That\u2019s what\u2019s happening for a lot of people around the movie that premiers in theaters this weekend called <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em>. Here\u2019s the producer of that movie, Kevin Downes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>We have so many people that come up to us\u2014and their story is so unique\u2014but what\u2019s special about it is\u2014when they watch the film, they say: \u201cYou know what? That\u2019s my story.\u201d Everybody\u2019s gravitating towards what <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em> means to them. Our prayer is that there\u2019s healing that is going on\u2014that there are fathers that are out there that are waiting for their son \/ maybe waiting for a phone call from their sons so that they can actually make amends and seek forgiveness for the past.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Friday, March 16<sup>th<\/sup>. We\u2019ll hear more about it today. Stay with us.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd welcome to <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em>. Thanks for joining us on the Friday edition. We are in a special situation today\u2014we have a live studio audience. They have just been with us, and we have screened the movie that is coming out in theaters this weekend, <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em>. What did you guys think? [Loud cheering] Alright; I think they thought that was pretty good. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I think they liked it a little bit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We have with us a couple of the guys responsible for the film. Do you want to introduce them?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>A couple of the guys\u2014we have the co-director \/ [co-directing] along with his brother\u2014Andy Erwin \/ your brother is Jon. Glad you guys were successful again. I can\u2019t believe this.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>I love whenever you guys invite us here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Kevin Downes, who is the producer of this. Thank you for the job you did on this. I have to tell you guys\u2014I think this is going to be every bit as big a hit as <em>War Room<\/em> was\u2014I really do. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Thank you!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I\u2019m just really excited, and the reason is\u2014you and I, Andy, were talking about this a bit earlier\u2014you\u2019re tapping into something that is intensely biblical and close to our heavenly Father\u2019s heart. The Old Testament ends with two verses that proclaim the Messiah coming; and when He comes, \u201cHe will restore the hearts of the fathers to their sons and their sons to the fathers, lest He come and smite the land with a curse.\u201d You\u2019re seeing this all around the country as you\u2019ve premiered this and seen people\u2019s responses to this; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Absolutely, Dennis. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think\u2014somebody shared that verse with me as we were wrapping the film \/ shooting it. The neat thing to see is\u2014when something like this happens\u2014and I\u2019m sure that Steve and Alex can say the same thing about <em>War Room<\/em>\u2014is when there\u2019s a greater message to it, that you see God orchestrating it. It really kind of comes together at the last minute\u2014you see that it was on God\u2019s heart long before it was on yours, as a storyteller. He brought the pieces together to tell that story.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs we stepped in to tell this story about Bart, we were so attracted to it; because it was the story of the greatest Christian song of all time. But as we got into it, the father\/son story was so powerful\u2014and the story of restoration and forgiveness. Dennis Quaid plays the father in this film\u2014to see how men respond to this movie has been earth-shattering. It\u2019s been just a real treat.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Many of our listeners are not fans of music, like Bob is. He could recite exactly how well this song has done. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKevin, share with our listeners exactly how popular <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em> has been and what it\u2019s done over the years.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Well, I mean, you know, I believe it\u2019s one of the most-played bestselling contemporary Christian songs of all time. That doesn\u2019t surprise me; when you look at a song that has been relevant for\u2014what?\u201417 years? We have so many people that come up to us\u2014and their story is so unique\u2014but what\u2019s special about it is\u2014when they watch the film, they say: \u201cYou know what? That\u2019s my story.\u201d Everybody\u2019s gravitating towards what <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em> means to them. Our prayer is that there\u2019s healing that is going on\u2014that there are fathers that are out there that are waiting for their son \/ maybe waiting for a phone call from their sons so that they can actually make amends and seek forgiveness for the past. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne story that happened in the Midwest\u2014we shared the film with some leadership at a church\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and afterwards, this young man, who had been going to church for about three months, came up. He was about 24 years old, hadn\u2019t seen his dad in 10 years. He said: \u201cWhen the credits started rolling, I pulled my phone out. We\u2019re connected on Facebook<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, but I\u2019d never talked to him. I said, \u2018Hey, can we meet tomorrow for lunch?\u2019\u201d And then the follow-up to that is that they met; and now, at that lunch, his dad sought forgiveness from his son.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Wow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>And they now have a relationship together. [Applause] Yes. And in about a month or so since that happened, the mom and the son have been to church every Sunday; and there\u2019s been healing and restoration in that family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You\u2019re really talking about bringing fathers and sons back together. It\u2019s tied to the Fifth Commandment in the Old Testament\u2014it\u2019s the first commandment with a promise: \u201cHonor your mother and your father.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I think there are a lot of fathers who feel dishonored by their sons\u2014maybe they earned some of it\u2014but the son has not truly gone back home and honored them. I think this movie is going to spark a revival in young men \/ maybe some older men to go back home to their fathers and do the very thing you talked about\u2014ask for forgiveness\u2014or also go back home and honor their fathers for what they did right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>A lot of people, who are going to go watch this movie this weekend, are going to see Dennis Quaid\u2014who they have seen in lots of movies \/ who is a recognizable, quality actor\u2014and they\u2019re going to go: \u201cWhat\u2019s going on there? What\u2019s going on spiritually with him? How did he get involved with this story?\u201d Just talk a little bit about his interest in this movie and what it was like having him in that role.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Yes; let me share the interest real quick, and then Andy will share something really cool. It was only by God that Dennis Quaid is in this movie, and I\u2019m going to explain it here in a second. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe way that we set up the filming of the movie was that the role of Bart\u2019s dad was all in the last two weeks of the film, but we had a break for Christmas and New Year\u2019s\u2014and that was to get a star\u2014somebody that, hopefully, God would lead us to that would play that role. The very last possible day\u2014before we had to just move on from somebody else\u2014something happened, where I had sort of given up. I\u2019m like: \u201cYou know what? This isn\u2019t going to happen. I don\u2019t think this is going to work out.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJon was asking me: \u201cWhat\u2019s going on with Dennis?\u201d and \u201cHas there been any communication?\u201d I said, \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s going to work out.\u201d All of a sudden, I felt God nudging me: \u201cWalk to your car.\u201d We were shooting in a small town in Oklahoma, and my car is about four blocks away. I walk to my car \/ got in my car\u2014had no idea why\u2014whipped out my computer, wrote an email to his agent that kind of put a deadline of four hours later. Smash cut\u2014four hours later, as the sun is setting\u2014I get a phone call from one of our assistants, who was communicating with Dennis; and it is Dennis Quaid on the other line.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFirst thing he says to me\u2014I had never talked to him before\u2014first thing he says to me is, \u201cAm I too late?\u201d I said: \u201cDennis, you\u2019re never too late. It\u2019s really great to meet you.\u201d In \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t30 seconds, the deal was done; and he was on his way out to Oklahoma City. He jumped in with both\u2014I mean, just all in. It was cool to watch him perform in the film. And then a really neat story, once he saw the film for the first time\u2014I\u2019ll let Andy share.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Yes; along with that\u2014while that was going on with Dennis\u2014we really wanted somebody that was, you know, a really quality actor that would kind of embody the role but also really embrace this character\u2019s redemption. There are a lot of actors that won\u2019t do that. I had heard good things about Dennis because of him playing in <em>Soul Surfer<\/em> and other movies like that\u2014that he was very open to that\u2014but I was really starting to hit that panic moment.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the people I called in the midst of that was Stephen Kendrick. Stephen and Alex have been mentors to Jon and myself for years. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just said: \u201cStephen, I feel like, \u2018What am I doing?\u2019 I\u2019m doing this movie\u2014we\u2019re already filming\u2014we don\u2019t have a star.\u201d He said: \u201cAndy, if God\u2019s in it, embrace closed doors. He won\u2019t let you miss the right open one.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cOkay; alright, Lord, this is Your problem.\u201d Within hours of us hitting that deadline of the panic moment, God brought us Dennis Quaid. When he came in, he portrayed the role beautifully. You know, Dennis was raised in the church\u2014he was raised in Houston, Texas. He and his brother went to a Baptist church there in Houston. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went to go show it to him at his house for the first time\u2014and showed him an early cut of the movie\u2014and it was him and his nine-year-old kids \/ he has two nine-year-old twins. After it was over, I turned around and said, \u201cDennis, what do you think?\u201d I turn around, and Dennis was\u2014I\u2019m talking ugly crying \/ I\u2019m talking sobbing\u2014[Laughter]\u2014you know, snotty nose \/ just a mess. [Laughter] He was like, \u201cThat was powerful!\u201d I couldn\u2019t say a whole lot; he hugged me three times\u2014we said our goodbyes and I left. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe called Bart that night, and they talked for five hours. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe said, \u201cAfter Andy left, my kids started asking me about God and about heaven. We had conversations like we\u2019d never had before.\u201d He said, \u201cThis movie is about how God does His miracles, the hard way sometimes.\u201d He says, \u201cI\u2019m all in.\u201d It was really neat to see how that\u2014[Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Andy, we haven\u2019t talked about the theme of abuse that\u2019s in this movie. I\u2019ve seen it twice now. I was sitting on the front row, weeping\u2014just for the boys and the girls\u2014little girls and little boys, who have been abused by their daddies. You\u2019ve not just stopped with this theme in the movie\u2014you\u2019ve gone on to do something else, I noticed, in the credits at the end. Tell our listeners a little bit about the ministry that\u2019s being done to those who\u2019ve suffered from abuse.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>You know, we feel like our movies\u2014we feel like there\u2019s a double bottom line. Yes; we want to make an entertaining movie that\u2019s worth your price of admission\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but the opportunity of the hearts that are moved\u2014we feel like we have an obligation to point them in the right direction.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Our vision is\u2014we want to bring the church to the theater. If there\u2019s a kid or an adult, who finds themselves in that theater not affiliated with the church\u2014and all of a sudden this movie is the message that they needed to hear\u2014we want to provide the answer of, \u201cNow what do I do?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Kevin, I just want you to know\u2014I think today presents an incredible opportunity for the church to reclaim the high moral and spiritual ground in our culture on a number of issues; but pragmatically to step into this one, where children are being hurt. I think\u2014you\u2019re giving the church, I think, a genuine place to make a difference and to speak to the culture\u2014to say: \u201cWe care. Our gospel is about getting people into heaven; but it\u2019s about the love of Christ being displayed for broken people, who\u2019ve suffered incredible harm and evil.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want to thank you guys for not just creating a great, entertaining movie, but at the end, giving the church a chance to step up and make a big difference. Thanks. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>At the end of the day, we\u2019re one body\u2014and we are the hands and the feet. We wanted to make something that was so easy for us to just pick up and go: \u201cYou know what? I can do that,\u201d and actually be one body, together, and be the hands and feet of Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Andy, there had to be a conversation, at some point, about, \u201cDo we cast Bart as Bart in this movie?\u201d\u2014[Laughter]\u2014right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Yes; absolutely. You know, we talked about that. We had to make a conscious decision, \u201cDo we use the real people?\u201d because we also\u2014in the story, we highlight Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and several other well-known people, especially within our core audience\u2014that they know them \/ that they\u2019re household names. We said: \u201cDo we use the real people and just kind of turn back the hands of time a little bit?\u201d or \u201cDo we go out and find these fresh faces?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOnce we committed \/ once we found\u2014we did an open casting call across the whole country, because we wanted somebody to do their own singing. Bart has an incredible range. We found this kid, John Michael Finley\u2014he submitted out of New York City\u2014never been in a movie, but he was in a Broadway play called <em>Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em>\u2014he played the understudy for Jean Valjean. I took Bart with me to go see the play. When it got to the song, <em>Bring Him Home<\/em>, I looked at Bart and I was like, \u201cIs this the guy?\u201d He was like, \u201cThis is the guy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe pulled him in\u2014we started asking him about his story. His dad is an associate pastor at a church in Missouri. He grew up going to camps, hearing MercyMe sing; so it was a world that he knew really well. He stepped in, and he steals the show.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOnce we did that, we went out and found actors that really fit the people they were playing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>But let me just\u2014Andy makes it sound so easy\u2014like this just happened. Have you ever been put in a situation where fear drives your decision-making, but you really know it shouldn\u2019t?\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and you\u2019re like, \u201cGod, please let me leap \/ step out in an act of faith, because I know You\u2019re going to provide the right person.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe were presented with that many times, because\u2014think about it\u2014you\u2019re going to find a young actor that kind of resembles Bart\u2014that can sing, that can act, and gets the heart of what we\u2019re actually trying to do. Because it\u2019s one thing to act it; it\u2019s another thing to believe it and to portray it out on stage\u2014and that\u2019s not an easy thing to find. But God just said, [Makes a popping sound] \u201cHere you go, right here,\u201d\u2014we are blessed and gifted to have that young man in our cast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I saw some clips from the movie, early on. I said, \u201cAmy Grant did a great job.\u201d [Laughter] Seriously! And then they go, \u201cThat\u2019s an actress.\u201d I said, \u201cNo; that\u2019s Amy\u2026\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>For anybody in the room that has not figured it out, that was not actually Amy Grant. When she came in\u2014you know, we all know Amy really well. I did a music video for Amy, back in the day; so Jon and I consider her a dear friend. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnybody that knows Amy knows that she\u2019s one of the most generous people on the planet. So any actress that came in\u2014I said, \u201cYou know, we know Amy well, and, you know\u2026\u201d So anybody who came in: \u201cThat\u2019s not Amy,\u201d \u201cThat\u2019s not Amy.\u201d This girl walked in and had perfected Amy so much that I got <em>spooked<\/em>. We looked at each other like\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>\u201cThat\u2019s Amy Grant.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>\u201cWhat was that?\u201d So\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I just want to confess\u2014you had me, because I thought it was Amy Grant. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t know how much you want to give away; but did that really happen?\u2014what happened at the end of the movie?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Yes; it did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Seriously!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>It did. You know, that was what sold us on the movie; because we had already been talking to Bart about his story\u2014about his story with his dad. We were doing a radio show, one day down in Tampa, a morning show promoting <em>Woodlawn<\/em>. Off the air, the host asked us, \u201cWhat are you looking at next?\u201d We said, \u201cBart Millard\u2019s story\u2014MercyMe and <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em>.\u201d He said: \u201cOh my goodness. I was at the Ryman that night when Amy pulled up Bart on the stage.\u201d And I said\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>We were like, \u201cExcuse me?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You hadn\u2019t heard the story.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>No! We called Bart\u2014we were like, \u201cDid this happen?\u201d He was like: \u201cOh yes! I forgot to tell you guys that.\u201d [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>And this is the movie! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>I\u2019m like\u2014I guess that\u2019s the first day that my real life exceeded my imagination\u2014that was a good day. [Laughter] I was like: \u201cBart! How is this not in the script?!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>All of a sudden, at that moment, the movie took shape. I remember a call with these guys, and you know\u2014like when seven-year-olds are so giddy on Christmas Day\u2014that was the conversation that happened, because we <em>knew<\/em> that the movie had just been found. They did such a great job\u2014you guys really did such a great job.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Kevin, we\u2019ve talked with our audience about this before, but we need to say it again: \u201cThis weekend is critical for, not just the success of this film, but for faith-based films having a place at the local cinemas.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Yes; yes\u2014amen is right. Look, this weekend is when we can make a difference\u2014not just in our communities, changing lives \/ the stories that you\u2019re going to hear\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014you\u2019re all going to hear them if you bring people or go with people to the film \/ you\u2019re going to see lives being changed in front of you\u2014but it\u2019s also the weekend that the media watches, and the media takes notice. We want to be on the headlines and surprise everybody, Monday morning, that <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em>: \u201cWhat is this movie?\u201d so that journalists have to actually go and investigate what we\u2019re all about, and what this movie is all about, and it brings more <em>awareness<\/em> to what our film is all about.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And it could be that next weekend it\u2019s in <em>more<\/em> theaters than this weekend; because if it succeeds on opening weekend, then theater owners say: \u201cOh, we didn\u2019t expect that. We\u2019ll give you more theaters.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Yes; yes. They will, all of a sudden, start requesting it: \u201cWe want this, this, this, and this,\u201d and we\u2019re prepared for that. God said, \u201cPrepare for rain,\u201d\u2014right?\u2014and so we\u2019re prepared for the harvest. On Monday morning, if the word is good, you\u2019re going to see big things happen following that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I was imagining\u2014[Applause] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYes; and as I was watching the movie, just experiencing it, I was thinking about Monday and beyond and the movie doing well; and I thought, \u201cI can imagine an Oscar nomination?\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Dennis will take you anywhere you want to go to! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Why not have the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ show up at an event? [Applause] I\u2019m serious! I am really sick and tired of the messages that have been portrayed as being the core of our nation, and <em>this<\/em> has been the core of our freedom as a country. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want you to turn this personally, at this point, to the crowd that\u2019s here live\u2014here on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> cruise\u2014who just watched the movie. There\u2019s a man \/ a woman, who\u2019s watched this movie, who\u2019s suffered from abuse. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat would you gentlemen say to that young lady \/ that young man? What would be your counsel to them, going forward, leaving here after being touched profoundly and emotionally by this movie?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>First of all, I would say: \u201cToday is a new day.\u201d Just like Bart said, at the end of the movie, live\u2014actually, on C-Span, at the prayer breakfast: \u201cIf the gospel can change that dude, the gospel can change anyone.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s the exciting thing about it is\u2014when Christ died on the cross\u2014that means that yesterday is <em>gone<\/em>; it\u2019s absolutely <em>gone<\/em>. That <em>alone<\/em> is enough to be <em>so excited<\/em>\u2014when two people are coming from a hurt past, when all of a sudden, they have a bond that they connect; and it focuses on the cross. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>To add to that\u2014you know, as we\u2019ve done this movie, Bart\u2019s one of my best friends\u2014and kind of getting a little bit of a glimpse into his pain, as he\u2019s been vulnerable\u2014you have a deep degree of empathy from us towards you if you\u2019ve gone through that. I think, if you really want to understand God\u2019s compassion and heart for your pain, listen to songs that Bart\u2019s written in the past three or four years, like <em>They\u2019re a Younger Me<\/em>. That was specifically geared towards his eight-year-old self\u2014of what he would go back and tell him about God\u2019s unconditional love for him as he was going through that pain. God loves you, and He is faithful to meet you right where you\u2019re at.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe second thing\u2014I would turn it around\u2014is for those of you that may have been on the other side\u2014the Arthur-side of that equation\u2014that thought to yourself: \u201cI couldn\u2019t\u2014it\u2019s too late for me. I\u2019ve screwed up too much, and there\u2019s no hope for that restoration.\u201d This is a man that, at the twilight of his life, as he was dying of cancer, God did a work in his heart, and completely redeemed and restored a broken relationship with his son. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd as a result, I think millions and millions of people are going to hear about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Arthur\u2019s already in heaven, getting rewards for that. I think that God\u2019s grace is big enough for your worst mistake, and no relationship is too far gone to redeem. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Great movie. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I would just say to this audience\u2014if you\u2019re in that group of people, who\u2019ve experienced this, two things: number one, you\u2019re called, as a follower of Christ, to forgive as you\u2019ve been forgiven. There\u2019s a profound moment in the movie where Bart was reminded of something he\u2019d written to himself, as a boy, at a youth camp, calling to forgive. I think we need to go back to the gospel in our own lives and practice it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then the second thing that I think is equally important is\u2014if you\u2019ve been abused, use that pain. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>22:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere was a line in there by\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>\u2014Trace.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014by Trace. It was, \u201cUse the pain that has impacted you to sing the song from your soul.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And if we\u2019ve been forgiven, we can tell the story of what God has done in our lives and in our parents\u2019 lives to pass it on to other people. We live in a broken culture; and there\u2019s not going to be less abuse, there\u2019s going to be more. We need to be messengers, I believe, as both men and women, of that message of healing to the nation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And we hope all of you here will go again, this weekend, to see <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em>\u2014bring your friends. That\u2019s what\u2019s happening for a lot of people around the movie that premiers in theaters this weekend called <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em>. Here\u2019s the producer of that movie, Kevin Downes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>We have so many people that come up to us\u2014and their story is so unique\u2014but what\u2019s special about it is\u2014when they watch the film, they say: \u201cYou know what? That\u2019s my story.\u201d Everybody\u2019s gravitating towards what <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em> means to them. Our prayer is that there\u2019s healing that is going on\u2014that there are fathers that are out there that are waiting for their son \/ maybe waiting for a phone call from their sons so that they can actually make amends and seek forgiveness for the past.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>This is <em>FamilyLife Today<\/em> for Friday, March 16<sup>th<\/sup>. We are in a special situation today\u2014we have a live studio audience. They have just been with us, and we have screened the movie that is coming out in theaters this weekend, <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em>. What did you guys think? [Loud cheering] Alright; I think they thought that was pretty good. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I think they liked it a little bit.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>We have with us a couple of the guys responsible for the film. Do you want to introduce them?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>A couple of the guys\u2014we have the co-director \/ [co-directing] along with his brother\u2014Andy Erwin \/ your brother is Jon. Glad you guys were successful again. I can\u2019t believe this.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>2:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>I love whenever you guys invite us here.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And Kevin Downes, who is the producer of this. Thank you for the job you did on this. I have to tell you guys\u2014I think this is going to be every bit as big a hit as <em>War Room<\/em> was\u2014I really do. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Thank you!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I\u2019m just really excited, and the reason is\u2014you and I, Andy, were talking about this a bit earlier\u2014you\u2019re tapping into something that is intensely biblical and close to our heavenly Father\u2019s heart. The Old Testament ends with two verses that proclaim the Messiah coming; and when He comes, \u201cHe will restore the hearts of the fathers to their sons and their sons to the fathers, lest He come and smite the land with a curse.\u201d You\u2019re seeing this all around the country as you\u2019ve premiered this and seen people\u2019s responses to this; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Absolutely, Dennis. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>3:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI think\u2014somebody shared that verse with me as we were wrapping the film \/ shooting it. The neat thing to see is\u2014when something like this happens\u2014and I\u2019m sure that Steve and Alex can say the same thing about <em>War Room<\/em>\u2014is when there\u2019s a greater message to it, that you see God orchestrating it. It really kind of comes together at the last minute\u2014you see that it was on God\u2019s heart long before it was on yours, as a storyteller. He brought the pieces together to tell that story.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAs we stepped in to tell this story about Bart, we were so attracted to it; because it was the story of the greatest Christian song of all time. But as we got into it, the father\/son story was so powerful\u2014and the story of restoration and forgiveness. Dennis Quaid plays the father in this film\u2014to see how men respond to this movie has been earth-shattering. It\u2019s been just a real treat.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Many of our listeners are not fans of music, like Bob is. He could recite exactly how well this song has done. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>4:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tKevin, share with our listeners exactly how popular <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em> has been and what it\u2019s done over the years.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Well, I mean, you know, I believe it\u2019s one of the most-played bestselling contemporary Christian songs of all time. That doesn\u2019t surprise me; when you look at a song that has been relevant for\u2014what?\u201417 years? We have so many people that come up to us\u2014and their story is so unique\u2014but what\u2019s special about it is\u2014when they watch the film, they say: \u201cYou know what? That\u2019s my story.\u201d Everybody\u2019s gravitating towards what <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em> means to them. Our prayer is that there\u2019s healing that is going on\u2014that there are fathers that are out there that are waiting for their son \/ maybe waiting for a phone call from their sons so that they can actually make amends and seek forgiveness for the past. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne story that happened in the Midwest\u2014we shared the film with some leadership at a church\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>5:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and afterwards, this young man, who had been going to church for about three months, came up. He was about 24 years old, hadn\u2019t seen his dad in 10 years. He said: \u201cWhen the credits started rolling, I pulled my phone out. We\u2019re connected on Facebook<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, but I\u2019d never talked to him. I said, \u2018Hey, can we meet tomorrow for lunch?\u2019\u201d And then the follow-up to that is that they met; and now, at that lunch, his dad sought forgiveness from his son.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Wow.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>And they now have a relationship together. [Applause] Yes. And in about a month or so since that happened, the mom and the son have been to church every Sunday; and there\u2019s been healing and restoration in that family.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>You\u2019re really talking about bringing fathers and sons back together. It\u2019s tied to the Fifth Commandment in the Old Testament\u2014it\u2019s the first commandment with a promise: \u201cHonor your mother and your father.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>6:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, I think there are a lot of fathers who feel dishonored by their sons\u2014maybe they earned some of it\u2014but the son has not truly gone back home and honored them. I think this movie is going to spark a revival in young men \/ maybe some older men to go back home to their fathers and do the very thing you talked about\u2014ask for forgiveness\u2014or also go back home and honor their fathers for what they did right.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>A lot of people, who are going to go watch this movie this weekend, are going to see Dennis Quaid\u2014who they have seen in lots of movies \/ who is a recognizable, quality actor\u2014and they\u2019re going to go: \u201cWhat\u2019s going on there? What\u2019s going on spiritually with him? How did he get involved with this story?\u201d Just talk a little bit about his interest in this movie and what it was like having him in that role.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Yes; let me share the interest real quick, and then Andy will share something really cool. It was only by God that Dennis Quaid is in this movie, and I\u2019m going to explain it here in a second. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>7:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe way that we set up the filming of the movie was that the role of Bart\u2019s dad was all in the last two weeks of the film, but we had a break for Christmas and New Year\u2019s\u2014and that was to get a star\u2014somebody that, hopefully, God would lead us to that would play that role. The very last possible day\u2014before we had to just move on from somebody else\u2014something happened, where I had sort of given up. I\u2019m like: \u201cYou know what? This isn\u2019t going to happen. I don\u2019t think this is going to work out.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tJon was asking me: \u201cWhat\u2019s going on with Dennis?\u201d and \u201cHas there been any communication?\u201d I said, \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s going to work out.\u201d All of a sudden, I felt God nudging me: \u201cWalk to your car.\u201d We were shooting in a small town in Oklahoma, and my car is about four blocks away. I walk to my car \/ got in my car\u2014had no idea why\u2014whipped out my computer, wrote an email to his agent that kind of put a deadline of four hours later. Smash cut\u2014four hours later, as the sun is setting\u2014I get a phone call from one of our assistants, who was communicating with Dennis; and it is Dennis Quaid on the other line.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>8:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tFirst thing he says to me\u2014I had never talked to him before\u2014first thing he says to me is, \u201cAm I too late?\u201d I said: \u201cDennis, you\u2019re never too late. It\u2019s really great to meet you.\u201d In \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t30 seconds, the deal was done; and he was on his way out to Oklahoma City. He jumped in with both\u2014I mean, just all in. It was cool to watch him perform in the film. And then a really neat story, once he saw the film for the first time\u2014I\u2019ll let Andy share.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Yes; along with that\u2014while that was going on with Dennis\u2014we really wanted somebody that was, you know, a really quality actor that would kind of embody the role but also really embrace this character\u2019s redemption. There are a lot of actors that won\u2019t do that. I had heard good things about Dennis because of him playing in <em>Soul Surfer<\/em> and other movies like that\u2014that he was very open to that\u2014but I was really starting to hit that panic moment.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOne of the people I called in the midst of that was Stephen Kendrick. Stephen and Alex have been mentors to Jon and myself for years. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>9:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just said: \u201cStephen, I feel like, \u2018What am I doing?\u2019 I\u2019m doing this movie\u2014we\u2019re already filming\u2014we don\u2019t have a star.\u201d He said: \u201cAndy, if God\u2019s in it, embrace closed doors. He won\u2019t let you miss the right open one.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said, \u201cOkay; alright, Lord, this is Your problem.\u201d Within hours of us hitting that deadline of the panic moment, God brought us Dennis Quaid. When he came in, he portrayed the role beautifully. You know, Dennis was raised in the church\u2014he was raised in Houston, Texas. He and his brother went to a Baptist church there in Houston. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI went to go show it to him at his house for the first time\u2014and showed him an early cut of the movie\u2014and it was him and his nine-year-old kids \/ he has two nine-year-old twins. After it was over, I turned around and said, \u201cDennis, what do you think?\u201d I turn around, and Dennis was\u2014I\u2019m talking ugly crying \/ I\u2019m talking sobbing\u2014[Laughter]\u2014you know, snotty nose \/ just a mess. [Laughter] He was like, \u201cThat was powerful!\u201d I couldn\u2019t say a whole lot; he hugged me three times\u2014we said our goodbyes and I left. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe called Bart that night, and they talked for five hours. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>10:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHe said, \u201cAfter Andy left, my kids started asking me about God and about heaven. We had conversations like we\u2019d never had before.\u201d He said, \u201cThis movie is about how God does His miracles, the hard way sometimes.\u201d He says, \u201cI\u2019m all in.\u201d It was really neat to see how that\u2014[Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Andy, we haven\u2019t talked about the theme of abuse that\u2019s in this movie. I\u2019ve seen it twice now. I was sitting on the front row, weeping\u2014just for the boys and the girls\u2014little girls and little boys, who have been abused by their daddies. You\u2019ve not just stopped with this theme in the movie\u2014you\u2019ve gone on to do something else, I noticed, in the credits at the end. Tell our listeners a little bit about the ministry that\u2019s being done to those who\u2019ve suffered from abuse.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>You know, we feel like our movies\u2014we feel like there\u2019s a double bottom line. Yes; we want to make an entertaining movie that\u2019s worth your price of admission\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>11:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014but the opportunity of the hearts that are moved\u2014we feel like we have an obligation to point them in the right direction.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Our vision is\u2014we want to bring the church to the theater. If there\u2019s a kid or an adult, who finds themselves in that theater not affiliated with the church\u2014and all of a sudden this movie is the message that they needed to hear\u2014we want to provide the answer of, \u201cNow what do I do?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Kevin, I just want you to know\u2014I think today presents an incredible opportunity for the church to reclaim the high moral and spiritual ground in our culture on a number of issues; but pragmatically to step into this one, where children are being hurt. I think\u2014you\u2019re giving the church, I think, a genuine place to make a difference and to speak to the culture\u2014to say: \u201cWe care. Our gospel is about getting people into heaven; but it\u2019s about the love of Christ being displayed for broken people, who\u2019ve suffered incredible harm and evil.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>12:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI just want to thank you guys for not just creating a great, entertaining movie, but at the end, giving the church a chance to step up and make a big difference. Thanks. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>At the end of the day, we\u2019re one body\u2014and we are the hands and the feet. We wanted to make something that was so easy for us to just pick up and go: \u201cYou know what? I can do that,\u201d and actually be one body, together, and be the hands and feet of Christ.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Andy, there had to be a conversation, at some point, about, \u201cDo we cast Bart as Bart in this movie?\u201d\u2014[Laughter]\u2014right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Yes; absolutely. You know, we talked about that. We had to make a conscious decision, \u201cDo we use the real people?\u201d because we also\u2014in the story, we highlight Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, and several other well-known people, especially within our core audience\u2014that they know them \/ that they\u2019re household names. We said: \u201cDo we use the real people and just kind of turn back the hands of time a little bit?\u201d or \u201cDo we go out and find these fresh faces?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>13:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOnce we committed \/ once we found\u2014we did an open casting call across the whole country, because we wanted somebody to do their own singing. Bart has an incredible range. We found this kid, John Michael Finley\u2014he submitted out of New York City\u2014never been in a movie, but he was in a Broadway play called <em>Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em>\u2014he played the understudy for Jean Valjean. I took Bart with me to go see the play. When it got to the song, <em>Bring Him Home<\/em>, I looked at Bart and I was like, \u201cIs this the guy?\u201d He was like, \u201cThis is the guy.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<em>\u00a0<\/em>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe pulled him in\u2014we started asking him about his story. His dad is an associate pastor at a church in Missouri. He grew up going to camps, hearing MercyMe sing; so it was a world that he knew really well. He stepped in, and he steals the show.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOnce we did that, we went out and found actors that really fit the people they were playing.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>But let me just\u2014Andy makes it sound so easy\u2014like this just happened. Have you ever been put in a situation where fear drives your decision-making, but you really know it shouldn\u2019t?\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>14:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014and you\u2019re like, \u201cGod, please let me leap \/ step out in an act of faith, because I know You\u2019re going to provide the right person.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe were presented with that many times, because\u2014think about it\u2014you\u2019re going to find a young actor that kind of resembles Bart\u2014that can sing, that can act, and gets the heart of what we\u2019re actually trying to do. Because it\u2019s one thing to act it; it\u2019s another thing to believe it and to portray it out on stage\u2014and that\u2019s not an easy thing to find. But God just said, [Makes a popping sound] \u201cHere you go, right here,\u201d\u2014we are blessed and gifted to have that young man in our cast.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>I saw some clips from the movie, early on. I said, \u201cAmy Grant did a great job.\u201d [Laughter] Seriously! And then they go, \u201cThat\u2019s an actress.\u201d I said, \u201cNo; that\u2019s Amy\u2026\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>For anybody in the room that has not figured it out, that was not actually Amy Grant. When she came in\u2014you know, we all know Amy really well. I did a music video for Amy, back in the day; so Jon and I consider her a dear friend. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>15:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnybody that knows Amy knows that she\u2019s one of the most generous people on the planet. So any actress that came in\u2014I said, \u201cYou know, we know Amy well, and, you know\u2026\u201d So anybody who came in: \u201cThat\u2019s not Amy,\u201d \u201cThat\u2019s not Amy.\u201d This girl walked in and had perfected Amy so much that I got <em>spooked<\/em>. We looked at each other like\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>\u201cThat\u2019s Amy Grant.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>\u201cWhat was that?\u201d So\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>I just want to confess\u2014you had me, because I thought it was Amy Grant. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI don\u2019t know how much you want to give away; but did that really happen?\u2014what happened at the end of the movie?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Yes; it did.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Seriously!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>It did. You know, that was what sold us on the movie; because we had already been talking to Bart about his story\u2014about his story with his dad. We were doing a radio show, one day down in Tampa, a morning show promoting <em>Woodlawn<\/em>. Off the air, the host asked us, \u201cWhat are you looking at next?\u201d We said, \u201cBart Millard\u2019s story\u2014MercyMe and <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em>.\u201d He said: \u201cOh my goodness. I was at the Ryman that night when Amy pulled up Bart on the stage.\u201d And I said\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>We were like, \u201cExcuse me?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Yes!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>You hadn\u2019t heard the story.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>16:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>No! We called Bart\u2014we were like, \u201cDid this happen?\u201d He was like: \u201cOh yes! I forgot to tell you guys that.\u201d [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>And this is the movie! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>I\u2019m like\u2014I guess that\u2019s the first day that my real life exceeded my imagination\u2014that was a good day. [Laughter] I was like: \u201cBart! How is this not in the script?!\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>All of a sudden, at that moment, the movie took shape. I remember a call with these guys, and you know\u2014like when seven-year-olds are so giddy on Christmas Day\u2014that was the conversation that happened, because we <em>knew<\/em> that the movie had just been found. They did such a great job\u2014you guys really did such a great job.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Kevin, we\u2019ve talked with our audience about this before, but we need to say it again: \u201cThis weekend is critical for, not just the success of this film, but for faith-based films having a place at the local cinemas.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Yes; yes\u2014amen is right. Look, this weekend is when we can make a difference\u2014not just in our communities, changing lives \/ the stories that you\u2019re going to hear\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>17:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t\u2014you\u2019re all going to hear them if you bring people or go with people to the film \/ you\u2019re going to see lives being changed in front of you\u2014but it\u2019s also the weekend that the media watches, and the media takes notice. We want to be on the headlines and surprise everybody, Monday morning, that <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em>: \u201cWhat is this movie?\u201d so that journalists have to actually go and investigate what we\u2019re all about, and what this movie is all about, and it brings more <em>awareness<\/em> to what our film is all about.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And it could be that next weekend it\u2019s in <em>more<\/em> theaters than this weekend; because if it succeeds on opening weekend, then theater owners say: \u201cOh, we didn\u2019t expect that. We\u2019ll give you more theaters.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Yes; yes. They will, all of a sudden, start requesting it: \u201cWe want this, this, this, and this,\u201d and we\u2019re prepared for that. God said, \u201cPrepare for rain,\u201d\u2014right?\u2014and so we\u2019re prepared for the harvest. On Monday morning, if the word is good, you\u2019re going to see big things happen following that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I was imagining\u2014[Applause] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>18:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYes; and as I was watching the movie, just experiencing it, I was thinking about Monday and beyond and the movie doing well; and I thought, \u201cI can imagine an Oscar nomination?\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>Dennis will take you anywhere you want to go to! [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>Why not have the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ show up at an event? [Applause] I\u2019m serious! I am really sick and tired of the messages that have been portrayed as being the core of our nation, and <em>this<\/em> has been the core of our freedom as a country. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI want you to turn this personally, at this point, to the crowd that\u2019s here live\u2014here on the <em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> cruise\u2014who just watched the movie. There\u2019s a man \/ a woman, who\u2019s watched this movie, who\u2019s suffered from abuse. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>19:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWhat would you gentlemen say to that young lady \/ that young man? What would be your counsel to them, going forward, leaving here after being touched profoundly and emotionally by this movie?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Kevin: <\/strong>First of all, I would say: \u201cToday is a new day.\u201d Just like Bart said, at the end of the movie, live\u2014actually, on C-Span, at the prayer breakfast: \u201cIf the gospel can change that dude, the gospel can change anyone.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s the exciting thing about it is\u2014when Christ died on the cross\u2014that means that yesterday is <em>gone<\/em>; it\u2019s absolutely <em>gone<\/em>. That <em>alone<\/em> is enough to be <em>so excited<\/em>\u2014when two people are coming from a hurt past, when all of a sudden, they have a bond that they connect; and it focuses on the cross. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>20:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>To add to that\u2014you know, as we\u2019ve done this movie, Bart\u2019s one of my best friends\u2014and kind of getting a little bit of a glimpse into his pain, as he\u2019s been vulnerable\u2014you have a deep degree of empathy from us towards you if you\u2019ve gone through that. I think, if you really want to understand God\u2019s compassion and heart for your pain, listen to songs that Bart\u2019s written in the past three or four years, like <em>They\u2019re a Younger Me<\/em>. That was specifically geared towards his eight-year-old self\u2014of what he would go back and tell him about God\u2019s unconditional love for him as he was going through that pain. God loves you, and He is faithful to meet you right where you\u2019re at.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe second thing\u2014I would turn it around\u2014is for those of you that may have been on the other side\u2014the Arthur-side of that equation\u2014that thought to yourself: \u201cI couldn\u2019t\u2014it\u2019s too late for me. I\u2019ve screwed up too much, and there\u2019s no hope for that restoration.\u201d This is a man that, at the twilight of his life, as he was dying of cancer, God did a work in his heart, and completely redeemed and restored a broken relationship with his son. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>21:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd as a result, I think millions and millions of people are going to hear about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Arthur\u2019s already in heaven, getting rewards for that. I think that God\u2019s grace is big enough for your worst mistake, and no relationship is too far gone to redeem. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>Great movie. [Applause]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Thank you. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And I would just say to this audience\u2014if you\u2019re in that group of people, who\u2019ve experienced this, two things: number one, you\u2019re called, as a follower of Christ, to forgive as you\u2019ve been forgiven. There\u2019s a profound moment in the movie where Bart was reminded of something he\u2019d written to himself, as a boy, at a youth camp, calling to forgive. I think we need to go back to the gospel in our own lives and practice it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tAnd then the second thing that I think is equally important is\u2014if you\u2019ve been abused, use that pain. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>22:00<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThere was a line in there by\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>\u2014Trace.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>\u2014by Trace. It was, \u201cUse the pain that has impacted you to sing the song from your soul.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andy: <\/strong>Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dennis: <\/strong>And if we\u2019ve been forgiven, we can tell the story of what God has done in our lives and in our parents\u2019 lives to pass it on to other people. We live in a broken culture; and there\u2019s not going to be less abuse, there\u2019s going to be more. We need to be messengers, I believe, as both men and women, of that message of healing to the nation.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>And we hope all of you here will go again, this weekend, to see <em>I Can Only Imagine<\/em>\u2014bring your friends.
