So the answer to your question is absolutely.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 You did start to wonder I might be single for a while?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u00a0 I really did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But there is a difference with a guy who wonders that and a young lady who wonders that, isn\u2019t there?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, yes.\u00a0 There is a huge difference because a guy can do something about it in terms of pursuing a young lady.\u00a0 Now I know there would be those in this culture who would say well, so can young ladies.\u00a0 We live in a liberated age. Well, to the young ladies who pursue a man in order to get one and they take over the relationship and they become the leader.\u00a0 If they catch the guy after they\u2019ve caught him they are going to be happy with what they\u2019ve caught.\u00a0 No doubt about it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn fact let\u2019s ask our guest here on <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>.\u00a0 Carolyn Leutwiler who has a little experience on this.\u00a0 She\u2019s written a book called Singleness Redefined.\u00a0 She lives in Manhattan, New York City not Kansas.\u00a0 She spent a good amount of time evaluating being single what do you think in terms of what Bob is asking here?\u00a0 Young ladies, should they pursue young men at this point if they are single and losing hope?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is a great title to a book I\u2019m sure a lot of people have heard called <em>He\u2019s Just Not That Into You<\/em>.\u00a0 I think that pretty much sums it up actually.\u00a0 I\u2019m not recommending the book necessarily.\u00a0 I haven\u2019t read it but the title is great.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think it just really shows I believe that if a man really is interested in a woman he\u2019s going to do something about it.\u00a0 He\u2019s going to pursue her.\u00a0 For a woman I think there is something beautiful about being pursued by a man instead of trying to make something happen.\u00a0 Unfortunately women seem to be pros at manipulating situations to try to get what we want.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You write about internet dating in your book so here is the test for you.\u00a0 Have you ever signed up for one of those internet dating services and put your face and information out there?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have not.\u00a0 I personally don\u2019t want to.\u00a0 Let me say first of all that I do have friends who have and who have met their wonderful spouses on line.\u00a0 So it is definitely something that God can use I would say because obviously He has used it in these people\u2019s lives.\u00a0 I think it is a sad comment on where we\u2019ve come in our society that we need a computer to bring people together.\u00a0 For example especially at my church because it\u2019s a huge church I would think that most men I would hope could find someone there.\u00a0 There are tons of women and far fewer men.\u00a0 I do think there are some concerns about internet dating.\u00a0 One would be you are looking for the perfect person.\u00a0 You can go through all these men out there.\u00a0 He looks like he might be a possibility.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>It\u2019s the ultimate check list.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s a huge checklist.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I mean great Scott you\u2019ve got\u2026I\u2019ve not done it obviously I\u2019ve been married happily for\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But you can review hundreds of resumes and filter through if you want. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Exactly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I can almost imagine somebody saying okay Carolyn I agree with you.\u00a0 I wish things were different then they are.\u00a0 I wish we didn\u2019t live in the technological age that we do and it was like it used to be but it\u2019s not.\u00a0 I hear you saying there are problems with internet dating but you know what call in about five years when you\u2019ve been single for another five years and let\u2019s see if you still feel that way.\u00a0 Are you thinking I would never do that or are you thinking right now that\u2019s not the path I ought to go?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s a great question.\u00a0 I definitely am not saying I would never do it because like I said I think God can use it.\u00a0 He has brought my friends together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So you don\u2019t think it\u2019s wrong.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I don\u2019t think it is wrong.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s just an issue of preference and choice for you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right and I just would say I think people should be aware of the dangers of it but as you said Dennis there are dangers with it regardless with dating. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m not trying to change opinion.\u00a0 As you were describing it though I thought Carolyn is describing what takes place when two people start to get to know one another anyway.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 If you are looking for the danger free method for bringing a relationship together it doesn\u2019t exist does it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s back to how does this happen?\u00a0 Well a young man has to step forward toward a young lady and he has to express some interest.\u00a0 He has to pursue her and he has to pursue a relationship.\u00a0 I want to tell you something I\u2019m encouraged at the number of men that I\u2019m hearing are stepping up and doing that.\u00a0 There just needs to be more of them.\u00a0 I think they need to be cheered on when they take the step knowing that it is risky.\u00a0 It is risky for a guy to do this because he may get rejected.\u00a0 It\u2019s not nearly as safe as a video game.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve got a question for you.\u00a0 If you were to arrive back in Manhattan back after this interview and you go home and you open your mail and there\u2019s a wedding invitation from one of your friends.\u00a0 You didn\u2019t even know that this person was engaged and now you\u2019re invited to the wedding.\u00a0 Do you go my heart rejoices or do you go there\u2019s another one?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Today I think I could say my heart rejoices.\u00a0 Ten years ago I would have really really struggled.\u00a0 It could be that in ten years if I\u2019m still single it\u2019ll be very difficult.\u00a0 So I think it goes back to seasons.\u00a0 We\u2019re in different seasons of life and we continually have to regardless of where we are say okay Lord what do You say about me?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tRemember that He is working something good in our lives.\u00a0 Yes, there\u2019s definitely the sinking in the heart when you get an invitation.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Since Bob is grilling you I\u2019ve got one for you.\u00a0 Bless your heart.\u00a0 I\u2019ve got a single daughter so I know how this is a little bit because I\u2019ve comforted her and encouraged her along the way.\u00a0 Tell you how you want to feel about this.\u00a0\u00a0 We just want you to get together with this young man and we\u2019ve got someone we think would be perfect for you, Carolyn.\u00a0 He loves Jesus and he\u2019s been going to church for 30 minutes, I mean, 30 whatever\u2026what do you think about that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think that even though it can be really uncomfortable sometimes and maybe usually what if?\u00a0 What if that person does end up being a good match?\u00a0 So I would say why not?\u00a0 For the single person I would say why not?\u00a0 Be open.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>(laughter)\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m serious.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Wide open huh?\u00a0 Then an arranged marriage.\u00a0 So if Bob and I, now that we\u2019ve kind of gotten to know you a little bit, if we know a young man\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Hang on.\u00a0 Hang on here.\u00a0 It could mean that you\u2019re going to spend an awkward and uncomfortable evening couldn\u2019t it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, it could mean that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 But what I heard her saying Bob\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s worth the risk for that.\u00a0 Is that what you\u2019re saying?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 On the flip side I would also say to people who would like to set someone up try to think \u2026I know this single person and I know this single person so let\u2019s get them together.\u00a0 Have a little more thought about it because if these people have nothing at all in common and they live on the opposite ends of the world maybe it\u2019s not going to be the best situation.\u00a0 So just be thoughtful about that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Has this happened with you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I have been set up actually I was set up recently and it was a lovely date.\u00a0 It was a really nice time unfortunately nothing came of it.\u00a0 (laughter)\u00a0 But at least it was a nice date.\u00a0 And I also have been set up in a very awkward situation too.\u00a0 But I\u2019m still very open and in fact recently I have told a couple of married friends of mine by the way if you know of any nice\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Oh really.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, I have.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So you really believe this is safer than internet dating?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think so.\u00a0 I feel safer with it personally.\u00a0 Sure it can be awkward.\u00a0 If you trust the people.\u00a0 If you trust your friends.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Here are the two situations you just described for us.\u00a0 One is awkward.\u00a0 The second is you have a lovely time and nothing comes of it.\u00a0 Both of those are disappointments.\u00a0 It\u2019s almost where you\u2019d get to a point and you would say enough disappointment in my life I don\u2019t want to go back out and be disappointed one more time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Have you ever thought about giving up on dating?\u00a0 Have you ever thought about it?\u00a0 I didn\u2019t say you had decided.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>No.\u00a0 Because I think then you close yourself off to the opportunity of meeting someone.\u00a0 There\u2019s always the chance and probably the likelihood that you are going to be disappointed but what\u2019s the saying you have to be willing to have your heart broken to have something come.\u00a0 Something positive to happen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Let me ask you about this.\u00a0 Let\u2019s say you do have a nice time with a young man and you start to see him regularly and you just develop this huge crush.\u00a0 I would assume that in your 20s and 30s if you\u2019re not married you can still develop big crushes on people right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>What do you do with a crush if there is nothing happening?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>She had a crush for seven years.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>That\u2019s the reason I\u2019m asking.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I know.\u00a0 I know.\u00a0 Pathetic, right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, it\u2019s not pathetic.\u00a0 What did you do with that crush?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I had to pray to God to help me to move on.\u00a0 Obviously there is disappointment but I think we have work through that and not try to repress the feelings.\u00a0 Work through it and bring it before the Lord.\u00a0 Say I am disappointed.\u00a0 I\u2019m struggling here.\u00a0 Help me get through this. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Did you ever tell the guy that you were fond of him?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 I didn\u2019t.\u00a0 As women we have the opportunity to encourage men and perhaps with this man I did not encourage him as I could have.\u00a0 Looking back I realize that.\u00a0 Because I think he was interested at one point and I probably didn\u2019t encourage that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 The reason was?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, no wait.\u00a0 What would you do differently today if the situation presented itself?\u00a0 How would you encourage a man if you suspected there might be some interest?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That a good question.\u00a0 When we were in college we wrote letters and sent them to one another.\u00a0 It was before email.\u00a0 He had written me a couple of letters over the summer.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Okay wait.\u00a0 If a guy does that, that\u2019s huge.\u00a0 Guys don\u2019t write letters. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I know.\u00a0 I know.\u00a0 See but I must have been blind or something back then.\u00a0 I should have written him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 You didn\u2019t write back?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think this was before I was really interested in him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Oh, Carolyn.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I know.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 That guy probably is in a recovery program somewhere.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 No, he\u2019s married and has a child.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Why didn\u2019t you write him back?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I don\u2019t know.\u00a0\u00a0 We do things in our lives that we can\u2019t explain.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So back to Bob\u2019s question.\u00a0 What would you say if you had it to do all over again?\u00a0 I\u2019m not talking about just writing back.\u00a0 Describe if a young lady was interested in a young man without taking over the relationship and becoming the leader and usurping the guy and who he needs to be because men need to step up.\u00a0 That\u2019s real clear.\u00a0 Men need to pursue women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What should a woman do?\u00a0 Describe that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m going to give you a personal example of what has happened recently to me.\u00a0 There is a man that I was interested in and he seemed to not be picking up on that or maybe he was not interested.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 I decided I was going to say to him, \u201cHey I\u2019ve seen you a couple of times and it seems like we just keep flying by each other and don\u2019t have an opportunity to have a conversation.\u00a0 So we should get together some time.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Really?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, I did and that was very bold for me.\u00a0 I just sort of put it out there for him and I feel if he had an interest that should have been encouragement I would hope.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, you were not saying let\u2019s go out on a date.\u00a0 You were saying we ought to get together some time.\u00a0 And let him either pick up on that or not follow up.\u00a0 In this case did he pick up on it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What did he do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 He seemed positive so I\u2019ll say this again this is pretty recent.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So we\u2019re still waiting to see.\u00a0 The jury is not in yet.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think the jury is in and nothing is going to happen.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m speaking to the guy\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong> Yes, because maybe he\u2019ll listen.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m a dad and I\u2019ve got a daughter.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the way it looks.\u00a0 The young lady is attractive, bright, a lot of ambition, a lot of talents, a lot of abilities if she seems friendly and you\u2019re single you know what guys, call.\u00a0 Knock on the door.\u00a0 Step on up and risk it.\u00a0 Listen to me.\u00a0 Nothing comes to the man who waits.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo if she\u2019s nice and she\u2019s pretty.\u00a0 She smiling like this young lady is doing right here and you happen to be listening.\u00a0 And you\u2019re putting two and two together and you realize it was Carolyn who said that to you, call 1-800-FL TODAY \u2026no we in the rough the sense men were made to conquer kingdoms and to love princesses and make them queens.\u00a0 The only way you\u2019ll carry her off to the castle is if you pick her up.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 As you\u2019re telling this I am remembering being in the 11<sup>th<\/sup> grade and being scared to death as a guy.\u00a0 I remember when my friend came to me and said do you like so and so.\u00a0 And I said well, yes, kind of.\u00a0 Well she likes you and she\u2019d go out with you if you\u2019d ask her.\u00a0 He\u2019d gotten the inside skinny and I was still scared.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was a sure bet and you\u2019re still terrified.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, why is it that guys are like that?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Because you\u2019re stepping out and risking your heart even at a very primitive level.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to beat up on the guys.\u00a0 I think guys get hammered a lot but you know what?\u00a0 In this culture I think there has been a concerted effort to take away initiative from men.\u00a0 In an effort to create equality we have taken away the sword of initiative from a man.\u00a0 Women want a warrior.\u00a0\u00a0 We\u2019ve got one in the studio she\u2019s nodding her head right now.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 But here\u2019s what I have to ask you in the midst of this.\u00a0 It\u2019s possible that with the desire you have to be married and have a family that won\u2019t be God\u2019s gift to you in this life.\u00a0 His gift to you will be the gift of singleness.\u00a0 Can you sit here today and say if that is God\u2019s plan for me I will rejoice in that plan and find joy in life if from here until I go home I\u2019m a single person?\u00a0 I can embrace that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I only can because I\u2019ve seen the past faithfulness of God and because His word tells me so.\u00a0 That sounds really simplistic but sometimes that\u2019s all we can hold on to is God\u2019s word.\u00a0 Knowing that He is good regardless of what my circumstances look like.\u00a0 Yes, it will be really hard to be single for my whole life but I don\u2019t know how long my life will be.\u00a0 I think we have to claim God\u2019s promises and sometimes the rejoicing might be with a tear streamed face.\u00a0 Saying God I\u2019m going to rejoice in You even though I am crying and I am in pain.\u00a0 The rejoicing is in God it\u2019s not in the circumstances.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Earlier we talked about how whether single or married we have dreams, hopes, and visions for our lives and yet none of us knows the future.\u00a0 As we\u2019re traveling and hopefully fulfilling God\u2019s mission for our lives God shuts a door to the left and He opens a door to the right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou shared earlier how God shut the door of opera in your life but yet you feel like He\u2019s opening other doors.\u00a0 I think the real challenge for all of us as we make this journey in tumultuous times we walk by faith and we embrace the scripture that you have called us to in your book and on the broadcast.\u00a0 To believe it and not trust your emotions but in fact express your faith in spite of your emotions at times and I appreciate how you model hammering out life in what has to be one of the toughest places on the planet to be single, New York City.\u00a0 What a great challenge and opportunity to let your light shine.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTrust me if Bob and I run across the right guy we may end up calling you and say Well, to the young ladies who pursue a man in order to get one and they take over the relationship and they become the leader.\u00a0 If they catch the guy after they\u2019ve caught him they are going hope?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 There is a great title to a book I\u2019m sure a lot of people have heard called <em>He\u2019s Just Not That Into You<\/em>.\u00a0 I think that pretty much sums it up actually.\u00a0 I\u2019m not recommending the book necessarily.\u00a0 I haven\u2019t read it but the title is great.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think it just really shows I believe that if a man really is interested in a woman he\u2019s going to do something about it.\u00a0 He\u2019s going to pursue her.\u00a0 For a woman I think there is something beautiful about being pursued by a man instead of trying to make something happen.\u00a0 Unfortunately women seem to be pros at manipulating situations to try to get what we want.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 You write about internet dating in your book so here is the test for you.\u00a0 Have you ever signed up for one of those internet dating services and put your face and information out there?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I have not.\u00a0 I personally don\u2019t want to.\u00a0 Let me say first of all that I do have friends who have and who have met their wonderful spouses on line.\u00a0 So it is definitely something that God can use I would say because obviously He has used it in these people\u2019s lives.\u00a0 I think it is a sad comment on where we\u2019ve come in our society that we need a computer to bring people together.\u00a0 For example especially at my church because it\u2019s a huge church I would think that most men I would hope could find someone there.\u00a0 There are tons of women and far fewer men.\u00a0 I do think there are some concerns about internet dating.\u00a0 One would be you are looking for the perfect person.\u00a0 You can go through all these men out there.\u00a0 He looks like he might be a possibility.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>It\u2019s the ultimate check list.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s a huge checklist.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>I mean great Exactly.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I can almost imagine somebody saying okay Carolyn I agree with you.\u00a0 I wish things were different then they are.\u00a0 I wish we didn\u2019t live in the technological age that we do and it was like it used to be but it\u2019s not.\u00a0 I hear you saying there are problems with internet dating but you know what call in about five years when you\u2019ve been single for another five years and let\u2019s see if you still feel that way.\u00a0 Are you thinking I would never do that or are you thinking right now that\u2019s not the path I ought to go?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 That\u2019s a great question.\u00a0 I definitely am not saying I would never do it because like I said I think God can use it.\u00a0 He has brought my friends together.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So you don\u2019t think it\u2019s wrong.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I don\u2019t think it is wrong.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s just an issue of preference and choice for you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Right and I just would say I think people should be aware of the dangers of it but as you said Dennis there are dangers with it regardless with dating. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m not trying to change opinion.\u00a0 As you were describing it though I thought Carolyn is describing what takes place when two people start to get to know one another anyway.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 If you are looking for the danger free method for bringing a relationship together it doesn\u2019t exist does it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It\u2019s back to how does this happen?\u00a0 Well a young man has to step forward toward a young lady and he has to express some interest.\u00a0 He has to pursue her and he has to pursue a relationship.\u00a0 I want to tell you something I\u2019m encouraged at the number of men that I\u2019m hearing are stepping up and doing that.\u00a0 There just needs to be more of them.\u00a0 I think they need to be cheered on when they take the step knowing that it is risky.\u00a0 It is risky for a guy to do this because he may get rejected.\u00a0 It\u2019s not nearly as safe as a video game.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019ve got a question for you.\u00a0 If you were to arrive back in Manhattan back after this interview and you go home and you open your mail and there\u2019s a wedding invitation from one of your friends.\u00a0 You didn\u2019t even know that this person was engaged and now you\u2019re invited to the wedding.\u00a0 Do you go my heart rejoices or do you go there\u2019s another one?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Today I think I could say my heart rejoices.\u00a0 Ten years ago I would have really really struggled.\u00a0 It could be that in ten years if I\u2019m still single it\u2019ll be very difficult.\u00a0 So I think it goes back to seasons.\u00a0 We\u2019re in different seasons of life and we continually have to regardless of where we are say okay Lord what do You say about me?\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tRemember that He is working something good in our try to think \u2026I know this single person and I know this single person so let\u2019s get them together.\u00a0 Have a little more thought about it because if these people have nothing at all in common and they live on the opposite ends of the world maybe it\u2019s not going to be the best situation.\u00a0 So just be thoughtful about that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Has this happened with you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I have been set up actually I was set up recently and it was a lovely date.\u00a0 It was a really nice time unfortunately nothing came of it.\u00a0 (laughter)\u00a0 But at least it was a nice date.\u00a0 And I also have been set up in a very awkward situation too.\u00a0 But I\u2019m still very open and in fact recently I have told a couple of married friends of mine by the way if you know of any nice\u2026\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Oh really.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, I have.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 So you really believe this is safer than internet dating?\u00a0 nothing comes of it.\u00a0 Both of those are disappointments.\u00a0 It\u2019s almost where you\u2019d get to a point and you would say enough disappointment in my life I don\u2019t want to go back out and be disappointed one more time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Have you ever thought about giving up on dating?\u00a0 Have you ever thought about it?\u00a0 I nice time with a young man and you start to see him regularly and you just develop this huge crush.\u00a0 I would assume that in your 20s and 30s if you\u2019re not married you can still develop big crushes on people right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>Yes.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>What do you do with a crush if there is nothing you a personal example of what has happened recently to me.\u00a0 There is a man that I was interested in and he seemed to not be picking up on that or maybe he was not interested.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 I decided I was going to say to him, \u201cHey I\u2019ve seen you a couple of times and it seems like we just keep flying by each other and don\u2019t have an opportunity to have a conversation.\u00a0 So we should get together some time.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Really?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, I did and that was very bold for me.\u00a0 I just sort of put it out there for him and I feel if he had an interest that should have been encouragement I would hope.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes, you were not saying let\u2019s go out on a date.\u00a0 You were saying we ought to get together some time.\u00a0 And let him either pick up on that or not follow up.\u00a0 In this case did he pick up on it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 What did he do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 He seemed positive so I\u2019ll say this again this is pretty recent.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 So we\u2019re still waiting to see.\u00a0 The jury is not in yet.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I think the jury is in and nothing is going to happen.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019m speaking to the up and risk it.\u00a0 Listen to me.\u00a0 Nothing comes to the man who waits.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo if she\u2019s nice and she\u2019s pretty.\u00a0 She smiling like this young lady is doing right here and you happen to be listening.\u00a0 And you\u2019re putting two and two together and you realize it was Carolyn who said that to you, call 1-800-FL TODAY \u2026no we won\u2019t.\u00a0\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t(laughter)\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s the deal.\u00a0 Men need to initiate.\u00a0 Men were made and I don\u2019t mean this in the rough the sense men were made to conquer kingdoms and to love princesses and make them queens.\u00a0 The only way you\u2019ll carry her off to the castle is if you pick her up.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong>\u00a0 As you\u2019re telling this I am remembering being in the 11<sup>th<\/sup> grade and being scared to death as a guy.\u00a0 I remember when my friend came to me and said do you like so and so.\u00a0 And I said well, yes, kind of.\u00a0 Well she likes you and she\u2019d go out with you if you\u2019d ask her.\u00a0 He\u2019d gotten the inside skinny and I was still scared.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 It was a sure bet and you\u2019re still terrified.\u00a0 singleness.\u00a0 Can you sit here today and say if that is God\u2019s plan for me I will rejoice in that plan and find joy in life if from here until I go home I\u2019m a single person?\u00a0 I can embrace that.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Carolyn:<\/strong>\u00a0 I only can because I\u2019ve seen the past faithfulness of God and because His word tells me so.\u00a0 That sounds really simplistic but sometimes that\u2019s all we can hold on to is God\u2019s word.\u00a0 Knowing that He is good regardless of what my circumstances look like.\u00a0 Yes, it will be really hard to be single for my whole life but I don\u2019t know how long my life will be.\u00a0 I think we have to claim God\u2019s promises and sometimes the rejoicing might be with a tear streamed face.\u00a0 Saying God I\u2019m going to rejoice in You even though I am crying and I am in pain.\u00a0 The rejoicing is in God it\u2019s not in the circumstances.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong>\u00a0 Earlier we talked about how whether single or married we have dreams, hopes, and visions for our lives and yet none of us knows the future.\u00a0 As we\u2019re traveling and hopefully fulfilling God\u2019s mission for our lives God shuts a door to the left and He opens a door to the right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou shared earlier how God shut the door of opera in your life but yet you feel like He\u2019s opening other doors.\u00a0 I think the real challenge for all of us as we make this journey in tumultuous times we walk by faith and we embrace the scripture that you have called us to in your book and on the broadcast.\u00a0 To believe it and not trust your emotions but in fact express your faith in spite of your emotions at times and I appreciate how you model hammering out life in what has to be one of the toughest places on the planet to be single, New York City.\u00a0 What a great challenge and opportunity to let your light shine.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTrust me if Bob and I run across the right guy we may end up calling you and say
