I\u2019ve learned about Him\u2014I know <em>Him<\/em> more than I did 15 years ago. It\u2019s because I have learned more about who He is and what He came to do. Christmas is so much more meaningful to me than it ever was before, because I\u2019m celebrating this person that I have come to know. [Laughter] It\u2019s real hard for me to wrap my brain around that, but it is true\u2014we now have 24 grandchildren.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> By the way, this is Grandma Barbara Rainey, who is joining us again.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes; Mimi\u2014Mimi.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Mimi. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Mimi. Everything\u2019s there so that folks can join in the celebration of the season.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere is something fun about heading toward Christmas with a new baby in the family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re talking about Christmas, because you have a passion to see moms and dads reclaim this season and focus on what it\u2019s supposed to be all about. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I do. I\u2019ve talked about it a few times; I think I could talk about it in my sleep.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYes; I do have a passion for making Christmas about a celebration of the birth of Christ\u2014not Santas, and snowmen, and reindeer, and all of those other things that have become much more common in our celebration.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019re not against those things; are you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Oh, no, no, no.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> They just can\u2019t dominate. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right, and they do dominate. We <em>have<\/em> to find a way to make the celebration of Jesus and His birth\u2014and what He came to do for us\u2014at least, equal with all of those things that are surrounding us. My preference would be that we elevate the celebration of who Jesus is\u2014make our Christmas tree about Jesus and not about all these other things. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Back on November 1st, I got a text from Mary Ann; and it had exclamation points in it\u2014it said, \u201cThis radio station has just started playing continuous Christmas music!\u201d She was excited. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Oh?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I remember listening, for a little while, with her in the car. It just dawned on me: \u201cThere\u2019s <em>nothing<\/em> about Jesus,\u201d in these songs that they were playing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s the sad thing\u2014Christmas music used to be all Christmas hymns, and songs, and praise songs. Now, it\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Now, it\u2019s: \u201cLast Christmas I gave you my heart, and you gave it away,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes; oh, I get so sick of that one.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014and <em>All I Want for Christmas Is You<\/em>. Those are all fun songs, and it helps bring you into the season; but after a while, there is a subtle impact that Christmas is about snow, and hot chocolate, and candy canes,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014and romance.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You have to say romance, because I like watching an occasional Hallmark Christmas movie.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Keith, the engineer, said we\u2019ve documented this.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> They are so predictable and the stories\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> They are predictable.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014are just formulaic. We laugh; because I say the dialogue before the dialogue, actually, comes out the character\u2019s mouths. But there\u2019s just something about people falling in love, over Christmas, that is nice. But here\u2019s the point\u2014that\u2019s not what Christmas is about. It\u2019s not about finding the love of your life; it\u2019s not about having a white Christmas; it\u2019s not about candy canes and toys. Yet, those are the messages we\u2019re getting, over and over again, from the culture. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTo light a candle in that darkness has been a passion for you, and that\u2019s what led to the development of Ever Thine Home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I would have to say, as a follow-up for what you just said: \u201cChristmas is about finding the love of your life\u2014it\u2019s about falling in love with Jesus. We have taken romance to a level where that shouldn\u2019t be. Our love really should be for Christ.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, I have grown to love Jesus <em>so much<\/em> more than I ever imagined I would; because I\u2019ve studied His names. I\u2019ve learned about Him\u2014I know <em>Him<\/em> more than I did 15 years ago; more than I did 5 years ago. It\u2019s because I have learned about who He is and what He came to do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tChristmas is so much more meaningful to me than it ever was before, because I\u2019m celebrating this person that I have come to know\u2014and all of who He is that I\u2019ve come to know, which is just a teensy grain of sand in what we can know about Him. Christmas is about <em>love<\/em>\u2014it\u2019s just about loving Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Our assignment, as parents\u2014to teach the truth about God and then to talk about how He is changing our lives. Jesus came to this planet to save us, but He also came to this planet to work in and through us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s what parenting should be. We ought to be sharing with our kids what He\u2019s doing in our life\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014how He\u2019s changed our lives \/ how we encountered somebody in the marketplace and shared about Jesus Christ with them, here, at this holiday season. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019re pulling this out of Psalm 78, where it talks about passing on, not only the truth about God, but also our testimony; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Right; and it\u2019s a warning, Bob, the passage talks about; so that there will not be a generation, who is rebellious\/who doesn\u2019t know God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAgain, the names of God, I think\u2014and honestly, it really took Barbara doing this for me to understand\u2014God is disclosing Himself to us. He does it through His names.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes; yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, there are names about God\u2014over 300 according to scholars\u2014at least, some scholars. What Barbara\u2019s done is\u2014she\u2019s created a series of ornaments that proclaim His names in helping moms and dads and grandparents to introduce their children to the names of Christ, and who He is, and how that relates to their lives.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> These are Christmas tree ornaments that, again, remind us of whose birthday we\u2019re celebrating. When you talk about names here, we\u2019re talking about titles\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014not given names\u2014in the same way that I am a father, \u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014and I am a husband, and I\u2019m a pastor, and I\u2019m a radio host. Those are all titles for me. Jesus has, not just dozens, but hundreds of titles that remind us of His majesty and His glory.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Right; and they tell us more about who He is. The titles you just listed for yourself tell a lot of people information about who you are that make you different from somebody else or a whole bunch of other people. The same is true for Jesus\u2014that the names\u2014when we learn about His names and who He is, it tells us a lot about Him\u2014tells us all kinds of things that we didn\u2019t know about Him, which helps us know Him better; because it\u2019s all about a relationship. He came that He would have a relationship with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKnowing these truths about who He is makes Christmas meaningful, and that\u2019s what so many people are longing for today. Christmas feels empty\u2014it feels hollow; it feels shallow. People are tired of the excess; and they\u2019re trying to figure out, \u201cHow do I make it meaningful?\u201d Well, the way you make it meaningful is go back to what it\u2019s all about\u2014get to know Jesus\u2014get to know who He is; learn His names. Make your holiday focused on Him, and you will discover meaning; because meaning comes from God alone.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Over the past seven years, you\u2019ve designed, now, more than two dozen ornaments\u2014each ornament with a different name or title for Jesus on it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The starting place, each year\u2014as you think about designing new ornaments\u2014has been to open the Bible and to look at these different names and then to spend time studying, and meditating, and considering, and meditating again, and digging deeper into this. That process\u2014before you ever get to designing an ornament\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014just to meditate on this name of Jesus, has to have had a profound impact on your understanding of who He is and your relationship. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes; absolutely; there\u2019s no question. I have <em>loved<\/em> getting to know who He is through His names. I have grown in my appreciation; I\u2019ve grown in my affection; I\u2019ve grown in my worship of who Jesus is and what He has done, because of what I have learned about Him through all of these different names of His. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think names are a gateway to get to know people. I mean, when you first meet someone that you don\u2019t know\u2014and you\u2019ve never been introduced before\u2014the first thing we do is say: \u201cHi; I\u2019m Barbara. What is your name?\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s the introduction point\u2014that\u2019s sort of the gateway to get to know that person\u2014is first, their name. Then you find out a little bit more about them. Jesus is no different\u2014our introduction to Him, as children, is: \u201cHis name is Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, there\u2019s a lot more to Jesus than just that one name, just as there\u2019s more to each of us than just our first name. We have more titles; we have gifts\u2014there\u2019s much more to us, as people. As you get to know who Jesus is, and get to know what He has done, and who He is by the different names that are assigned to Him in the Bible, you learn to know Him. When you learn to know Him\u2014just as we get to know people\u2014we begin to admire Him more; we love Him more; and we worship Him more. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You have a new set of ornaments this year\u2014the \u201cFamily Names of Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019re talking about \u201cJesus is our brother\u201d; \u201cJesus is our friend\u201d; \u201cJesus is our provider\u201d; \u201cJesus is our teacher.\u201d Again, each of those gives us a different aspect\/a different understanding of our relationship\u2014how we relate to Jesus. And they\u2019re done on chalkboards; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Little house-shaped chalkboards.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You can\u2019t erase them\u2014they\u2019re permanent. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Right; right. Yes; they are. I chose to do it in the shape of a house, because all of us live in a home of some kind. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYour house may not actually be shaped that way\u2014but home means safety; it means a shelter; it means that we\u2019re together in a physical location, whether it\u2019s a tent, or a hut, or a castle. Home incorporates that family relationship that all of us have. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe all came from a family, and Jesus lived in a family. He had a mom and a dad, and He had siblings, and He lived in some kind of a structure. I used that house shape as a representative of the family and where we all reside. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> As you mentioned earlier, home is all about relationships.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And that\u2019s what God\u2019s trying to help parents do\u2014is help them introduce their children to who He is and what He offers for their soul. There\u2019s another series of ornaments called \u201cHis Advent Names,\u201d which means \u201cHe came\u201d; \u201cHe arrived\u201d\u2014and you have four of those as well. They\u2019re in the shape of globes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere\u2019s one other one you have, Barbara, that I think is really powerful\u2014that\u2019s \u201cHis Eternal Names.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes; we designed this set <em>last<\/em> year. These names of Jesus are printed on gold stars. We tend to think of eternity when we think of the heavens, and we think of the Milky Way, and we think of all the stars that are out there. That helps children understand the immensity of God, in a little way\u2014not completely, of course\u2014but stars are a good way to envision eternity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have three gold stars with three of His eternal names: one is \u201cEternal Father\u201d; one is \u201c<em>Alpha<\/em> and <em>Omega<\/em>.\u201d I remember \u201c<em>Alpha<\/em> and <em>Omega<\/em>\u201d so clearly; because, in the church that I grew up in was one of the names I learned long, long time ago of Jesus. On the church that I grew up in, the altar always had a cloth on it; and it had the <em>alpha<\/em> sign on the left and the <em>omega<\/em> sign on the right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014the beginning and the end.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014the beginning and the end. Jesus is identified in the Bible as the <em>Alpha <\/em>and<em> Omega<\/em>\u2014that\u2019s one of the names on one of these stars. And the third one is \u201cBright Morning Star.\u201d It\u2019s a name attributed to Jesus in Revelation\u2014that He is our bright Morning Star\u2014and so we made these names in the shape of stars. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Barbara and I had an encounter in a Kentucky field, in the middle of summer, where we experienced a total eclipse\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> We did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014lasted for two minutes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You saw a star go out and come back.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014and come back. Yes; it was something else.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m going to tell you something\u2014Barbara and I had read an article in the Chicago newspaper. We were there, vacationing, for a couple of days. This guy wrote about it\u2014and he wasn\u2019t a believer\u2014but you could hear him describing the glory of God. He was at a loss for words\u2014he\u2019d been all around the world; he\u2019d experienced dozens of eclipses.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> He was what they call \u201ceclipse chasers.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> You know storm chasers; well, there are people who chase eclipses around the globe. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know what\u2019s behind the name, \u201cBright Morning Star\u201d; but I have a little better understanding because of that eclipse. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Tell them what happened. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> The eclipse was really much more than I ever expected it to be. Dennis and I hopped in a car; we drove to Kentucky, and we found this field. We got there on time, and we popped the back of the car. We sat back on the tailgate of the car. We had our little paper glasses that block out all of the light.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019re just out in a random field somewhere? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> We\u2019re in a random field. We actually had someone drive by on the random field, who asked us what we\u2019re doing there. We told them what we were doing there; and we said, \u201cWe just want to watch the eclipse!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cWe\u2019re from Arkansas,\u201d and he goes, \u201cAw, go ahead!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u201cOkay; you can stay as long as you leave when it\u2019s over.\u201d We said, \u201cFine.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut anyway, we put on our fancy little glasses. We had this app on our phone that counted down the minutes and then the seconds until the total eclipse, when you could take your fancy glasses off. We had that playing, and it was counting it down. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was really unprepared for how amazing it was to see this phenomenon. It was really worshipful to me. I realized, when I looked at that, that that\u2019s a taste of what it\u2019s going to be like to see Jesus someday; because you can\u2019t look at the sun unless it\u2019s in a total eclipse and, then, you can take your glasses off. What a picture for what it\u2019s going to be like, someday\u2014when the glasses that allow us <em>not<\/em> to see Jesus on earth because of our fallen-ness\u2014when we take those off and we will see Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSeeing the eclipse was a foretaste, for me, of what it will be like to see Jesus in all of His glory, in all of His light, and all of His brightness and, as the ornament says, as the Bright Morning Star. We will be able to see Him as He is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Both Barbara and I wept. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Oh, I did. I was <em>not<\/em> expecting that, but I couldn\u2019t help it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> She\u2019s not a crier; and for her to cry\u2014I\u2019m just telling you\u2014when He comes back the next time\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014here\u2019s the thing\u2014He\u2019s been here, but He\u2019s coming back; and this time, He\u2019s not coming back as a baby. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I was thinking about this\u2014as I was thinking about the Bright Morning Starand talking about \u201cHis Eternal Names\u201d\u2014Revelation, Chapter 19, verse 11 and about six or seven verses. Let me read it to you\u2014just picture this in your mind: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The One sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.\u00a0His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems, and He has a name written that no one knows but Himself.\u00a0He is clothed in a robe dipped inblood, and the name by which He is called is The Word of God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat a scene! Here\u2019s the King of kings, and the Lord of lords on a white horse, followed by the armies of heaven. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFrom His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then listen to this: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOn His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s going to all be real clear then. Time will be wrapped up, and we will see Him as He truly is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; and again, you see an ornament on your tree that says, \u201cJesus is the Bright and Morning Star\u201d and that scene comes to mind. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou go, \u201cOkay; this is not just about that little baby, who is over there in the manger.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s where it all started, but this is much bigger than just a baby in a manger. This is Lord of lords and King of kings as we sing, \u201cHe shall reign forever and ever. Halleluiah, Halleluiah!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Amen and amen! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s a part of the story of who Jesus is; and it\u2019s a part of the story that our children need to know and that we need to be reminded of every day. But certainly, we need to be reminded of, at Christmas, that it\u2019s not just about the baby in the manger\u2014as worshipful and as wonderful as that is\u2014that Jesus came as a tiny newborn, helpless infant\u2014but He will come again. He will come and reign, and rule, and He will come as King of kings and Lord of lords.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> With these eternal names that are in the shape of a star, you kind of imagined a fun activity for families.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I did; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I know one of the things that\u2019s been popular over the last, I don\u2019t know, five\/ten years has been to hide an elf around the house\u2014the Elf on a Shelf idea; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes, that idea; I don\u2019t know when it was hatched. Nonetheless, it has become very, very popular. I think it\u2019s popular, because everybody loves to anticipate. It\u2019s a part of why Christmas is such a fun season; because you see presents around the tree and people anticipate and wonder, \u201cWhat is in it?\u201d As fun as Elf on a Shelf is, there is nothing in that play activity that is about Christ \/ that\u2019s about the reason for Christmas. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne fun thing that a family can do, if you\u2019ve got kids\u2014with the \u201cEternal Names\u201d star ornaments\u2014you can make an Elf on a Shelf-type game called \u201cFollow the Star\u201d with these star ornaments during the month of December. You can take one and hide one for your kids to find the next morning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou can hide three of them, and have multiple kids find them the next morning. You can hide them once a week; you can hide them every day if you\u2019ve got the energy and the motivation to do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn doing that, talk about how the wise men followed a literal star: \u201cWhere did the star take them? How did they know that there was a baby who was being born?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think we need to be reminded that the story of Christmas is not a fable\u2014it\u2019s not some kind of fairytale.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> This happened! God invaded earth; He came and clothed Himself in human flesh; and He made Himself known. He gave Himself many, many names; because He\u2019s the One who named all the stars. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But somehow, He gives us, as parents, the great privilege of introducing the King of kings, the Bright Morning Star, the Eternal Father, the <em>Alpha <\/em>and the<em> Omega<\/em> to our kids. Everything\u2019s there so that folks can join in the celebration of the season.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere is something fun about heading toward Christmas with a new baby in the family. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re talking about Christmas, because you have a passion to see moms and dads reclaim this season and focus on what it\u2019s supposed to be all about. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I do. I\u2019ve talked about it a few times; I think I could talk about it in my sleep.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYes; I do have a passion for making Christmas about a celebration of the birth of Christ\u2014not Santas, and snowmen, and reindeer, and all of those other things that have become much more common in our celebration.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019re not against those things; are you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Oh, no, no, no.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> They just can\u2019t dominate. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s right, and they do dominate. We <em>have<\/em> to find a way to make the celebration of Jesus and His birth\u2014and what He came to do for us\u2014at least, equal with all of those things that are surrounding us. My preference would be that we elevate the celebration of who Jesus is\u2014make our Christmas tree about Jesus and not about all these other things. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Back on November 1st, I got a text from Mary Ann; and it had exclamation points in it\u2014it said, \u201cThis radio station has just started playing continuous Christmas music!\u201d She was excited. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Oh?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I remember listening, for a little while, with her in the car. It just dawned on me: \u201cThere\u2019s <em>nothing<\/em> about Jesus,\u201d in these songs that they were playing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s the sad thing\u2014Christmas music used to be all Christmas hymns, and songs, and praise songs. Now, it\u2019s\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Now, it\u2019s: \u201cLast Christmas I gave you my heart, and you gave it away,\u201d\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes; oh, I get so sick of that one.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014and <em>All I Want for Christmas Is You<\/em>. Those are all fun songs, and it helps bring you into the season; but after a while, there is a subtle impact that Christmas is about snow, and hot chocolate, and candy canes,\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014and romance.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You have to say romance, because I like watching an occasional Hallmark Christmas movie.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Keith, the engineer, said we\u2019ve documented this.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> They are so predictable and the stories\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> They are predictable.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014are just formulaic. We laugh; because I say the dialogue before the dialogue, actually, comes out the character\u2019s mouths. But there\u2019s just something about people falling in love, over Christmas, that is nice. But here\u2019s the point\u2014that\u2019s not what Christmas is about. It\u2019s not about finding the love of your life; it\u2019s not about having a white Christmas; it\u2019s not about candy canes and toys. Yet, those are the messages we\u2019re getting, over and over again, from the culture. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tTo light a candle in that darkness has been a passion for you, and that\u2019s what led to the development of Ever Thine Home.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I would have to say, as a follow-up for what you just said: \u201cChristmas is about finding the love of your life\u2014it\u2019s about falling in love with Jesus. We have taken romance to a level where that shouldn\u2019t be. Our love really should be for Christ.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI mean, I have grown to love Jesus <em>so much<\/em> more than I ever imagined I would; because I\u2019ve studied His names. I\u2019ve learned about Him\u2014I know <em>Him<\/em> more than I did 15 years ago; more than I did 5 years ago. It\u2019s because I have learned about who He is and what He came to do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tChristmas is so much more meaningful to me than it ever was before, because I\u2019m celebrating this person that I have come to know\u2014and all of who He is that I\u2019ve come to know, which is just a teensy grain of sand in what we can know about Him. Christmas is about <em>love<\/em>\u2014it\u2019s just about loving Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Our assignment, as parents\u2014to teach the truth about God and then to talk about how He is changing our lives. Jesus came to this planet to save us, but He also came to this planet to work in and through us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> That\u2019s what parenting should be. We ought to be sharing with our kids what He\u2019s doing in our life\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014how He\u2019s changed our lives \/ how we encountered somebody in the marketplace and shared about Jesus Christ with them, here, at this holiday season. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019re pulling this out of Psalm 78, where it talks about passing on, not only the truth about God, but also our testimony; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Right; and it\u2019s a warning, Bob, the passage talks about; so that there will not be a generation, who is rebellious\/who doesn\u2019t know God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAgain, the names of God, I think\u2014and honestly, it really took Barbara doing this for me to understand\u2014God is disclosing Himself to us. He does it through His names.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes; yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Well, there are names about God\u2014over 300 according to scholars\u2014at least, some scholars. What Barbara\u2019s done is\u2014she\u2019s created a series of ornaments that proclaim His names in helping moms and dads and grandparents to introduce their children to the names of Christ, and who He is, and how that relates to their lives.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> These are Christmas tree ornaments that, again, remind us of whose birthday we\u2019re celebrating. When you talk about names here, we\u2019re talking about titles\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014not given names\u2014in the same way that I am a father, \u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014and I am a husband, and I\u2019m a pastor, and I\u2019m a radio host. Those are all titles for me. Jesus has, not just dozens, but hundreds of titles that remind us of His majesty and His glory.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Right; and they tell us more about who He is. The titles you just listed for yourself tell a lot of people information about who you are that make you different from somebody else or a whole bunch of other people. The same is true for Jesus\u2014that the names\u2014when we learn about His names and who He is, it tells us a lot about Him\u2014tells us all kinds of things that we didn\u2019t know about Him, which helps us know Him better; because it\u2019s all about a relationship. He came that He would have a relationship with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKnowing these truths about who He is makes Christmas meaningful, and that\u2019s what so many people are longing for today. Christmas feels empty\u2014it feels hollow; it feels shallow. People are tired of the excess; and they\u2019re trying to figure out, \u201cHow do I make it meaningful?\u201d Well, the way you make it meaningful is go back to what it\u2019s all about\u2014get to know Jesus\u2014get to know who He is; learn His names. Make your holiday focused on Him, and you will discover meaning; because meaning comes from God alone.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Over the past seven years, you\u2019ve designed, now, more than two dozen ornaments\u2014each ornament with a different name or title for Jesus on it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Yes; right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> The starting place, each year\u2014as you think about designing new ornaments\u2014has been to open the Bible and to look at these different names and then to spend time studying, and meditating, and considering, and meditating again, and digging deeper into this. That process\u2014before you ever get to designing an ornament\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014just to meditate on this name of Jesus, has to have had a profound impact on your understanding of who He is and your relationship. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes; absolutely; there\u2019s no question. I have <em>loved<\/em> getting to know who He is through His names. I have grown in my appreciation; I\u2019ve grown in my affection; I\u2019ve grown in my worship of who Jesus is and what He has done, because of what I have learned about Him through all of these different names of His. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think names are a gateway to get to know people. I mean, when you first meet someone that you don\u2019t know\u2014and you\u2019ve never been introduced before\u2014the first thing we do is say: \u201cHi; I\u2019m Barbara. What is your name?\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s the introduction point\u2014that\u2019s sort of the gateway to get to know that person\u2014is first, their name. Then you find out a little bit more about them. Jesus is no different\u2014our introduction to Him, as children, is: \u201cHis name is Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, there\u2019s a lot more to Jesus than just that one name, just as there\u2019s more to each of us than just our first name. We have more titles; we have gifts\u2014there\u2019s much more to us, as people. As you get to know who Jesus is, and get to know what He has done, and who He is by the different names that are assigned to Him in the Bible, you learn to know Him. When you learn to know Him\u2014just as we get to know people\u2014we begin to admire Him more; we love Him more; and we worship Him more. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You have a new set of ornaments this year\u2014the \u201cFamily Names of Jesus.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019re talking about \u201cJesus is our brother\u201d; \u201cJesus is our friend\u201d; \u201cJesus is our provider\u201d; \u201cJesus is our teacher.\u201d Again, each of those gives us a different aspect\/a different understanding of our relationship\u2014how we relate to Jesus. And they\u2019re done on chalkboards; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Little house-shaped chalkboards.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You can\u2019t erase them\u2014they\u2019re permanent. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Right; right. Yes; they are. I chose to do it in the shape of a house, because all of us live in a home of some kind. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYour house may not actually be shaped that way\u2014but home means safety; it means a shelter; it means that we\u2019re together in a physical location, whether it\u2019s a tent, or a hut, or a castle. Home incorporates that family relationship that all of us have. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe all came from a family, and Jesus lived in a family. He had a mom and a dad, and He had siblings, and He lived in some kind of a structure. I used that house shape as a representative of the family and where we all reside. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> As you mentioned earlier, home is all about relationships.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And that\u2019s what God\u2019s trying to help parents do\u2014is help them introduce their children to who He is and what He offers for their soul. There\u2019s another series of ornaments called \u201cHis Advent Names,\u201d which means \u201cHe came\u201d; \u201cHe arrived\u201d\u2014and you have four of those as well. They\u2019re in the shape of globes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere\u2019s one other one you have, Barbara, that I think is really powerful\u2014that\u2019s \u201cHis Eternal Names.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes; we designed this set <em>last<\/em> year. These names of Jesus are printed on gold stars. We tend to think of eternity when we think of the heavens, and we think of the Milky Way, and we think of all the stars that are out there. That helps children understand the immensity of God, in a little way\u2014not completely, of course\u2014but stars are a good way to envision eternity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe have three gold stars with three of His eternal names: one is \u201cEternal Father\u201d; one is \u201c<em>Alpha<\/em> and <em>Omega<\/em>.\u201d I remember \u201c<em>Alpha<\/em> and <em>Omega<\/em>\u201d so clearly; because, in the church that I grew up in was one of the names I learned long, long time ago of Jesus. On the church that I grew up in, the altar always had a cloth on it; and it had the <em>alpha<\/em> sign on the left and the <em>omega<\/em> sign on the right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014the beginning and the end.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014the beginning and the end. Jesus is identified in the Bible as the <em>Alpha <\/em>and<em> Omega<\/em>\u2014that\u2019s one of the names on one of these stars. And the third one is \u201cBright Morning Star.\u201d It\u2019s a name attributed to Jesus in Revelation\u2014that He is our bright Morning Star\u2014and so we made these names in the shape of stars. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Barbara and I had an encounter in a Kentucky field, in the middle of summer, where we experienced a total eclipse\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> We did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014lasted for two minutes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You saw a star go out and come back.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u2014and come back. Yes; it was something else.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m going to tell you something\u2014Barbara and I had read an article in the Chicago newspaper. We were there, vacationing, for a couple of days. This guy wrote about it\u2014and he wasn\u2019t a believer\u2014but you could hear him describing the glory of God. He was at a loss for words\u2014he\u2019d been all around the world; he\u2019d experienced dozens of eclipses.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> He was what they call \u201ceclipse chasers.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Wow!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> You know storm chasers; well, there are people who chase eclipses around the globe. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know what\u2019s behind the name, \u201cBright Morning Star\u201d; but I have a little better understanding because of that eclipse. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Tell them what happened. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> The eclipse was really much more than I ever expected it to be. Dennis and I hopped in a car; we drove to Kentucky, and we found this field. We got there on time, and we popped the back of the car. We sat back on the tailgate of the car. We had our little paper glasses that block out all of the light.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You\u2019re just out in a random field somewhere? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> We\u2019re in a random field. We actually had someone drive by on the random field, who asked us what we\u2019re doing there. We told them what we were doing there; and we said, \u201cWe just want to watch the eclipse!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cWe\u2019re from Arkansas,\u201d and he goes, \u201cAw, go ahead!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> \u201cOkay; you can stay as long as you leave when it\u2019s over.\u201d We said, \u201cFine.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut anyway, we put on our fancy little glasses. We had this app on our phone that counted down the minutes and then the seconds until the total eclipse, when you could take your fancy glasses off. We had that playing, and it was counting it down. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI was really unprepared for how amazing it was to see this phenomenon. It was really worshipful to me. I realized, when I looked at that, that that\u2019s a taste of what it\u2019s going to be like to see Jesus someday; because you can\u2019t look at the sun unless it\u2019s in a total eclipse and, then, you can take your glasses off. What a picture for what it\u2019s going to be like, someday\u2014when the glasses that allow us <em>not<\/em> to see Jesus on earth because of our fallen-ness\u2014when we take those off and we will see Jesus. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSeeing the eclipse was a foretaste, for me, of what it will be like to see Jesus in all of His glory, in all of His light, and all of His brightness and, as the ornament says, as the Bright Morning Star. We will be able to see Him as He is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Both Barbara and I wept. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Oh, I did. I was <em>not<\/em> expecting that, but I couldn\u2019t help it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> She\u2019s not a crier; and for her to cry\u2014I\u2019m just telling you\u2014when He comes back the next time\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014here\u2019s the thing\u2014He\u2019s been here, but He\u2019s coming back; and this time, He\u2019s not coming back as a baby. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I was thinking about this\u2014as I was thinking about the Bright Morning Starand talking about \u201cHis Eternal Names\u201d\u2014Revelation, Chapter 19, verse 11 and about six or seven verses. Let me read it to you\u2014just picture this in your mind: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The One sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.\u00a0His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems, and He has a name written that no one knows but Himself.\u00a0He is clothed in a robe dipped inblood, and the name by which He is called is The Word of God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat a scene! Here\u2019s the King of kings, and the Lord of lords on a white horse, followed by the armies of heaven. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFrom His mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then listen to this: \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOn His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s going to all be real clear then. Time will be wrapped up, and we will see Him as He truly is. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; and again, you see an ornament on your tree that says, \u201cJesus is the Bright and Morning Star\u201d and that scene comes to mind. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou go, \u201cOkay; this is not just about that little baby, who is over there in the manger.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s where it all started, but this is much bigger than just a baby in a manger. This is Lord of lords and King of kings as we sing, \u201cHe shall reign forever and ever. Halleluiah, Halleluiah!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Amen and amen! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>That\u2019s a part of the story of who Jesus is; and it\u2019s a part of the story that our children need to know and that we need to be reminded of every day. But certainly, we need to be reminded of, at Christmas, that it\u2019s not just about the baby in the manger\u2014as worshipful and as wonderful as that is\u2014that Jesus came as a tiny newborn, helpless infant\u2014but He will come again. He will come and reign, and rule, and He will come as King of kings and Lord of lords.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> With these eternal names that are in the shape of a star, you kind of imagined a fun activity for families.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> I did; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> I know one of the things that\u2019s been popular over the last, I don\u2019t know, five\/ten years has been to hide an elf around the house\u2014the Elf on a Shelf idea; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Yes, that idea; I don\u2019t know when it was hatched. Nonetheless, it has become very, very popular. I think it\u2019s popular, because everybody loves to anticipate. It\u2019s a part of why Christmas is such a fun season; because you see presents around the tree and people anticipate and wonder, \u201cWhat is in it?\u201d As fun as Elf on a Shelf is, there is nothing in that play activity that is about Christ \/ that\u2019s about the reason for Christmas. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne fun thing that a family can do, if you\u2019ve got kids\u2014with the \u201cEternal Names\u201d star ornaments\u2014you can make an Elf on a Shelf-type game called \u201cFollow the Star\u201d with these star ornaments during the month of December. You can take one and hide one for your kids to find the next morning. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou can hide three of them, and have multiple kids find them the next morning. You can hide them once a week; you can hide them every day if you\u2019ve got the energy and the motivation to do that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIn doing that, talk about how the wise men followed a literal star: \u201cWhere did the star take them? How did they know that there was a baby who was being born?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I think we need to be reminded that the story of Christmas is not a fable\u2014it\u2019s not some kind of fairytale.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> That\u2019s right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> This happened! God invaded earth; He came and clothed Himself in human flesh; and He made Himself known. He gave Himself many, many names; because He\u2019s the One who named all the stars. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> But somehow, He gives us, as parents, the great privilege of introducing the King of kings, the Bright Morning Star, the Eternal Father, the <em>Alpha <\/em>and the<em> Omega<\/em> to our kids.
