I am supposed to enjoy life.\u00a0 Well, relationships don\u2019t work when it goes one way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I still knew the LORD; I knew that HE wanted more from me; I knew that I was not supposed to be dating this guy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had had so many broken relationships by the time I met Megan that life had started to become a drag.\u00a0 So, I had started to experiment with pot, pills, and before long I was just living a life of what they call \u201cFunctional Bent.\u201d\u00a0 I got up in the morning and I got high and I stayed high all day long because life was a party. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 But because I had followed my own desires and not night in the \u2018Rock-n-Roll \u2018 band.\u00a0 (Playing in all the clubs)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You grew up in Weatherford, Oklahoma \u2013 right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt<\/strong>:\u00a0 That\u2019s correct \u2013 I grew up in Weatherford, OK \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Which is not \u2013 kind of the \u2013 \u201cOpera capital of America.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, but they had a little play house 15 miles west in Clinton, OK.\u00a0 And I grew up spending evenings in the little Play house, a little community theater.\u00a0 Beautiful little slice of Americana.\u00a0 I grew up singing \u201cBrigadoon,\u201d\u00a0 \u201cSound of Music,\u201d\u00a0 \u201cOliver,\u201d and all that . . .\u00a0\u00a0 I grew up with Mom and Grandma who just loved musicals.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Musical Theater!\u00a0 Now there is a difference between that and singing . . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is a little bit more legitimate.\u00a0 There is a long way from \u201cElvis Presley\u2019!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But was it \u2018Rock\u2019 at that point, when you were doing \u2018Oliver\u2019 and those types of things? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well that was when I was 10 or 11.\u00a0 By the time I was 13, 14, 15, I started to get into \u2018Rock-n-Roll\u2019 \u2013 listening to \u201cGuns and Roses. \u201c\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, what you considered \u2018Rock-n-Roll?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 How well do you improvise on the spot?\u00a0 Because I am wondering about right now \u2013 - - give us a - - - more of a \u2018Rock- Opera\u2019 interpretation of\u00a0 \u201cThe Sound of Music,\u201d\u00a0 (Oh man!) \u2026 some song in there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 What was I wanting to do at one point?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 That \u2013 cats and the - - - you know - - - \u2018these are a few of my favorite things.\u2019\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 These are a few of my favorite things . . .\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 (Yeah Baby! )\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 You guys gotta \u2018Rock-it-up\u2019 a little bit.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I knew you could do it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Something like that! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And so, Megan, you are from Tyler, Texas? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 Born and raised in east Texas and I, too, \u2018came out of the womb\u2019 tap dancing for the doctor.\u00a0 As early as I can remember, I loved to sing, I loved to perform, and that was initially what drew us together; was our love for performing and our love, specifically for music, and the stage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You met in Oklahoma City?\u00a0 You were a college student there?\u00a0 Is that right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was!\u00a0 We didn\u2019t go to the same school, the same university, but I spent my summers doing \u201cSummer Stock\u201d!\u00a0\u00a0 Which is kind of musical theater \u2018boot camp.\u2018\u00a0 We were performing about five shows a summer, rehearsing one during the day \u2013 performing another at night.\u00a0\u00a0 At the ripe old age of 19 I thought I was pretty big stuff, doing professional theater.\u00a0 They brought Matt in to be \u2018Tommy\u2019 \u2013 the lead role of Tommy \u2013 in the Rock Opera \u201cThe Who\u2019s Tommy?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI have to tell you I was pretty impressed.\u00a0 He knew all of his lines.\u00a0 He had studied the songs and could sing them to where it sounded just like the album.\u00a0 But, I am pretty sure he knew how great he was!\u00a0 He was smug!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think in retrospect, I was the picture of overcompensation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Is that right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh sure!\u00a0 I mean I came into the theater wearing a shirt that said, \u201cChicks hate me!,\u201d\u00a0 dark sunglasses, and I thought I am going to come in here and blow these chorus girls out of the water.\u00a0 They are going to dig me!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She was 19 and you were \u2013 how old?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMatt:\u00a0 20 \u2013 21, something like that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So you thought you were pretty \u2018hot stuff\u2019? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 For sure\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you come in \u2013 they just tap you and asked, \u201cWould you like to be the lead of the musical?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had heard about it.\u00a0 I went in, dropped off some CD\u2019s, never did an audition, and they said, \u201coh you could do this.\u00a0 Please come.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got the (sort of) local celebrity status; we could put a couple of ads in and say \u2018here is Matt Magill from this band.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So Megan, immediately you fell at his feet and just became a worshiper.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I thought he was good looking, I thought he was easy on the eyes \u2013 for sure. But I noticed all the other girls doing that, just that, \u2018oo-oo-oo-ing and ah-ing\u2019 over him, and he didn\u2019t seem too interested in that.\u00a0 So I thought I\u2019d play it the other way.\u00a0 I think I told you right away that \u201cyou weren\u2019t that cool.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yeah!\u00a0 You did!\u00a0 And I found that very, very attractive!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 Now, where is GOD in all this? I mean, spiritually speaking, are we talking about a couple of lost young people at this point?\u00a0 Just starting your journey toward adult-hood?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, you know, I grew up in Weatherford, I grew up in a church, and I was there every Sunday.\u00a0 My parents were very involved, but I would say it was a little light, in that, it wasn\u2019t a church where I was constantly hearing the message of salvation.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t constantly hearing about sin and I wasn\u2019t hearing about Satan.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t aware of my depravity.\u00a0 I grew up thinking GOD loves me and I just need to go out there and enjoy life . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And conquer the world. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2026 and conquer the world, because GOD loves me.\u00a0 But, it wasn\u2019t an understanding of just how much GOD loved me and the sacrifice and the price that HE paid to win me to HIS heart.\u00a0 Truly, I hadn\u2019t understood that, I hadn\u2019t grasped that and I wasn\u2019t a Christian.\u00a0 I believed that I was, but I was deceived.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Had you grown up in the church as well?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had grown up in the church with a little bit of a different story.\u00a0 My parents came to Christ later in life, they had been married for 12 years, and they were in their mid-thirties.\u00a0 A couple had invited them to church and they just felt the grace of this particular community, this particular church, and accepted CHRIST as their Savior.\u00a0\u00a0 About six months after they became believers, they got pregnant with me.\u00a0 That was a wonderful thing, in that I heard about JESUS \u2013 it was a very real faith. We weren\u2019t just Sunday Christians.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0But there was always an inner struggle because like I said earlier, I was a performer.\u00a0 I enjoyed the spotlight.\u00a0 I am telling you guys, as a child, I was always trying to figure out how I could please the LORD and how I could please man.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 How you could keep the spotlight on you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 You got it! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And have Jesus along for the ride?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right!\u00a0 And as parents that was difficult, because they were very encouraging of my gifts, but by the time I got into high school, I had begun making little compromises, after little compromises and soon they were bigger compromises.\u00a0 So that by the time I met Matt when I was 19 years old, I was feeling pretty, \u201cback-slidden,\u201d if I can use that term.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI still knew the Lord; I knew that HE wanted more from me; I knew that I was not supposed to be dating this guy.\u00a0\u00a0 I knew that he was probably my parents\u2019 worst nightmare.\u00a0 But because I wasn\u2019t walking with HIM, because I had followed my own desires and not clung to what I knew to be true, I was in a bad spot.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt: <\/strong>\u00a0I was the same way.\u00a0 I thought I was GOD\u2019s gift to the world.\u00a0 And I grew up thinking life\u2019s a party.\u00a0 I am just supposed to enjoy life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, relationships don\u2019t work when it goes one way.\u00a0 I had had so many broken relationships by the time I met Megan, life was starting to become a drag.\u00a0 That started to reveal and create a crater in me.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd remember, I am living with the theology of happy.\u00a0 So I have to stay happy!\u00a0 So, I had started to experiment with pot, pills, and before long I was just living a life of what they call, \u201cFunctional Bent.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 I got up in the morning and I got high and I stayed high all day long because life was a party.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Was this going on at the time you met Megan? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 It was!\u00a0 You\u2019re living a truly duplicitous life in that, I was putting on one face, but I was deeply crippled.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you know that the cute boy was also smoking dope and taking pills?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I did!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But you were still drawn to him?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was still drawn to him and I did think that if he just knew Jesus . . .\u00a0 now keep in mind . . . you have to wonder, does she even know Jesus?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh yeah!\u00a0 Because we were smoking pot and having sex . . . It\u2019s like, here she is telling me that, \u201cI need to become a Christian,\u201d I was saying, \u201cyou look just like me.\u00a0 What\u2019s the difference?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She loves the spotlight, you love yourself, and here are two people who are somehow getting along with each other in the midst of ego being on the throne.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 You got it! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So how long from this point until you said, \u201cWe ought to combine our dysfunctions and make a marriage out of this?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you cohabit? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 We did not!\u00a0 No!\u00a0\u00a0 Because keep in mind, even though I was not walking with the Lord, I had a lot of \u2018do\u2018s and don\u2019ts\u2018(morals).\u00a0 I was raised in this Baptist church from Kindergarten through the 8<sup>th<\/sup> grade and I was in an evangelical private Christian school.\u00a0 I knew better.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So you had your standards, \u201cI may be smoking dope with my boyfriend and sleeping with him, but he is not going to move in.\u201d\u00a0 Right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s where you were truly duplicitous and it started to affect you physically, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 It did!\u00a0 I was physically ill.\u00a0 Because when you are living a double life, when you are trying to serve two masters, it can take its toll on you a number of ways.\u00a0 For me it worked itself out physically.\u00a0 I was just always was kind of sick to my stomach. Because I knew that I was being rebellious.\u00a0 I knew I was being disobedient.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So why did you get married?\u00a0 I mean here you have everything that you know???\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Hey listen, after I graduated, I moved out to Georgia went to intern for Capricorn Records.\u00a0 I was living with some guys, growing weed in their attic.\u00a0 I was playing with some rock stars and hanging out and just going further down.\u00a0 I got into crystal meth.\u00a0 And just different bad news things.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe was finishing up her senior year and she got involved with a Beth Moore study.\u00a0 Away from my influence she starts going to another church.\u00a0 She calling me back and saying, \u2018you\u2019re in a bad place.\u2019\u00a0 We are still talking on the phone; obviously, because we are dating and you\u2019re telling me things like . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 You need Jesus!\u00a0 And he is saying, we have dated for two and half years, you have always kind of talked about God, and \u201cam I saved?\u00a0 Have I accepted Christ as my Savior?\u201d\u00a0 But now, like he said, he is in a different state.\u00a0 I can remember a very specific moment where I was literally just on the floor on my face.\u00a0 And God said, now is the time, little girl, you have got to get right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was calling him in Georgia and saying, \u201cOkay, if we are going to stay together, if we are going to give it a go at this, things have got to change.\u201d\u00a0 And like he said he is going further and further and spiraling down.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI get this opportunity to go work on a cruise ship; to sing and dance on a cruise ship.\u00a0 As I am going through the audition process and I get hired and as I was looking at a script in the show, I noticed they still needed another male singer that is going to do the Rock-n-Roll part of the show.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 So she calls me and she says, \u201cLook, you are not doing anything out there but getting high all day and going nowhere, if you will leave all that behind . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I will get you a job on this cruise ship.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Shave the beard. Get on the cruise ship.\u00a0 And here we are going to ports of call through the Caribbean, and we are singing musical theater.\u00a0 Now, all of a sudden, I am back to the theater, doing this on a cruise ship . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 And the irony was, it should have been the most fantastic kind of adventure of our young lives.\u00a0 Here we are going to these beautiful exotic locations; getting to sing and dance for all of these passengers, getting great money, but we were fighting like cats and dogs.\u00a0 I was trying to get him to do a Bible study and he is reading . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I don\u2019t know...all kinds of liberal theology.\u00a0 I am running off into the islands with Rastafarian, getting high.\u00a0 It was just nutty.\u00a0 We were arguing day and night.\u00a0 We had some like Titanic moments on the deck in the middle of the night.\u00a0 Arguing!\u00a0 What are you going to do?\u00a0 Are going to get your life right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut in the midst of that I was realizing that somehow God has given me a gift.\u00a0 He had given me Megan.\u00a0\u00a0 Because in the midst of all that I was doing; all that I was good and mostly bad, that she was having to deal with me in my selfishness.\u00a0 I was experiencing grace.\u00a0 I was experiencing grace from her.\u00a0 I was saying, she was engaged and she wanted more from me than I even wanted from myself and that calling to relationship.\u00a0 I was starting to open my eyes to this slowly, very slowly, right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Very slowly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Because I am having to undo a lot of half-truths in my own walk.\u00a0 We got off the ship. She went to Texas.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 He proposed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I proposed \u2013 out of nowhere.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I said \u2018Yes!\u2019\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 She said, \u2018yes\u2019 \u2013 and we got married.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we went through some pre-marital counseling. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think that planted the seeds.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I confess I knew what I needed to say to get through that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you think he had had a spiritual transformation in his life?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, this\u2026\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was wishful thinking right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, this is going to show where I was at.\u00a0\u00a0 I was okay with him just giving the right answers.\u00a0 Oh!\u00a0 That just breaks my heart to even admit.\u00a0 But at that point, I was satisfied with him giving the lip service.\u00a0 I guess I was just praying that God would be merciful and at some point make that \u2018lip service\u2019 a true transformation of the heart.\u00a0 No!\u00a0 I did not think he had truly accepted Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well Megan, you have to know, everyday there are thousands of young women who know better.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Or young men who know better, who are okay with the right answers, because there is such a longing in their heart for a relationship; such a longing in their hearts for intimacy.\u00a0 If we can just get the right answers, then we can have what we have always wanted.\u00a0 I mean we see this as we talk to engaged couples at the Weekend to Remember marriage conference.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou have talked to know that that desire can be so overwhelming in the life of a single person \u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It can become an idol.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That you are willing to take a lukewarm, half-hearted, lip service to Christianity and say \u201cwell that\u2019s it \u2013 we are okay now \u2013 right?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 And the real danger here is that Megan was involved physically, emotionally, with Matt and \u2026 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That clouds everything!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I am telling you, as a father, one of the things I constantly warned both my sons and daughters about was that after you give yourself to someone, you don\u2019t think objectively.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 That is true!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You have to protect and create boundaries in a relationship so that you can ultimately hear the voice of God.\u00a0 I used to say to my kids is when you get involved sexually it is like the orchestra warming up with the drums.\u00a0 Whatever follows next you never hear, because the drums completely mask the flute, the oboes, the violins, whatever\u2026\u00a0 But, you start with the lighter instruments, as you warm up the symphony.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat is what a relationship was meant to be.\u00a0 It was meant to start getting to know another person, finding out about their values, finding out about what is the center of their lives, who is the center of their live, is it themselves or is it Christ, and how those choices are demonstrated by what we choose and what we live, and what we serve.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You and I have both talked to a lot of couples over the years who have attended the Weekend to Remember Marriage Conference and there are engaged couples, and they are struggling at this very point, because their relationship has gotten clouded with what is going on physically.\u00a0 We talk to them about the need to blow the fog away by committing to purity in their relationship no matter what they have been doing up until that point.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMake a commitment to be pure until they arrive at the altar and say \u201cI do.\u201d\u00a0 It does help uncloud some of the cloudiness of the engagement period.\u00a0 For some of those couples it means that the relationship is over.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut that is okay, because we would rather see couples come to the Weekend to Remember as an engaged couples and decide not to marry, then to come back a few years later, having married, and now they are trying to deal with some of the relational struggles that should have Matt, I was feeling pretty \u201cbackslidden\u201d if I can use that term,\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I grew up thinking that life\u2019s a party; I am supposed to enjoy life.\u00a0 Well, relationships don\u2019t work when it goes one way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I still knew the LORD; I knew that HE wanted more from me; I knew that I was not supposed to be dating this guy.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had had so many broken relationships by the time I met Megan that life had started to become a drag.\u00a0 So, I had started to experiment with pot, pills, and before long I was just living a life of what they call \u201cFunctional Bent.\u201d\u00a0 I got up in the morning and I got high and I stayed high all day long because life was a party. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 But because I had followed my own desires and not clung to what I knew to (Yes)\u00a0 They have been married for 8 years.\u00a0 They have a new little daughter who is 7 months old.\u00a0 And they have a ministry that is a unique ministry \u2013 a relational ministry \u2013 night in the \u2018Rock-n-Roll \u2018 band.\u00a0 (Playing in all the clubs)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You grew up in Weatherford, Oklahoma \u2013 right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt<\/strong>:\u00a0 That\u2019s correct \u2013 I grew up in Weatherford, OK \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Which is not \u2013 kind of the \u2013 \u201cOpera capital of America.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, but they had a little play house 15 miles west in Clinton, OK.\u00a0 And I grew up spending evenings in the little Play house, a little community theater.\u00a0 Beautiful little slice of Americana.\u00a0 I grew up singing \u201cBrigadoon,\u201d\u00a0 \u201cSound of Music,\u201d\u00a0 \u201cOliver,\u201d and all that . . .\u00a0\u00a0 I grew up with Mom and Grandma who just loved musicals.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Musical Theater!\u00a0 Now there is a difference between that and singing . . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 It is a little bit more legitimate.\u00a0 There is a long way from \u201cElvis Presley\u2019!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But was it \u2018Rock\u2019 at that point, when you were doing \u2018Oliver\u2019 and those types of things? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well that was when I was 10 or 11.\u00a0 By the time I was 13, 14, 15, I started to get into \u2018Rock-n-Roll\u2019 \u2013 listening to \u201cGuns and Roses. \u201c\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, what you considered \u2018Rock-n-Roll?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 How well do you improvise on the spot?\u00a0 Because I am wondering about right now \u2013 - - give us a - - - more of a \u2018Rock- Opera\u2019 interpretation of\u00a0 \u201cThe Sound of Music,\u201d\u00a0 (Oh man!) \u2026 some song in there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 What was I wanting to do at one point?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 That \u2013 cats and the - - - you know - - - \u2018these are a few of my favorite things.\u2019\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 These are a few of my favorite things . . .\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 (Yeah Baby! )\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 You guys gotta \u2018Rock-it-up\u2019 a little bit.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I knew you could do it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Something like that! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 And so, Megan, you are from Tyler, Texas? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 Born and raised in east Texas and I, too, \u2018came out of the womb\u2019 tap dancing for the doctor.\u00a0 As early as I can remember, I loved to sing, I loved to perform, and that was initially what drew us together; was our love for performing and our love, specifically for music, and the stage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You met in Oklahoma City?\u00a0 You were a college student there?\u00a0 Is that right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was!\u00a0 We didn\u2019t go to the same school, the same university, but I spent my summers doing \u201cSummer Stock\u201d!\u00a0\u00a0 Which is kind of musical theater \u2018boot camp.\u2018\u00a0 We were performing about five shows a summer, rehearsing one during the day \u2013 performing another at night.\u00a0\u00a0 At the ripe old age of 19 I thought I was pretty big stuff, doing professional theater.\u00a0 They brought Matt in to be \u2018Tommy\u2019 \u2013 the lead role of Tommy \u2013 in the Rock Opera \u201cThe Who\u2019s Tommy?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI have to tell you I was pretty impressed.\u00a0 He knew all of his lines.\u00a0 He had studied the songs and could sing them to where it sounded just like the album.\u00a0 But, I am pretty sure he knew how great he was!\u00a0 He was smug!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think in retrospect, I was the picture of overcompensation. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Is that right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh sure!\u00a0 I mean I came into the theater wearing a shirt that said, \u201cChicks hate me!,\u201d\u00a0 dark sunglasses, and I thought I am going to come in here and blow these chorus girls out of the water.\u00a0 They are going to dig me!\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She was 19 and you were \u2013 how old?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMatt:\u00a0 20 \u2013 21, something like that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So you thought you were pretty \u2018hot stuff\u2019? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 For sure\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And you come in \u2013 they just tap you and asked, \u201cWould you like to be the lead of the musical?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had heard about it.\u00a0 I went in, dropped off some CD\u2019s, never did an audition, and they said, \u201coh you could do this.\u00a0 Please come.\u00a0 You\u2019ve got the (sort of) local celebrity status; we could put a couple of ads in and say \u2018here is Matt Magill from this band.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So Megan, immediately you fell at his feet and just became a worshiper.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 You know, I thought he was good looking, I thought he was easy on the eyes \u2013 for sure. But I noticed all the other girls doing that, just that, \u2018oo-oo-oo-ing and ah-ing\u2019 over him, and he didn\u2019t seem too interested in that.\u00a0 So I thought I\u2019d play it the other way.\u00a0 I think I told you right away that \u201cyou weren\u2019t that cool.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yeah!\u00a0 You did!\u00a0 And I found that very, very attractive!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wow!\u00a0 Now, where is GOD in all this? I mean, spiritually speaking, are we talking about a couple of lost young people at this point?\u00a0 Just starting your journey toward adult-hood?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, you know, I grew up in Weatherford, I grew up in a church, and I was there every Sunday.\u00a0 My parents were very involved, but I would say it was a little light, in that, it wasn\u2019t a church where I was constantly hearing the message of salvation.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t constantly hearing about sin and I wasn\u2019t hearing about Satan.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t aware of my depravity.\u00a0 I grew up thinking GOD loves me and I just need to go out there and enjoy life . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And conquer the world. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2026 and conquer the world, because GOD loves me.\u00a0 But, it wasn\u2019t an understanding of just how much GOD loved me and the sacrifice and the price that HE paid to win me to HIS heart.\u00a0 Truly, I hadn\u2019t understood that, I hadn\u2019t grasped that and I wasn\u2019t a Christian.\u00a0 I believed that I was, but I was deceived.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Had you grown up in the church as well?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had grown up in the church with a little bit of a different story.\u00a0 My parents came to Christ later in life, they had been married for 12 years, and they were in their mid-thirties.\u00a0 A couple had invited them to church and they just felt the grace of this particular community, this particular church, and accepted CHRIST as their Savior.\u00a0\u00a0 About six months after they became believers, they got pregnant with me.\u00a0 That was a wonderful thing, in that I heard about JESUS \u2013 it was a very real faith. We weren\u2019t just Sunday Christians.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0But there was always an inner struggle because like I said earlier, I was a performer.\u00a0 I enjoyed the spotlight.\u00a0 I am telling you guys, as a child, I was always trying to figure out how I could please the LORD and how I could please man.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 How you could keep the spotlight on you?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 You got it! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 And have Jesus along for the ride?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s right!\u00a0 And as parents that was difficult, because they were very encouraging of my gifts, but by the time I got into high school, I had begun making little compromises, after little compromises and soon they were bigger compromises.\u00a0 So that by the time I met Matt when I was 19 years old, I was feeling pretty, \u201cback-slidden,\u201d if I can use that term.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI still knew the Lord; I knew that HE wanted more from me; I knew that I was not supposed to be dating this guy.\u00a0\u00a0 I knew that he was probably my parents\u2019 worst nightmare.\u00a0 But because I wasn\u2019t walking with HIM, because I had followed my own desires and not clung to what I knew to be true, I was in a bad spot.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt: <\/strong>\u00a0I was the same way.\u00a0 I thought I was GOD\u2019s gift to the world.\u00a0 And I grew up thinking life\u2019s a party.\u00a0 I am just supposed to enjoy life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, relationships don\u2019t work when it goes one way.\u00a0 I had had so many broken relationships by the time I met Megan, life was starting to become a drag.\u00a0 That started to reveal and create a crater in me.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd remember, I am living with the theology of happy.\u00a0 So I have to stay happy!\u00a0 So, I had started to experiment with pot, pills, and before long I was just living a life of what they call, \u201cFunctional Bent.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 I got up in the morning and I got high and I stayed high all day long because life was a party.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Was this going on at the time you met Megan? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 It was!\u00a0 You\u2019re living a truly duplicitous life in that, I was putting on one face, but I was deeply crippled.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you know that the cute boy was also smoking dope and taking pills?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I did!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But you were still drawn to him?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I was still drawn to him and I did think that if he just knew Jesus . . .\u00a0 now keep in mind . . . you have to wonder, does she even know Jesus?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh yeah!\u00a0 Because we were smoking pot and having sex . . . It\u2019s like, here she is telling me that, \u201cI need to become a Christian,\u201d I was saying, \u201cyou look just like me.\u00a0 What\u2019s the difference?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 She loves the spotlight, you love yourself, and here are two people who are somehow getting along with each other in the midst of ego being on the throne.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 You got it! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So how long from this point until you said, \u201cWe ought to combine our dysfunctions and make a marriage out of this?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you cohabit? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 We did not!\u00a0 No!\u00a0\u00a0 Because keep in mind, even though I was not walking with the Lord, I had a lot of \u2018do\u2018s and don\u2019ts\u2018(morals).\u00a0 I was raised in this Baptist church from Kindergarten through the 8<sup>th<\/sup> grade and I was in an evangelical private Christian school.\u00a0 I knew better.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So you had your standards, \u201cI may be smoking dope with my boyfriend and sleeping with him, but he is not going to move in.\u201d\u00a0 Right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Absolutely!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s where you were truly duplicitous and it started to affect you physically, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 It did!\u00a0 I was physically ill.\u00a0 Because when you are living a double life, when you are trying to serve two masters, it can take its toll on you a number of ways.\u00a0 For me it worked itself out physically.\u00a0 I was just always was kind of sick to my stomach. Because I knew that I was being rebellious.\u00a0 I knew I was being disobedient.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So why did you get married?\u00a0 I mean here you have everything that you know???\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Hey listen, after I graduated, I moved out to Georgia went to intern for Capricorn Records.\u00a0 I was living with some guys, growing weed in their attic.\u00a0 I was playing with some rock stars and hanging out and just going further down.\u00a0 I got into crystal meth.\u00a0 And just different bad news things.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tShe was finishing up her senior year and she got involved with a Beth Moore study.\u00a0 Away from my influence she starts going to another church.\u00a0 She calling me back and saying, \u2018you\u2019re in a bad place.\u2019\u00a0 We are still talking on the phone; obviously, because we are dating and you\u2019re telling me things like . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 You need Jesus!\u00a0 And he is saying, we have dated for two and half years, you have always kind of talked about God, and \u201cam I saved?\u00a0 Have I accepted Christ as my Savior?\u201d\u00a0 But now, like he said, he is in a different state.\u00a0 I can remember a very specific moment where I was literally just on the floor on my face.\u00a0 And God said, now is the time, little girl, you have got to get right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was calling him in Georgia and saying, \u201cOkay, if we are going to stay together, if we are going to give it a go at this, things have got to change.\u201d\u00a0 And like he said he is going further and further and spiraling down.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI get this opportunity to go work on a cruise ship; to sing and dance on a cruise ship.\u00a0 As I am going through the audition process and I get hired and as I was looking at a script in the show, I noticed they still needed another male singer that is going to do the Rock-n-Roll part of the show.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 So she calls me and she says, \u201cLook, you are not doing anything out there but getting high all day and going nowhere, if you will leave all that behind . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I will get you a job on this cruise ship.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Shave the beard. Get on the cruise ship.\u00a0 And here we are going to ports of call through the Caribbean, and we are singing musical theater.\u00a0 Now, all of a sudden, I am back to the theater, doing this on a cruise ship . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 And the irony was, it should have been the most fantastic kind of adventure of our young lives.\u00a0 Here we are going to these beautiful exotic locations; getting to sing and dance for all of these passengers, getting great money, but we were fighting like cats and dogs.\u00a0 I was trying to get him to do a Bible study and he is reading . . . \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I don\u2019t know...all kinds of liberal theology.\u00a0 I am running off into the islands with Rastafarian, getting high.\u00a0 It was just nutty.\u00a0 We were arguing day and night.\u00a0 We had some like Titanic moments on the deck in the middle of the night.\u00a0 Arguing!\u00a0 What are you going to do?\u00a0 Are going to get your life right?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut in the midst of that I was realizing that somehow God has given me a gift.\u00a0 He had given me Megan.\u00a0\u00a0 Because in the midst of all that I was doing; all that I was good and mostly bad, that she was having to deal with me in my selfishness.\u00a0 I was experiencing grace.\u00a0 I was experiencing grace from her.\u00a0 I was saying, she was engaged and she wanted more from me than I even wanted from myself and that calling to relationship.\u00a0 I was starting to open my eyes to this slowly, very slowly, right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Very slowly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Because I am having to undo a lot of half-truths in my own walk.\u00a0 We got off the ship. She went to Texas.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 He proposed.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I proposed \u2013 out of nowhere.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I said \u2018Yes!\u2019\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 She said, \u2018yes\u2019 \u2013 and we got married.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, we went through some pre-marital counseling. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think that planted the seeds.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 I confess I knew what I needed to say to get through that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you think he had had a spiritual transformation in his life?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, this\u2026\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Matt:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was wishful thinking right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well, this is going to show where I was at.\u00a0\u00a0 I was okay with him just giving the right answers.\u00a0 Oh!\u00a0 That just breaks my heart to even admit.\u00a0 But at that point, I was satisfied with him giving the lip service.\u00a0 I guess I was just praying that God would be merciful and at some point make that \u2018lip service\u2019 a true transformation of the heart.\u00a0 No!\u00a0 I did not think he had truly accepted Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Well Megan, you have to know, everyday there are thousands of young women who know better.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Or young men who know better, who are okay with the right answers, because there is such a longing in their heart for a relationship; such a longing in their hearts for intimacy.\u00a0 If we can just get the right answers, then we can have what we have always wanted.\u00a0 I mean we see this as we talk to engaged couples at the Weekend to Remember marriage conference.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou have talked to know that that desire can be so overwhelming in the life of a single person \u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It can become an idol.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That you are willing to take a lukewarm, half-hearted, lip service to Christianity and say \u201cwell that\u2019s it \u2013 we are okay now \u2013 right?\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 And the real danger here is that Megan was involved physically, emotionally, with Matt and \u2026 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 That clouds everything!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I am telling you, as a father, one of the things I constantly warned both my sons and daughters about was that after you give yourself to someone, you don\u2019t think objectively.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Megan:<\/strong>\u00a0 That is true!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You have to protect and create boundaries in a relationship so that you can ultimately hear the voice of God.\u00a0 I used to say to my kids is when you get involved sexually it is like the orchestra warming up with the drums.\u00a0 Whatever follows next you never hear, because the drums completely mask the flute, the oboes, the violins, whatever\u2026\u00a0 But, you start with the lighter instruments, as you warm up the symphony.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat is what a relationship was meant to be.\u00a0 It was meant to start getting to know another person, finding out about their values, finding out about what is the center of their lives, who is the center of their live, is it themselves or is it Christ, and how those choices are demonstrated by what we choose and what we live, and what we serve.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You and I have both talked to a lot of couples over the years who have attended the Weekend to Remember Marriage Conference and there are engaged couples, and they are struggling at this very point, because their relationship has gotten clouded with what is going on physically.\u00a0 We talk to them about the need to blow the fog away by committing to purity in their relationship no matter what they have been doing up until that point.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMake a commitment to be pure until they arrive at the altar and say \u201cI do.\u201d\u00a0 It does help uncloud some of the cloudiness of the engagement period.\u00a0 For some of those couples it means that the relationship is over.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut that is okay, because we would rather see couples come to the Weekend to Remember as an engaged couples and decide not to marry, then to come back a few years later, having married, and now they are trying to deal with some of the relational struggles that should have
