We really didn\u2019t get a chance to talk about this last week, but I just got back from being on the FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage cruise.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Aren\u2019t you special.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Oh, wait. Are you rubbing it in that we weren\u2019t there? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We missed you this year. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Oh, okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>It was sad not to have you guys joining us on the cruise, but you were very busy with the launch of <em>Vertical Marriage<\/em>; so you had a lot of stuff going on. I\u2019ll tell you\u2014it was a great week onboard the cruise. We\u2019re going to feature, this week, some of the messages we heard on the cruise. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe want to encourage listeners\u2014if you\u2019ve ever thought about going on one of these cruises\u2014first of all, it\u2019s a remarkable event\u2014surprising to me. I don\u2019t know how you guys felt the first time you went on the cruise, but I was surprised at the kind of ministry that happens onboard\u2014how couples connect on this event.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Exactly; we were <em>blown<\/em> away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Shocked!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> First cruise we took\u2014we sort of weren\u2019t excited.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Really? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Honestly; I\u2019m just being honest. We were glad to go\u2014we were going to speak about marriage, and we were excited about that\u2014but we were like, \u201cA cruise\/a marriage\u201d\u2014I kept telling Ann [sarcastically], \u201cWe\u2019re going on the <em>Love<\/em> Boat!\u201d\u2014you know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> He goes: \u201cWhat are we going to <em>do<\/em>? We\u2019re going to be on that cruise.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> And then we experienced it. We got off the boat after that week and it was just what you said\u2014not only was it a <em>fun<\/em> time and enjoyable\u2014but God does ministry in couples\u2019 lives. There\u2019s so many great things going on, on that boat. It blew us away; it was one of the <em>best<\/em> things we\u2019ve ever done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> It\u2019s rich, and there aren\u2019t just speakers\u2014which they have <em>dynamic<\/em> speakers that are inspiring\u2014they take you to a depth of your soul; but then there\u2019s comedians; there\u2019s music. It is really, really good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, next year\u2019s the tenth anniversary for the <em>Love Like You Mean It <\/em>marriage cruise. To celebrate, we\u2019re going to be on a completely different ship in 2020. In fact, we\u2019re going to be on one of the largest cruise ships in the world. It\u2019s a ship called the <em>Allure of the Seas<\/em> from Royal Caribbean. I looked at this\u2014there is a zip line; there\u2019s an indoor ice skating rink. I mean\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Ooh, I\u2019m doing all of that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> All of that plus the speakers\/plus the music\u2014plus all of this stuff. We\u2019re going to have the <em>whole<\/em> ship\u20145,500 people. Andrea\u2019s a speaker all across the country as well. They\u2019ve got five kids. They live near South Bend, Indiana. They spoke this year about myths that exist in our culture today related to marriage and helped us recognize that the cultural perspective on marriage is different than the biblical perspective on marriage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent: <\/strong>Okay; how many married couples do we have in the room? [Cheers] Alright. How many of you are still in love? [Cheers] I like that the volume went up and didn\u2019t go down there. That was designed well there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> Let me show you a picture of a happily married couple; here it is right here. Actually, when that picture was taken, they weren\u2019t yet married; they would be married about two hours after that photo was taken. I want you to zero in on the one in the middle\u2014that is Brooke, my first-born child. I also want you to notice the creepy suspicious guy standing next to her, who just looks like he <em>stole something<\/em>!\u2014[Laughter]\u2014that\u2019s David\u2014that is now my son-in-law. Actually, I love David\u2014he\u2019s a great guy; he\u2019s one of my best friends now. Anyway, that picture was taken about seven months ago; that was our family on that beautiful afternoon before the wedding.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> Yes; and as the mother of the bride, I was so excited; and Brooke was so excited. As I talked to my friends and tell them the plans about the wedding, some people would catch the excitement with me; but then others, I noticed they would just get this really puzzled look on their face. Some of them actually said: \u201cWait, like you mean people <em>still<\/em> do that? They still get married? Isn\u2019t that a little risky?\u201d\u2014or I don\u2019t even know how many times I heard\u2014\u201cAren\u2019t they going to live together first? You know, they really should try it out before they get all in in this marriage thing.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI started to learn that not everyone thinks about marriage the way <em>I<\/em> do. I was so excited and so happy; and yet, all these other responses. I began to realize, \u201cYou know, people really think that marriage is old fashioned, at best, and maybe even obsolete, at worst.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t,\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> As the wedding date was approaching and the countdown was coming\u2014you see I was, not only father of the bride, I was also the pastor of the church\u2014so during the wedding ceremony, I had to do double duty; right? Brooke came to me\u2014she\u2019s like: \u201cDad, we know you have a lot to say about marriage. We don\u2019t want a four-hour wedding; okay? [Laughter] So you\u2019ve got like 12 minutes.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said: \u201cThat\u2019s alright; that\u2019s alright. Because the five weeks leading up to the wedding, I\u2019m taking the church through a sermon series on marriage.\u201d [Laughter] I told the church: \u201cI\u2019m not pastoring these five weeks\u2014I am <em>parenting<\/em>\u2014because David and Brooke are sitting on the front row, and I\u2019ve got a few things that they need to know before they dive into this.\u201d There were a few myths about marriage I wanted to make sure that, especially, <em>David<\/em> understood and Brooke was reminded of. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo out of that came these myths. These are modern marriage myths that, unfortunately, I think probably a lot of people in this room believe; okay? You\u2019ve already figured out what myth number one is\u2014here it is: \u201cMarriage is obsolete,\u201d\u2014you know, like the encyclopedia. One of my younger children came to me a few weeks ago and said \u201cDad, what\u2019s an encyclopedia?\u201d I said, \u201cJust google it.\u201d [Laughter] Anybody bring any film on the boat?\u2014anybody take any film, and take it to Wal-Mart<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, and get it developed like, you know, four days after you get off the ship? Yes; it\u2019s obsolete; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, see, the culture thinks that marriage is like an encyclopedia or <em>film<\/em>\u2014it\u2019s just obsolete: \u201cWe don\u2019t need that anymore. It\u2019s so old fashioned.\u201d Did you know that \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t40 percent of unmarried adults in America admit they think marriage is obsolete? In the year 1960, 72 percent of Americans were married. <em>Today<\/em>, that number is less than half. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve got a question for you: \u201cIf we think marriage is obsolete, can I ask you, \u2018Why did <em>two billion<\/em> people on the planet watch Harry and Meghan exchange <em>vows<\/em> to one another during the royal wedding?\u2019\u201d I\u2019ll tell you why\u2014it\u2019s because, inside the heart of every woman, there is a <em>princess<\/em>, who is <em>longing<\/em> to be <em>loved<\/em> for a <em>lifetime<\/em> with an <em>exclusive promise<\/em> by a <em>prince<\/em> to love her, <em>royally<\/em>. We <em>all<\/em> want this <em>dream<\/em> of marriage. We <em>really<\/em> don\u2019t believe it\u2019s obsolete, and there\u2019s <em>really<\/em> no evidence that it is. If you are married, you are doing something the culture thinks is counter-cultural. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> Our culture\u2014we want something\u2014we want to connect. We know we want something more than dating but maybe something short of a lifelong commitment to marriage. So you kind of have to ask the question: \u201cWhy?\u2014why are we moving away from marriage, as a culture?\u201d I don\u2019t know all the reasons for that, but I think one reason is\u2014I don\u2019t think many of us have seen a durable, permanent, intimate marriage; so we just don\u2019t even know if it exists anymore. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThink about the home you grew up in: \u201cWhat was the atmosphere? What was the culture? Was it sweet? Was it something that you wanted for yourself?\u201d I think those friends of mine, who were thinking Brooke was getting into something risky and scary\u2014they\u2019ve never seen a good marriage, and so they were taking backwards steps; they were backing up from it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, now\u2014we, as married couples\u2014we have the privilege and the responsibility of modeling marriage to our children\/to a culture that is watching. You know what a model does; right? A model puts something on, and they make it look <em>really<\/em> good\u2014like so good, that you <em>want<\/em> it; right? Like take, for instance, Trent and his shirt\u2014isn\u2019t he just modeling this aqua shirt for us so nicely? [Whistles in background] It just makes you want the shirt; right?\u2014[Laughter]\u2014yes; well, that\u2019s what we get to do with marriage. We get to make it look <em>so good<\/em> that our kids\/that our culture says: \u201cI want that. I\u2019m all in.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> A lot of people think that marriage is obsolete, because they think God is obsolete; and yet, God has spoken into marriage\u2014God is the inventor of marriage. We believe that marriage is good\u2014that\u2019s what replaces the myth. Here\u2019s where He has told us about that\u2014it\u2019s in part of the Bible\u2014it\u2019s Proverbs, Chapter 18, verse 22. This is what God says about marriage\u2014He says, \u201cHe who finds a wife finds a good thing.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOkay, guys; you missed an opportunity there; alright? [Laughter] Now, I\u2019m going to rewind that; I\u2019m going to give you another chance to love her like you mean it; okay? So we\u2019ll rewind that a little bit\u2014you see, in God\u2019s Word, in Proverbs 18:22, God says, \u201cHe who finds a wife finds a good thing.\u201d [Loud cheering] There you go! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou see, marriage is good\u2014it\u2019s good for a man; it\u2019s good for a woman, and it\u2019s good for children. Scientific research has proven this. Do you know that married people live longer, are physically healthier, show fewer signs of mental illness? They make more money, build more wealth, have more sex\u2014better than single or divorced people. Marriage is <em>good<\/em>\u2014it\u2019s good for you. And when I say, \u201cIt\u2019s good,\u201d I don\u2019t mean it\u2019s good like broccoli is good. [Laughter] I mean marriage is good like Krispy Kreme Doughnut<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> is good; okay?\u2014[Cheers]\u2014soft-serve ice cream, in unlimited portions, with no children to lick it or take it away from you. [Laughter] Marriage is good!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s the second myth: \u201cMarriage will make me happy.\u201d Happiness is the universal longing of the human heart\u2014God put it in there\u2014but God did not design marriage to make you happy. There is not another human being on the planet that can meet your need for happiness. As good as I make this shirt look, [Laughter] it does not mean that me in this shirt always makes Andrea happy. You see, you take two selfish people and you marry them, what you have is two ticks; <em>no dog<\/em>. [Laughter] They will suck the <em>life<\/em> out of each other. [Laughter] If you believe that marriage will make you happy, what you\u2019re saying on your wedding day is this: \u201cMy happiness is now <em>your<\/em> responsibility, and my <em>unhappiness<\/em> is your fault.\u201d That is a <em>crushing<\/em> weight that your spouse will <em>not<\/em> be able to support. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, in order to be happy, whether you are single or married, you have to look to something <em>outside<\/em> of the marriage. I tell single people all the time: \u201cIf you are a <em>miserable<\/em> single person, you are going to be a <em>miserable<\/em> married person,\u201d and \u201cYou\u2019re going to create another miserable married person\u2014the person that you marry.\u201d You have to look to something <em>outside<\/em> of the marriage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> I really believed this myth when we first got married. I was looking <em>forward<\/em> to marriage making me happy. One of the ways that I just <em>knew<\/em> would make me the happiest\u2014I just knew, <em>every night<\/em> as I was falling asleep, that Trent would <em>hold<\/em> me. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> Well, you see what happened was\u2014[Laughter]\u2014I found it very difficult to sleep with another human being, like pressed up against me\u2014like <em>breathing.<\/em> [Laughter] And then, somehow hair would migrate over and start tickling my face; so I\u2019m like: \u201cListen, we need a gap. [Laughter] We need a border; okay? If I\u2019m going to get any sleep, you\u2019ve got to stay over here; and I\u2019ve got to stay over here. Now, if you mean business, you can come over any time! [Laughter] If we\u2019re going to <em>sleep<\/em>, we\u2019ve got to have a gap.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> Yes; yes. So I wasn\u2019t so selfish that I <em>just<\/em> thought of me, going into marriage; I was thinking of him too. I thought, \u201cI wonder how many times the average married couple makes love in any given week?\u201d Here I am\u2014about to get married\u2014I\u2019m thinking I really need to find the answer to that, because I know that\u2019s going to help make him happy. I found this <em>Reader\u2019s Digest<\/em>. [Laughter] Right there, on the front cover, it was just telling me that; so I read in there. I look it up and it says that the average married couple makes love 2.1 times a week. I\u2019m reading that; and I think: \u201cOkay; I can do this. I can do this.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> Let me just categorically state that .1 has never made <em>anyone<\/em> happy; okay? [Laughter] I don\u2019t even know what .1 is. How do you\u2014what is that; okay?\u2014but then, <em>Reader\u2019s Digest? <\/em>I wanted to make her happy, too; but I\u2019d been reading the <em>Guinness Book of World Records<\/em>. [Laughter] They had a different number!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> So we all come into marriage with these different expectations. We don\u2019t even realize how different they are until one of us ends up disappointed; right? Then, we kind of trace it back and we realize, \u201cOh, I had an expectation there,\u201d\u2014yes? Or differences\u2014we think we\u2019re <em>so<\/em> alike before we get married; then after we get married, we\u2019re like: \u201c<em>How<\/em> can we be this different? There\u2019s no way that two people could be this different.\u201d Just between those differences, or our own weaknesses, or where we fail in our differing expectations, all of a sudden, we\u2019re like: \u201cYou know, this marriage isn\u2019t making me so happy\u201d; so we\u2019ve got to replace that with the <em>truth<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> Alright; so here\u2019s the truth that replaces myth number two. It is not marriage that will make you happy. Here\u2019s the truth: \u201cMarriage will make me <em>better<\/em>.\u201d [Cheers and applause] Those of you that are clapping are quite convinced you are there to make your spouse better. [Laughter] You\u2019re missing the point: \u201cHow does marriage make <em>me<\/em> better?\u201d Listen: \u201cMarriage will make me <em>grow<\/em>,\u201d \u201cMarriage will make me <em>change<\/em>,\u201d and \u201cMarriage will make me holy,\u201d if you will let it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, we\u2019ve been listening to Part One of a message from our friends, Trent and Andrea Griffith, about myths related to marriage in our culture. This is from the <em>Love Like You Mean It <\/em>marriage cruise, which just ended a few weeks ago. You\u2019d agree with that\u2014you guys are better today because you married each other.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> I made Dave a lot better. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> He\u2019d be a wreck today if it weren\u2019t for you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> It\u2019s because I had so many flaws, it made him need Jesus even more. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> She did make me a lot better. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNo; I mean what Trent and Andrea are getting at is so true. I mean, it\u2019s like you can buy into the culture\u2019s view of marriage, which is myth; or you can buy into God\u2019s Word, which is what they were talking about. It\u2019s strange how marriage makes you better. You think it\u2019s because: \u201cNow, I have a person, that\u2019s going to make me happy.\u201d The truth is: \u201cYou find out the flaws, and the trials, and the hard things that you go through\u2014because you\u2019re married\u2014bring out something great in us if we allow God to do that,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s what God does.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> If you ask most people today, \u201cWhen have been the times of accelerated spiritual growth in your life?\u201d they will not point you to the mountain tops; will they?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Never; they always go to the valley, where they had to bend their knee before Jesus and cry out for help; and He <em>always<\/em> meets us there. He <em>always<\/em> is there when we\u2019re crying out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And that\u2019s true, even when we\u2019re at odds with one another in marriage\/even when we go through dark times together. God is using those valleys to help us become more like Jesus. And then, when you\u2019re out of the valley\u2014and you get out of the valley\u2014your marriage is better; you\u2019re better\/you\u2019re stronger; and you look back and you say, \u201cWasn\u2019t God good to take us through boot camp so that we could be ready for what we\u2019re facing?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Yes; and the myth is, you know: \u201cWhen it gets hard, people say, \u2018I\u2019m out.\u2019\u201d You know, the myth is: \u201cI don\u2019t deserve this. It shouldn\u2019t be this hard.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe truth is: \u201cIt is hard. God is going to actually really do something to make you better. Fight for it. Hang on and fight through it; and you\u2019ll be a better person\u2014better marriage\/better legacy\u2014after.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> There was a study done in the state of Oklahoma, years ago, where they had asked couples, who had been considering divorce, and for whatever reason they had decided not to go through with their divorce. Well, they waited five years from that crisis point in the marriage; and they went to those couples and said \u201cOn a scale of 1-5\u20145 being \u201cGreat\u201d \/ 1 being \u201cWorthless\u201d\u2014where would you rate your marriage?\u201d Eighty-three percent of the couples, who had been thinking about divorce five years earlier, gave their marriage a 4 or a 5. The point is: \u201cIf you persevere through the hard times, things are <em>better<\/em> on the other side. If you\u2019ll just hang in, you\u2019ll find that, when you press through the valley, there\u2019s a green pasture ahead; and it\u2019s a sweet place to be.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Every single marriage goes through times that you\u2019re in a valley\u2014a good marriage and a bad marriage\u2014and that\u2019s normal. The question is: \u201cWill we go before Jesus in that and ask Him to change us?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> And I\u2019ll add this\u2014because I asked my dad <em>one time<\/em>\/I was in my thirties\u2014\u201cDad, did you ever regret the divorce?\u201d <em>Immediate<\/em> answer: \u201cYes; I wish I would have held on. I wish I would have fought.\u201d He was looking at me and he said, \u201cI missed out on your life.\u201d You know, it\u2019s one of those men that went through it to say, \u201cHey, if I could do it all over again, I\u2019d say,\u201d\u2014what we\u2019re saying\u2014\u201c\u2019Fight for your marriage; hang on.\u2019\u201d He didn\u2019t know it; but if you do\u2014the study proves it\u2014you might just have a top-10 marriage if you fight for it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, again, the message we\u2019ve heard today from Trent and Andrea Griffith\u2014if you\u2019d like to listen to it, in its entirety, you can go to our website\u2014FamilyLifeToday.com\u2014and the message is available there. We really didn\u2019t get a chance to talk about this last week, but I just got back from being on the FamilyLife<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><em>Love Like You Mean It<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup> marriage cruise.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Aren\u2019t you special.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Oh, wait. Are you rubbing it in that we weren\u2019t there? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> We missed you this year. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann: <\/strong>Oh, okay.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob: <\/strong>It was sad not to have you guys joining us on the cruise, but you were very busy with the launch of <em>Vertical Marriage<\/em>; so you had a lot of stuff going on. I\u2019ll tell you\u2014it was a great week onboard the cruise. We\u2019re going to feature, this week, some of the messages we heard on the cruise. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWe want to encourage listeners\u2014if you\u2019ve ever thought about going on one of these cruises\u2014first of all, it\u2019s a remarkable event\u2014surprising to me. I don\u2019t know how you guys felt the first time you went on the cruise, but I was surprised at the kind of ministry that happens onboard\u2014how couples connect on this event.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Exactly; we were <em>blown<\/em> away.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Shocked!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> First cruise we took\u2014we sort of weren\u2019t excited.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Really? [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Honestly; I\u2019m just being honest. We were glad to go\u2014we were going to speak about marriage, and we were excited about that\u2014but we were like, \u201cA cruise\/a marriage\u201d\u2014I kept telling Ann [sarcastically], \u201cWe\u2019re going on the <em>Love<\/em> Boat!\u201d\u2014you know?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> He goes: \u201cWhat are we going to <em>do<\/em>? We\u2019re going to be on that cruise.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> And then we experienced it. We got off the boat after that week and it was just what you said\u2014not only was it a <em>fun<\/em> time and enjoyable\u2014but God does ministry in couples\u2019 lives. There\u2019s so many great things going on, on that boat. It blew us away; it was one of the <em>best<\/em> things we\u2019ve ever done.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> It\u2019s rich, and there aren\u2019t just speakers\u2014which they have <em>dynamic<\/em> speakers that are inspiring\u2014they take you to a depth of your soul; but then there\u2019s comedians; there\u2019s music. It is really, really good.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, next year\u2019s the tenth anniversary for the <em>Love Like You Mean It <\/em>marriage cruise. To celebrate, we\u2019re going to be on a completely different ship in 2020. In fact, we\u2019re going to be on one of the largest cruise ships in the world. It\u2019s a ship called the <em>Allure of the Seas<\/em> from Royal Caribbean. I looked at this\u2014there is a zip line; there\u2019s an indoor ice skating rink. I mean\u2014\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Ooh, I\u2019m doing all of that.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> All of that plus the speakers\/plus the music\u2014plus all of this stuff. We\u2019re going to have the <em>whole<\/em> ship\u20145,500 people. You\u2019ve spoken at <em>Weekend to Remember<\/em><sup>\u00ae <\/sup>getaways with them; right?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave: <\/strong>Oh, I <em>love<\/em> this couple.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Me too.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> They\u2019re dynamic.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> And they\u2019re super wise; they bring a <em>lot<\/em> to the table.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Trent is the founding pastor at Gospel City Church in Granger, Indiana. Andrea\u2019s a speaker all across the country as well. They\u2019ve got five kids. They live near South Bend, Indiana. They spoke this year about myths that exist in our culture today related to marriage and helped us recognize that the cultural perspective on marriage is different than the biblical perspective on marriage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Recorded Message]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent: <\/strong>Okay; how many married couples do we have in the room? [Cheers] Alright. How many of you are still in love? [Cheers] I like that the volume went up and didn\u2019t go down there. That was designed well there.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> Yes.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> Let me show you a picture of a happily married couple; here it is right here. Actually, when that picture was taken, they weren\u2019t yet married; they would be married about two hours after that photo was taken. I want you to zero in on the one in the middle\u2014that is Brooke, my first-born child. I also want you to notice the creepy suspicious guy standing next to her, who just looks like he <em>stole something<\/em>!\u2014[Laughter]\u2014that\u2019s David\u2014that is now my son-in-law. Actually, I love David\u2014he\u2019s a great guy; he\u2019s one of my best friends now. Anyway, that picture was taken about seven months ago; that was our family on that beautiful afternoon before the wedding.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> Yes; and as the mother of the bride, I was so excited; and Brooke was so excited. As I talked to my friends and tell them the plans about the wedding, some people would catch the excitement with me; but then others, I noticed they would just get this really puzzled look on their face. Some of them actually said: \u201cWait, like you mean people <em>still<\/em> do that? They still get married? Isn\u2019t that a little risky?\u201d\u2014or I don\u2019t even know how many times I heard\u2014\u201cAren\u2019t they going to live together first? You know, they really should try it out before they get all in in this marriage thing.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI started to learn that not everyone thinks about marriage the way <em>I<\/em> do. I was so excited and so happy; and yet, all these other responses. I began to realize, \u201cYou know, people really think that marriage is old fashioned, at best, and maybe even obsolete, at worst.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t,\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> As the wedding date was approaching and the countdown was coming\u2014you see I was, not only father of the bride, I was also the pastor of the church\u2014so during the wedding ceremony, I had to do double duty; right? Brooke came to me\u2014she\u2019s like: \u201cDad, we know you have a lot to say about marriage. We don\u2019t want a four-hour wedding; okay? [Laughter] So you\u2019ve got like 12 minutes.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI said: \u201cThat\u2019s alright; that\u2019s alright. Because the five weeks leading up to the wedding, I\u2019m taking the church through a sermon series on marriage.\u201d [Laughter] I told the church: \u201cI\u2019m not pastoring these five weeks\u2014I am <em>parenting<\/em>\u2014because David and Brooke are sitting on the front row, and I\u2019ve got a few things that they need to know before they dive into this.\u201d There were a few myths about marriage I wanted to make sure that, especially, <em>David<\/em> understood and Brooke was reminded of. [Laughter] \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo out of that came these myths. These are modern marriage myths that, unfortunately, I think probably a lot of people in this room believe; okay? You\u2019ve already figured out what myth number one is\u2014here it is: \u201cMarriage is obsolete,\u201d\u2014you know, like the encyclopedia. One of my younger children came to me a few weeks ago and said \u201cDad, what\u2019s an encyclopedia?\u201d I said, \u201cJust google it.\u201d [Laughter] Anybody bring any film on the boat?\u2014anybody take any film, and take it to Wal-Mart<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, and get it developed like, you know, four days after you get off the ship? Yes; it\u2019s obsolete; right? \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tWell, see, the culture thinks that marriage is like an encyclopedia or <em>film<\/em>\u2014it\u2019s just obsolete: \u201cWe don\u2019t need that anymore. It\u2019s so old fashioned.\u201d Did you know that \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t40 percent of unmarried adults in America admit they think marriage is obsolete? In the year 1960, 72 percent of Americans were married. <em>Today<\/em>, that number is less than half. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tI\u2019ve got a question for you: \u201cIf we think marriage is obsolete, can I ask you, \u2018Why did <em>two billion<\/em> people on the planet watch Harry and Meghan exchange <em>vows<\/em> to one another during the royal wedding?\u2019\u201d I\u2019ll tell you why\u2014it\u2019s because, inside the heart of every woman, there is a <em>princess<\/em>, who is <em>longing<\/em> to be <em>loved<\/em> for a <em>lifetime<\/em> with an <em>exclusive promise<\/em> by a <em>prince<\/em> to love her, <em>royally<\/em>. We <em>all<\/em> want this <em>dream<\/em> of marriage. We <em>really<\/em> don\u2019t believe it\u2019s obsolete, and there\u2019s <em>really<\/em> no evidence that it is. If you are married, you are doing something the culture thinks is counter-cultural. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> Our culture\u2014we want something\u2014we want to connect. We know we want something more than dating but maybe something short of a lifelong commitment to marriage. So you kind of have to ask the question: \u201cWhy?\u2014why are we moving away from marriage, as a culture?\u201d I don\u2019t know all the reasons for that, but I think one reason is\u2014I don\u2019t think many of us have seen a durable, permanent, intimate marriage; so we just don\u2019t even know if it exists anymore. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThink about the home you grew up in: \u201cWhat was the atmosphere? What was the culture? Was it sweet? Was it something that you wanted for yourself?\u201d I think those friends of mine, who were thinking Brooke was getting into something risky and scary\u2014they\u2019ve never seen a good marriage, and so they were taking backwards steps; they were backing up from it. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou know, now\u2014we, as married couples\u2014we have the privilege and the responsibility of modeling marriage to our children\/to a culture that is watching. You know what a model does; right? A model puts something on, and they make it look <em>really<\/em> good\u2014like so good, that you <em>want<\/em> it; right? Like take, for instance, Trent and his shirt\u2014isn\u2019t he just modeling this aqua shirt for us so nicely? [Whistles in background] It just makes you want the shirt; right?\u2014[Laughter]\u2014yes; well, that\u2019s what we get to do with marriage. We get to make it look <em>so good<\/em> that our kids\/that our culture says: \u201cI want that. I\u2019m all in.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> A lot of people think that marriage is obsolete, because they think God is obsolete; and yet, God has spoken into marriage\u2014God is the inventor of marriage. We believe that marriage is good\u2014that\u2019s what replaces the myth. Here\u2019s where He has told us about that\u2014it\u2019s in part of the Bible\u2014it\u2019s Proverbs, Chapter 18, verse 22. This is what God says about marriage\u2014He says, \u201cHe who finds a wife finds a good thing.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tOkay, guys; you missed an opportunity there; alright? [Laughter] Now, I\u2019m going to rewind that; I\u2019m going to give you another chance to love her like you mean it; okay? So we\u2019ll rewind that a little bit\u2014you see, in God\u2019s Word, in Proverbs 18:22, God says, \u201cHe who finds a wife finds a good thing.\u201d [Loud cheering] There you go! \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tYou see, marriage is good\u2014it\u2019s good for a man; it\u2019s good for a woman, and it\u2019s good for children. Scientific research has proven this. Do you know that married people live longer, are physically healthier, show fewer signs of mental illness? They make more money, build more wealth, have more sex\u2014better than single or divorced people. Marriage is <em>good<\/em>\u2014it\u2019s good for you. And when I say, \u201cIt\u2019s good,\u201d I don\u2019t mean it\u2019s good like broccoli is good. [Laughter] I mean marriage is good like Krispy Kreme Doughnut<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> is good; okay?\u2014[Cheers]\u2014soft-serve ice cream, in unlimited portions, with no children to lick it or take it away from you. [Laughter] Marriage is good!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tHere\u2019s the second myth: \u201cMarriage will make me happy.\u201d Happiness is the universal longing of the human heart\u2014God put it in there\u2014but God did not design marriage to make you happy. There is not another human being on the planet that can meet your need for happiness. As good as I make this shirt look, [Laughter] it does not mean that me in this shirt always makes Andrea happy. You see, you take two selfish people and you marry them, what you have is two ticks; <em>no dog<\/em>. [Laughter] They will suck the <em>life<\/em> out of each other. [Laughter] If you believe that marriage will make you happy, what you\u2019re saying on your wedding day is this: \u201cMy happiness is now <em>your<\/em> responsibility, and my <em>unhappiness<\/em> is your fault.\u201d That is a <em>crushing<\/em> weight that your spouse will <em>not<\/em> be able to support. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tSo, in order to be happy, whether you are single or married, you have to look to something <em>outside<\/em> of the marriage. I tell single people all the time: \u201cIf you are a <em>miserable<\/em> single person, you are going to be a <em>miserable<\/em> married person,\u201d and \u201cYou\u2019re going to create another miserable married person\u2014the person that you marry.\u201d You have to look to something <em>outside<\/em> of the marriage.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> I really believed this myth when we first got married. I was looking <em>forward<\/em> to marriage making me happy. One of the ways that I just <em>knew<\/em> would make me the happiest\u2014I just knew, <em>every night<\/em> as I was falling asleep, that Trent would <em>hold<\/em> me. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> Well, you see what happened was\u2014[Laughter]\u2014I found it very difficult to sleep with another human being, like pressed up against me\u2014like <em>breathing.<\/em> [Laughter] And then, somehow hair would migrate over and start tickling my face; so I\u2019m like: \u201cListen, we need a gap. [Laughter] We need a border; okay? If I\u2019m going to get any sleep, you\u2019ve got to stay over here; and I\u2019ve got to stay over here. Now, if you mean business, you can come over any time! [Laughter] If we\u2019re going to <em>sleep<\/em>, we\u2019ve got to have a gap.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> Yes; yes. So I wasn\u2019t so selfish that I <em>just<\/em> thought of me, going into marriage; I was thinking of him too. I thought, \u201cI wonder how many times the average married couple makes love in any given week?\u201d Here I am\u2014about to get married\u2014I\u2019m thinking I really need to find the answer to that, because I know that\u2019s going to help make him happy. I found this <em>Reader\u2019s Digest<\/em>. [Laughter] Right there, on the front cover, it was just telling me that; so I read in there. I look it up and it says that the average married couple makes love 2.1 times a week. I\u2019m reading that; and I think: \u201cOkay; I can do this. I can do this.\u201d [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> Let me just categorically state that .1 has never made <em>anyone<\/em> happy; okay? [Laughter] I don\u2019t even know what .1 is. How do you\u2014what is that; okay?\u2014but then, <em>Reader\u2019s Digest? <\/em>I wanted to make her happy, too; but I\u2019d been reading the <em>Guinness Book of World Records<\/em>. [Laughter] They had a different number!\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Andrea:<\/strong> So we all come into marriage with these different expectations. We don\u2019t even realize how different they are until one of us ends up disappointed; right? Then, we kind of trace it back and we realize, \u201cOh, I had an expectation there,\u201d\u2014yes? Or differences\u2014we think we\u2019re <em>so<\/em> alike before we get married; then after we get married, we\u2019re like: \u201c<em>How<\/em> can we be this different? There\u2019s no way that two people could be this different.\u201d Just between those differences, or our own weaknesses, or where we fail in our differing expectations, all of a sudden, we\u2019re like: \u201cYou know, this marriage isn\u2019t making me so happy\u201d; so we\u2019ve got to replace that with the <em>truth<\/em>.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Trent:<\/strong> Alright; so here\u2019s the truth that replaces myth number two. It is not marriage that will make you happy. Here\u2019s the truth: \u201cMarriage will make me <em>better<\/em>.\u201d [Cheers and applause] Those of you that are clapping are quite convinced you are there to make your spouse better. [Laughter] You\u2019re missing the point: \u201cHow does marriage make <em>me<\/em> better?\u201d Listen: \u201cMarriage will make me <em>grow<\/em>,\u201d \u201cMarriage will make me <em>change<\/em>,\u201d and \u201cMarriage will make me holy,\u201d if you will let it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t[Studio]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, we\u2019ve been listening to Part One of a message from our friends, Trent and Andrea Griffith, about myths related to marriage in our culture. This is from the <em>Love Like You Mean It <\/em>marriage cruise, which just ended a few weeks ago. You\u2019d agree with that\u2014you guys are better today because you married each other.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> I made Dave a lot better. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> He\u2019d be a wreck today if it weren\u2019t for you.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> It\u2019s because I had so many flaws, it made him need Jesus even more. [Laughter]\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> She did make me a lot better. \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tNo; I mean what Trent and Andrea are getting at is so true. I mean, it\u2019s like you can buy into the culture\u2019s view of marriage, which is myth; or you can buy into God\u2019s Word, which is what they were talking about. It\u2019s strange how marriage makes you better. You think it\u2019s because: \u201cNow, I have a person, that\u2019s going to make me happy.\u201d The truth is: \u201cYou find out the flaws, and the trials, and the hard things that you go through\u2014because you\u2019re married\u2014bring out something great in us if we allow God to do that,\u201d\u2014that\u2019s what God does.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> If you ask most people today, \u201cWhen have been the times of accelerated spiritual growth in your life?\u201d they will not point you to the mountain tops; will they?\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Never; they always go to the valley, where they had to bend their knee before Jesus and cry out for help; and He <em>always<\/em> meets us there. He <em>always<\/em> is there when we\u2019re crying out.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> And that\u2019s true, even when we\u2019re at odds with one another in marriage\/even when we go through dark times together. God is using those valleys to help us become more like Jesus. And then, when you\u2019re out of the valley\u2014and you get out of the valley\u2014your marriage is better; you\u2019re better\/you\u2019re stronger; and you look back and you say, \u201cWasn\u2019t God good to take us through boot camp so that we could be ready for what we\u2019re facing?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> Yes; and the myth is, you know: \u201cWhen it gets hard, people say, \u2018I\u2019m out.\u2019\u201d You know, the myth is: \u201cI don\u2019t deserve this. It shouldn\u2019t be this hard.\u201d \n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\tThe truth is: \u201cIt is hard. God is going to actually really do something to make you better. Fight for it. Hang on and fight through it; and you\u2019ll be a better person\u2014better marriage\/better legacy\u2014after.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> There was a study done in the state of Oklahoma, years ago, where they had asked couples, who had been considering divorce, and for whatever reason they had decided not to go through with their divorce. Well, they waited five years from that crisis point in the marriage; and they went to those couples and said \u201cOn a scale of 1-5\u20145 being \u201cGreat\u201d \/ 1 being \u201cWorthless\u201d\u2014where would you rate your marriage?\u201d Eighty-three percent of the couples, who had been thinking about divorce five years earlier, gave their marriage a 4 or a 5. The point is: \u201cIf you persevere through the hard times, things are <em>better<\/em> on the other side. If you\u2019ll just hang in, you\u2019ll find that, when you press through the valley, there\u2019s a green pasture ahead; and it\u2019s a sweet place to be.\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Ann:<\/strong> Every single marriage goes through times that you\u2019re in a valley\u2014a good marriage and a bad marriage\u2014and that\u2019s normal. The question is: \u201cWill we go before Jesus in that and ask Him to change us?\u201d\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Dave:<\/strong> And I\u2019ll add this\u2014because I asked my dad <em>one time<\/em>\/I was in my thirties\u2014\u201cDad, did you ever regret the divorce?\u201d <em>Immediate<\/em> answer: \u201cYes; I wish I would have held on. I wish I would have fought.\u201d He was looking at me and he said, \u201cI missed out on your life.\u201d You know, it\u2019s one of those men that went through it to say, \u201cHey, if I could do it all over again, I\u2019d say,\u201d\u2014what we\u2019re saying\u2014\u201c\u2019Fight for your marriage; hang on.\u2019\u201d He didn\u2019t know it; but if you do\u2014the study proves it\u2014you might just have a top-10 marriage if you fight for it.\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t\t\t<strong>Bob:<\/strong> Well, again, the message we\u2019ve heard today from Trent and Andrea Griffith\u2014if you\u2019d like to listen to it, in its entirety, you can go to our website\u2014FamilyLifeToday.com\u2014and the message is available there.
