Do you remember?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes, Churchill.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Did you like it?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>You mean <em>The Darkest Hour<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Not the<em> Churchill<\/em>\u2014two Churchill movies came out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Right, right, right; thank you. That\u2019s Ted Baehr, by the way, who\u2019s a movie critic. He just criticized me for\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>No, no, no.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014not getting the right name. I deserved it! I can own it; I can own it right there. But, I thought it was a great movie, Ted. I\u2019ll have you comment on this\u2014I thought they told the story of Dunkirk better than the movie, <em>Dunkirk<\/em>. In fact, I was deeply disappointed, because I had shared that story for decades, here, on the broadcast and in speaking around the country. I felt like the movie, <em>Dunkirk<\/em>, <em>missed<\/em> it\u2014that the real heroes were the <em>dads<\/em>, who were sailing to rescue England\u2019s bleeding sons on the coast of Dunkirk, there in France.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, anyway\u2014How I got off on that route?\u2014you asked me the question! [Laughter] Welcome back to the broadcast here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>It\u2019s great to be with you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>To begin with, Ted\u2019s written a new book called <em>Reel to Real: 45 Movie Devotions for Families<\/em>. It really is a fun book. He has been married to Lily since 1975; has four children\u2014a bunch of grandchildren.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Eleven grandchildren.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That\u2019s good work!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And did you like <em>Darkest Hour<\/em>?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>I loved it\u2014it\u2019s one of our winners at the Movieguide awards. Gary Oldman and I spent, oh, maybe 45 minutes talking about his love for Churchill, etc. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then I remember the broadcast film critics, and when they choose all these terrible movies about bestiality, about pedophilia, and all this pederasty, and all this stuff, which I can\u2019t say on air\u2014so you didn\u2019t hear me say that\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I used obscure academic language so they wouldn\u2019t know what I was talking about. [Laughter] But then they honored <em>Dunkirk<\/em>. You know, Gary Oldman and I said to the head of the Lifetime Network, who was sitting next to me: \u201cDo you realize what you\u2019ve just done? Churchill would have been opposed to every other movie that you honored in here. Churchill was a man of such dignity.\u201d I\u2019m reading <em>The Last Lion<\/em> right now\u2014what a <em>great<\/em> book that is\u2014Manchester [the author]\u2014anyway, we want to go and talk about movies.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, <em>The Darkest Hour<\/em> compared to <em>Like Arrows<\/em>\u2014you put those two side by side\u2014[Laughter]\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Bob; Bob! Bob, you\u2019re talking about\u2014we produced <em>Like Arrows<\/em>\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014the movie that\u2019s going to be in theaters next week\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014with peanuts; they spent tens of millions.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, that\u2019s true. Okay; dollar for dollar, how does our movie stack up to theirs?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>You know, I\u2019m going to go back\u2014you have beautiful photography \/ beautiful acting. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I want to introduce you, Bob, to this girl\u2014[Laughter]\u2014you know, she\u2019s 17.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s right\u2014she\u2019s got a great personality. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>She has a great personality, and a great intellect, and she\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014she can talk to you about\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Ted did give the movie [<em>Like Arrows<\/em>] three stars out of four.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You did; and you\u2019ve seen our movie, <em>Like Arrows<\/em>. Again, it\u2019s going to be in theaters next\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Listen\u2014everybody out there has to go see <em>Like Arrows<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014Tuesday and Thursday.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>It\u2019s going to change your marriage; it\u2019s going to help your family life; it\u2019s going to help you with your children; and it\u2019s going to make sure you don\u2019t fall into the same traps that too many people fall into. That is my endorsement of <em>Like Arrows<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And budget-wise\u2014because, you know, we spent\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Yes; it\u2019s beautifully done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014about a half million dollars. I was talking to a guy, out in Hollywood, who helped with the movie, <em>Same Kind of Different as Me<\/em>. He said, \u201cHow do you even start to make a movie for a half million dollars?\u201d I said, \u201cWell, you don\u2019t make it in Hollywood; that\u2019s\u2026\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Well, I can compare you to <em>Same Kind of Different<\/em>; because they had the same type of problems as you\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Here we go! Alright; I\u2019m ready.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>\u2014and you did better.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Thank you! Thank you!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>You did better than <em>Same Kind of<\/em>\u2014and I <em>love<\/em> <em>Same Kind of Different<\/em>. You know, movies are structure\u2014that\u2019s it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And there are people\u2014I mean, some people\/some critics will look at a movie and say, \u201cThat was an <em>exceptional<\/em> movie,\u201d and somebody else will say, \u201cThat was a piece of junk!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Well, we do it a little differently. We analyze movies\u2014we\u2019re like building inspectors or like your doctor when you have a problem, because we want Christian movies to do better. I want <em>Same Kind of Different as Me<\/em> to do well. When a Christian movie fails, I fail. Why do I fail?\u2014because we\u2019ve convinced Hollywood that they can do better with Christian movies. Eight out of ten of the top-grossing movies, last year, were movies with strong\u2014not weak, but strong or <em>very<\/em> strong\u2014Christian content. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI tell it to these producers, writers, and directors\u2014and they\u2019re in touch with me for the rest of the year\u2014trying to reach that audience; because, every week, 23\/24 million people go to movies\u2014118 million people go to church. I said: \u201cIf you want to reach the church audience, which you\u2019ve just figured out is five to six times <em>bigger<\/em> than the movie audience, you have to make movies that are, not only exciting and wonderful, but movies that resonate with them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cIf you make a movie, taken from a Christian book, like <em>A Wrinkle in Time<\/em>, and you take the Christianity out of it, nobody\u2019s going to go. I don\u2019t care if you spend $100 million \/ I don\u2019t care if it\u2019s beautiful\u2014it doesn\u2019t do any good unless it\u2019s structured properly.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Are Christian movies getting better?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Christian movies have <em>always<\/em> been getting better. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s a diplomatic answer!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>No; yes; I\u2019m going to explain.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Our production team are all doubled over, laughing out here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>There have been 150\u2014I\u2019m just going to take the ones about Jesus. There have been 150 \/ more than 150 movies that we\u2019ve seen and rated about Jesus since 1897. In 1897, the Path\u00e9 brothers did a movie about Jesus; and the next year, there were three movies about Jesus. There was a <em>flood<\/em> of movies, throughout the years, about Jesus, including the <em>Jesus<\/em> film, which I helped John Hayman with, which was one of my favorites.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, there are two types of Christian movies. The Christian movies, made by Cecil B. DeMille, who was making them for DeMilleons\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>\u2014and Cecil B. DeMille did <em>King of Kings<\/em>. It\u2019s argued\u2014and it may still be true\u2014that more people around the world came to Christ through <em>King of Kings<\/em> because it was a silent movie, so they didn\u2019t need\u2014you know, I\u2019ve shown the <em>Jesus<\/em> film, up on the border of Laos and things like that\u2014but because it [<em>King of Kings<\/em>] didn\u2019t have dialogue, it was easier for people to grasp. <em>King of Kings<\/em> starts off in Rome\u2014in a debauched orgy\u2014because he [DeMille] understands that you have to show the effect of sin before you show the greatness of salvation\u2014you have to be saved from something. I grew up in the entertainment industry\u2014I was in that scene\u2014and God saved me out of the middle of it. So I believe that that\u2019s one of the greatest\u2014but those are made by big movies. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re talking about the little independent films\u2014Cathedral Films was doing that when I was head of the organization that did <em>The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe<\/em>\u2014we did that. The Lutherans did it for <em>very<\/em> many years, and they did great movies for a lot of years. The Methodists did wonderful movies for many years. You know, those movies are harder\u2014they have smaller budgets\u2014and they\u2019re trying hard. I think some of them hit the\u2014you know, just are terrific\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014hit the ball out of the park, and some of them are struggling.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>But we have seen, since kind of the beginning of the Kendrick era, a whole development of lots of faith-based films. Do you think the quality of that genre of films is getting better?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>I think Christian filmmakers are getting better. I think there is\u2014the inhibition for Christian film getting better is\u2014they say, \u201cI\u2019m making it for God.\u201d I had one guy, who\u2019s extremely wealthy\u2014made a movie that bombed at the box office. I said, \u201cWhy did you make it?\u201d He said, \u201cTo reach people for Christ.\u201d I said, \u201cWell, if you made a $1.7 million, at $10 a ticket, you got 170,000 people in a country of 340 million people\u2014you didn\u2019t achieve your goal.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s not about money\u2014money is just a <em>measure<\/em> of the box office. Hollywood\u2014why they come to our gala is because they want to succeed: \u201cHow do we reach this 118 million? This is a big deal for us.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, even when they don\u2019t like it, they will do it; because they\u2019re trying to win over this constituency. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>We<\/em> think that we\u2019re doing it just for God. One woman, who made a very mediocre movie, said, \u201cWell, I downloaded it from God.\u201d I said, \u201cGod didn\u2019t tell you that you needed to seek wisdom, knowledge, understanding, excellence, or something?\u201d\u2014[Laughter]\u2014disconnect. So, it\u2019s harder, in that sense. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut they are making better movies. I think the Irwin brothers\u2014each movie they\u2019ve done has gotten, qualitatively, better. I think Alex has a heart of gold\u2014he did my radio engineering for a few programs\u2014and he\u2019s making better movies every time, both of the Kendrick brothers. I think the great movies coming out of Sony Affirm\u2014but Sony Affirm is a Hollywood company. And then Pure Flix\u2014Pure Flix is doing very, very well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Your favorite Pure Flix\u2014<em>Case for Christ<\/em>\u2014your favorite Pure Flix?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>I think <em>Case for Christ<\/em> is almost one of the best films that has ever been made. It\u2019s extremely well\u2014now, when I say that\u2014you know, I\u2019m now arguing for structure and making the building stand.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We know what your argument is; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>But 60 percent of a movie is marketing. The way you market your movie can cover up a multitude of sins, but it can also reach millions of people.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, with that in mind, let me just remind folks that, next Tuesday and Thursday, <em>Like Arrows<\/em> is going to be in your local movie\u2014I\u2019m doing a little marketing right here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Right. And if you want to understand Like Arrows, you have to read <em>Reel to Real\u2014<\/em>[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014by Ted Baehr.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>\u2014which gives you all the questions to ask! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Alright.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Ted, I want to go back to your origins in the movie-making business and entertainment and how you got started. There\u2019s a reason why I want you to go there. I think the reason that Christian movies are getting better right now is the Irwin brothers \/ the Kendrick brothers\u2014others are creating a pool of talent. They\u2019re challenging young people to use their gifts to glorify God with messages on movies. I think there are parents, right now, who are raising some producers. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat was it that got your heart and bit you about the entertainment industry, where you got your start, initially?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Well, put this into context. You know, I\u2019ve said for a long time\u2014it\u2019s all over my book: \u201cWe need more Christians in Hollywood, but less Hollywood in the Christians.\u201d I grew up in Hollywood. My mother died when I was young. I went off the deep end\u2014a lot of self-destructive behavior\u2014we did a lot of drugs. It was all self-destructive\u2014I mean, we would pile up the drugs\u2014you know, like you were in a drug house\u2014and just see how many you could take\u2014and a lot of salacious activity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll of that happened, and my father didn\u2019t want me to go into acting. He was a star\u2014he had won the box office award in \u201936\u2014that means, in 1936, he was a <em>mega-star<\/em>. He was on Broadway for years, and he won a lot of awards on Broadway. He didn\u2019t want me to go in the industry, so he put me through Dartmouth; I graduated <em>summa cum laude<\/em>. I went to Cambridge; I went to University of Bordeaux, Telugu; I went to Northwestern University Graduate School of English; I went to Columbia University film school; and then I went to NYU Law. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I got out of NYU Law, I was working for a hard-core leftist organization, representing the Chicago Seven. I also was asked to put together the legal work to start a company called Cannon Films that made MGM. Four women\u2014saved by Billy \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGraham \/ that\u2019s why I was at Billy Graham\u2019s funeral, because I was friends of all those people\u2014came and targeted my father, because he was a good-looking guy; and one of them was single. But then I\u2019d tag along with them. He\u2019d get me as his chaperone; and finally, I just didn\u2019t like Christians. I went to a Bill Gothard seminar and walked out; and said, after the first 15 minutes, \u201cHe\u2019s crazy.\u201d Later, I found out that he was crazy\u2014but anyway\u2014so I left after a few minutes. She said, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you just read the Bible and tell me what\u2019s wrong with it?\u201d I wanted to get away; so I said, \u201cOkay; I\u2019ll do that.\u201d For six months, my father would say, \u201cHave you read the Bible?\u201d\u00a0 I would say, \u201cNo.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFinally, I read the Bible; my life turned around. I went to seminary in New York. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey owned the rights to <em>The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe<\/em>; so we did <em>The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe<\/em> on CBS Television. We got 37 million viewers. I said: \u201cI don\u2019t want to do movies. I want to be <em>behind<\/em> the moviemaker. I want to be the coach. I want to be the person who improves their game so they can <em>win<\/em> the game. I want to see more Christians\u201d\u2014I said\u2014\u201cIf I can coach ten filmmakers, twenty filmmakers, one hundred filmmakers, we can change the world.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, coach the parent, who\u2019s raising the creative type that\u2019s driving her mom crazy \/ his mom crazy\u2014and daddy too\u2014because they\u2019re wanting the whole family to look at all these movies he\u2019s making with his phone.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Okay; but you have to explain to the child\u2014and he\u2019ll understand that: \u201cDo they have the strength of character to actually improve?\u2014to actually work on their talent?\u201d It\u2019s like\u2014in this country, we spend 12 years of education learning the craft of writing. I\u2019ve done 36 books. You know, you are just learning \/ you\u2019re practicing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou have to learn the craft of writing. We should be learning the craft of the 21<sup>st<\/sup>-century medium of communication, which is not just movies, but movies, and YouTube, and all that\u2014that\u2019s the 21<sup>st<\/sup>-century medium of communicating to people. When we don\u2019t do it well, everybody else defames us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I thought, where you were going, in terms of the discipline and having the character to excel in making movies, was also to have the character that can survive the entertainment industry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes; because I\u2019m thinking, as a parent, \u201cIf my son or daughter came and said, \u2018Mom\/Dad, I want to move to L.A. I want to get in the film business. I want my faith to come out there,\u2019 I\u2019d go, \u2018You\u2019re walking into Sodom and Gomorrah, and you\u2019re going to be called on to compromise over and over again.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Well, you know, it\u2019s not as bad as walking into a cannibal tribe in Papua New Guinea, a hundred years ago.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Okay; alright; that\u2019s a good point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>You know, we take people\u2014we have interns there\u2014and they go on to be <em>very<\/em> successful in the news media and elsewhere. They learn to develop self-control and learn to develop. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd there are a lot of people in Hollywood, who come to our gala, who come to Christ. We\u2019ve had wonderful Jewish people come to Christ \/ wonderful Muslims come to Christ. We see these transformations all the time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHollywood is just a mission field. It\u2019s like any other mission field\u2014we need good people. If your children have a good, strong, biblical basis\u2014if they understand the Scriptures\u2014if they know what they\u2019re doing, send them out. We\u2019ll be glad to have them as interns \/ glad to help them understand how to succeed in Hollywood without losing their soul, and teach them what to do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I talked to a young actress recently who has had some roles in TV and in film. She said she was in a TV situation, where she had signed on to play a character. She got her script one week, and they had written a scene for her\u2014they\u2019d written a story \/ a whole episode around her that involved promiscuity\u2014a level of promiscuity that was just an offense for her faith. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere she is\u2014she\u2019s a believer, and she\u2019s looking at this script\u2014and she\u2019s under contract.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat does somebody do, as a Christian\u2014I know what she did\u2014what would you coach somebody to do in that situation?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>John Quade once\u2014he was the best villain in the Clint Eastwood movies\u2014<em>Every Which Way but Loose<\/em>, etc.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>He was the tough motorcyclist. He was actually a professor of physics in St. Louis, but he had a face for being a villain. [Laughter] But anyway, one day, he comes into his agent. He\u2019s [Quade\u2019s] Clint Eastwood\u2019s favorite villain, and he looks at the script and he walks out. The agent runs after him and he says, \u201cJohn, where are you going?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe says: \u201cI\u2019m not going to do it. It has foul language.\u201d He [Agent] said, \u201cJohn, but you\u2019re always the villain.\u201d He [Quade] said, \u201cI don\u2019t have to use foul language to be a bad guy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tRemember, in <em>Death<\/em> <em>Wish<\/em>, the most important guy would never use foul language. So he [Agent] said, \u201cWell, why do you do this?\u201d He [Quade] says, \u201cI know more about evil, as a Christian, than you\u2019ll ever know.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So an actor or an actress can stand up, even under contract, and say, \u201cI can\u2019t do this\u201d?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>You can stand up and say, \u201cI can\u2019t do it\u201d; of course.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It may cost you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Well, what I advise people to do is to say, \u201cThis is the way I could rewrite the script.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>\u201cThis is the way I can do the scene to be the femme fatale without being disgusting.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Which, by the way, is what Daniel did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>When the king said, \u201cHere\u2019s what you need to do,\u201d he said, \u201cCould we propose an alternative?\u201d And the king said, \u201cYes; we\u2019ll go with that.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Right; right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>What you\u2019re talking about, Bob, is courage. It really leads into my last question for Ted. This is my favorite softball question to toss a guest\u2014it\u2019s this: \u201cTed Baehr, in all of your life, what has been the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done?\u201d Courage is doing your duty in the face of fear. You\u2019ve done a lot of courageous things. I think our listening audience would love to know what the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Hollywood, you know\u2014we would do the movie \/ got awards\u2014we have big studio heads\u2014we go, toe to toe, with them on their topic\u2014I\u2019m never afraid of that, because I grew up in Hollywood. I know what these people are like\u2014I can talk to them \/ I love them. One of them\u2014one of them at Fox, I told him my little back story\u2014about all of my salacious [activities]\u2014he said, \u201cThat should be a movie!\u201d I said: \u201cI don\u2019t want it to be a movie, but it should change your life. Your life can change. You don\u2019t have to be bogged down in abuse and all the rest of it.\u201d So, that\u2019s not an area of courage for me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve spoken in strange places\u2014you know, in Indonesia, and Laos, and all that stuff, where\u2014 showing the <em>Jesus<\/em> film. The witch doctor in Laos was about to throw us all out of the village; it was a lone village that nobody had been to before. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think the biggest problem\u2014and the most courage\u2014is facing\u2014sometimes in the church. We had a big donor in Atlanta, who was also a big donor to CBN. He called me up one day and he said, \u201cYou know, you have to stop referencing perversion, and homosexuality, and etc.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Ted] \u201cI came out of the world! I\u2019m not afraid of the world!\u201d He said, \u201cI\u2019m not going to give you\u2026\u201d I said, \u201cDon\u2019t give me any more money,\u201d\u2014you know\u2014\u201cI don\u2019t need money. I have God. Why do I worry about your money?\u201d And then he got the head of the Law School at CBN removed; and then, one of the biggest churches in Atlanta\u2014he was controlling that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tListen\u2014this\u2014the force problem, as Pat Robertson once said, you know, \u201cThere\u2019s always a snake in the garden, and once you get the snake in the garden you have another snake in the garden.\u201d Sometimes, the biggest problem is right in your neighborhood\u2014it\u2019s the Judas in your midst.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I went to Princeton Theological Seminary, James McCord, who was a really committed Christian, used to keep a statue\u2014every kid, I\u2019m sure, asked the same thing. After ten minutes of talking, I asked, \u201cWhat does that bust\u2014who is that?\u201d He says, \u201cThat\u2019s Judas.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re looking at Judas, and you\u2019re saying, \u201cAre you going to be able to stand for the faith against\u201d\u2014not the big things \/ the big things are easy, talking to Hollywood executives\u2014\u201cit\u2019s the little manipulations that happen in our lives?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Great answer. I have no idea who you\u2019re talking to, right now, on this radio program; but I have a feeling you\u2019re challenging a young lady\/a young man\u2014maybe it\u2019s a grown man or a grown woman\u2014to, perhaps, face down the snake that is tempting them\u2014may God give you courage to do your duty.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Yes; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And the next time your family wants to have a movie night, or you\u2019re headed out to the theater, go to Ted\u2019s website and find out about the film you\u2019re thinking about going to see so you don\u2019t get surprised when you get there. That\u2019s Ted Baehr, by the way, who\u2019s a movie critic. He just criticized me for\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>No, no, no.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014not getting the right name. I deserved it! I can own it; I can own it right there. But, I thought it was a great movie, Ted. I\u2019ll have you comment on this\u2014I thought they told the story of Dunkirk better than the movie, <em>Dunkirk<\/em>. In fact, I was deeply disappointed, because I had shared that story for decades, here, on the broadcast and in speaking around the country. I felt like the movie, <em>Dunkirk<\/em>, <em>missed<\/em> it\u2014that the real heroes were the <em>dads<\/em>, who were sailing to rescue England\u2019s bleeding sons on the coast of Dunkirk, there in France.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, anyway\u2014How I got off on that route?\u2014you asked me the question! [Laughter] Welcome back to the broadcast here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>It\u2019s great to be with you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>To begin with, Ted\u2019s written a new book called <em>Reel to Real: 45 Movie Devotions for Families<\/em>. It really is a fun book. He has been married to Lily since 1975; has four children\u2014a bunch of grandchildren.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Eleven grandchildren.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>That\u2019s good work!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And did you like <em>Darkest Hour<\/em>?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>I loved it\u2014it\u2019s one of our winners at the Movieguide awards. Gary Oldman and I spent, oh, maybe 45 minutes talking about his love for Churchill, etc. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then I remember the broadcast film critics, and when they choose all these terrible movies about bestiality, about pedophilia, and all this pederasty, and all this stuff, which I can\u2019t say on air\u2014so you didn\u2019t hear me say that\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014I used obscure academic language so they wouldn\u2019t know what I was talking about. [Laughter] But then they honored <em>Dunkirk<\/em>. You know, Gary Oldman and I said to the head of the Lifetime Network, who was sitting next to me: \u201cDo you realize what you\u2019ve just done? Churchill would have been opposed to every other movie that you honored in here. Churchill was a man of such dignity.\u201d I\u2019m reading <em>The Last Lion<\/em> right now\u2014what a <em>great<\/em> book that is\u2014Manchester [the author]\u2014anyway, we want to go and talk about movies.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, <em>The Darkest Hour<\/em> compared to <em>Like Arrows<\/em>\u2014you put those two side by side\u2014[Laughter]\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Bob; Bob! Bob, you\u2019re talking about\u2014we produced <em>Like Arrows<\/em>\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014the movie that\u2019s going to be in theaters next week\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014with peanuts; they spent tens of millions.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Well, that\u2019s true. Okay; dollar for dollar, how does our movie stack up to theirs?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>You know, I\u2019m going to go back\u2014you have beautiful photography \/ beautiful acting. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I want to introduce you, Bob, to this girl\u2014[Laughter]\u2014you know, she\u2019s 17.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s right\u2014she\u2019s got a great personality. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>She has a great personality, and a great intellect, and she\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014she can talk to you about\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Ted did give the movie [<em>Like Arrows<\/em>] three stars out of four.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You did; and you\u2019ve seen our movie, <em>Like Arrows<\/em>. Again, it\u2019s going to be in theaters next\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Listen\u2014everybody out there has to go see <em>Like Arrows<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014Tuesday and Thursday.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>It\u2019s going to change your marriage; it\u2019s going to help your family life; it\u2019s going to help you with your children; and it\u2019s going to make sure you don\u2019t fall into the same traps that too many people fall into. That is my endorsement of <em>Like Arrows<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And budget-wise\u2014because, you know, we spent\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Yes; it\u2019s beautifully done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014about a half million dollars. I was talking to a guy, out in Hollywood, who helped with the movie, <em>Same Kind of Different as Me<\/em>. He said, \u201cHow do you even start to make a movie for a half million dollars?\u201d I said, \u201cWell, you don\u2019t make it in Hollywood; that\u2019s\u2026\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Well, I can compare you to <em>Same Kind of Different<\/em>; because they had the same type of problems as you\u2014[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Here we go! Alright; I\u2019m ready.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>\u2014and you did better.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Thank you! Thank you!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>You did better than <em>Same Kind of<\/em>\u2014and I <em>love<\/em> <em>Same Kind of Different<\/em>. You know, movies are structure\u2014that\u2019s it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And there are people\u2014I mean, some people\/some critics will look at a movie and say, \u201cThat was an <em>exceptional<\/em> movie,\u201d and somebody else will say, \u201cThat was a piece of junk!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Well, we do it a little differently. We analyze movies\u2014we\u2019re like building inspectors or like your doctor when you have a problem, because we want Christian movies to do better. I want <em>Same Kind of Different as Me<\/em> to do well. When a Christian movie fails, I fail. Why do I fail?\u2014because we\u2019ve convinced Hollywood that they can do better with Christian movies. Eight out of ten of the top-grossing movies, last year, were movies with strong\u2014not weak, but strong or <em>very<\/em> strong\u2014Christian content. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI tell it to these producers, writers, and directors\u2014and they\u2019re in touch with me for the rest of the year\u2014trying to reach that audience; because, every week, 23\/24 million people go to movies\u2014118 million people go to church. I said: \u201cIf you want to reach the church audience, which you\u2019ve just figured out is five to six times <em>bigger<\/em> than the movie audience, you have to make movies that are, not only exciting and wonderful, but movies that resonate with them. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u201cIf you make a movie, taken from a Christian book, like <em>A Wrinkle in Time<\/em>, and you take the Christianity out of it, nobody\u2019s going to go. I don\u2019t care if you spend $100 million \/ I don\u2019t care if it\u2019s beautiful\u2014it doesn\u2019t do any good unless it\u2019s structured properly.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Are Christian movies getting better?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Christian movies have <em>always<\/em> been getting better. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>That\u2019s a diplomatic answer!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>No; yes; I\u2019m going to explain.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Our production team are all doubled over, laughing out here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>There have been 150\u2014I\u2019m just going to take the ones about Jesus. There have been 150 \/ more than 150 movies that we\u2019ve seen and rated about Jesus since 1897. In 1897, the Path\u00e9 brothers did a movie about Jesus; and the next year, there were three movies about Jesus. There was a <em>flood<\/em> of movies, throughout the years, about Jesus, including the <em>Jesus<\/em> film, which I helped John Hayman with, which was one of my favorites.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNow, there are two types of Christian movies. The Christian movies, made by Cecil B. DeMille, who was making them for DeMilleons\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>\u2014and Cecil B. DeMille did <em>King of Kings<\/em>. It\u2019s argued\u2014and it may still be true\u2014that more people around the world came to Christ through <em>King of Kings<\/em> because it was a silent movie, so they didn\u2019t need\u2014you know, I\u2019ve shown the <em>Jesus<\/em> film, up on the border of Laos and things like that\u2014but because it [<em>King of Kings<\/em>] didn\u2019t have dialogue, it was easier for people to grasp. <em>King of Kings<\/em> starts off in Rome\u2014in a debauched orgy\u2014because he [DeMille] understands that you have to show the effect of sin before you show the greatness of salvation\u2014you have to be saved from something. I grew up in the entertainment industry\u2014I was in that scene\u2014and God saved me out of the middle of it. So I believe that that\u2019s one of the greatest\u2014but those are made by big movies. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re talking about the little independent films\u2014Cathedral Films was doing that when I was head of the organization that did <em>The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe<\/em>\u2014we did that. The Lutherans did it for <em>very<\/em> many years, and they did great movies for a lot of years. The Methodists did wonderful movies for many years. You know, those movies are harder\u2014they have smaller budgets\u2014and they\u2019re trying hard. I think some of them hit the\u2014you know, just are terrific\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014hit the ball out of the park, and some of them are struggling.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>But we have seen, since kind of the beginning of the Kendrick era, a whole development of lots of faith-based films. Do you think the quality of that genre of films is getting better?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>I think Christian filmmakers are getting better. I think there is\u2014the inhibition for Christian film getting better is\u2014they say, \u201cI\u2019m making it for God.\u201d I had one guy, who\u2019s extremely wealthy\u2014made a movie that bombed at the box office. I said, \u201cWhy did you make it?\u201d He said, \u201cTo reach people for Christ.\u201d I said, \u201cWell, if you made a $1.7 million, at $10 a ticket, you got 170,000 people in a country of 340 million people\u2014you didn\u2019t achieve your goal.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tIt\u2019s not about money\u2014money is just a <em>measure<\/em> of the box office. Hollywood\u2014why they come to our gala is because they want to succeed: \u201cHow do we reach this 118 million? This is a big deal for us.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, even when they don\u2019t like it, they will do it; because they\u2019re trying to win over this constituency. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>We<\/em> think that we\u2019re doing it just for God. One woman, who made a very mediocre movie, said, \u201cWell, I downloaded it from God.\u201d I said, \u201cGod didn\u2019t tell you that you needed to seek wisdom, knowledge, understanding, excellence, or something?\u201d\u2014[Laughter]\u2014disconnect. So, it\u2019s harder, in that sense. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tBut they are making better movies. I think the Irwin brothers\u2014each movie they\u2019ve done has gotten, qualitatively, better. I think Alex has a heart of gold\u2014he did my radio engineering for a few programs\u2014and he\u2019s making better movies every time, both of the Kendrick brothers. I think the great movies coming out of Sony Affirm\u2014but Sony Affirm is a Hollywood company. And then Pure Flix\u2014Pure Flix is doing very, very well.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Your favorite Pure Flix\u2014<em>Case for Christ<\/em>\u2014your favorite Pure Flix?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>I think <em>Case for Christ<\/em> is almost one of the best films that has ever been made. It\u2019s extremely well\u2014now, when I say that\u2014you know, I\u2019m now arguing for structure and making the building stand.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We know what your argument is; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>But 60 percent of a movie is marketing. The way you market your movie can cover up a multitude of sins, but it can also reach millions of people.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So, with that in mind, let me just remind folks that, next Tuesday and Thursday, <em>Like Arrows<\/em> is going to be in your local movie\u2014I\u2019m doing a little marketing right here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Right. And if you want to understand Like Arrows, you have to read <em>Reel to Real\u2014<\/em>[Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>\u2014by Ted Baehr.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>\u2014which gives you all the questions to ask! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Alright.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Ted, I want to go back to your origins in the movie-making business and entertainment and how you got started. There\u2019s a reason why I want you to go there. I think the reason that Christian movies are getting better right now is the Irwin brothers \/ the Kendrick brothers\u2014others are creating a pool of talent. They\u2019re challenging young people to use their gifts to glorify God with messages on movies. I think there are parents, right now, who are raising some producers. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat was it that got your heart and bit you about the entertainment industry, where you got your start, initially?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Well, put this into context. You know, I\u2019ve said for a long time\u2014it\u2019s all over my book: \u201cWe need more Christians in Hollywood, but less Hollywood in the Christians.\u201d I grew up in Hollywood. My mother died when I was young. I went off the deep end\u2014a lot of self-destructive behavior\u2014we did a lot of drugs. It was all self-destructive\u2014I mean, we would pile up the drugs\u2014you know, like you were in a drug house\u2014and just see how many you could take\u2014and a lot of salacious activity. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAll of that happened, and my father didn\u2019t want me to go into acting. He was a star\u2014he had won the box office award in \u201936\u2014that means, in 1936, he was a <em>mega-star<\/em>. He was on Broadway for years, and he won a lot of awards on Broadway. He didn\u2019t want me to go in the industry, so he put me through Dartmouth; I graduated <em>summa cum laude<\/em>. I went to Cambridge; I went to University of Bordeaux, Telugu; I went to Northwestern University Graduate School of English; I went to Columbia University film school; and then I went to NYU Law. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I got out of NYU Law, I was working for a hard-core leftist organization, representing the Chicago Seven. I also was asked to put together the legal work to start a company called Cannon Films that made MGM. Four women\u2014saved by Billy \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tGraham \/ that\u2019s why I was at Billy Graham\u2019s funeral, because I was friends of all those people\u2014came and targeted my father, because he was a good-looking guy; and one of them was single. But then I\u2019d tag along with them. He\u2019d get me as his chaperone; and finally, I just didn\u2019t like Christians. I went to a Bill Gothard seminar and walked out; and said, after the first 15 minutes, \u201cHe\u2019s crazy.\u201d Later, I found out that he was crazy\u2014but anyway\u2014so I left after a few minutes. She said, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you just read the Bible and tell me what\u2019s wrong with it?\u201d I wanted to get away; so I said, \u201cOkay; I\u2019ll do that.\u201d For six months, my father would say, \u201cHave you read the Bible?\u201d\u00a0 I would say, \u201cNo.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFinally, I read the Bible; my life turned around. I went to seminary in New York. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThey owned the rights to <em>The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe<\/em>; so we did <em>The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe<\/em> on CBS Television. We got 37 million viewers. I said: \u201cI don\u2019t want to do movies. I want to be <em>behind<\/em> the moviemaker. I want to be the coach. I want to be the person who improves their game so they can <em>win<\/em> the game. I want to see more Christians\u201d\u2014I said\u2014\u201cIf I can coach ten filmmakers, twenty filmmakers, one hundred filmmakers, we can change the world.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>So, coach the parent, who\u2019s raising the creative type that\u2019s driving her mom crazy \/ his mom crazy\u2014and daddy too\u2014because they\u2019re wanting the whole family to look at all these movies he\u2019s making with his phone.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Okay; but you have to explain to the child\u2014and he\u2019ll understand that: \u201cDo they have the strength of character to actually improve?\u2014to actually work on their talent?\u201d It\u2019s like\u2014in this country, we spend 12 years of education learning the craft of writing. I\u2019ve done 36 books. You know, you are just learning \/ you\u2019re practicing. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou have to learn the craft of writing. We should be learning the craft of the 21<sup>st<\/sup>-century medium of communication, which is not just movies, but movies, and YouTube, and all that\u2014that\u2019s the 21<sup>st<\/sup>-century medium of communicating to people. When we don\u2019t do it well, everybody else defames us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I thought, where you were going, in terms of the discipline and having the character to excel in making movies, was also to have the character that can survive the entertainment industry.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes; because I\u2019m thinking, as a parent, \u201cIf my son or daughter came and said, \u2018Mom\/Dad, I want to move to L.A. I want to get in the film business. I want my faith to come out there,\u2019 I\u2019d go, \u2018You\u2019re walking into Sodom and Gomorrah, and you\u2019re going to be called on to compromise over and over again.\u2019\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Well, you know, it\u2019s not as bad as walking into a cannibal tribe in Papua New Guinea, a hundred years ago.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Okay; alright; that\u2019s a good point.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>You know, we take people\u2014we have interns there\u2014and they go on to be <em>very<\/em> successful in the news media and elsewhere. They learn to develop self-control and learn to develop. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd there are a lot of people in Hollywood, who come to our gala, who come to Christ. We\u2019ve had wonderful Jewish people come to Christ \/ wonderful Muslims come to Christ. We see these transformations all the time.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHollywood is just a mission field. It\u2019s like any other mission field\u2014we need good people. If your children have a good, strong, biblical basis\u2014if they understand the Scriptures\u2014if they know what they\u2019re doing, send them out. We\u2019ll be glad to have them as interns \/ glad to help them understand how to succeed in Hollywood without losing their soul, and teach them what to do. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I talked to a young actress recently who has had some roles in TV and in film. She said she was in a TV situation, where she had signed on to play a character. She got her script one week, and they had written a scene for her\u2014they\u2019d written a story \/ a whole episode around her that involved promiscuity\u2014a level of promiscuity that was just an offense for her faith. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere she is\u2014she\u2019s a believer, and she\u2019s looking at this script\u2014and she\u2019s under contract.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat does somebody do, as a Christian\u2014I know what she did\u2014what would you coach somebody to do in that situation?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>John Quade once\u2014he was the best villain in the Clint Eastwood movies\u2014<em>Every Which Way but Loose<\/em>, etc.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>He was the tough motorcyclist. He was actually a professor of physics in St. Louis, but he had a face for being a villain. [Laughter] But anyway, one day, he comes into his agent. He\u2019s [Quade\u2019s] Clint Eastwood\u2019s favorite villain, and he looks at the script and he walks out. The agent runs after him and he says, \u201cJohn, where are you going?\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe says: \u201cI\u2019m not going to do it. It has foul language.\u201d He [Agent] said, \u201cJohn, but you\u2019re always the villain.\u201d He [Quade] said, \u201cI don\u2019t have to use foul language to be a bad guy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tRemember, in <em>Death<\/em> <em>Wish<\/em>, the most important guy would never use foul language. So he [Agent] said, \u201cWell, why do you do this?\u201d He [Quade] says, \u201cI know more about evil, as a Christian, than you\u2019ll ever know.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>So an actor or an actress can stand up, even under contract, and say, \u201cI can\u2019t do this\u201d?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>You can stand up and say, \u201cI can\u2019t do it\u201d; of course.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>It may cost you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Well, what I advise people to do is to say, \u201cThis is the way I could rewrite the script.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>\u201cThis is the way I can do the scene to be the femme fatale without being disgusting.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Which, by the way, is what Daniel did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>When the king said, \u201cHere\u2019s what you need to do,\u201d he said, \u201cCould we propose an alternative?\u201d And the king said, \u201cYes; we\u2019ll go with that.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Right; right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>What you\u2019re talking about, Bob, is courage. It really leads into my last question for Ted. This is my favorite softball question to toss a guest\u2014it\u2019s this: \u201cTed Baehr, in all of your life, what has been the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done?\u201d Courage is doing your duty in the face of fear. You\u2019ve done a lot of courageous things. I think our listening audience would love to know what the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done is.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Hollywood, you know\u2014we would do the movie \/ got awards\u2014we have big studio heads\u2014we go, toe to toe, with them on their topic\u2014I\u2019m never afraid of that, because I grew up in Hollywood. I know what these people are like\u2014I can talk to them \/ I love them. One of them\u2014one of them at Fox, I told him my little back story\u2014about all of my salacious [activities]\u2014he said, \u201cThat should be a movie!\u201d I said: \u201cI don\u2019t want it to be a movie, but it should change your life. Your life can change. You don\u2019t have to be bogged down in abuse and all the rest of it.\u201d So, that\u2019s not an area of courage for me. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve spoken in strange places\u2014you know, in Indonesia, and Laos, and all that stuff, where\u2014 showing the <em>Jesus<\/em> film. The witch doctor in Laos was about to throw us all out of the village; it was a lone village that nobody had been to before. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think the biggest problem\u2014and the most courage\u2014is facing\u2014sometimes in the church. We had a big donor in Atlanta, who was also a big donor to CBN. He called me up one day and he said, \u201cYou know, you have to stop referencing perversion, and homosexuality, and etc.\u201d\u00a0 \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Ted] \u201cI came out of the world! I\u2019m not afraid of the world!\u201d He said, \u201cI\u2019m not going to give you\u2026\u201d I said, \u201cDon\u2019t give me any more money,\u201d\u2014you know\u2014\u201cI don\u2019t need money. I have God. Why do I worry about your money?\u201d And then he got the head of the Law School at CBN removed; and then, one of the biggest churches in Atlanta\u2014he was controlling that. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tListen\u2014this\u2014the force problem, as Pat Robertson once said, you know, \u201cThere\u2019s always a snake in the garden, and once you get the snake in the garden you have another snake in the garden.\u201d Sometimes, the biggest problem is right in your neighborhood\u2014it\u2019s the Judas in your midst.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhen I went to Princeton Theological Seminary, James McCord, who was a really committed Christian, used to keep a statue\u2014every kid, I\u2019m sure, asked the same thing. After ten minutes of talking, I asked, \u201cWhat does that bust\u2014who is that?\u201d He says, \u201cThat\u2019s Judas.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou\u2019re looking at Judas, and you\u2019re saying, \u201cAre you going to be able to stand for the faith against\u201d\u2014not the big things \/ the big things are easy, talking to Hollywood executives\u2014\u201cit\u2019s the little manipulations that happen in our lives?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Great answer. I have no idea who you\u2019re talking to, right now, on this radio program; but I have a feeling you\u2019re challenging a young lady\/a young man\u2014maybe it\u2019s a grown man or a grown woman\u2014to, perhaps, face down the snake that is tempting them\u2014may God give you courage to do your duty.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ted: <\/strong>Yes; yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And the next time your family wants to have a movie night, or you\u2019re headed out to the theater, go to Ted\u2019s website and find out about the film you\u2019re thinking about going to see so you don\u2019t get surprised when you get there.
