Stay with us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us. There\u2019s a little testosterone aroma in the studio today. Have you noticed that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You think? I wish our guest had some passion! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Joe Pellegrino joins us. Joe is the founder of Legacy Minded Men. He\u2019s the father of three and has written a book called <em>Transformed: Seven Pillars of a Legacy Minded Man. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re talking about, really, men with a mission \/ men on purpose\u2014God\u2019s purpose for their lives. Earlier, we talked about how a legacy-minded man begins as a man of prayer. Secondly, he moves to having a persona\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014that is who God created him to be\u2014a man of the right attitude and character. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis third area of a legacy-minded man is very important.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> It\u2019s called purity. Purity maintains unbroken relationship with God as your leader. You know, when we hear the word, \u201cpurity,\u201d we think of sexual purity. Of course, that\u2019s always key, especially for men, but there are other types of purity as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m going to illustrate two of them for you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNumber one: when I went to college, my father\u2019s sex talk that I got was, \u201cBe careful.\u201d I wasn\u2019t; I was a fool! What would have happened if I was led down a different path?\u2014if I had been given words of encouragement and affirmation, understanding who I really was and what I was created to do? It would have been great.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to share another story about purity\u2014that\u2019s your sexual reign\u2014but\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Before you go on\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014I just want to say a word here. The past few months have been known by the #MeToo. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> This is where Christianity has an answer for some of the anger the world feels when men have acted and behaved as boys\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Absolutely!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and have taken advantage of women. Jesus Christ transforms a boy, who doesn\u2019t know how to control his passions. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> He transforms him when he submits to Jesus Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And he turns those passions into respect and admiration of women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And he protects women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, let me just make sure; because you said, \u201cJesus Christ transforms a man\u2019s passions.\u201d There have been Christian men, who have acted like fools.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Of course; unfortunately!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes; we\u2019re all a step away. King David acted like a fool!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; so it begins with the transformation in Christ, but a man\u2019s got to walk in a manner worthy in order to live up to that which he\u2019s been called to.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> We live in a world, right now, where we have too many boys. Let\u2019s face it: boys play house; men build them. We have to recognize that there is a time to grow up, and to get out, and to do what we\u2019re called to do! Unfortunately\u2014the generation that\u2019s being raised\u2014they don\u2019t know how to do it\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> \u2014or they\u2019re not doing it: \u201cIt\u2019s more important to be <em>friends<\/em> with our children than to discipline them and love them.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You had a second illustration on purity you wanted to share with us, though.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; just purity in general\u2014purity of character. This is a powerful story that I had to go through. I sound really bad with it, but it\u2019s the truth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I first spoke about my faith was 1995. A gentleman named Dave Swanson asked me to speak for a group of seventy 70-year-olds, and I did. I was told: \u201cYou go and pray first before you speak\u201d; and I did. I prayed, and wow!\u2014there was not one \u201cah\u201d \/not one \u201cum\u201d\u2014it was awesome! The guys were patting me on the back, \u201cKeep talking, brother.\u201d I\u2019m, \u201cOkay; good,\u201d\u2014that was a Friday. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSaturday, I got a call from Mr. Swanson\u2014he says, \u201cJoe, your cousin, the pastor\u2014I have a cancellation for Yankees chapel. Would love for you to see if you can get him to speak.\u201d I said, \u201cSure.\u201d I called him up; he ends up on a camping trip\u2014so I told Dave this. Dave says: \u201cYou know what? You did such a great job Friday. Why don\u2019t you do the Yankees tomorrow?\u201d I said: \u201cWhat! Are you kidding me?! I\u2019m not doing\u2026\u201d\u2014now, I knew the Yankees; because my first book was called <em>Safe at Home<\/em> about Christian baseball players; so I had <em>known<\/em> all of these guys, but to do <em>church<\/em> for them?!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Now, wait a second! You had been speaking the day before to\u2014how old were they? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Seventy 70-year-olds. [Laughter] Is that a problem?! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m just picturing the contrast here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014between that and then the Yankees!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The New York Yankees; yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014the 28-year-old baseball players!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So how did you do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Dave did not take \u201cNo,\u201d for an answer; he picked me up. Here\u2019s the interesting part\u2014he would always take a visiting player to breakfast in New York City. This one was Tim Hulett, second baseman for the Baltimore Orioles. He brought Tim to breakfast with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe were talking; and Timmy\u2019s telling him: \u201cOne day, Joe, my wife and children are sitting on the front lawn. My wife is reading a magazine; my kids are playing when my wife hears the screech of tires. She puts her magazine down. In horror, she sees our six-year-old son lying in front of a car, dead.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> No.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> He ends up by telling me this\u2014he said, \u201cJoe, I know I\u2019m going to see him again.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe get in the car; we go to Yankee Stadium. I\u2019m still\u2014you know, in this: \u201cWow! This is unbelievable.\u201d They put me in\u2014and this was the old Yankee Stadium, guys, so there were three locker rooms: Yankees, visitors, and an umpires\u2019 room. I\u2019m in the umpires\u2019 room. I did exactly what I did on Friday\u2014I went in the bathroom and I prayed. I said, \u201cLord, take me over.\u201d The Baltimore Orioles\u2014eight of them came in\u2014same message as Friday. It was awesome!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI had 15 minutes between the Orioles and the Yankees. What did I do? Did I go in that bathroom again and pray? No; I started walking around in circles, thinking: \u201cI\u2019m really good; really good. I\u2019m better than my pastor.\u201d By the time I finished patting myself on the back, the door flies open. I\u2019ll never forget\u2014Willie Randolph is the first one\u2014he is like, \u201cWhat are you doing here, man?!\u201d I said, \u201cOh, I\u2019m preaching today!\u201d I am thinking to myself: \u201cMan! Are you going to be blessed!\u201d\u2014I didn\u2019t say it out loud\u2014but that\u2019s what I was thinking.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSeventeen Yankees\u2014and one of my boyhood idols, Don Mattingly, sitting directly across from me\u2014Dave Swanson introduces me: \u201c\u2026a local businessman\u2026\u201d blah-blah-blah. I opened my mouth, guys\u2014nothing comes out. I forgot <em>everything <\/em>I was going to say. To make matters worse, I was doing the \u201chomina\u201d\/\u201dhomina\u201d [stuttering and unable to speak clearly] thing. I started telling a story about how I met Mr. Swanson; and I may have\u2014well, taken a little bit of an extreme\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014embellished the story?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Just a <em>little<\/em> bit; just a little bit!\u2014so much so that Dave actually said, \u201cThat wasn\u2019t true.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014in front of the Yankees?!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> I tell people, \u201cIf you want be humbled, be called a liar while doing chapel for the New York Yankees.\u201d [Laughter] These are purity issues, guys\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> \u2014because when we lose identity \/ we lose who we are, we can sway to the left or to the right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe talk countlessly about how purity\u2014sexual purity is so important\u2014but there are other types of purity. We need to be pure in <em>spirit<\/em>\u2014that\u2019s a very difficult thing\u2014and that\u2019s why we need to surround ourselves with men, who are going to hold us accountable and teach us the right way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, if you had five minutes, as a father with a son, and you could talk to your son about purity of character and about sexual purity, what kind of a charge would you give him?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> I would tell him that: \u201cIn Proverbs 14:12, it says, \u2018There is a way that seems right to a man; but in the end, it leads to death.\u2019 Know, without a doubt, what you believe; why you believe it; and what the Word of God says. You can never, ever go wrong.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So tell me what that looks like with your adult sons, because it\u2019s one thing to charge a young lad, who\u2019s about to go through adolescence or already is a teenager\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014but it\u2019s another thing to have an adult son, who\u2019s facing the issues today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> They\u2019re coming at him, left and right, because of this little screen they carry around in their pockets.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes, sir. With my youngest son, we have Covenant Eyes on everything he has. He\u2019s accountable to me; and he has asked, himself, to be accountable to me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And you\u2019re accountable to him too; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> I\u2019m accountable to everybody. Anybody that asks me a question will get an answer.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> It\u2019 essential.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy older son is somebody that I\u2019ll need to share this story [about]. It\u2019s really a powerful story of redemption, and it will speak to your point. My son was eight years old. I would take him to the side of the house, and I would teach him how to play baseball. The deal was: \u201cIf you hit the ball over my head, I\u2019m going to buy you that pirate Lego<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> ship you\u2019ve always wanted,\u201d which was expensive for me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe long-and-short is\u2014he never hit the ball over my head\u2014or so I say. For years, he would always say, \u2018You never got me that pirate Lego ship.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd I would say, \u201cYou never hit the ball over my head.\u201d When he was 23- or 24-years-old\u2014I forget now\u2014we were moving him down from New Jersey to Jacksonville Chapel to take his first job. I am driving him down there. We are very similar; so, a lot of times, we butt heads.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> We love each other to death, but we butt heads! As we were driving down there, we were doing a little bit of that. We get to his apartment; and I said: \u201cLet\u2019s go to Walmart<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. We\u2019ll get you some stuff for the place.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs God would have it, as I walked through Walmart, somehow, I found myself in the Lego aisle. I saw the new version of the pirate Lego ship. [Laughter] God clearly spoke to me\u2014not in an audible voice\u2014but He just shook me to my foundation. He said, \u201cBuy that.\u201d That was November of 2013, I believe. I left the next day\u2014I got off the plane; I went to Walmart; I bought it; I wrapped it; I took a piece of Legacy Minded Men stationery and I wrote these words\u2014and I\u2019m paraphrasing, because I don\u2019t remember the actual words\u2014but it said: \u201cDear Joey, forgive me for the tardiness of this note; for I have watched so many homeruns hit in your life. [Laughter] I love you!\u201d I wrapped it all up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we gave our gifts out at Christmas, we gave them out as a family. I said: \u201cJoe, here\u2019s one more; but it\u2019s from me to you. You can\u2019t open it up; you have to open up the card first.\u201d He opened up the card; he threw his head back and he said\u2014he put his hand on the box\u2014he said, \u201cI know what\u2019s in here.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou see, I still believe he never hit the ball over my head; but it doesn\u2019t matter. He <em>felt<\/em> that he did, and he felt that his dad wronged him. We need to step up to the plate and right a wrong, even if you don\u2019t think you\u2019re wrong; because legacy is at risk here. You want to make sure that we\u2019re doing the right thing, even if it makes <em>you<\/em> look bad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And know this\u2014there isn\u2019t a young man of any age\u2014and I\u2019m talking about whether he\u2019s 16, 17, or 70\u2014who doesn\u2019t need to hear: \u201cSon, you hit a homerun!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes, sir; absolutely!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cI\u2019m proud of you.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Young men need to be approved\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and need the affirmation of a father.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; they do!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014with a foundation of a relationship in Christ\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014with prayer as a part of your life, with an understanding that \u201cThis is who God has called me to be \/ has made me to be.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And then a commitment to purity\u2014not just sexual purity\u2014but purity of character. Now, you\u2019re ready to tackle your purpose; aren\u2019t you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Amen! Now, we\u2019re on purpose; and this is my\u2014I <em>love<\/em> purpose, because I believe\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I want to just challenge our listeners: \u201cBuckle up your seatbelts\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s right!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cbecause he <em>really<\/em> wants to preach this one.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> I believe there are two types of purposes. I believe purpose number one is a general purpose, which is found in Matthew, Chapter 28, verses 19 and 20, which we all know is the Great Commission: \u201cTherefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.\u201d That is a general purpose, no matter who you are\u2014man or woman\u2014if you are in Christ, that\u2019s what you\u2019re called to do!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo when people say, \u201cI don\u2019t know what my purpose is,\u201d\u2014okay; maybe you don\u2019t know what your <em>specific<\/em> purpose is, but you certainly know what your general purpose is. Let\u2019s not hide behind the fact that we don\u2019t have a purpose. You all have a purpose \/ general purpose: \u201cYou get out there, and you share the gospel with people, and you disciple them. You don\u2019t just share and walk away; you <em>disciple<\/em> them.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then, number two is a specific purpose, which I believe is found in Ephesians, Chapter 2, verse 10, which says, \u201cWe are Christ\u2019s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.\u201d That\u2019s right! The God of creation actually thought of you during creation\/before creation! He created you for a <em>specific<\/em> purpose\u2014a <em>unique<\/em> purpose!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t want to ever hear that you were \u201cbuilt for nothing.\u201d You were built for success, because you were built for purpose. Your life really resides on three things: knowing Christ as your Savior; and then understanding what He has for you; and, not only understanding it, but putting it into action. A man who knows what he\u2019s supposed to do and doesn\u2019t do it is just wasting his life!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> If I had asked you, at 25 years old, \u201cWhat\u2019s your purpose?\u201d What would you have told me?\u2014do you know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> I probably would have said, \u201cI\u2019m going to be a millionaire,\u201d because that\u2019s all I cared about\u2014I didn\u2019t care who I stepped on; I didn\u2019t care what I would have done. Would I have recognized that as purpose?\u2014no; I probably wouldn\u2019t have.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> At what point did you start to go, \u201cGod made me for something, and I\u2019m beginning to understand what my purpose is\u201d?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> It was Legacy Minded Men. My wife and I were operating a ministry called The Faith Foundation, and we were doing a program called Adopt a Child. What that was\u2014was, in Passaic County, New Jersey, we worked with the local division of Youth and Family Services to identify all the children who were abused. We wanted to provide gifts for them. We owned a newspaper at the time; so on the front page of the paper, we would say, \u201cAdopt a Child for the Christmas Season.\u201d We would provide them with the name of the child, their age, their sex, and what their Christmas wish was; and then we would have somebody adopt them for the season. They never actually met them\u2014they would simply wrap the gifts, wrap the gifts, and label the gifts. And every Saturday, from eight o\u2019clock in the morning until noon, we would have cars bringing the gifts.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, in year one, we did 56 children; in year two, 600; in year three, 900; in year four, it was 1500; 1900; 2100; 2500. In the year 2000, my wife and I were named \u201cVolunteers of the Year\u201d in the state of New Jersey. Yet, in the fall of 2008, I just had this tugging that: \u201cYes, this is good; but this is not great. This is good, but this is not eternal.\u201d I felt God calling me to men\u2014calling me to true purpose.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI always say: \u201cYou have to trade something good for something that\u2019s great\u2014your purpose. And when you do, you\u2019re going to tick off some people; but the reality is\u2014that\u2019s where God wants you.\u201d I don\u2019t think we can recognize the sheer power of making a decision like that; because you see, guys, I\u2019m not only the President of Legacy Minded Men, I\u2019m also its best customer. [Laughter] I needed this more than anybody else. I needed the accountability; I needed godly men who were going to love on me enough to tell me the truth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m so tired of hearing how wonderful I am and the pats on the back. I want truth, because I know I\u2019m imperfect; I <em>know<\/em> that I need direction. I screw up in different areas. By the way, my children and my wife are very good at pointing those things out, which I appreciate. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s where purpose was really introduced to me\u2014approximately ten years ago.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Bob raised the issue, when we were talking about purity\u2014that even followers of Christ fail. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Oh, yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> As you talk about purpose, men with purpose can sometimes fail.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And they have to deal with disappointment. You actually had a time in your life when you had to face disappointment around a job change\u2014a career dream that you had.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; we owned a newspaper\u2014called it a newspaper. I wanted to just do my dream company, which was a multi-media company. Back in 1998, multi-media was taking advantage of this new thing called the internet.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe: <\/strong>We started the company\u2014raised $1.3 million effortlessly, because it was tech-stock time. People were literally writing: \u201cHere\u2019s a blank check! Just fill it out!\u201d It was just amazing! I was, I think, 36 years old at the time. One of the New York Yankees\u2014one of the most famous New York Yankees\u2014was our spokesman and one of the owners. It was <em>exciting<\/em>\u2014what was happening.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYet, in the fall\u2014I\u2019m sorry\u2014in the spring of 2000, after all these accolades and all of these write-ups\u2014and actually, we had just done a big business show, where we flew this Yankee in and had 500 business people\u2014we broadcasted part of it live on WFAN Sports Radio, which was the <em>big<\/em> sports radio station in New York\u2014just being written up as a marketing genius. Unfortunately, guys, I started <em>believing<\/em> what was being written. About a month later, we purchased a company on a stock deal; and the company was bankrupt. I lost <em>everything<\/em>\u2014every penny\u2014but there was about $200,000\u2014we don\u2019t remember\u2014I say, in the book, \u201c$200,000\u201d\u2014I think it was a little more than that\u2014\u201cin corporate debt that was going to flow into corporate bankruptcy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI <em>knew<\/em> people that put that money in, who were going to lose this money. I was urged to go bankrupt, personally, but I didn\u2019t think it was biblical. My wife and I said, \u201cNo; we\u2019re going to deal with this.\u201d But corporately, I didn\u2019t have any say\u2014I only owned 31 percent of the company. I went home to my wife and I said: \u201cBeth Ann, this $200,000-plus debt is going to flow into corporate bankruptcy. These people are going to lose their money. I want to take it on personally.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, you have to understand\u2014I just hit her with the fact that we just lost our company, our jobs, everything! Every penny, literally\u2014not one penny I had in the bank. She didn\u2019t even blink her eye\u2014she said, \u201cAbsolutely!\u201d That led me down a <em>difficult<\/em> path; I really had to humble myself\u2014took jobs \/ whatever I had to do to put food on the table. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs a matter of fact, guys, when we moved last year to Vera Beach, Florida\u2014and I had to go through that attic and clean everything out\u2014I kept every tax return from my first tax return. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI started looking at the tax returns of those two years. I looked at the number on it, and I looked at how much I needed to make to pay my mortgage\u2014wasn\u2019t even close. You know those things that bend your mind?\u2014because the only thing you can say is, \u201cThank You, Jesus?\u201d\u2014that\u2019s what it was like!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy God\u2019s grace, several years later, I was able to build another company\u2014sell half of it\u2014and take that money and pay those people off. I know they were shocked that they ever saw that money again, but we felt it was important. And you know something? I could <em>not <\/em>have done Legacy Minded Men unless my back was against the wall, and what came out of me was the real me\u2014and taking on that responsibility and saying, \u201cI\u2019m going to do the hard thing.\u201d Even though I could have easily walked away from it, I had to do the hard thing. That\u2019s why, I believe, God has raised us up.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Joe, there\u2019s a guy listening, undoubtedly, who is thinking: \u201cThis talk about purpose seems like it\u2019s for a different kind of man than me. I\u2019m a husband; I\u2019m a dad; I go to work; I do my life\u2014I\u2019m doing what I\u2019m supposed to be doing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0\u201cThis noble purpose\u2014start a ministry; do big things\u2014I\u2019m just an average guy!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> So: \u201cAverage guy, lead yourself well. Everything starts there. If you have children\/you have a wife, you be the best husband\/the best father you possibly can be. That is purpose and purpose alone! If we\u2019re raising the next generation, and we\u2019re pouring into them, how <em>awesome<\/em> is that?! Have you ever thought of that? You may not think of yourself as a teacher \/ you may not think of yourself as a leader; but as long as God has gifted you with these children, you are <em>both<\/em>! And you\u2019re going to teach with your words; you\u2019re going to teach with your actions; and you\u2019re going to teach when you don\u2019t even know you\u2019re teaching; so make sure you know who you are and that you lead yourself well, so that you can lead your family well. That will spill over into the church \/ into the community, and that\u2019s where transformation happens.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> In the front of my Bible, you can see what I\u2019ve got. It\u2019s a picture of Chuck Colson, and it\u2019s the funeral program that was at the Washington Cathedral. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s what\u2014that average Joe we\u2019re talking about\u2014who doesn\u2019t feel like he\u2019s anybody special\u2014here\u2019s what Colson would say to him\u2014it\u2019s on this program: \u201cRemain at your post and do your duty for the glory of God in His Kingdom.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; amen!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And his life verse follows: \u201cFor to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.\u201d For the man who wants to be all that God created him to be, he\u2019s got to die.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> He has to sacrifice himself and say, \u201cNot my will, but Your will, God.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t know what men, who are listening to this broadcast, are facing\u2014maybe some forks in the road \/ a key obstacle. Stay with us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>1:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us. There\u2019s a little testosterone aroma in the studio today. Have you noticed that?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> You think? I wish our guest had some passion! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Joe Pellegrino joins us. Joe is the founder of Legacy Minded Men. He\u2019s the father of three and has written a book called <em>Transformed: Seven Pillars of a Legacy Minded Man. <\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re talking about, really, men with a mission \/ men on purpose\u2014God\u2019s purpose for their lives. Earlier, we talked about how a legacy-minded man begins as a man of prayer. Secondly, he moves to having a persona\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014that is who God created him to be\u2014a man of the right attitude and character. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis third area of a legacy-minded man is very important.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> It\u2019s called purity. Purity maintains unbroken relationship with God as your leader. You know, when we hear the word, \u201cpurity,\u201d we think of sexual purity. Of course, that\u2019s always key, especially for men, but there are other types of purity as well. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m going to illustrate two of them for you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNumber one: when I went to college, my father\u2019s sex talk that I got was, \u201cBe careful.\u201d I wasn\u2019t; I was a fool! What would have happened if I was led down a different path?\u2014if I had been given words of encouragement and affirmation, understanding who I really was and what I was created to do? It would have been great.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want to share another story about purity\u2014that\u2019s your sexual reign\u2014but\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Before you go on\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014I just want to say a word here. The past few months have been known by the #MeToo. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> This is where Christianity has an answer for some of the anger the world feels when men have acted and behaved as boys\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Absolutely!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and have taken advantage of women. Jesus Christ transforms a boy, who doesn\u2019t know how to control his passions. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> He transforms him when he submits to Jesus Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And he turns those passions into respect and admiration of women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And he protects women.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, let me just make sure; because you said, \u201cJesus Christ transforms a man\u2019s passions.\u201d There have been Christian men, who have acted like fools.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Of course; unfortunately!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Yes; we\u2019re all a step away. King David acted like a fool!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes; so it begins with the transformation in Christ, but a man\u2019s got to walk in a manner worthy in order to live up to that which he\u2019s been called to.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> We live in a world, right now, where we have too many boys. Let\u2019s face it: boys play house; men build them. We have to recognize that there is a time to grow up, and to get out, and to do what we\u2019re called to do! Unfortunately\u2014the generation that\u2019s being raised\u2014they don\u2019t know how to do it\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> \u2014or they\u2019re not doing it: \u201cIt\u2019s more important to be <em>friends<\/em> with our children than to discipline them and love them.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> You had a second illustration on purity you wanted to share with us, though.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; just purity in general\u2014purity of character. This is a powerful story that I had to go through. I sound really bad with it, but it\u2019s the truth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I first spoke about my faith was 1995. A gentleman named Dave Swanson asked me to speak for a group of seventy 70-year-olds, and I did. I was told: \u201cYou go and pray first before you speak\u201d; and I did. I prayed, and wow!\u2014there was not one \u201cah\u201d \/not one \u201cum\u201d\u2014it was awesome! The guys were patting me on the back, \u201cKeep talking, brother.\u201d I\u2019m, \u201cOkay; good,\u201d\u2014that was a Friday. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSaturday, I got a call from Mr. Swanson\u2014he says, \u201cJoe, your cousin, the pastor\u2014I have a cancellation for Yankees chapel. Would love for you to see if you can get him to speak.\u201d I said, \u201cSure.\u201d I called him up; he ends up on a camping trip\u2014so I told Dave this. Dave says: \u201cYou know what? You did such a great job Friday. Why don\u2019t you do the Yankees tomorrow?\u201d I said: \u201cWhat! Are you kidding me?! I\u2019m not doing\u2026\u201d\u2014now, I knew the Yankees; because my first book was called <em>Safe at Home<\/em> about Christian baseball players; so I had <em>known<\/em> all of these guys, but to do <em>church<\/em> for them?!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Now, wait a second! You had been speaking the day before to\u2014how old were they? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Seventy 70-year-olds. [Laughter] Is that a problem?! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I\u2019m just picturing the contrast here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014between that and then the Yankees!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> The New York Yankees; yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014the 28-year-old baseball players!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So how did you do?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Dave did not take \u201cNo,\u201d for an answer; he picked me up. Here\u2019s the interesting part\u2014he would always take a visiting player to breakfast in New York City. This one was Tim Hulett, second baseman for the Baltimore Orioles. He brought Tim to breakfast with us. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe were talking; and Timmy\u2019s telling him: \u201cOne day, Joe, my wife and children are sitting on the front lawn. My wife is reading a magazine; my kids are playing when my wife hears the screech of tires. She puts her magazine down. In horror, she sees our six-year-old son lying in front of a car, dead.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> No.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> He ends up by telling me this\u2014he said, \u201cJoe, I know I\u2019m going to see him again.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe get in the car; we go to Yankee Stadium. I\u2019m still\u2014you know, in this: \u201cWow! This is unbelievable.\u201d They put me in\u2014and this was the old Yankee Stadium, guys, so there were three locker rooms: Yankees, visitors, and an umpires\u2019 room. I\u2019m in the umpires\u2019 room. I did exactly what I did on Friday\u2014I went in the bathroom and I prayed. I said, \u201cLord, take me over.\u201d The Baltimore Orioles\u2014eight of them came in\u2014same message as Friday. It was awesome!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00 <\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI had 15 minutes between the Orioles and the Yankees. What did I do? Did I go in that bathroom again and pray? No; I started walking around in circles, thinking: \u201cI\u2019m really good; really good. I\u2019m better than my pastor.\u201d By the time I finished patting myself on the back, the door flies open. I\u2019ll never forget\u2014Willie Randolph is the first one\u2014he is like, \u201cWhat are you doing here, man?!\u201d I said, \u201cOh, I\u2019m preaching today!\u201d I am thinking to myself: \u201cMan! Are you going to be blessed!\u201d\u2014I didn\u2019t say it out loud\u2014but that\u2019s what I was thinking.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSeventeen Yankees\u2014and one of my boyhood idols, Don Mattingly, sitting directly across from me\u2014Dave Swanson introduces me: \u201c\u2026a local businessman\u2026\u201d blah-blah-blah. I opened my mouth, guys\u2014nothing comes out. I forgot <em>everything <\/em>I was going to say. To make matters worse, I was doing the \u201chomina\u201d\/\u201dhomina\u201d [stuttering and unable to speak clearly] thing. I started telling a story about how I met Mr. Swanson; and I may have\u2014well, taken a little bit of an extreme\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014embellished the story?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Just a <em>little<\/em> bit; just a little bit!\u2014so much so that Dave actually said, \u201cThat wasn\u2019t true.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014in front of the Yankees?!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> I tell people, \u201cIf you want be humbled, be called a liar while doing chapel for the New York Yankees.\u201d [Laughter] These are purity issues, guys\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> \u2014because when we lose identity \/ we lose who we are, we can sway to the left or to the right. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe talk countlessly about how purity\u2014sexual purity is so important\u2014but there are other types of purity. We need to be pure in <em>spirit<\/em>\u2014that\u2019s a very difficult thing\u2014and that\u2019s why we need to surround ourselves with men, who are going to hold us accountable and teach us the right way.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> So, if you had five minutes, as a father with a son, and you could talk to your son about purity of character and about sexual purity, what kind of a charge would you give him?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> I would tell him that: \u201cIn Proverbs 14:12, it says, \u2018There is a way that seems right to a man; but in the end, it leads to death.\u2019 Know, without a doubt, what you believe; why you believe it; and what the Word of God says. You can never, ever go wrong.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> So tell me what that looks like with your adult sons, because it\u2019s one thing to charge a young lad, who\u2019s about to go through adolescence or already is a teenager\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014but it\u2019s another thing to have an adult son, who\u2019s facing the issues today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> They\u2019re coming at him, left and right, because of this little screen they carry around in their pockets.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes, sir. With my youngest son, we have Covenant Eyes on everything he has. He\u2019s accountable to me; and he has asked, himself, to be accountable to me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And you\u2019re accountable to him too; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> I\u2019m accountable to everybody. Anybody that asks me a question will get an answer.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> It\u2019 essential.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tMy older son is somebody that I\u2019ll need to share this story [about]. It\u2019s really a powerful story of redemption, and it will speak to your point. My son was eight years old. I would take him to the side of the house, and I would teach him how to play baseball. The deal was: \u201cIf you hit the ball over my head, I\u2019m going to buy you that pirate Lego<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> ship you\u2019ve always wanted,\u201d which was expensive for me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe long-and-short is\u2014he never hit the ball over my head\u2014or so I say. For years, he would always say, \u2018You never got me that pirate Lego ship.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd I would say, \u201cYou never hit the ball over my head.\u201d When he was 23- or 24-years-old\u2014I forget now\u2014we were moving him down from New Jersey to Jacksonville Chapel to take his first job. I am driving him down there. We are very similar; so, a lot of times, we butt heads.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> We love each other to death, but we butt heads! As we were driving down there, we were doing a little bit of that. We get to his apartment; and I said: \u201cLet\u2019s go to Walmart<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. We\u2019ll get you some stuff for the place.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs God would have it, as I walked through Walmart, somehow, I found myself in the Lego aisle. I saw the new version of the pirate Lego ship. [Laughter] God clearly spoke to me\u2014not in an audible voice\u2014but He just shook me to my foundation. He said, \u201cBuy that.\u201d That was November of 2013, I believe. I left the next day\u2014I got off the plane; I went to Walmart; I bought it; I wrapped it; I took a piece of Legacy Minded Men stationery and I wrote these words\u2014and I\u2019m paraphrasing, because I don\u2019t remember the actual words\u2014but it said: \u201cDear Joey, forgive me for the tardiness of this note; for I have watched so many homeruns hit in your life. [Laughter] I love you!\u201d I wrapped it all up. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen we gave our gifts out at Christmas, we gave them out as a family. I said: \u201cJoe, here\u2019s one more; but it\u2019s from me to you. You can\u2019t open it up; you have to open up the card first.\u201d He opened up the card; he threw his head back and he said\u2014he put his hand on the box\u2014he said, \u201cI know what\u2019s in here.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou see, I still believe he never hit the ball over my head; but it doesn\u2019t matter. He <em>felt<\/em> that he did, and he felt that his dad wronged him. We need to step up to the plate and right a wrong, even if you don\u2019t think you\u2019re wrong; because legacy is at risk here. You want to make sure that we\u2019re doing the right thing, even if it makes <em>you<\/em> look bad.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And know this\u2014there isn\u2019t a young man of any age\u2014and I\u2019m talking about whether he\u2019s 16, 17, or 70\u2014who doesn\u2019t need to hear: \u201cSon, you hit a homerun!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes, sir; absolutely!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u201cI\u2019m proud of you.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Young men need to be approved\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014and need the affirmation of a father.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; they do!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014with a foundation of a relationship in Christ\u2014 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> \u2014with prayer as a part of your life, with an understanding that \u201cThis is who God has called me to be \/ has made me to be.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And then a commitment to purity\u2014not just sexual purity\u2014but purity of character. Now, you\u2019re ready to tackle your purpose; aren\u2019t you?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Amen! Now, we\u2019re on purpose; and this is my\u2014I <em>love<\/em> purpose, because I believe\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> I want to just challenge our listeners: \u201cBuckle up your seatbelts\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> That\u2019s right!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> \u2014\u201cbecause he <em>really<\/em> wants to preach this one.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> I believe there are two types of purposes. I believe purpose number one is a general purpose, which is found in Matthew, Chapter 28, verses 19 and 20, which we all know is the Great Commission: \u201cTherefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.\u201d That is a general purpose, no matter who you are\u2014man or woman\u2014if you are in Christ, that\u2019s what you\u2019re called to do!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo when people say, \u201cI don\u2019t know what my purpose is,\u201d\u2014okay; maybe you don\u2019t know what your <em>specific<\/em> purpose is, but you certainly know what your general purpose is. Let\u2019s not hide behind the fact that we don\u2019t have a purpose. You all have a purpose \/ general purpose: \u201cYou get out there, and you share the gospel with people, and you disciple them. You don\u2019t just share and walk away; you <em>disciple<\/em> them.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then, number two is a specific purpose, which I believe is found in Ephesians, Chapter 2, verse 10, which says, \u201cWe are Christ\u2019s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.\u201d That\u2019s right! The God of creation actually thought of you during creation\/before creation! He created you for a <em>specific<\/em> purpose\u2014a <em>unique<\/em> purpose!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t want to ever hear that you were \u201cbuilt for nothing.\u201d You were built for success, because you were built for purpose. Your life really resides on three things: knowing Christ as your Savior; and then understanding what He has for you; and, not only understanding it, but putting it into action. A man who knows what he\u2019s supposed to do and doesn\u2019t do it is just wasting his life!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> If I had asked you, at 25 years old, \u201cWhat\u2019s your purpose?\u201d What would you have told me?\u2014do you know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> I probably would have said, \u201cI\u2019m going to be a millionaire,\u201d because that\u2019s all I cared about\u2014I didn\u2019t care who I stepped on; I didn\u2019t care what I would have done. Would I have recognized that as purpose?\u2014no; I probably wouldn\u2019t have.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> At what point did you start to go, \u201cGod made me for something, and I\u2019m beginning to understand what my purpose is\u201d?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> It was Legacy Minded Men. My wife and I were operating a ministry called The Faith Foundation, and we were doing a program called Adopt a Child. What that was\u2014was, in Passaic County, New Jersey, we worked with the local division of Youth and Family Services to identify all the children who were abused. We wanted to provide gifts for them. We owned a newspaper at the time; so on the front page of the paper, we would say, \u201cAdopt a Child for the Christmas Season.\u201d We would provide them with the name of the child, their age, their sex, and what their Christmas wish was; and then we would have somebody adopt them for the season. They never actually met them\u2014they would simply wrap the gifts, wrap the gifts, and label the gifts. And every Saturday, from eight o\u2019clock in the morning until noon, we would have cars bringing the gifts.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, in year one, we did 56 children; in year two, 600; in year three, 900; in year four, it was 1500; 1900; 2100; 2500. In the year 2000, my wife and I were named \u201cVolunteers of the Year\u201d in the state of New Jersey. Yet, in the fall of 2008, I just had this tugging that: \u201cYes, this is good; but this is not great. This is good, but this is not eternal.\u201d I felt God calling me to men\u2014calling me to true purpose.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI always say: \u201cYou have to trade something good for something that\u2019s great\u2014your purpose. And when you do, you\u2019re going to tick off some people; but the reality is\u2014that\u2019s where God wants you.\u201d I don\u2019t think we can recognize the sheer power of making a decision like that; because you see, guys, I\u2019m not only the President of Legacy Minded Men, I\u2019m also its best customer. [Laughter] I needed this more than anybody else. I needed the accountability; I needed godly men who were going to love on me enough to tell me the truth. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m so tired of hearing how wonderful I am and the pats on the back. I want truth, because I know I\u2019m imperfect; I <em>know<\/em> that I need direction. I screw up in different areas. By the way, my children and my wife are very good at pointing those things out, which I appreciate. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> That\u2019s where purpose was really introduced to me\u2014approximately ten years ago.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> Bob raised the issue, when we were talking about purity\u2014that even followers of Christ fail. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Oh, yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> As you talk about purpose, men with purpose can sometimes fail.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And they have to deal with disappointment. You actually had a time in your life when you had to face disappointment around a job change\u2014a career dream that you had.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; we owned a newspaper\u2014called it a newspaper. I wanted to just do my dream company, which was a multi-media company. Back in 1998, multi-media was taking advantage of this new thing called the internet.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe: <\/strong>We started the company\u2014raised $1.3 million effortlessly, because it was tech-stock time. People were literally writing: \u201cHere\u2019s a blank check! Just fill it out!\u201d It was just amazing! I was, I think, 36 years old at the time. One of the New York Yankees\u2014one of the most famous New York Yankees\u2014was our spokesman and one of the owners. It was <em>exciting<\/em>\u2014what was happening.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYet, in the fall\u2014I\u2019m sorry\u2014in the spring of 2000, after all these accolades and all of these write-ups\u2014and actually, we had just done a big business show, where we flew this Yankee in and had 500 business people\u2014we broadcasted part of it live on WFAN Sports Radio, which was the <em>big<\/em> sports radio station in New York\u2014just being written up as a marketing genius. Unfortunately, guys, I started <em>believing<\/em> what was being written. About a month later, we purchased a company on a stock deal; and the company was bankrupt. I lost <em>everything<\/em>\u2014every penny\u2014but there was about $200,000\u2014we don\u2019t remember\u2014I say, in the book, \u201c$200,000\u201d\u2014I think it was a little more than that\u2014\u201cin corporate debt that was going to flow into corporate bankruptcy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI <em>knew<\/em> people that put that money in, who were going to lose this money. I was urged to go bankrupt, personally, but I didn\u2019t think it was biblical. My wife and I said, \u201cNo; we\u2019re going to deal with this.\u201d But corporately, I didn\u2019t have any say\u2014I only owned 31 percent of the company. I went home to my wife and I said: \u201cBeth Ann, this $200,000-plus debt is going to flow into corporate bankruptcy. These people are going to lose their money. I want to take it on personally.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, you have to understand\u2014I just hit her with the fact that we just lost our company, our jobs, everything! Every penny, literally\u2014not one penny I had in the bank. She didn\u2019t even blink her eye\u2014she said, \u201cAbsolutely!\u201d That led me down a <em>difficult<\/em> path; I really had to humble myself\u2014took jobs \/ whatever I had to do to put food on the table. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs a matter of fact, guys, when we moved last year to Vera Beach, Florida\u2014and I had to go through that attic and clean everything out\u2014I kept every tax return from my first tax return. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI started looking at the tax returns of those two years. I looked at the number on it, and I looked at how much I needed to make to pay my mortgage\u2014wasn\u2019t even close. You know those things that bend your mind?\u2014because the only thing you can say is, \u201cThank You, Jesus?\u201d\u2014that\u2019s what it was like!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBy God\u2019s grace, several years later, I was able to build another company\u2014sell half of it\u2014and take that money and pay those people off. I know they were shocked that they ever saw that money again, but we felt it was important. And you know something? I could <em>not <\/em>have done Legacy Minded Men unless my back was against the wall, and what came out of me was the real me\u2014and taking on that responsibility and saying, \u201cI\u2019m going to do the hard thing.\u201d Even though I could have easily walked away from it, I had to do the hard thing. That\u2019s why, I believe, God has raised us up.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Joe, there\u2019s a guy listening, undoubtedly, who is thinking: \u201cThis talk about purpose seems like it\u2019s for a different kind of man than me. I\u2019m a husband; I\u2019m a dad; I go to work; I do my life\u2014I\u2019m doing what I\u2019m supposed to be doing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u00a0\u201cThis noble purpose\u2014start a ministry; do big things\u2014I\u2019m just an average guy!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> So: \u201cAverage guy, lead yourself well. Everything starts there. If you have children\/you have a wife, you be the best husband\/the best father you possibly can be. That is purpose and purpose alone! If we\u2019re raising the next generation, and we\u2019re pouring into them, how <em>awesome<\/em> is that?! Have you ever thought of that? You may not think of yourself as a teacher \/ you may not think of yourself as a leader; but as long as God has gifted you with these children, you are <em>both<\/em>! And you\u2019re going to teach with your words; you\u2019re going to teach with your actions; and you\u2019re going to teach when you don\u2019t even know you\u2019re teaching; so make sure you know who you are and that you lead yourself well, so that you can lead your family well. That will spill over into the church \/ into the community, and that\u2019s where transformation happens.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> In the front of my Bible, you can see what I\u2019ve got. It\u2019s a picture of Chuck Colson, and it\u2019s the funeral program that was at the Washington Cathedral. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s what\u2014that average Joe we\u2019re talking about\u2014who doesn\u2019t feel like he\u2019s anybody special\u2014here\u2019s what Colson would say to him\u2014it\u2019s on this program: \u201cRemain at your post and do your duty for the glory of God in His Kingdom.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Yes; amen!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> And his life verse follows: \u201cFor to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.\u201d For the man who wants to be all that God created him to be, he\u2019s got to die.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Joe:<\/strong> Amen.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis:<\/strong> He has to sacrifice himself and say, \u201cNot my will, but Your will, God.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t know what men, who are listening to this broadcast, are facing\u2014maybe some forks in the road \/ a key obstacle.
