Thanks for joining us. We\u2019re spending some time hearing from your wife this week about the sufficiency of God. You know, I think about what the Bible has to say about God having given us in His Word everything pertaining to life and godliness. It takes time\u2014but over time, hopefully\u2014we learn that once you realize God is all you have, then you realize God is all you need.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And He\u2019s patient with us as we come to that conclusion.\u00a0 The cool thing is you\u2019re going to hear from a very wise woman whom I love dearly\u2014Barbara Rainey. I was thinking, Bob, some of our listeners can remember this\u2014most of them don\u2019t have any idea what I\u2019m talking about\u2014but there used to be an advertisement that started like this, \u201cWhen E.F. Does it even exist today?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u201cWho was he talking about?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>He\u2019s a stockbroker.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen Barbara talks, I listen, because she\u2019s very thoughtful\u2014very precise\u2014and I can promise you what you\u2019re about to hear in this message\u2014and the first part of the message we\u2019ve already heard\u2014but she talks about how you can view the present and the future\u2014as a woman or a man, as far as that goes\u2014and trust God with what you\u2019re facing today. She\u2019s a real student of the Bible, so she has some really gritty stuff to say from the Scriptures.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This was a message that she gave to a group of women at a retreat at The Cove\u2014in Asheville, North Carolina recently\u2014and it\u2019s all about God being enough. As you said, we\u2019ve already heard about how God is enough for our past, and now we\u2019re going to hear about how He is enough for the present. Here\u2019s Barbara.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Number two\u2014our second story\u2014is going to show us God the Father is enough for our present tense\u2014for our todays\u2014every day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen Dennis and I were raising our kids, one of the things that we did pretty regularly was we went out for a weekly date night. It was life for me. One night we went out for our weekly date night\u2014we always did Sunday night because our church didn\u2019t have Sunday night services\u2014and that was the easiest night for us to get away that was usually open on the calendar. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2014at that time\u2014only had two teenagers left at home, they were 14 and 15. As we walked out the door for our weekly date night, we said to the girls\u2014the two girls, \u201cNow, you have homework to do, we want you to do your homework\u2014we want you to get your work done, and then you can read a book\u2014but no TV. Got it?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cOh yes, sure, we got it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDennis and I walked out the door, and as we walked out the door\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I called over my shoulder, before the door slammed, I said, \u201cDon\u2019t forget, what did I say? No TV, right?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cGot it, no TV.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDennis and I went to dinner, we were gone about three hours\u2014maybe four\u2014I don\u2019t know. We came home, and as we were coming in Dennis said to me\u2014he looked at me and he said, \u201cI\u2019m going to turn the lights off on the car, and let\u2019s just kind of slide in quietly, stealthily, and see\u2014let\u2019s just check on the girls.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo he turned off the lights and we rolled down the hill really quietly, turned the car in, and parked\u2014of course, they didn\u2019t know we were there because they didn\u2019t see anybody coming. We got out of the car and we walked around to the front of the house. Our sidewalk went across the front, and we stopped in front of the dining room windows, and we looked in the dining room windows, and there, through the dining room windows, and beyond the dining room was our kitchen. In the dining room windows we could see this bright blue glow. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was a dead giveaway, and as we looked we could see they were propped up in the kitchen, glued to the television.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo Dennis said to me\u2014he said, \u201cYou stay here and keep watching them through the window. I\u2019m going to go around back and come in the back door, and you see what happens.\u201d I said, \u201cGreat.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis is one of those times when parents get the upper edge, and it felt so good. I have to tell you, it felt so good, because I can\u2019t tell you how many times we had no idea who did what, who was right, who the guilty party was\u2014and this time we knew. There was no dispute.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, he walked around to the back door, opened the door, jingled his keys for a while, and said, \u201cGirls, we\u2019re home!\u201d I mean, they jumped as quick as they could. The TV went off, the books were open, they were sitting there, studious, just little angels\u2014little angels. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe walked in and he said, \u201cGirls, how was your evening?\u201d \u201cGreat, great, great.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cSo\u2026did you get your homework done?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYes, we\u2019re working on it,\u201d you know.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cDid you watch any TV?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat do you think they said?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cOh, no, we didn\u2019t watch any TV.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe said, \u201cAre you sure?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cNo, Dad\u2014we didn\u2019t watch any TV.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cOkay,\u201d he said. \u201cI want you to turn around, look over your shoulder, and look out that window, and I want you to wave at your mom. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cShe\u2019s been standing there watching you watch TV.\u201d [Laughter] They were toast. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI came in and we had a little conversation about it, and we decided\u2014Dennis and I decided\u2014that we were going to ground them for a month. First of all, they broke the rule\u2014they were not supposed to watch TV\u2014and they did. Secondly, they lied about it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of our standards for what we discipline for in our house was lying, and it comes from Proverbs chapter 6 that says, \u201cThese six things the Lord hates,\u201d and then it says, \u201cyes, seven,\u201d and a lying tongue is one of the six things\u2014seven things\u2014that God hates. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe decided as parents early on\u2014real early on\u2014that we were going to discipline our kids for the things that God says He hates\u2014and God says He hates a lying tongue. He also says He hates a haughty spirit and hands that shed innocent blood\u2014and to me that meant kids that bite and hit and that kind of thing. Those are the things we disciplined for. They knew that lying was one of the things at the top of the list\u2014so we grounded them for an entire month.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey weren\u2019t happy, obviously. They felt like it was unfair. They felt like we were kind of over-the-top in grounding them for an entire month. They tried to negotiate with us. They\u2019re going, \u201cWell, we didn\u2019t watch it for that long,\u201d you know\u2014that kind of thing. Do your kids ever do that? Negotiate? Mm-hmm. Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet me ask you this: Do you ever negotiate with God? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want us to look at a passage in the Old Testament, so turn with me in your Bibles to Isaiah 45. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI love this chapter in the Old Testament, and the context for this chapter is prophecy. In this chapter, God is foretelling something that is going to happen hundreds of years in the future. In this chapter, He repeats a statement about Himself four times, and this is what I want us to look at. Turn to Isaiah 45, and we\u2019re going to start in verse 22. I\u2019m going to read backwards\u2014which we don\u2019t normally do\u2014but I have a reason for it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cTurn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth, for I am God, and there is no other.\u201d That\u2019s the repeated phrase.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tVerse 18, \u201cFor thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and established it, He made it and did not create it a waste place), \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2018I am the LORD, and there is no other.\u2019\u201d Number two.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNumber three is verse 5\u2014\u201cI am the LORD, and there is no other, besides Me there is no God.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then in verse 6 He says, \u201c\u2026that men may know, from the rising of the sun to the setting of the sun, that there is no one besides Me.\u201d Four times God says it, and then He finishes at the end of verse 6 and says, \u201cI am the LORD, and there is no other.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I want us to read verse 7 together. Ready? It comes after the end of verse 6. It\u2019s actually a continuation of verse 6, because verse 6 doesn\u2019t end with a period, it ends with a comma. \u201cI am the LORD, and there is no other, the One forming light and creating darkness, causing well-being and creating calamity? I am the LORD, who does all these things.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow did that make you feel when you read that? Maybe you\u2019ve read that for the first time. I read it for the first time maybe ten or 15 years ago. \u201cI am the LORD, who creates darkness, who causes well-being and creates calamity.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI didn\u2019t like that so much! That felt really disconcerting to me. It was stunning\u2014it was shocking. It\u2019s like, \u201cGod creates calamity?\u201d For years I thought that the only person who created calamity was Satan, and I thought it only happened to bad people\u2014not good people\u2014and I certainly didn\u2019t think God created calamity.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe thing that\u2019s interesting to me about this verse\u2014well, a bunch of things are interesting\u2014one is that I looked up the word \u201ccalamity,\u201d and it\u2019s a Hebrew adjective that means \u201cbad\u201d\u2014it means \u201cadversity\u201d\u2014it means \u201caffliction\u201d. It\u2019s like, \u201cOkay, it means what I think it means.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen I looked up \u201ccreate\u201d and \u201ccause,\u201d and those two words mean \u201cto fashion or to make\u201d or \u201cto accomplish\u201d. So, \u201ccreate calamity\u201d means just what it says.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJust like our teenage daughters, who felt our discipline was harsh\u2014it was a calamity in their lives\u2014but we gave it to them for their good, because we knew that they needed it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur teenagers felt like their suffering\u2014which was caused by us for a whole month\u2014was too extreme. They felt it was too unfair, but we had a higher good in mind. We were training them in righteousness.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s a great reminder to me of my relationship with God. I view things that He does\u2014oftentimes\u2014as bad, I don\u2019t like it\u2014it feels unfair; it feels extreme. But God says, \u201cI have a higher good in mind. I always have a higher good in mind.\u201d He is always working for us for our good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAt the heart of Isaiah 45:7 is the question of God\u2019s sovereignty. Is He in control\u2014or not? It\u2019s a question we have to wrestle with\u2014and answer. Do we believe He is in control, or not? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen the second question is: Does He have the authority to decide what is good and what is not good? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe think we have the authority to decide what\u2019s good and not good\u2014but God is the one who is in charge.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s the third question: Can He do something that feels bad to us and still be loving? The answer is yes, because we did something that felt really bad to our girls. They didn\u2019t like it, they were restricted; it felt bad to them. It felt like a calamity to them, but we did it because we loved them. We had good in mind for them, we had a higher purpose in mind for them\u2014and so God does for us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m going to read you something that\u2019s written in a Hebrew commentary that really was\u2014I think is so well written\u2014about this verse\u2014just to put some of you at ease in your thinking, because this will say it much better than I can say it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cGod does not just allow darkness and calamity and then blame someone else.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHe creates the problems of human history. Evil is not outside of God\u2019s control. He uses it without being dirtied by it. Let\u2019s stop trying to rescue God from a problem He created for Himself by claiming full mastery over all things. Let\u2019s not relieve God of His responsibilities as King of the universe.\u201d \u2014Isn\u2019t that good? \u2014 \u201cThe very thing that we humans perceive as a problem, God perceives as His glory. God owns the dark moments of life.\u201d I love that\u2014\u201cGod owns the dark moments of life.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHe bends everything around for His saving purpose. When Isaiah wrote this so long ago, he did not overlook a problem or a difficulty that we brainy, modern people happen to notice.\u201d \u2014We tend to think that way; don\u2019t we? We think we\u2019re a whole lot smarter than those people who lived back in the Old Testament times. \u201cIsaiah 45:7 is not an embarrassment\u2014it\u2019s what we love about God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNot even evil can frustrate Him, and His surprising strategies are our assurance. He is proving to us that, \u2018I am the LORD, and there is no other.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI hope that encourages you and comforts you and helps you make peace with this God of ours who is very, very good but who also isn\u2019t always safe. None of us know what the rest of today will bring. None of us know what the next hour will bring\u2014we don\u2019t know what tomorrow will bring. We woke up with plans for our day this morning; didn\u2019t we? We knew what we were going to do next\u2014we knew where we were going to go\u2014we know what time we\u2019re going to leave here this morning.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSomeone else once woke up with plans for the day\u2014thinking that everything was going to go as planned\u2014and his name was Job. He got up one day expecting the usual, and by the time the day was over\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014everything in his life had changed. I used to not be a fan of Job, but I have really come to appreciate so much about this man and what he did and his response. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHis response, at the end of his day, when he had learned that everything in his life had been taken away and ruined\u2014all his children, all his livelihood, all his stock, his animals, everything was gone\u2014\u201cHe said, \u2018Naked I came from my mother\u2019s womb and naked I shall return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.\u2019 Through all this Job did not sin, nor did he blame God.\u201d He did not blame God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe thing that I find remarkable about this is that he said, \u201cThe LORD has taken away.\u201d\u00a0 He didn\u2019t say, \u201cSatan has taken away.\u201d He knew that God was ultimately in control\u2014God was in charge\u2014God was sovereign. God was the One who took all of that away, and he worshipped and praised Him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEven though it hurt and he didn\u2019t like it\u2014he praised God\u2014because he knew God had good in mind. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want that to be my response. When I read those verses\u2014when I read what Job said, I want that to be my response when hard things come in my life. I don\u2019t mean to frighten any of you with this, because I used to be frightened by Job\u2019s story. I didn\u2019t want to read it. Kind of like the disciples, I didn\u2019t want to get close because I didn\u2019t want any of that to happen to me. I didn\u2019t like his story. I didn\u2019t like reading about calamity and hard things, because I didn\u2019t want to be touched by it. I wanted to be comfortable and I wanted to be pain-free in my life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m not intending to frighten you. I don\u2019t want anyone to walk out of here scared to death about the shoe dropping or whatever. But what I do want you to see is that when the day of calamity does come, He will be enough for you in that day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe has been enough for me in a lot of calamities in my life, and I have learned that He is enough, and that\u2019s the most important thing for you to take away from here today, is that there will be hard times. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJesus said, \u201cIn this world you will have trouble.\u201d Jesus doesn\u2019t lie. There are hard things, and He wants us to know that He will be enough\u2014no matter what He brings our way. If He is enough for the day of calamity, He will be enough for my today\u2014for my next hour, for this afternoon, for tonight\u2014He will be enough for today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo my question for you is: Will you choose to believe that He is always acting with good and loving purposes for you? Will you see Him as He really is\u2014not as you want Him to be? That was a big adjustment for me, because I wanted God to be a certain way. I wanted Him to be safe\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and when I began to see that He isn\u2019t always safe it was good for me to see God as He really is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, we\u2019ve been listening to part two of a message from Barbara Rainey about God being enough in our lives. It\u2019s one thing to trust God when the storm has passed and to say, \u201cYou know what? God saw me through that and He can be trusted.\u201d But when the wind is blowing and the rain is beating on the roof, there are times when we go, \u201cGod, are You here? Do You care?\u201d We wonder; don\u2019t we?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We do. I just want to go somebody else who talked about the rain and the wind. It\u2019s Jesus\u2014in Matthew 7:24. If this is where you are right now in the present\u2014where Barbara was talking about\u2014I want you to listen to what this might say to you, because these are the words of the Creator of the universe\u2014Jesus Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cEveryone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds\u2014\u201d yes, that\u2019s the winds Bob was talking about \u201c\u2014the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think the instruction of Christ is here, whatever you\u2019re facing\u2014look outside the window, and if it\u2019s pouring outside, if the wind\u2019s pounding, if the floods are bursting against the house, it\u2019s going to reveal what your house has been built on.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHearing the words of Christ and doing them\u2014being a wise person, not a fool\u2014don\u2019t be a fool and give up on God in the present.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Okay, you have built your house on the rock\u2014but you still experience anxiety.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, yes. In fact\u2014as you said that it\u2019s like, yes, you can build your house on the rock\u2014but that doesn\u2019t make you exempt from feeling it when the storms hit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, in those moments when there is fear\u2014when you are anxious\u2014how do you counsel your own heart in those moments?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I wish I could tell you I counsel my own heart perfectly. Sometimes it takes Barbara to come alongside me and remind me of the Truth. More than once in the past six months she\u2019s kind of come alongside me and just said, \u201cHey, God\u2019s not done with us\u2014not done with you.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think there are some spouses who need to realize the power of their words to remind their spouse of the truth.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Your words can counsel\u2014as Bob was talking about\u2014counsel your soul\u2014and on the other hand, you also can counsel your own soul. You can remind yourself of the truth. Has God said He\u2019s going to abandon you? No, He said He\u2019d be with you, even to the end of the age. His presence will go with you. He has a plan. Ephesians 2:10, \u201cWe are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.\u201d That\u2019s a pretty profound promise for the present.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, and I think, in the middle of the storm, are you going to look at the weather radar or are you going to look at the One who controls the weather; right? As you said, we\u2019ve already heard about how God is enough for our past, and now we\u2019re going to hear about how He is enough for the present. Here\u2019s Barbara.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Barbara: <\/strong>Number two\u2014our second story\u2014is going to show us God the Father is enough for our present tense\u2014for our todays\u2014every day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen Dennis and I were raising our kids, one of the things that we did pretty regularly was we went out for a weekly date night. It was life for me. One night we went out for our weekly date night\u2014we always did Sunday night because our church didn\u2019t have Sunday night services\u2014and that was the easiest night for us to get away that was usually open on the calendar. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe\u2014at that time\u2014only had two teenagers left at home, they were 14 and 15. As we walked out the door for our weekly date night, we said to the girls\u2014the two girls, \u201cNow, you have homework to do, we want you to do your homework\u2014we want you to get your work done, and then you can read a book\u2014but no TV. Got it?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cOh yes, sure, we got it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDennis and I walked out the door, and as we walked out the door\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I called over my shoulder, before the door slammed, I said, \u201cDon\u2019t forget, what did I say? No TV, right?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cGot it, no TV.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tDennis and I went to dinner, we were gone about three hours\u2014maybe four\u2014I don\u2019t know. We came home, and as we were coming in Dennis said to me\u2014he looked at me and he said, \u201cI\u2019m going to turn the lights off on the car, and let\u2019s just kind of slide in quietly, stealthily, and see\u2014let\u2019s just check on the girls.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo he turned off the lights and we rolled down the hill really quietly, turned the car in, and parked\u2014of course, they didn\u2019t know we were there because they didn\u2019t see anybody coming. We got out of the car and we walked around to the front of the house. Our sidewalk went across the front, and we stopped in front of the dining room windows, and we looked in the dining room windows, and there, through the dining room windows, and beyond the dining room was our kitchen. In the dining room windows we could see this bright blue glow. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt was a dead giveaway, and as we looked we could see they were propped up in the kitchen, glued to the television.\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo Dennis said to me\u2014he said, \u201cYou stay here and keep watching them through the window. I\u2019m going to go around back and come in the back door, and you see what happens.\u201d I said, \u201cGreat.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThis is one of those times when parents get the upper edge, and it felt so good. I have to tell you, it felt so good, because I can\u2019t tell you how many times we had no idea who did what, who was right, who the guilty party was\u2014and this time we knew. There was no dispute.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, he walked around to the back door, opened the door, jingled his keys for a while, and said, \u201cGirls, we\u2019re home!\u201d I mean, they jumped as quick as they could. The TV went off, the books were open, they were sitting there, studious, just little angels\u2014little angels. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe walked in and he said, \u201cGirls, how was your evening?\u201d \u201cGreat, great, great.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cSo\u2026did you get your homework done?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cYes, we\u2019re working on it,\u201d you know.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cDid you watch any TV?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat do you think they said?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cOh, no, we didn\u2019t watch any TV.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe said, \u201cAre you sure?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cNo, Dad\u2014we didn\u2019t watch any TV.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cOkay,\u201d he said. \u201cI want you to turn around, look over your shoulder, and look out that window, and I want you to wave at your mom. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cShe\u2019s been standing there watching you watch TV.\u201d [Laughter] They were toast. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI came in and we had a little conversation about it, and we decided\u2014Dennis and I decided\u2014that we were going to ground them for a month. First of all, they broke the rule\u2014they were not supposed to watch TV\u2014and they did. Secondly, they lied about it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of our standards for what we discipline for in our house was lying, and it comes from Proverbs chapter 6 that says, \u201cThese six things the Lord hates,\u201d and then it says, \u201cyes, seven,\u201d and a lying tongue is one of the six things\u2014seven things\u2014that God hates. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe decided as parents early on\u2014real early on\u2014that we were going to discipline our kids for the things that God says He hates\u2014and God says He hates a lying tongue. He also says He hates a haughty spirit and hands that shed innocent blood\u2014and to me that meant kids that bite and hit and that kind of thing. Those are the things we disciplined for. They knew that lying was one of the things at the top of the list\u2014so we grounded them for an entire month.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey weren\u2019t happy, obviously. They felt like it was unfair. They felt like we were kind of over-the-top in grounding them for an entire month. They tried to negotiate with us. They\u2019re going, \u201cWell, we didn\u2019t watch it for that long,\u201d you know\u2014that kind of thing. Do your kids ever do that? Negotiate? Mm-hmm. Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tLet me ask you this: Do you ever negotiate with God? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want us to look at a passage in the Old Testament, so turn with me in your Bibles to Isaiah 45. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI love this chapter in the Old Testament, and the context for this chapter is prophecy. In this chapter, God is foretelling something that is going to happen hundreds of years in the future. In this chapter, He repeats a statement about Himself four times, and this is what I want us to look at. Turn to Isaiah 45, and we\u2019re going to start in verse 22. I\u2019m going to read backwards\u2014which we don\u2019t normally do\u2014but I have a reason for it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cTurn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth, for I am God, and there is no other.\u201d That\u2019s the repeated phrase.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tVerse 18, \u201cFor thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and established it, He made it and did not create it a waste place), \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2018I am the LORD, and there is no other.\u2019\u201d Number two.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNumber three is verse 5\u2014\u201cI am the LORD, and there is no other, besides Me there is no God.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then in verse 6 He says, \u201c\u2026that men may know, from the rising of the sun to the setting of the sun, that there is no one besides Me.\u201d Four times God says it, and then He finishes at the end of verse 6 and says, \u201cI am the LORD, and there is no other.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, I want us to read verse 7 together. Ready? It comes after the end of verse 6. It\u2019s actually a continuation of verse 6, because verse 6 doesn\u2019t end with a period, it ends with a comma. \u201cI am the LORD, and there is no other, the One forming light and creating darkness, causing well-being and creating calamity? I am the LORD, who does all these things.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHow did that make you feel when you read that? Maybe you\u2019ve read that for the first time. I read it for the first time maybe ten or 15 years ago. \u201cI am the LORD, who creates darkness, who causes well-being and creates calamity.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI didn\u2019t like that so much! That felt really disconcerting to me. It was stunning\u2014it was shocking. It\u2019s like, \u201cGod creates calamity?\u201d For years I thought that the only person who created calamity was Satan, and I thought it only happened to bad people\u2014not good people\u2014and I certainly didn\u2019t think God created calamity.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe thing that\u2019s interesting to me about this verse\u2014well, a bunch of things are interesting\u2014one is that I looked up the word \u201ccalamity,\u201d and it\u2019s a Hebrew adjective that means \u201cbad\u201d\u2014it means \u201cadversity\u201d\u2014it means \u201caffliction\u201d. It\u2019s like, \u201cOkay, it means what I think it means.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen I looked up \u201ccreate\u201d and \u201ccause,\u201d and those two words mean \u201cto fashion or to make\u201d or \u201cto accomplish\u201d. So, \u201ccreate calamity\u201d means just what it says.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJust like our teenage daughters, who felt our discipline was harsh\u2014it was a calamity in their lives\u2014but we gave it to them for their good, because we knew that they needed it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOur teenagers felt like their suffering\u2014which was caused by us for a whole month\u2014was too extreme. They felt it was too unfair, but we had a higher good in mind. We were training them in righteousness.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s a great reminder to me of my relationship with God. I view things that He does\u2014oftentimes\u2014as bad, I don\u2019t like it\u2014it feels unfair; it feels extreme. But God says, \u201cI have a higher good in mind. I always have a higher good in mind.\u201d He is always working for us for our good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAt the heart of Isaiah 45:7 is the question of God\u2019s sovereignty. Is He in control\u2014or not? It\u2019s a question we have to wrestle with\u2014and answer. Do we believe He is in control, or not? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThen the second question is: Does He have the authority to decide what is good and what is not good? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe think we have the authority to decide what\u2019s good and not good\u2014but God is the one who is in charge.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s the third question: Can He do something that feels bad to us and still be loving? The answer is yes, because we did something that felt really bad to our girls. They didn\u2019t like it, they were restricted; it felt bad to them. It felt like a calamity to them, but we did it because we loved them. We had good in mind for them, we had a higher purpose in mind for them\u2014and so God does for us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m going to read you something that\u2019s written in a Hebrew commentary that really was\u2014I think is so well written\u2014about this verse\u2014just to put some of you at ease in your thinking, because this will say it much better than I can say it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cGod does not just allow darkness and calamity and then blame someone else.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHe creates the problems of human history. Evil is not outside of God\u2019s control. He uses it without being dirtied by it. Let\u2019s stop trying to rescue God from a problem He created for Himself by claiming full mastery over all things. Let\u2019s not relieve God of His responsibilities as King of the universe.\u201d \u2014Isn\u2019t that good? \u2014 \u201cThe very thing that we humans perceive as a problem, God perceives as His glory. God owns the dark moments of life.\u201d I love that\u2014\u201cGod owns the dark moments of life.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cHe bends everything around for His saving purpose. When Isaiah wrote this so long ago, he did not overlook a problem or a difficulty that we brainy, modern people happen to notice.\u201d \u2014We tend to think that way; don\u2019t we? We think we\u2019re a whole lot smarter than those people who lived back in the Old Testament times. \u201cIsaiah 45:7 is not an embarrassment\u2014it\u2019s what we love about God. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNot even evil can frustrate Him, and His surprising strategies are our assurance. He is proving to us that, \u2018I am the LORD, and there is no other.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI hope that encourages you and comforts you and helps you make peace with this God of ours who is very, very good but who also isn\u2019t always safe. None of us know what the rest of today will bring. None of us know what the next hour will bring\u2014we don\u2019t know what tomorrow will bring. We woke up with plans for our day this morning; didn\u2019t we? We knew what we were going to do next\u2014we knew where we were going to go\u2014we know what time we\u2019re going to leave here this morning.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSomeone else once woke up with plans for the day\u2014thinking that everything was going to go as planned\u2014and his name was Job. He got up one day expecting the usual, and by the time the day was over\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014everything in his life had changed. I used to not be a fan of Job, but I have really come to appreciate so much about this man and what he did and his response. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHis response, at the end of his day, when he had learned that everything in his life had been taken away and ruined\u2014all his children, all his livelihood, all his stock, his animals, everything was gone\u2014\u201cHe said, \u2018Naked I came from my mother\u2019s womb and naked I shall return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.\u2019 Through all this Job did not sin, nor did he blame God.\u201d He did not blame God.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe thing that I find remarkable about this is that he said, \u201cThe LORD has taken away.\u201d\u00a0 He didn\u2019t say, \u201cSatan has taken away.\u201d He knew that God was ultimately in control\u2014God was in charge\u2014God was sovereign. God was the One who took all of that away, and he worshipped and praised Him.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tEven though it hurt and he didn\u2019t like it\u2014he praised God\u2014because he knew God had good in mind. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want that to be my response. When I read those verses\u2014when I read what Job said, I want that to be my response when hard things come in my life. I don\u2019t mean to frighten any of you with this, because I used to be frightened by Job\u2019s story. I didn\u2019t want to read it. Kind of like the disciples, I didn\u2019t want to get close because I didn\u2019t want any of that to happen to me. I didn\u2019t like his story. I didn\u2019t like reading about calamity and hard things, because I didn\u2019t want to be touched by it. I wanted to be comfortable and I wanted to be pain-free in my life.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019m not intending to frighten you. I don\u2019t want anyone to walk out of here scared to death about the shoe dropping or whatever. But what I do want you to see is that when the day of calamity does come, He will be enough for you in that day. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe has been enough for me in a lot of calamities in my life, and I have learned that He is enough, and that\u2019s the most important thing for you to take away from here today, is that there will be hard times. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJesus said, \u201cIn this world you will have trouble.\u201d Jesus doesn\u2019t lie. There are hard things, and He wants us to know that He will be enough\u2014no matter what He brings our way. If He is enough for the day of calamity, He will be enough for my today\u2014for my next hour, for this afternoon, for tonight\u2014He will be enough for today.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo my question for you is: Will you choose to believe that He is always acting with good and loving purposes for you? Will you see Him as He really is\u2014not as you want Him to be? That was a big adjustment for me, because I wanted God to be a certain way. I wanted Him to be safe\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and when I began to see that He isn\u2019t always safe it was good for me to see God as He really is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, we\u2019ve been listening to part two of a message from Barbara Rainey about God being enough in our lives. It\u2019s one thing to trust God when the storm has passed and to say, \u201cYou know what? God saw me through that and He can be trusted.\u201d But when the wind is blowing and the rain is beating on the roof, there are times when we go, \u201cGod, are You here? Do You care?\u201d We wonder; don\u2019t we?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>We do. I just want to go somebody else who talked about the rain and the wind. It\u2019s Jesus\u2014in Matthew 7:24. If this is where you are right now in the present\u2014where Barbara was talking about\u2014I want you to listen to what this might say to you, because these are the words of the Creator of the universe\u2014Jesus Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cEveryone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds\u2014\u201d yes, that\u2019s the winds Bob was talking about \u201c\u2014the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think the instruction of Christ is here, whatever you\u2019re facing\u2014look outside the window, and if it\u2019s pouring outside, if the wind\u2019s pounding, if the floods are bursting against the house, it\u2019s going to reveal what your house has been built on.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHearing the words of Christ and doing them\u2014being a wise person, not a fool\u2014don\u2019t be a fool and give up on God in the present.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Okay, you have built your house on the rock\u2014but you still experience anxiety.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Oh, yes. In fact\u2014as you said that it\u2019s like, yes, you can build your house on the rock\u2014but that doesn\u2019t make you exempt from feeling it when the storms hit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, in those moments when there is fear\u2014when you are anxious\u2014how do you counsel your own heart in those moments?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I wish I could tell you I counsel my own heart perfectly. Sometimes it takes Barbara to come alongside me and remind me of the Truth. More than once in the past six months she\u2019s kind of come alongside me and just said, \u201cHey, God\u2019s not done with us\u2014not done with you.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think there are some spouses who need to realize the power of their words to remind their spouse of the truth.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Your words can counsel\u2014as Bob was talking about\u2014counsel your soul\u2014and on the other hand, you also can counsel your own soul. You can remind yourself of the truth. Has God said He\u2019s going to abandon you? No, He said He\u2019d be with you, even to the end of the age. His presence will go with you. He has a plan. Ephesians 2:10, \u201cWe are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.\u201d That\u2019s a pretty profound promise for the present.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, and I think, in the middle of the storm, are you going to look at the weather radar or are you going to look at the One who controls the weather; right?
