into our marriage I was a really rotten husband to be blunt about it.\u00a0 I treated her very, very wrongly and she had a rough seven years.\u00a0 She could have divorced me maybe not on biblical grounds but just the way I treated her.\u00a0 Seven years into it I had some success as a fundraising sales rep and was doing very well as far as financially but really our marriage was just kind of existing unfortunately like a lot of marriages.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI started meeting with these guys everyday and they were studying the Bible.\u00a0 They were literally two hours a day, and they asked me to join them \u2013 I said, \u201cWell, I\u2019m a Christian, I don\u2019t need to join you.\u00a0 I just like hearing you read the word.\u00a0 You\u2019re in the restaurant I go to every morning.\u201d\u00a0 But I eventually started meeting with these guys, and within about a month and a half of that time I came to the realization that I was not saved.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFor the first time in my life I understood what it meant that I am totally depraved, there is nothing good in me and I repented of my sins and in God\u2019s electing grace before the foundation of the world He brought that that he did before to fruition in time.\u00a0 I was saved and our marriage immediately changed but, my life had changed \u2013 there was a true radical transformation inside.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You know we\u2019re talking about how folks can go to the Weekend to Remember Marriage Conference here in the first couple weeks of January, and it\u2019s interesting that it was your marriage that kind of brought you to your knees and ultimately how you found your own need of Christ.\u00a0 Now, Tony for you as an actor did you grow up in the church or have a religious background?\u00a0 How did you come to faith in Christ?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I grew up in a non-religious home.\u00a0 I mean not to sound repetitive with Russ, but my experience is very similar.\u00a0 My family background is just riddled with divorce.\u00a0 As a matter of fact I\u2019m the only one in my family that is still married to the same person they said their vows to.\u00a0 You know, I met my wife when I was 14, as a matter of fact I tell my daughter all the time:\u00a0 She\u2019s 14 \u2013 I say, \u201cYou know I met your Mom when I was your age.\u201d\u00a0 She says, \u201cDad, that freaks me out!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I can\u2019t believe you\u2019re telling your daughter that!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, then I always tell her you know the circumstances are going to be different for you.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t a Christian then!\u00a0 But, we got married.\u00a0 Marriage scared me to death as a non-believer.\u00a0 I really loved my wife but I thought I\u2019m going to be just like my family.\u00a0 On average there are at least two marriages waiting for me.\u00a0 What I learned about my family background is that you don\u2019t change.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You thought that going in.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 I mean the day you said your vows you thought well this probably the first of a couple.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I\u2019m destined for this because how can I change it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Had you talked to your wife about that?\u00a0 Did she know you had that attitude?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, she knew my background.\u00a0 She knew me since I was 14.\u00a0 Just to give you an example.\u00a0 Not to get too personal here but my grandfather was married three times.\u00a0 My grandmother was married five times.\u00a0 My uncle was married four times.\u00a0 My mother was married twice.\u00a0 My aunt was married three times.\u00a0 My stepfather was married twice.\u00a0 My real father was married five times.\u00a0 My brother has been divorced and remarried twice.\u00a0\u00a0 My other brother has been divorced and remarried.\u00a0 Literally it is just everywhere in my family.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo I thought I\u2019m no different than them.\u00a0 I told my wife before we got married, I said, I\u2019m scared to death because what\u2019s to change our future?\u00a0 You\u2019re marrying a guy like me.\u00a0 I\u2019m going to be just like them ten years down the road.\u00a0 Who knows when something will snap, or something will happen in my life, and I\u2019ll just either leave you or maybe I\u2019ll be a rotten husband.\u00a0 I\u2019ll just be selfish.\u00a0 It scared me to death.\u00a0 I mean I was not a Christian. At 25 or 26 the Lord saved me.\u00a0 He literally made all the difference.\u00a0 When Christ came into my life and literally defined me.\u00a0 He\u2019s made me the husband that I am today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He defined your marriage as well!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He defined my marriage as well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>What was it that brought you to a point of spiritual awareness?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Being raised in the Catholic church you know I was an altar boy and I really sort of got into that just being an altar boy because it was a position of responsibility and I enjoyed that.\u00a0 So, we used to hear certain things.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGod has a sense of humor.\u00a0 He used a cultist actually to get me into the Bible.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Hold it \u2013 hold it \u2013 hold it!\u00a0 We\u2019ve had a lot of things admitted here on <em>FamilyLife Today <\/em>this is the first cultist we\u2019ve given credit to lead someone to Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>My wife was a friend of this girl, who was a Jehovah\u2019s Witness, and she came over to the house and I notice that she\u2019s kind of like talking to my wife and stuff.\u00a0 I said, \u201cWhat are you guys talking about?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 She said, \u201cOh, we\u2019re just doing a Bible study\u201d I said, \u201cOh, that\u2019s cool.\u201d She says, \u201cYeah we\u2019re looking at this stuff.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy wife\u2019s kind of looking at me going hey did you know that she\u2019s saying that Jesus isn\u2019t God and all that stuff?\u00a0 I said, \u201cOh, okay are you like a Mormon or a Jehovah\u2019s Witness, and she says, \u201cI\u2019m of the Watchtower.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cWell, I know that isn\u2019t right.\u00a0 I know Jesus is God.\u00a0 I know that much.\u201d She said, \u201cWell, that\u2019s wrong.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cThat\u2019s wrong \u2013 look,\u201d and I said, \u201cLook, I\u2019ll tell you what?\u00a0\u00a0 Give me about a week, and I\u2019ll get back to you.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll I wanted to do was prove her wrong.\u00a0 I had no real interest in seeking the Lord or knowing Him at all.\u00a0 So, I got into my Bible, and the Lord opened my eyes.\u00a0 I started looking at things that I\u2019d never seen before and I was thinking not only is Jesus God but I want to know Him.\u00a0 I want to follow Him.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen I had a conversation with this girl, and I started telling her.\u00a0 All of a sudden she just didn\u2019t want to come around anymore.\u00a0 That\u2019s how God sort of got my nose in the scriptures, and opened my eyes, and opened my heart.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Did it happen with your wife at the same time?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes it did actually!\u00a0 God saved us both!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Wow \u2013 that\u2019s great!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>And you\u2019ve been married how long now?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>24 years!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You know we had a guest here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>, I can\u2019t remember whom \u2013 Bob may recall but it seems like it was a woman who said, \u201cI grew up in such a family of divorce I thought divorce was hereditary.\u201d\u00a0 She said, \u201cI\u2019m determined by the grace of God that\u2019s been given to me to stop the legacy of divorce in our marriage and in our family.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s what you\u2019re doing.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I mean all I can say is that Jesus has made all the difference.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>And the movie is all about that legacy, too.\u00a0 This is a cool movie about that.\u00a0 Well Brad how about you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, basically background wise it\u2019s <em>Fiddler on the Roof<\/em> \u2013 just Eastern European Russian Jewish that\u2019s pretty much my ancestry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Were you practicing Jews?\u00a0 Did you go to Hebrew school, did you learn the Torah growing up or were you observant on the high holy days, and the rest of the time it wasn\u2019t any big deal?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Definitely the latter.\u00a0 Yes, we definitely were not very religious \u2013 very cultural, very identity oriented, very be proud of your heritage and so on.\u00a0 That was really the scope of it.\u00a0 So, that really ironically didn\u2019t play a big role in my upbringing.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t until I began to explore the things of Christ where then it became an issue.\u00a0 Nobody cared leading up to that but once I began to ask about the carpenter then all of a sudden then it was important that I was practicing Jewish.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>So, to be a nominal Jew that\u2019s fine but to be a serious Christian isn\u2019t fine?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Correct!\u00a0 In my family!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>How did becoming a serious Christian show up on your radar screen?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, at an early age I found my way toward the entertainment industry both in mainly in front of the cameras \u2013 as a comedian, as an actor and kind of kept pursuing it.\u00a0 I met a friend who was also an actor.\u00a0 He was also an Elvis impersonator who was a very committed Christian.\u00a0 Russ has met him.\u00a0 Just a committed Christian:\u00a0 we called him evangElvis. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe\u2019s just this weird dichotomy guy.\u00a0 He walked into the room and he\u2019s got the hair and everything and I\u2019m going who is this guy\u2014A committed knowledgeable biblical Christian.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat he began to do was he began to talk to me about the Jewish history of the Bible.\u00a0 I knew nothing about it.\u00a0 I never knew Jesus was Jewish or that the writers of the scriptures were Jewish. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was something so separate but he really began to historically bridge the gap between Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and then the lineage through Christ.\u00a0 It was purely intellectual for me, but it was very, very fascinating, and I rather enjoyed it quite a bit.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, over a period of a couple years we became friends, and continued the relationship.\u00a0 Then in God\u2019s providence as an actor I landed a role\u2014a lead role playing a Christian missionary where basically the entire piece was my character sharing the faith with another character.\u00a0 Anthony - he was the only guy \u2013 Elvis \u2013 he was the only guy I knew who was a Christian.\u00a0 So, I took the script to Anthony.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>To get the language right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>To get the language right you know, and I\u2019m just literally watching him read the script.\u00a0 I\u2019m just kind of watching what\u2019s animating him.\u00a0 What\u2019s getting him excited, you know what\u2019s interesting to him, and then I just started to imitate Him, and I would ask him.\u00a0 To do the part I had to memorize scripture.\u00a0 I had to learn apologetics.\u00a0 I had to be able to articulate it, and to defend it, and to handle objections, and so on and so forth.\u00a0 So, I did the part, and after that Anthony and I parted ways and my life just collapsed.\u00a0 I got really heavy into drugs and alcohol \u2013 just my life for a couple years just gradually spiraled downward.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFast forward a couple years just in God\u2019s providence I bump into Anthony again.\u00a0 At this point my life was humbled enough \u2013 he had invited me to church many times in the past.\u00a0 This time you know I was pretty much on my last legs, I had nothing else to stand on and kind of similar to what these two gentlemen have been talking about you know my family \u2013 I love them dearly but you know unbelieving family.\u00a0 Divorce is rampant.\u00a0 A lot of problems, and so there wasn\u2019t that aspect of the model.\u00a0 Anyway when Anthony came back into my life I just needed something so I was eager to go to church with him.\u00a0\u00a0 I went to church with him and still about another year of cat and mouse with me.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen, just began to really study the scriptures, and for me it was really memorizing scripture.\u00a0 I just began to memorize just passages, and then books \u2013 just did so much memorization and would just go through life reciting the scriptures.\u00a0 Somewhere along the line the Lord just showed exceptional mercy to save me from that sinful state.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That\u2019s cool!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You know we started off here by hearing three great stories of redemption, and we told our listeners we were going to talk about this new movie that\u2019s coming out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Well, they have to know where it comes from \u2013 it\u2019s spiritual roots.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, that\u2019s the point.\u00a0 I think when you understand the worldview \u2013 the orientation of the folks who are behind the art it gives you a better understanding into what the story\u2019s about, what the motives are about, what the movies about.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe movie that\u2019s coming out is called:\u00a0 <em>No Greater Love<\/em>.\u00a0 It\u2019s actually going to premiere this weekend in churches all across the country, and then it arrives in stores on DVD on Tuesday.\u00a0 I guess we ought to ask the screenwriter to give us the synopsis of the story.\u00a0 It\u2019s a marriage story right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Sure!\u00a0 Basically you have two soul mates who grew up together \u2013 lifelong soul mates, childhood friends.\u00a0 At a young age they get married and by all accounts through all their friends they\u2019re going to be the lucky couple.\u00a0 They\u2019re going to be the ones that are going to make it. Everything just looks great.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Brad, do I need to warn you not to give away the punch of this story as a writer?\u00a0 Do I need to caution you about that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>You really should \u2013 you really should!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I think he can handle this!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, that\u2019s it, and then the rest just happens.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\u00a0 The zany fun just kind of takes off!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>There\u2019s some interesting twists in this though seriously!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes, well when the story begins you have this couple who were lifelong soul mates.\u00a0 Well, after marriage like so many I\u2019m sure can experience things don\u2019t quite go the way they had planned, and it becomes a rather violent household.\u00a0 Then, they have their first child and shortly after they have their first child the wife really falls onto some hard emotional times. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe don\u2019t really address that specifically in the movie but exactly what causes her demise but it leads to a very destructive and self-destructive lifestyle that she begins to lead which eventually leads to the ultimate unforgivable action, which is, she abandons her family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>She walks out of the marriage and disappears, and her husband Jeff \u2013 that\u2019s you Anthony in the movie right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>He doesn\u2019t know where she is.\u00a0 Can\u2019t find her and he has a one year old baby, and he has to figure out how to get on with his life basically right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And Anthony I have to tell you I thought you did a marvelous job if I can say it this way of being angry.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t a cheesy fight.\u00a0 When you are in there arguing about your work and your priorities and she is disappointed this is taking place in families\u2014Christian families all across the country.\u00a0 I appreciate the way you as a team have put this together that it isn\u2019t some little sweet angry husband.\u00a0 He was ticked off and that could have been a part of her demise.\u00a0 That would be what I would say from watching it.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t love her and serve her and nourish her and cherish her.\u00a0 She fell apart because she didn\u2019t have anybody else to go to.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have to give Brad the credit on that because at certain times you get into a scene or something like that and everything is clicking but he said here is what we are going to do and just free wheel\u00a0 it and do it. As two actors you sort of connect with each other and bring each other to that place you have to go in order to get to that place emotionally.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Now that would never have happened in your marriage however in the number of years you have been married right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Anthony:<\/strong>\u00a0 Never.\u00a0 That is all I\u2019m saying.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s my story and I\u2019m sticking with it.\u00a0 Well, let me just jump ahead because the bulk of the movie takes place ten years following Heather\u2019s disappearance right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Are you really going to go there Bob?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Just enough so that listeners know.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s in the trailer Dennis.\u00a0 It\u2019s fair game.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So go ahead and tell them then.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s actually Russ\u2019 son Brandon Rice who came up with the germ of this story and it is brilliant.\u00a0 Basically we pick up the story ten years later.\u00a0\u00a0 Jeff has moved on and their son is now 11 and Heather is nowhere to be found.\u00a0 Jeff is befriended by a guy named Dave.\u00a0 I actually named him Dave Torrey because my friend is Tony Letorrey who led me to the Lord.\u00a0 There is trivia for your audience.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBasically Dave\u2019s son and Jeff\u2019s son are friends so with summer approaching Dave invites Jeff\u2019s son to come to a camp at their church.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Kind of like vacation Bible school.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Brad:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly.\u00a0 Jeff accepts and he and his son, Ethan\u2014Those are our two lead characters\u2014They are going to vacation Bible school at Dave\u2019s church played by Jay Underwood.\u00a0 They go to the camp and they have a great time and life seems to go on.\u00a0 Well, at the last day of camp we learn a surprise twist to our first big twist to the story that one of the camp helpers is his ex wife. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And at that point all of a sudden now there is the question of where is this relationship going to go?\u00a0 Is it going to reemerge?\u00a0 Jeff is considering marrying someone else at this point and we won\u2019t go much beyond that.\u00a0 There are still a few twists in the story even at this point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis is really your first film as a motion picture company right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>It\u2019s our first Christian film.\u00a0 We\u2019ve done some other stuff, kid\u2019s films, and stuff but this is our first Christian film.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>When you decided to do your first film did you know you wanted it to be a marriage story?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Russ:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Silence!\u00a0 (laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBasically it happened like this \u2013we had just finished a kids TV pilot that didn\u2019t get picked up so anybody out there that wants a great TV show for kids we have one.\u00a0 We did this kid\u2019s TV pilot, and I wasn\u2019t content to just sit around, I think Brad wasn\u2019t either.\u00a0 So, I came into Brad\u2019s office one day, I just said, \u201cHey, let\u2019s make a movie, let\u2019s not just sit here.\u00a0 Let\u2019s make a Christian movie.\u201d\u00a0 We all agreed.\u00a0 There are four of us in the group, and so then we thought well what kind of story can we make?
